The Cannon Fodder Became the Empire's Beloved Omega - Chapter 30
“What? Someone got banned for ten years? That’s insane!”
“Holy shit, I’ve never seen that since joining Nebula! Quick, let me take a look, I gotta see this!”
Roommates rushed to Song Si’s computer, grabbing the mouse to reopen the recently closed page. Staring at the bold crimson text, they couldn’t help but exclaim, “Damn!! A ten-year ban for real!!”
Song Si: “…”
Overwhelming shame twisted into rage. He shot to his feet, shielding the screen with his hand, and snapped, “Enough! What’s so funny about this? All of you, get lost!”
Seeing his reaction, the roommates exchanged glances before someone asked, “What did you even do to get a ten-year ban from the mods?”
Song Si choked on his words, rendered speechless.
After a long pause, he finally spat out, “I made a post.”
“What post?”
Face darkening, Song Si tossed them the link. “See for yourselves.”
Everyone immediately returned to their own computers and clicked the link. Moments later, they erupted with admiration usually reserved for historical figures. “Song Si, you’ve got some serious guts. Did you even consider who they are? How dare you mock them openly? You’ve got a death wish?”
“…” Song Si gritted his teeth. “Everyone was criticizing them! What’s the big deal if I made one post mocking them? Weren’t we all saying this incident pissed off the higher-ups? Who the hell expected someone would actually defend that guy?”
Thinking about his rejected appeal and the statement “Nebula University does not tolerate any form of discrimination,” Song Si felt his heart trembling with fury.
Was Han Ran out of her mind?!
After a moment of collective sighing, a strange whoop came from nearby.
“Hey, Song Si, you were right!” someone laughed. “Check the forum someone’s actually defending that Omega, making a post to clear their name!”
Hearing this, everyone immediately clicked the redirected link to see the content.
“Let’s see what it says.” Someone scrolled quickly, reading aloud. “‘Rumors are harmful. This person is actually very kind and polite and really courteous’?? Oh damn, and ‘Their abilities aren’t lacking at all. I was deeply moved by their speech, my face is stinging from the slap’??”
“This and they’re telling us not to spread rumors?? And people are agreeing in the comments??”
“Holy shit, Han Ran liked this post!”
“…?? No way? Could this post actually be telling the truth?”
Amid the growing murmurs of doubt around him, Song Si couldn’t resist opening the post link. Scrolling to the bottom through gritted teeth, he saw “Han Ran” next to the like button and finally snapped:
“You actually believe this crap?!” he burst out angrily. “The school still hasn’t released this batch of freshmen’s transcripts! Adding someone right before school starts, it’s obviously shady! And you trust Han Ran? Give me a break. At best, she’s just a vicious dog!”
The roommates glanced at each other uncertainly. “Even if you say that.”
Song Si scanned the room and walked over to one of their computers. “Lend me your account.”
“Huh?” The guy stood up, confused. “What are you planning?”
Song Si plopped into the chair. “I’m going to expose Han Ran for abusing her power. She doesn’t deserve to be Nebula’s student council president!”
He typed an emotional reply: “Don’t you fucking joke around. If that Omega doesn’t mess up the speech, I’ll walk around the field blowing a whistle while doing a handstand!”
Seeing the reply, everyone was stunned. After a long pause, the person who had lent him the account timidly said, “Then, what if he really doesn’t mess up? Song Si, you’re using my account.”
“…” Song Si choked. After holding it in for a while, he spoke irritably, “I’ll take responsibility for my own actions. If something really goes wrong, I’ll handle it. It has nothing to do with you, alright?”
Yu Ruan stared blankly at the face in front of him, and after a long moment, he finally snapped back to reality.
His face instantly flushed bright red. Embarrassed, he took the tissue from the other person, not even bothering to say thank you, and immediately opened the dormitory door. Right in front of Gu Yu, he slammed it shut with a loud “bang.”
So mortifying!!
Yu Ruan looked despairingly at his reflection in the mirror, wiping frantically while wondering how many people had noticed the bit of candy residue at the corner of his lips.
The gland at the back of his neck radiated a burning heat, as if reminding him of the embarrassing incident he had just experienced. Blushing, Yu Ruan quickly scooped up a handful of water and splashed it on his face.
The door in front of him remained tightly shut, and the faint, sweet scent that had drifted from the other person still lingered in the air. Gu Yu stood quietly for a while longer before slowly walking to his own room, lowering his head to unlock the door.
Perhaps influenced by the pheromones from someone else, he noticed his breathing seemed heavier than usual. His blood flow and heartbeat were also faster than normal.
It was a bit irritating.
But not exactly unpleasant.
Just as he was about to open the door, a voice called out from the distance.
“Gu Yu, why are you alone?” Cheng Mu shouted from afar, “Where’s Ruan Ruan?”
“He went back to his room.”
“Oh, okay.” Cheng Mu responded, then immediately noticed something different about the person in front of him compared to usual.
“Anything else?” Gu Yu turned back coldly.
“Nothing, nothing.” Cheng Mu quickly said, “Let’s all get some sleep early. I’m heading off now.”
“Mm.”
Watching Cheng Mu’s figure disappear, Gu Yu finally opened the door and walked into his room alone.
Pulling an inhibitor out of his suitcase, he expressionlessly tore off the packaging, injected it into his vein, and pushed the plunger all the way down.
