- Chapter 29.2 - The Cannon Fodder Alpha Secretly in Love with the Female Lead Omega (26)
Now that Jiang Mengyu was finally standing, Chi Jingyan felt a wave of relief, though her words remained sharp. “That’s hard to say.”
Jiang Mengyu stepped closer. “Then what do I need to do for you to forgive me?”
Chi Jingyan had intended to say, “We’ll see,” but before the words left her mouth, she changed her mind.
She turned to face Jiang Mengyu and motioned for her to sit.
Jiang Mengyu obediently sat on the edge of the bed. The next second, Chi Jingyan pressed her shoulders and pushed her down. Jiang Mengyu yielded to the force, sinking briefly into the bedding before another body pinned her in place.
Chi Jingyan didn’t hesitate. She swung a leg over and settled atop Jiang Mengyu, her eyes gleaming with anticipation. “Let me bite you once, and I’ll forgive you.”
She hadn’t forgotten Jiang Mengyu’s temporary mark on her.
Jiang Mengyu gazed deeply into Chi Jingyan’s eyes. “Are you serious?”
Chi Jingyan’s robe had slipped completely, pooling around her waist, but she paid it no mind. Hearing the hint of concession in Jiang Mengyu’s voice, she couldn’t resist leaning down, bracing her hands on either side of Jiang Mengyu’s head.
“When have I ever joked with you?”
Jiang Mengyu’s long hair fanned out messily across the bed. She tilted her head slightly, exposing the slender, pale column of her neck. “Go ahead.”
Chi Jingyan tightened her grip on the sheets, her voice tinged with disbelief. “You’re really willing?”
Jiang Mengyu closed her eyes. “Rather than waiting for you to mark another Omega, I’d rather have you mark me.”
The excitement in Chi Jingyan’s heart gradually subsided. So Jiang Mengyu wasn’t truly willing, she just wanted to beat Chu Muyao to it.
Chi Jingyan gritted her teeth. She leaned down again, bringing her face close to Jiang Mengyu’s nape. The faint breath between them stirred a ticklish sensation, and Chi Jingyan could feel the tension in the person before her. The other’s long lashes fluttered slightly, clearly holding back.
She let out a scoff, tilting her head slightly. Instead of biting into Jiang Mengyu’s scent gland, she sank her teeth into her shoulder.
Jiang Mengyu’s eyes flew open. Her shoulder ached, but her gaze brightened.
Only after Chi Jingyan released her bite did Jiang Mengyu ask hoarsely, “Why didn’t you mark me?”
“If I really did that,” Chi Jingyan raised a hand, idly tracing Jiang Mengyu’s features from the delicate bridge of her nose down to her lips, “would you hate me?”
“No,” Jiang Mengyu stared at her unblinkingly. “I love you, so you can do whatever you want to me.”
Chi Jingyan’s fingers stilled. She looked at Jiang Mengyu with an unreadable expression. “If… the one who saved you back then wasn’t me, would you still like me?”
“There are no ‘ifs,'” Jiang Mengyu said. “I wouldn’t mistake my savior.”
But she had mistaken her now.
Chi Jingyan suddenly felt a surge of irritation. Seeing the unwavering certainty on Jiang Mengyu’s face only made her feel bitter.
“Enough,” Chi Jingyan rolled off Jiang Mengyu. “I’m tired.”
She didn’t want to discuss this any further.
A self-deprecating laugh rose in Chi Jingyan’s heart. Who would have thought she’d ever be the one avoiding something she didn’t want to face?
Chi Jingyan pulled back the covers and slipped into bed right in front of Jiang Mengyu. Closing her eyes, the darkness sharpened her hearing.
She heard Jiang Mengyu sit up, expecting her to leave. But instead, the mattress dipped beside her, and soon a pair of arms wrapped around her waist.
Chi Jingyan opened her eyes. Though her body relaxed at the other’s closeness, her words remained sharp. “Who said you could get into my bed?”
“Didn’t you ask me to come?” Jiang Mengyu pulled Chi Jingyan into her embrace, covering her mouth with one hand to stop her from speaking further. “It’s not like this is the first time we’ve shared a bed.”
