- Chapter 23.1 - The Cannon Fodder Alpha Secretly in Love with the Female Lead Omega (20)
Chi Jingyan Seems Very Interested in Jiang Mengyu .
Jiang Mengyu didn’t ask Zhou Heng where he was taking her. It wasn’t until they arrived that she realized it was a large training facility.
Zhou Heng pulled out a platinum card from his pocket and led Jiang Mengyu inside with practiced ease. Everyone they passed along the way nodded and greeted him.
It seemed Zhou Heng held a high status in this training base.
After observing her surroundings, Jiang Mengyu shifted her gaze back to the man walking ahead of her.
Zhou Heng seemed to sense her stare. He glanced back at her but said nothing.
He took Jiang Mengyu to the shooting range.
“The young miss said you know how to use a gun.”
Zhou Heng handed her a pistol first. “Try it.”
Jiang Mengyu took it and examined it, an ordinary black handgun. She was no stranger to firearms. Without waiting for further instructions, she deftly removed the old magazine, replaced it with a new one, and chambered a round.
Jiang Mengyu had once sought thrills. She had even spent some time with a mercenary group, joining them on two missions. Later, after constant nagging from Jiang Wanjing, she quit.
So she was familiar with the aura Zhou Heng exuded a dangerous, icy detachment born from years of brushing shoulders with death.
Jiang Mengyu aimed at the target ahead, narrowing her eyes slightly. Her pheromones unconsciously leaked a little, the scent of jasmine drifting through the air, causing Zhou Heng’s body to tense up.
This girl’s pheromone level was alarmingly high.
Zhou Heng could tell she was no novice, nor was she intimidated by the environment. Instead, her eyes brimmed with excitement and eagerness.
Though young, her gaze was deep and inscrutable.
A mysterious person indeed.
Zhou Heng grew intrigued. He had no idea where the young miss had found such a dangerous individual. Fortunately, she bore no ill will toward the young miss, otherwise.
Before he could finish the thought, a gunshot suddenly rang out beside him.
He focused his gaze and saw Jiang Mengyu’s bullet had struck the bullseye.
“Again.”
Jiang Mengyu fired several more shots in succession until the magazine was empty.
Zhou Heng nodded. “Not bad.”
Only one bullet hole remained on the target because every subsequent shot had landed in the exact same spot.
“Next, try moving targets.”
Zhou Heng led her to another area.
Compared to stationary targets, moving ones were far more challenging. Jiang Mengyu rotated her wrist and picked up an assault rifle from the side.
Zhou Heng watched silently, offering no guidance or restrictions on the type of firearm she could use. Everything was left to Jiang Mengyu’s preference.
Squinting to aim, Jiang Mengyu fired. The recoil jolted her shoulder, leaving a faint numbness, but she remained steady on her feet.
One by one, the targets fell, their “heads” shattered to pieces.
Only after Jiang Mengyu stopped again did Zhou Heng nod. His expression was unreadable. “Learned before?”
“No.” Jiang Mengyu stuck to her usual answer.
“Maybe it’s just talent.”
Zhou Heng didn’t reveal whether he believed her or not.
However, high-level Alphas indeed possess superior learning abilities compared to their lower-level counterparts. Moreover, the one standing before her was suspected to be an SSS-level Alpha, so it was only natural for her to have some innate talent.
Zhou Heng picked up another gun from the side. “Care for a match?”
Jiang Mengyu had been thinking the same thing.
She flashed Zhou Heng a smile, though the emotion in her eyes was faint, overshadowed by a competitive determination.
“Bring it on!”
…
Chi Jingyan had just finished class.
She was in the same class as Chu Muyao, though they weren’t desk mates. Chi Jingyan’s seatmate was also an Alpha.
The moment the teacher stepped out of the classroom, her seatmate nudged her arm and whispered, “Jingyan, Muyao’s calling you.”
Chi Jingyan paused and looked up. Sure enough, Chu Muyao was walking toward her, holding a bag in her hand. “Jingyan.”
Chu Muyao’s face was flushed. “Can we talk outside?”
Chi Jingyan gave a quiet “Mm” and stood up. After taking a couple of steps with Chu Muyao, she seemed to remember something and turned back to her desk, retrieving a gift she had prepared from underneath.
Chu Muyao blinked in surprise. “Jingyan?”
Without a word, the two walked one after the other toward the artificial lake. The area was lined with trees, and the lush shrubs shielded them from prying eyes, a perfect spot for private conversations.
Once the surroundings grew quiet, Chi Jingyan stopped and handed the gift to Chu Muyao.
“Thank you.” Chu Muyao was taken aback, not expecting Chi Jingyan to have prepared a gift for her.