A few days later, the class assistant sent a message to everyone through the channel, informing them that the course selection permissions in the system had been opened and urging everyone to quickly select their schedules for the semester.
Yu Ruan happened to see the message as soon as he woke up. After a quick wash, he hurried to his computer to choose his courses.
Star Cloud University was very flexible. Aside from a few mandatory courses, students were free to decide whether to take the rest. As long as they met the required credits before graduation, the university wouldn’t interfere.
Before coming to Star Cloud, Yu Ruan had already decided which courses he wanted to take. Now that the time had come, he naturally needed to confirm his choices quickly.
Soon, he added the courses he had been thinking about for a long time. Then, he stared at the remaining empty slots, feeling conflicted.
They all seemed pretty good, but they might also all be mediocre.
Yu Ruan looked at one, then another. After hesitating for a long time, he noted down a few courses that caught his eye, planning to attend the lectures in person to try them out.
Upperclassmen started their classes earlier, and there was a designated area in the lecture hall for freshmen to audit, which was quite convenient.
Yu Ruan picked up his bag, had his personal terminal schedule the day, and then followed the map navigation toward the lecture hall.
The path was crowded, mostly with tall and imposing Alphas, with a few Betas occasionally visible. Though Yu Ruan wasn’t particularly short, standing next to these Alphas made him stand out noticeably.
Curious glances fell upon him, but Yu Ruan remained unfazed. He followed the navigation into the lecture hall and took a seat in the auditing area.
He had arrived quite early, so the hall wasn’t very full yet. As students trickled in, they noticed him sitting in the auditing area, and their expressions shifted, prompting hushed whispers.
The faint murmurs drifted over, too indistinct to make out clearly, but judging by their expressions, it was unlikely to be anything kind.
He hadn’t expected even upperclassmen to form cliques and exclude others. Yu Ruan felt a slight surprise but quickly adjusted his mindset, opening the course materials the professor had distributed and beginning to review them earnestly.
He had encountered situations like this far too many times before, and now it was difficult for such things to affect his mood.
Before long, the lecture hall gradually filled up.
The course Yu Ruan had chosen seemed quite popular, with many people seated in the auditing area. However, most of them frowned upon seeing his face, as if they had spotted something unpleasant, and moved to sit far away from him.
Soon, a strangely empty space formed around Yu Ruan, as if an invisible wall had been erected.
It was rather peaceful.
Glancing at the crowded scene farther away, Yu Ruan sighed inwardly for a moment before lowering his head to continue studying.
Just then, someone suddenly jogged over and stopped in front of him.
Before Yu Ruan could look up, the person greeted him cheerfully, “Your Highness, are you auditing this class too? What a coincidence!”
He removed his earphones and looked over, only to find it was the Beta girl he had met not long ago.
“I just needed to choose some courses, so I came to audit this one,” Yu Ruan smiled at her, also finding it quite a coincidence. “Are you here for the class? It’s surprising we ran into each other.”
He remembered that this course had multiple sessions scheduled throughout the day, so it really wasn’t easy to meet like this.
Le Meng nodded, but when she noticed the empty space around him, a pang of indignation flashed through her heart. She furrowed her brows, glanced around, taking in the avoidant gazes, and sat down indignantly. “Then, may I sit here?”
Yu Ruan was a bit taken aback.
He hesitated, glanced at the people nearby, and softly declined, “Thank you for your kindness. But you don’t need to sit here on my account, it might make things difficult for you at school later. You should go sit with your friends. I’m used to this, so don’t worry.”
Hearing his words, Le Meng felt her nose sting, and she nearly burst into tears.
Ahhh, how could His Highness Yu Ruan be so considerate of others?!
These despicable jerks are just too awful!!
Le Meng sniffled, feeling the fire in her heart burn even more fiercely.
“It’s alright, Your Highness, you don’t need to worry about me. I’m used to it too!”
Yue Meng angrily threw her bag onto the desk with a loud “thud,” instantly drawing countless stares. “Anyway, Alphas are already prejudiced against Betas. At worst, we’ll just be looked down on together!”
Yu Ruan blinked in confusion, a wave of guilt washing over him.
He thought for a moment, then fished a milk candy out of his backpack and offered it to her. “Want one? It’s really sweet.”
He remembered that when she had helped out in the Sky Garden last time, she seemed quite skilled at making desserts. Yu Ruan guessed she must be one of those people who had a sweet tooth.
Sure enough, her eyes lit up, and she happily accepted it. “Thank you! Your Highness, you’re so kind!”
Yu Ruan gave her a slight, gentle smile.
Yue Meng cheerfully unwrapped the candy, popped it into her mouth, and mumbled, “The teacher for this class is really nice, super interesting, and doesn’t go in for discrimination. That’s why I love taking this course. Your Highness, you should consider it too!”
“Alright, I will,” Yu Ruan nodded. “Any other recommendations?”
Yue Meng thought for a moment and asked, “What kind of classes do you like, Your Highness? Let me take a look.”
Yu Ruan handed her his list of potential courses, and the two of them huddled together, earnestly starting to sift through the options.
Just as they were deep in discussion, an abrupt, discordant male voice cut in from nearby, directly addressing them: “Hey, if you two are going to chat, could you take it outside the classroom?”