“Just… indulge me a little, okay?”
Chi Jingyan fell silent.
Fine. If Jiang Mengyu put it that way, she could afford to give her a little sweetness.
The person in her arms finally quieted, and Jiang Mengyu felt exhaustion creeping in. Breathing in the sweet wine scent of Chi Jingyan, her heart settled into an unusual peace.
“Ah Yan,” Jiang Mengyu found Chi Jingyan’s hand under the covers. Ignoring her slight resistance, she interlaced their fingers tightly. “A marked Alpha needs comfort too. I need your pheromones.”
Chi Jingyan: ?
Chi Jingyan’s eyes widened. “When did I mark you?”
“Just now,” Jiang Mengyu said shamelessly, without a hint of guilt. “Your bite is still there. Are you trying to deny it?”
Chi Jingyan flushed with anger. “I didn’t even bite your gland!”
“But it really hurts.”
Those words instantly silenced Chi Jingyan.
She recalled the faint bruise still visible on Jiang Mengyu’s bare calf beneath her nightgown when she had stood before her earlier.
It must have been from that night when Chi Jingyan had kicked her.
Thinking back, Chi Jingyan realized she hadn’t been gentle with Jiang Mengyu at all not only had she frequently scolded her, but she had even fired shots at her twice.
The fact that Jiang Mengyu could see someone as her salvation just because of a piece of candy and a loaf of bread suggested that deep down, she yearned to be treated with kindness.
A sudden worry struck Chi Jingyan she didn’t seem like the type Jiang Mengyu would naturally like. If not for Jiang Mengyu’s mistaken belief that Chi Jingyan was her savior, she probably wouldn’t have fallen for her at all.
It seemed she’d have to be nicer to Jiang Mengyu from now on, at the very least, not lose her temper so easily.
Just as Chi Jingyan was lost in thought, she heard a soft voice behind her ask, “Ayan, am I really not dreaming?”
Without thinking, Chi Jingyan replied, “Then you’re pretty impressive dreaming before even falling asleep.”
The moment the words left her mouth, Chi Jingyan froze.
She bit her lip in frustration.
But Jiang Mengyu didn’t seem to mind. Instead, she let out a quiet laugh. “I see.”
Hearing that Jiang Mengyu didn’t sound upset at all, Chi Jingyan finally relaxed only to immediately feel awkward afterward.
Why did she care so much about whether Jiang Mengyu was angry or not?
Forcing herself to close her eyes, Chi Jingyan tried to push Jiang Mengyu out of her mind, pretending the person behind her was just an oversized, jasmine-scented body pillow.
Just as she had barely calmed herself, she felt Jiang Mengyu shift slightly behind her. Then, a soft warmth brushed against her shoulder.
Jiang Mengyu’s lips.
“Goodnight, Ayan.”
Chi Jingyan: “…”
Chi Jingyan was officially wide awake.
The students of Class Nine suddenly noticed something off about the atmosphere in their classroom today.
For the entire morning, Chu Muyao and Chi Jingyan hadn’t exchanged a single word, as if they were giving each other the cold shoulder.
But upon closer inspection, Chi Jingyan didn’t seem angry at all. In fact, she occasionally wore an inexplicable, inscrutable expression.
Xie Xun, in particular, felt it the most.
Because she had personally witnessed Chi Jingyan glancing at Jiang Mengyu multiple times.
When Chi Jingyan subconsciously looked toward Jiang Mengyu yet again, Xie Xun couldn’t hold back any longer and whispered, “Chi-jie, did that annoying girl make you mad again?”
Otherwise, why would Chi-jie keep glaring at Jiang Mengyu?
Chi Jingyan was startled, a pang of guilt flashing through her, but she was good at keeping a straight face. Her expression remained indifferent as she replied, “She’s not annoying.”
Though Jiang Mengyu had made her unhappy.
She had explicitly said they still had classes today and shouldn’t kiss so roughly, yet Jiang Mengyu had still bitten her lips swollen. If Chi Jingyan hadn’t pushed her away at the last moment, Jiang Mengyu might have gone even further.
