The Cannon Fodder Became the Empire's Beloved Omega - Chapter 31
Yu Ruan paused his movements.
He lifted his head and looked in the direction of the voice, only to find a tall male Alpha, accompanied by several others. The speaker wore an expression of disgust, his eyes filled with mocking sarcasm, as if waiting for Yu Ruan to explode in anger.
So, Yu Ruan checked the time again.
There were still over ten minutes until class started, and the entire lecture hall was bustling with activity. His discussion with Le Meng was completely drowned out by the chatter and laughter of other students, making it hard to attract attention.
The remark was clearly just a flimsy excuse.
“Class hasn’t started yet,” Yu Ruan said to him. “Is there a problem with discussing things?”
Upon hearing this, the other person sneered. “Oh, so you think this is fine? As expected of an heir. Let me give you a round of applause, impressive.”
He clapped a few times with no sincerity and laughed. “Alright, I’ve clapped for you. Now, could you please move from your esteemed seat? Taking up such a large area is this what the privileged class does? It’s really disgusting to see.”
Yu Ruan remained calm. “There are plenty of seats here. You can choose any spot you like. I have no objections.”
The other raised an eyebrow, sat in the chair in front of him, and rested half his arm on the desk. “Well, I like your spot. It’s quiet and has a good view.” He lazily pointed toward a distant corner. “How about swapping?”
Yu Ruan didn’t look where he pointed. Instead, he put away his class schedule and said, “First come, first served. The view over there isn’t bad either. You can try it.”
The smile on the Alpha’s face froze. He furrowed his brows coldly, narrowed his eyes, and scoffed, “Were you raised spoiled? Mommy and Daddy’s little darling? Don’t you know what kind of place Starcloud is?”
Yu Ruan waited patiently for him to continue.
“In Starcloud, there’s only one iron rule.” The other lifted his chin and pointed his thumb downward. “The law of the jungle survival of the fittest. If a delicate Omega like you thinks you can overpower others with tears and privilege, you’d better get out now.”
He turned his mocking gaze toward Le Meng, who had shot to her feet, and curled his lips sarcastically. “Little cuties who only know how to cry and cling to each other for praise have no place here. What, got a problem with that?”
Le Meng trembled with anger. “You, you’re really!”
Seeing that he had successfully provoked her, the tall Alpha grinned and glanced at Yu Ruan. “Not going to share your opinion?”
The smile on Yu Ruan’s face gradually faded.
Although he had mentally prepared himself, it was clear this was no longer just about him. Le Meng had been dragged into this because of him, and he couldn’t just stand by and let her be bullied.
“So,” Yu Ruan began, “what do you think is the standard for ‘survival of the fittest’? Could you enlighten me?”
“Ability, of course!” the other replied without hesitation, curling his lips. “If you can crush me to the ground, I’ll do whatever you say without a single ‘no’.” He raised an eyebrow and added mockingly, “Omegas wouldn’t understand. Don’t even try.”
“…Oh,” Yu Ruan nodded with a gentle smile. “You prefer settling things with arm wrestling in the space age? Not bad, very idealistic.”
“…” The other faltered, instantly choked by his words.
The small dispute had already drawn the attention of the entire classroom. Hearing this, the students were amused by Yu Ruan’s description and burst into laughter.
Hearing the laughter, the other’s face flushed bright red, and he shot to his feet. “Who the hell said anything about arm wrestling?!”
“Then are you going to take off your clothes and show off your muscles?” Yu Ruan asked, puzzled.
“…”
“If you don’t mind stripping in front of so many people, then I’ll have to admit defeat.” Yu Ruan said humbly. “In terms of shamelessness, I can’t compare to you. I admit you’ve crushed me in that regard.”
“…”
At this, even the other Alphas following him couldn’t hold back. They stifled their laughter and patted his shoulder. “Hey, Song Si, that’s enough. Don’t make a fool of yourself. It’ll be embarrassing if word gets out.”
Song Si struggled for a moment before turning his head. “Shut up, all of you!”
“No way?” the others said in surprise. “Are you really going to strip? Don’t, that’s gross.”
“Who the hell said I was going to strip?!”
Song Si was so angry he nearly burst a blood vessel. He whipped his head around and glared at Yu Ruan, his expression dark. “Stop playing word games. You Omegas are all sharp-tongued. I don’t want to play this game with you.”
“Then what do you want to do?” Yu Ruan checked the time and said patiently, “There are three minutes until class. The teacher will be here soon.”
Song Si showed a look of disdain. “Are you only going to cry and call for the teacher?”
Yu Ruan blinked and smiled at the Alpha before him.
“No,” he said slowly. “It’s mainly because this is the first class. If you make a fool of yourself right away, you’ll be embarrassed in front of the teacher for the whole academic year. That would be awkward.”
