The Cannon Fodder Became the Empire's Beloved Omega - Chapter 21
Ye Yizhou? Why had he come to Atlan Palace?
Yu Ruan was a bit puzzled.
The car they were riding in was coated with anti-spy material, making it impossible to see inside from the outside, while those inside could see everything clearly. Ye Yizhou strode up to the car, knocked on the window, and signaled for Gu Yu to roll it down.
The window descended, and Gu Yu looked up. “What is it?”
Only then did Ye Yizhou notice Yu Ruan in the passenger seat, his expression freezing for a moment.
“I had something, but not anymore,” he said with a laugh, turning to Yu Ruan. “Did he insist on shamelessly driving you back? If you didn’t want to get in the car, you didn’t have to force yourself.”
Yu Ruan glanced at Gu Yu’s impassive face and awkwardly explained to Ye Yizhou, “No, actually, I…” was the one who had the car sent back first.
He was about to gesture with his hand when he suddenly realized that Gu Yu was still holding it. Instantly, his face flushed red, and he flusteredly tried to pull his hand back.
Gu Yu glanced at him but said nothing, calmly withdrawing his hand. In contrast, Yu Ruan seemed overly sensitive.
Embarrassed, he pursed his lips, opened the car door, and stepped out. “Thank you for driving me back today,” he said to Gu Yu. “See you next time.”
Gu Yu gave a slow nod and averted his gaze.
“If there’s nothing else, I’ll be going,” he said to Ye Yizhou.
Ye Yizhou tilted his chin upward in acknowledgment.
The dark window glass slowly closed, and the gleaming silver sports car reversed, turned, and gradually drove away from Atlan Palace.
Only after the silver silhouette had completely disappeared from view did Yu Ruan snap back to reality, realizing that someone was still standing beside him.
He quickly apologized to Ye Yizhou and asked, “Did you come to Atlan Palace for some business?”
Ye Yizhou turned to him with a smile. “Indeed, I have something to do.”
Yu Ruan immediately grew tense: if Ye Yizhou had made a special trip, it definitely wasn’t something trivial. It seemed the days ahead wouldn’t be very leisurely.
“Don’t be nervous,” Ye Yizhou said, noticing his expression and offering a reassuring smile. “I just came to deliver a notice and inform you of your upcoming schedule.”
Yu Ruan blinked in confusion, then watched as Ye Yizhou pulled out a document and calmly handed it to him.
Opening the envelope, he discovered it was an acceptance letter from Nebula University.
Feeling rather embarrassed, he said, “You could have just mailed it to me. I’m sorry to trouble you with a special trip.”
Ye Yizhou waved it off. “It’s no trouble. I wanted to see how you were doing anyway.” He glanced at Atlan Palace, shimmering in the sunlight. “So, how are you settling in?”
“Quite well,” Yu Ruan replied earnestly. “Everyone has been very kind and friendly to me.”
Ye Yizhou raised an eyebrow. “Really?”
Yu Ruan nodded.
“Good, then,” Ye Yizhou said with a soft chuckle. “If you ever feel wronged, just contact me directly.”
“Mm-hmm.”
“By the way, have you heard about Nebula University?” he suddenly asked.
Yu Ruan thought for a moment, assuming he was referring to what Yi Tu had mentioned. “Are you talking about the accommodation?”
“And the start of the semester,” Ye Yizhou added with a slight smile. “You’ll probably be able to move in soon. How do you feel? Still excited?”
At these words, Yu Ruan’s eyes instantly lit up.
Though he no longer had to worry about making ends meet, he still yearned for the library of Nebula University. Hearing that he could step onto campus earlier than expected made him happier than anything else.
He nodded firmly.
“Since you’re so excited, you’d better work hard,” Ye Yizhou said with an amused chuckle. “Aim for first place in your year.”
Nebula University, cafeteria.
Students gathered in small groups, whispering among themselves.
“Hey, have you heard the big news lately?” someone asked loudly as they set their tray down and took a seat. “A transfer student dropped into Class A of the first year and pushed some poor guy down to Class B!”
“What’s so strange about that?” the person across from them replied dismissively. “We get genius transfers every year. Haven’t you gotten used to it yet?”
“Well, if they were actually a genius, it wouldn’t be a big deal,” the first speaker said, glancing around before lowering their voice. “But I heard not only are they not a genius, they’re an Omega.”
The listener froze mid-bite, choking slightly in surprise, their eyes widening. “An Omega?! Are you insane?”
The speaker smiled smugly. “See? You’re shocked too.”
The other person snorted. “Of course I’m shocked. With the level most Omegas are at, even if Nebula lifted its admission restrictions, they wouldn’t be able to get in. Besides,”
Before they could finish, someone clapped them heavily on the shoulder.
Frowning, the speaker turned to see another student smiling as they set their tray down and picked up their chopsticks, picking up the thread mockingly. “Besides, most of the students here are Alphas. An Omega studying here is basically a lamb walking into a tiger’s den.”