Not that things were much better now.
Chi Jingyan uncomfortably averted her gaze.
Xie Xun hesitated, wondering if her ears were playing tricks on her. Otherwise, how could she have detected a hint of protectiveness toward Jiang Mengyu in Chi Jingyan’s words?
Seeing that Chi Jingyan didn’t wish to elaborate, Xie Xun didn’t press further. Her gaze drifted downward, landing on the band-aid stuck to Chi Jingyan’s neck. “Sister Chi, what happened to your neck?”
Chi Jingyan’s expression stiffened slightly. “Got bitten by a dog.”
“Ah?” Xie Xun was stunned.
Since when did Sister Chi have a dog?
Wait, what kind of dog was so vicious?
Daring to bite its owner was one thing, but to bite her on such a vulnerable spot like the neck?!
Xie Xun looked worried. “Sister Chi, you can’t indulge it. You have to teach it a harsh lesson, otherwise there’ll be a first time and then a second.”
Chi Jingyan replied dismissively, “I know.”
Seeing her distracted, Xie Xun thought for a moment but ultimately said nothing more.
After school at noon, everyone was packing up to go for lunch. Chi Jingyan glanced sideways at Jiang Mengyu, only to find Jiang Mengyu already looking at her. Their eyes met for two seconds before Chi Jingyan stood up and walked toward Chu Muyao instead.
She left with Chu Muyao.
Seeing this, everyone finally breathed a sigh of relief apparently, the cold war between the two was only temporary.
Jiang Mengyu lowered her gaze without a word.
Chen He’an, holding his meal card, was about to leave for lunch when he noticed Jiang Mengyu still hadn’t moved. Casually, he asked, “I’m heading to the cafeteria. Are you coming?”
Jiang Mengyu shook her head.
She waited a little longer when suddenly, a new message popped up on WeChat.
【Come to the art room.】
It was from Chi Jingyan.
Chi Jingyan had guessed Jiang Mengyu hadn’t gone to eat yet. She deliberately brought two portions of food and sat in the art room, waiting for Jiang Mengyu.
After what felt like an eternity just as Chi Jingyan’s patience was about to run out, the door to the art room was pushed open from the outside. Chi Jingyan turned her head and saw Jiang Mengyu standing there.
“Come eat.”
Chi Jingyan exhaled, withdrawing her gaze but remaining seated.
The sound of footsteps grew closer, but strangely, Jiang Mengyu didn’t say a word.
Chi Jingyan frowned and looked up again, only to realize Jiang Mengyu had already stepped right in front of her.
The Alpha’s expression was cold and somber.
Chi Jingyan: “What are you?”
Before she could finish, Jiang Mengyu placed a hand on the back of her chair. Sensing something off, Chi Jingyan held her breath slightly.
Jiang Mengyu leaned in, her eyes fixed intently on Chi Jingyan. “You told me not to talk to Chen He’an,” she said, her voice devoid of emotion. “Yet you were happily chatting with someone else.”
“What was that Alpha’s name again?”
“Xie Xun?”
At first, Chi Jingyan was annoyed, but then her expression gradually turned smug.
“Jiang Mengyu,” she said, a teasing lilt in her voice.
“Are you jealous?”
Jiang Mengyu didn’t answer, only staring at her with darkened eyes. The colder she acted, the more pleased Chi Jingyan became.
“You’re jealous over a classmate?”
Besides, she’d only exchanged a few words with Xie Xun today.
Instead of responding, Jiang Mengyu countered, “What about Chu Muyao, then?”
“What did you just say to her?”
As she spoke, Jiang Mengyu leaned even closer, until the tips of their noses were barely an inch apart.
“Ah Yan, didn’t you say you’d judge by my performance?”
Chi Jingyan knew how much this mattered to her. She was about to explain when something else suddenly caught her eye.
Her expression stiffened as her gaze shifted past Jiang Mengyu to the doorway of the art room.
Standing there, silent and unnoticed until now, was a figure watching them calmly her eyes so still they betrayed no emotion at all.
It was Chu Muyao.