Instantly, the surrounding students burst into laughter again.
Where did this treasure come from?
Amid the laughter, everyone couldn’t help but think: This style of infuriating people with a straight face, yet looking so innocent, it was absolutely hilarious for onlookers.
Strangely endearing.
But Song Si didn’t find the Omega before him endearing in the slightest. On the contrary, he hated him so much he wanted to tear off that fake smiling face.
Just then, a silvery laugh came from the side.
He turned to look and saw it was the Beta girl who had been sitting with Yu Ruan earlier. She seemed thoroughly amused by his retort and couldn’t help but chuckle softly.
Rage instantly surged in his heart. Song Si raised his hand, wanting to slap that irritating smiling face.
Noticing the Alpha’s expression change, Yu Ruan quietly grew more alert. Unexpectedly, the next second, he saw the other raise his arm as if to strike Le Meng beside him.
His pupils contracted slightly. Yu Ruan shot up from his seat, reached out to block the movement, and firmly grabbed the other’s arm with his right hand.
“Can’t win with words, so you resort to violence?” His face also turned cold. “Is this your level?”
Song Si was startled and instinctively tried to pull his hand back, but his forearm was locked tightly in Yu Ruan’s grip, unable to move at all. For a moment, he almost thought the Omega before him was actually an Alpha in disguise.
If it weren’t for the fact that ten minutes ago, this person had been trying to reason with him gently, he would have mistaken their gender at a glance.
Song Si froze on the spot.
Seeing that things had turned physical, the people around hurried over to intervene. “Stop, stop, stop! What are you doing, Song Si? Why are you resorting to violence? Aren’t you afraid of getting disciplined?”
Staring at the suddenly sharp face before him, Song Si moved his lips, then gritted his teeth fiercely. “Let go.”
Yu Ruan’s expression didn’t change, and he didn’t comply.
The spot where he had blocked the other’s arm was surely red, but fortunately, it was covered by his clothes, so no one could see.
In such confrontations, the one who showed weakness first would lose. He had no intention of losing to someone like this, so he wouldn’t let go first.
Just as they were deadlocked, a figure appeared outside the classroom. The person, holding a folder under their arm and wearing a dark teacher’s uniform, walked in slowly.
The next second, the bell signaling the start of class rang in the hallway.
Seeing the chaos in the classroom, the professor’s expression darkened, his gray hawk-like eyes turning cold. “What’s going on?”
Seeing the professor arrive, Song Si immediately yanked his arm back. “Professor Han, I was just building rapport with this classmate. But it seems he doesn’t agree with Starcloud’s ways, so we had a disagreement and it got physical.”
Everyone was astounded by this blatant distortion of the truth.
They couldn’t help but glance at Yu Ruan, curious to see how the rumored spoiled and willful Omega would explain himself.
Would he just cry?
But he didn’t seem that fragile.
Would he lose his temper and resort to violence?
But he looked very calm.
No matter how you looked at it, he was nothing like the person in the rumors.
Hearing this explanation, Professor Han frowned slightly and looked at Yu Ruan. “Repeat what happened.”
Yu Ruan didn’t refuse. He nodded and recounted the events exactly as they had occurred.
It wasn’t that he couldn’t embellish the story, but he felt it was unnecessary. Those willing to listen would hear him out; those unwilling wouldn’t, no matter how pitiful he acted.
It was better to be straightforward.
His calm voice echoed through the lecture hall, reaching the ears of the students present. It stirred emotions in some of them.
This Omega really seemed different from the rumors.
Those who frequented the forums began to wonder: Many had seen yesterday’s post, but there were also many skeptics. After all, the rumors had persisted for so long, and with such certainty, they couldn’t be entirely baseless.
They hadn’t seen the real person, so of course, they believed what the rumors said. As for what the person was actually like, that was something you only learned after getting to know them.
But, who would have thought that post was actually telling the truth?
Unbelievable!
After recounting the facts, Yu Ruan looked up at the newcomer. “That’s all.”
Professor Han nodded slightly and turned to Song Si nearby. “Is that the truth?”
Song Si gritted his teeth and reluctantly nodded.
He never expected the Omega to refuse to throw a tantrum or deny anything, instead choosing to tell the truth. The other hadn’t even omitted their verbal sparring, immediately putting him in a difficult position.
Originally, he had planned to provoke the other by playing the victim, then deliver a crushing blow once their competitive spirit was roused. But now, he had tried to gain an advantage only to suffer a loss, getting himself into trouble instead.
He had heard that Professor Han despised students who played dirty tricks, and Song Si immediately began to worry about his grades for the semester.
Sure enough, the next second, Song Si saw the professor’s brow furrow deeply.