The Omega’s blush deepened, her fair complexion glowing like a sunset, tinged with an indescribable shyness and timidity.
Chi Jingyan realized she felt nothing at all.
A scent-blocking patch was pressed against the nape of her neck, sealing away the aroma of pear lychee wine within her body. Only the faint trace of morning perfume lingered around her.
The scent drifted to Chu Muyao’s nose, and she couldn’t help but press her lips together. “Jingyan, I still want to apologize to you again.”
As she spoke, she extended her own gift. “Even though you said you don’t blame me, this whole thing did start because of me.”
Chu Muyao studied Chi Jingyan’s expression her features remained cool and refined, betraying no hint of discomfort, her demeanor unchanged from before.
Only after seeing this for herself could Chu Muyao finally relax.
“It’s fine.” Chi Jingyan took the gift casually, her tone indifferent. “It’s all in the past.”
Watching as Chu Muyao finally smiled, Chi Jingyan lowered her gaze in silence.
Of course, she knew things weren’t that simple. Her rut might have passed, but Jiang Mengyu’s temporary mark still lingered on her body.
If she removed the scent-blocking patch from her neck, she would catch the familiar fragrance of jasmine, a constant reminder that she had been marked by another Alpha.
The thought inevitably stirred a wave of irritation in her.
Until Jiang Mengyu’s pheromones faded completely, she had no choice but to keep the patch firmly in place. If anyone discovered the scent of another Alpha on her, Chi Jingyan didn’t dare imagine the uproar it would cause.
But Chu Muyao knew nothing of this.
“By the way, Jingyan, was it the bodyguard who took you away that day?”
When Chu Muyao said this, for some reason, she suddenly thought of Jiang Mengyu. That night, after Chi Jingyan left, Jiang Mengyu had also disappeared without a trace.
Later, she asked others at the bar and was told that Jiang Mengyu had already resigned.
Chu Muyao didn’t have any particular thoughts about it, she just felt that given how much attention Chi Jingyan had paid to Jiang Mengyu, she might know where Jiang Mengyu had gone.
“Mhm.” Chi Jingyan knew what Chu Muyao was really asking, but she didn’t bring up Jiang Mengyu.
Still, a faint trace lingered in Chi Jingyan’s mind. She wondered how Jiang Mengyu was doing. Zhou Heng had just sent her a few messages, but she hadn’t had the chance to read them yet.
Chi Jingyan was somewhat distracted.
Chu Muyao noticed her absentmindedness, but Chi Jingyan had always been like this, so she didn’t connect it to Jiang Mengyu.
“Class is about to start,” she said, ending the conversation. “Let’s head back to the classroom first.”
Chi Jingyan exhaled imperceptibly in relief. “Okay.”
The two of them carried their gifts back to the classroom. Everyone there was well aware of their relationship, and seeing them together, they exchanged teasing glances.
Chi Jingyan tightened her grip on the gift in her hand but didn’t offer any explanation.
While the atmosphere here was light and cheerful, Jiang Mengyu was still undergoing intense training.
In terms of marksmanship alone, she and Zhou Heng were evenly matched. Jiang Mengyu remained expressionless, but Zhou Heng couldn’t help giving her an approving smile.
“Not bad.”
Chi Jingyan had said she wanted to train Jiang Mengyu as her personal bodyguard, so aside from shooting skills, Zhou Heng also needed to test her close combat abilities.
Jiang Mengyu knew fighting techniques, but because she lacked Zhou Heng’s strength, she ultimately lost to him.
Still, she wasn’t disappointed.
After all, this body wasn’t the one Jiang Mengyu was accustomed to, it was a simulation created by the system based on her original physical data. Though it looked identical on the outside, there were still some differences in reality.
Though Zhou Heng had won, he was no less surprised. He knew Jiang Mengyu was simply still young. Given time, once she matured, he might not be her match.
He didn’t say anything, but the look he gave Jiang Mengyu was noticeably warmer than before.
Today wasn’t official training, it was just Zhou Heng assessing Jiang Mengyu’s skills. Based on the results, he would create a customized training plan for her.
After the assessment, Zhou Heng personally drove Jiang Mengyu back to her apartment.
Neither of them was talkative, and the car ride passed in silence.
Once the car stopped in front of the apartment building, Zhou Heng glanced at Jiang Mengyu’s indifferent expression in the rearview mirror and finally spoke.
“The young mistress may seem temperamental, but in truth, she has the softest heart.”
A soft heart?
Jiang Mengyu lifted her eyes to meet Zhou Heng’s gaze, silently waiting for him to continue.
Zhou Heng didn’t elaborate. His tone carried both advice and a warning. “I hope you won’t betray the young mistress’s trust in you.”
