The Cannon Fodder Became the Empire's Beloved Omega - Chapter 20
“Cheng Mu, could you help me deliver this document folder to His Highness Gu Yu on your way back? I left it on the table.”
A voice called from afar. The tall, young Alpha lazily replied, “OK,” picked up the neatly packed folder, and headed toward the dormitory building.
At Nebula University, students followed a boarding system. No matter how noble their status, all students had to abide by the rules and share dormitories with others, no exceptions. Unless, of course, one entered the university as the top-ranked student of their year, earning the privilege of residing in the academy’s only private dormitory: the “Sky Garden.”
The Sky Garden was off-limits to outsiders; without proper authorization, entry was impossible. Cheng Mu, simply doing a favor for a junior underclasswoman, leisurely swiped open the Sky Garden’s gate with the paper bag in hand.
After all, who else could they turn to when the elusive “Light of the Nobles” had vanished for months? With no one able to locate him, they had no choice but to seek help from someone as idle and bored as Cheng Mu.
Cheng Mu walked through the garden and stood outside Gu Yu’s door, pressing the doorbell.
He had spotted Gu Yu downstairs just yesterday. Given Gu Yu’s temperament, he was surely still lounging inside Cheng Mu was quite certain of it.
Sure enough.
Before long, a familiar face appeared behind the door. The gap widened slightly, revealing Gu Yu with half-lowered eyelids, his gaze icy as he asked indifferently, “What do you want?”
“Just this, just this.” Cheng Mu handed over the documents. Almost immediately, his keen senses picked up an unusual scent from the person before him.
It was sweet, somewhat like syrup but closer to honey, with a faint hint of creamy fragrance, a stark contrast to Gu Yu’s usual crisp, bitter lemon scent.
Moreover, there was a subtle trace of suppressants. Very faint, but undeniably present.
Cheng Mu felt as though he had stumbled upon something.
Although Nebula University had strict regulations, exceptions always existed. And those residing in the Sky Garden were precisely Nebula’s “exceptions.”
So, it wasn’t entirely unreasonable to bring a beloved companion back to one’s private quarters.
Cheng Mu understood: So, the great young master Gu had been off enjoying himself during these months of disappearance!
He couldn’t help but feel a surge of envy and resentment.
Just then, the aroma of food wafted over from inside. Someone emerged from the inner room holding a plate of steaming maple syrup pancakes, a fair-skinned Omega with dark hair and blue eyes, looking somewhat bewildered as he glanced toward the two.
His eyes were large, his lashes long and curled, his nose delicate and refined, and his lips rosy. He had the kind of appearance typical of the most beautiful and endearing Omegas, yet unexpectedly, he didn’t come across as spoiled. Instead, he exuded a gentle, lovable charm.
In an instant, Cheng Mu felt as if he had been struck.
Without thinking, a jeering remark slipped out: “Who would have thought, our ‘Light of the Nobles’ has learned to keep a beauty hidden away?”
Gu Yu’s expression turned colder. Taking the bag from Cheng Mu, he moved to shut the door.
Seeing this, Cheng Mu quickly thrust his arm out to block it.
He found himself quite intrigued. After all, this renowned “Pride of the Capital Star” was known to be an asexual who despised Omegas and would grow extremely irritated by their presence. Yet now, an Omega had mysteriously appeared by his side enough to pique anyone’s curiosity.
Cheng Mu felt that if he didn’t get to the bottom of this, he’d be letting down all those Omegas who had once tearfully complained to him about how cold and unapproachable Gu Yu was. He’d never be able to flaunt his title as the “Friend of Women” again without feeling ashamed.
Yu Ruan: “?”
What kind of nonsense was this person spouting?
He blinked in confusion, glanced at the plate in his hand, then looked at the unfamiliar visitor in the distance, and said kindly, “Hello, I think you might have mistaken me for someone else.”
“Gu Yu and I aren’t the kind of relationship you’re imagining,” Yu Ruan explained apologetically. “We’re just ordinary friends.”
Cheng Mu: “…”
Even their scents are all over each other, and he expects me to believe that?
For some reason, Cheng Mu felt that the moment Yu Ruan said those words, the already displeased Young Master Gu, who was clearly unhappy about his uninvited entry had an extra layer of frost flash in his eyes.
Without any change in expression, Gu Yu closed the door and walked back inside. “His eyes and ears aren’t very good. There’s no need to explain.”
Yu Ruan blinked, pretending not to hear the first half of Gu Yu’s sulky remark.
He instinctively glanced back toward the kitchen: Thankfully, I bought a little extra ingredients today. He had originally planned to make more and store some in the refrigerator for Gu Yu to eat later. But now, it would be just enough to entertain a guest.
Since Gu Yu hadn’t kicked the stranger out, this unfamiliar Alpha must be on fairly good terms with him.
So, Yu Ruan tentatively asked, “If you haven’t had breakfast yet would you like to try some? I made plenty.”
As soon as he finished speaking, he saw the Alpha’s eyes light up instantly. At the same time, Gu Yu’s expression beside him darkened drastically. The contrast between the two was striking.