“Exactly, a lamb in a tiger’s den!” the first student clapped their hands together, laughing. “How could those delicate, fragile Omegas handle a place like this? They’d probably start screaming and crying if an unfamiliar Alpha got within five meters of them. Tch.”
“So?” the person across interrupted. “Did this Omega test in?”
“Definitely not,” the speaker answered, lowering their voice again. “You’ve heard about the Gu Yu situation, right? Rumor has it the royal family found a lost descendant and brought them back. I heard this transfer Omega is that person.”
The students’ expressions shifted to astonishment.
It was no wonder they were shocked Nebula was famously impervious to power and influence. Yet now it had bent the rules, not only tarnishing its long-standing reputation but also breaking a school regulation that had stood for centuries since its founding.
Transfer, heir, Omega. The combination was more than enough to anger the students who had gotten in through hard work and merit.
“And that’s not all,” the informant grinned. “I heard they even moved into the ‘Sky Garden’.”
That statement was like dropping a bomb among the crowd. Even those who had been eavesdropping quietly furrowed their brows, their expressions turning incredulous.
This was an outright disgrace to Nebula University!
Everyone couldn’t help but think.
After all, the “Hanging Gardens” had always been reserved for the top student of each grade. Through generations of tradition, it had almost become a dream destination for the students of Nebula University, a place that could not tolerate the slightest taint.
But now, this pampered Omega, having just ascended to the position of heir, was already reaching out to demand privileges?!
Disgust spread through the crowd, and everyone wore expressions of utter humiliation, suppressing an indescribable rage.
Finally, someone couldn’t hold back any longer. He stood up, walked over to a table, and addressed the handsome young man sitting in the corner, “Jiang Ye, do you even know what’s going on?”
The person whose name was called looked up. “Is something wrong?”
“Isn’t Gu Yu your half-brother?” the person asked impatiently. “Can’t you go and persuade your brother not to give up so easily? Handing over the heir’s position to an Omega isn’t that just laughable?”
Jiang Ye’s expression remained unchanged as he lowered his head. “That’s his decision. I have no right to comment.”
“You won’t even try to persuade him?” The person clicked his tongue in annoyance. “That’s just too heartless.”
Jiang Ye stood up, picked up his tray, and said, “Don’t bring this up again.”
The other person stared in disbelief at his retreating figure and let out an irritated “Tch.”
“Told you not to provoke Jiang Ye. Serves you right, huh?” a companion teased, leaning in with a laugh. “Honestly, what common ground could a Beta possibly have with an Alpha? And you had to bring up his brother. Aren’t you just poking at his insecurities?”
“Exactly. Born to the same mother, one an Alpha, the other a Beta. If it were you, wouldn’t you be furious?”
“Furious? Of course I’d be furious! I’d be absolutely livid!”
The group burst into laughter and banter.
The start of the semester was tentatively scheduled for the weekend.
Nebula University had sent over the class schedule early, along with a box of materials. Yu Ruan spent the entire afternoon cross-referencing the forms the school had mailed him, barely managing to get everything in order by the end of the day.
Itto watched him with heartfelt relief, occasionally dabbing at his tears.
Yu Ruan felt incredibly awkward under his gaze and said sheepishly, “Please don’t look at me like that. I really.” feel a lot of pressure.
Itto cleared his throat and regained his stern expression, gesturing for the other attendants to come in and help Yu Ruan pack his belongings.
While supervising the others, he nagged Yu Ruan, “Your Highness, please take care of your health and eat well. Don’t overwork yourself with studying. It’s fine if you don’t aim for first place.”
Yu Ruan: “…”
For a moment, he wasn’t sure whether to be touched or amused.
The luggage was quickly packed, and it was time to depart. Yu Ruan got into the car and was driven toward his destination.
However, he soon noticed something strange.
The scenery around him grew increasingly familiar, as if he’d seen it before. Memories of his recent experiences resurfaced, and Yu Ruan blinked in confusion, staring at the pristine white dormitory building in the distance. He was left utterly speechless. ???
Why was Nebula University located at Gu Yu’s home?!
Yu Ruan was instantly shocked.
Dazed, he climbed out of the car and headed toward the dormitory building indicated on the map, his mind filled with doubts about the document in his hand.
Had Nebula University really not made a mistake?? Had he truly not accidentally wandered into someone’s private villa??
Recalling Itu’s earlier expression of utter disdain when mentioning the living conditions in the Star Sector, Yu Ruan couldn’t help but look up at the dormitory building in disbelief. No matter how he looked at it, this didn’t seem like the same place.
After a moment’s thought, he opened his light screen, intending to send Gu Yu a message to clarify the situation.
After all, it would be incredibly awkward if he had ended up in the wrong place.
Just as Yu Ruan pulled up his contact list and was about to send the message, a heated argument erupted in the distance. Amid the impassioned voices, he detected a familiar, detached tone, freezing him in place. Instinctively, he took a step back into the shadows.