“Yes, yes, I’d love to try some!” Cheng Mu happily walked up to Yu Ruan and took a pancake from the plate. “I’ve been starving since this morning, thanks to the student council running me ragged. Thank you so much, you’re too kind.”
Hearing this, Gu Yu’s expression grew even worse. “Once you’ve had a taste, get out.”
Seeing Gu Yu’s furrowed brows, Yu Ruan felt a pang of guilt: I made these for him, but a stranger got to taste them first. That’s really not right.
Thinking this, he tugged lightly on Gu Yu’s sleeve and whispered apologetically, “If you don’t like this, I can make another batch for you later, okay?”
Gu Yu paused slightly and glanced sideways at Yu Ruan. The sea-blue eyes of the Omega beside him were filled with sincere apology, as if he genuinely regretted his earlier actions.
He lowered his lashes, reached out, and took a pancake from the plate. “No need.”
The crisp texture was enveloped in the thick, sweet aroma of maple syrup, complemented by the slight tartness of diced apples. With just one bite, an overwhelming sense of happiness surged from the depths of his heart.
Cheng Mu, who had unfortunately overheard the entire exchange: “…”
Don’t ask. If you do, it’s just jealousy.
By the time breakfast was over, half an hour had already passed.
After finishing the unforgettable maple syrup pancake, Cheng Mu didn’t even have time to share a few words of praise before Gu Yu promptly “ushered” him out the door.
Standing outside, he felt deeply aggrieved and wanted to protest the unreasonable behavior of the eldest son of the Gu family. But no matter how hard he knocked, there was no response from inside.
Cheng Mu could only sigh and reluctantly give up.
To be fair, he had wanted to ask Gu Yu’s little Omega for some advice. He had never tasted such delicious pancakes before, but who would have thought Gu Yu could be so stingy!
He only ate three pieces, didn’t he?? Clearly, that little Omega had left plenty more for him in the kitchen!!
This was truly infuriating for a single person like him!
Indignantly, Cheng Mu thought: It seems he would have to wait until the next noble banquet to search again. Such a beautiful and well-behaved Omega, introduced to Gu Yu by someone, must come from a decent family background.
With a little effort, he would surely be able to find them.
Gu Yu placed the plate into the sink. The standby robot nearby lit up and moved closer to start washing the dishes.
He took a step back and glanced at Yu Ruan in the distance. “Let me take you back.”
Yu Ruan instinctively wanted to refuse but quickly sensed an unyielding tone in the other’s voice. Realizing it wasn’t a big deal, he nodded and said, “Okay.”
And so, the two of them walked downstairs together.
The car was already waiting outside. Gu Yu watched as Yu Ruan got into the car before walking to the other side, lowering his head, and taking a seat. A faint scent of lime drifted through the narrow, enclosed space, causing Yu Ruan’s cheeks to flush slightly once more.
He quickly turned his head, pretending to look at the scenery outside.
Perhaps the young master was in a bad mood, which was why he hadn’t bothered to suppress his pheromones entirely. After all, he had just been pestered by his annoying friend, and his expression had been quite unpleasant when he saw him out.
Yu Ruan comforted himself with this thought.
The sleek silver sports car started with a roar, speeding off toward Atlan Palace.
The scenery on both sides of the road flew past in a blur. Yu Ruan leaned back in his seat, feeling rather uncomfortable and a bit nervous. He was used to riding in smoothly driven cars and had never experienced such speed before.
Although he knew that the traffic system, managed entirely by AI through the star network, made accidents impossible, driving at such a high speed was still incredibly thrilling.
The fragile heart of a native Blue Planet resident simply couldn’t handle it.
Just then, a hand suddenly appeared in front of Yu Ruan.
Accompanying the hand was the calm, yet slightly warm voice of the person beside him: “If you’re scared, hold on.”
Yu Ruan widened his eyes in surprise, feeling a bit embarrassed. “It’s fine, I can.” endure.
Before he could finish speaking, the hand in front of him suddenly grasped his own, which was tightly clutching the seatbelt. Then, with a gentle turn, their fingers intertwined, locking firmly together.
Warm body heat transmitted through their connected skin. Yu Ruan’s face flushed, and strangely, the tension in his heart eased considerably, replaced by a faint, fluttering heartbeat.
He pretended to nonchalantly shift his gaze slightly, using the corner of his eye to glance at Gu Yu sitting to his left. He noticed the other’s calm expression, his eyes slightly turned toward the window, lost in thought.
This realization instantly made Yu Ruan bow his head in shame, unable to resist starting to reflect on himself.
He really was terrible, Yu Ruan thought. The young master’s gesture was clearly a friendly handshake, what was he thinking?
With that thought, his heartbeat gradually calmed, and his breathing became smoother. Just then, the sports car suddenly turned, entering the gates of Atlan Palace, and came to a stop before the main entrance.
In the distance, another unfamiliar deep-blue sports car gradually slowed down, also parking in front of Atlan Palace’s gates. Puzzled, Yu Ruan glanced over and saw the car door open, revealing a figure he recognized all too well.
The other person looked over from afar, his gaze sweeping past the license plate of their sports car. He raised an eyebrow slightly, a hint of amusement playing on his lips, before striding purposefully in their direction.
