The Cannon Fodder Became the Empire's Beloved Omega - Chapter 19
Initially, Itu had no intention of following that so-called “rule.” But the charm of the Omega before him had won him over, making him sincerely convinced, and he no longer planned to bring up the matter of the previous heir.
But now…
Itu found himself in a dilemma.
In the end, he yielded to Yu Ruan’s bewildered and helpless expression, deciding to quietly conceal the matter and not tell anyone.
He bowed respectfully to Yu Ruan. “Very well, please follow me.”
Yu Ruan nodded, thanked him, and was guided by Itu to the car.
“Ahem.” Watching him get into the car, Itu cleared his throat hesitantly and said seriously, “Your Highness, Yu Ruan.”
“?”
“Please be careful,” and don’t get hurt by His Highness Gu Yu.
After all, although the other party was famously known as the “Light of the Nobility,” his temper was equally notorious for being unapproachable! Even though their relationship seemed amiable during their last encounter at the spaceport.
Itu couldn’t help but worry.
Yu Ruan mistook the concern in his eyes for the instinctive care of an elder for a child going on a long journey. Deeply moved, he nodded at him. “There’s no need to worry. I’ll be very careful.”
“Alright.”
Yu Ruan waved at him with a smile.
The car door slowly closed, carrying Yu Ruan onto the road. This was Yu Ruan’s first chance to see the capital planet up close, and he couldn’t help but feel curious, carefully observing the street scenes around him.
The capital planet truly lived up to its reputation as the heart of the empire. Beautiful trees lined the roads, sleek automated trams sped by, and towering skyscrapers pierced the sky. Compared to the backward planet of Konan, it was immeasurably more advanced.
Yu Ruan felt as if he were personally touring a sci-fi film, completely unaware that the car carrying him had just passed by a massive sculpture inscribed with the words “Stellar Cloud.”
As they reached the destination, the car gradually slowed down. Yu Ruan stepped out and found himself in front of a luxurious villa that was no less impressive than the Atlan Palace.
The villa was vast calling it a villa seemed almost an understatement. It was more like a palace with slightly fewer floors but no less grandeur.
Gu Yu’s family was clearly wealthy!
With a sense of awe, Yu Ruan glanced at the address sent to him and walked toward the villa’s entrance.
At the door stood a pristine white robot. Detecting someone approaching, its eyes instantly lit up and it turned stiffly toward Yu Ruan. “Please complete the entry registration.”
It extended a hand to Yu Ruan. “Please scan your fingerprint.”
Yu Ruan cooperatively high-fived the robot. A faint red light flashed in the robot’s eyes, accompanied by a soft “beep.” “Your Highness Yu Ruan, ID No. 2003917, your information has been registered. Welcome to the Sky Garden! We wish you a pleasant stay!”
Quite intelligent.
Yu Ruan couldn’t help but marvel at the convenience of high technology. He stepped away from the robot, and the elevator door in the distance automatically opened. Walking over, he was immediately carried upward to his designated floor.
A moment later, the elevator door opened before him, revealing a breathtaking sea of flowers. A variety of exotic blooms competed in splendor, bursting vibrantly across meticulously crafted floral walls, as if he had stumbled into a fairy tale.
Yu Ruan felt he might have to take back his earlier remark.
Young Master Gu’s family wasn’t just wealthy, they were extraordinarily wealthy!!
Yu Ruan guiltily made his way through the flowerbeds, careful not to trample any of the blossoms. It wasn’t until he neared the garden’s exit that he spotted the corridor hidden behind the vine-covered pavilion.
He quickly walked over and stood before the doorplate, giving a light knock.
Soon, the door swung open. Gu Yu’s face appeared behind it, still wearing that indifferent, lazy expression, his eyes half-lowered as if he had little interest in anything.
“Morning?” After a moment’s thought, Yu Ruan decided to take the initiative and greet him.
Gu Yu let out a vague, muffled “Mm” from his throat, fully opening the door to make space. “Morning.”
Yu Ruan stepped into the room through the space Gu Yu had made, and the first thing that caught his eye was a stark expanse of white. Dark gray curtains hung all the way to the floor, blocking out the light from outside. One wall of the living room had been converted into a bookshelf, filled with books of varying thicknesses.
Beyond that, the room was empty, devoid of any other furnishings.
Except for a rather clueless-looking robot butler, diligently carrying out its cleaning duties.
Yu Ruan found it hard to believe: this spartan, almost austere room was it really the same person’s residence as the lush garden outside?
He couldn’t help but glance outside again. The movement seemed to catch Gu Yu’s attention. He shifted his gaze to Yu Ruan. “Something wrong?”
Yu Ruan quickly shook his head, straightened his posture, and put on a very earnest expression. “No!”
However, in his heart, he felt even more certain about his guess regarding Gu Yu’s identity as the young master. He couldn’t help but think to himself: The young master really lives such a pitiful life. He has a home but can’t go back, it’s truly heartbreaking.
Yu Ruan felt it was his duty to care for and support Gu Yu, to help him feel the warmth of a home.
Even if Gu Yu’s rebellious phase seemed to have arrived a bit late, it didn’t matter. As a friend, Yu Ruan wouldn’t hold it against him!
Having made up his mind, Yu Ruan immediately took the initiative to ask, “Gu, Landlord, have you had breakfast yet?”
He wasn’t quite sure how he should address the other.
Gu Yu glanced at him sideways and said flatly, “Just call me by my name.”
“Mm, mm.” Yu Ruan nodded.
“Not yet.” Gu Yu opened the refrigerator, took out a bottle of chilled mineral water, and unscrewed the cap. “Wait a moment.”
Yu Ruan looked at him blankly.
Gu Yu didn’t say anything. He first set the bottle down on the nearby counter, then retrieved a white medicine container from the fridge. Casually shaking out two pills, he bit into the capsules as if intending to swallow them with water.
Only then did Yu Ruan realize that what Gu Yu had taken out were nutrient supplements meant to sustain bodily functions.
For a moment, Yu Ruan was stunned. He immediately stood up from where he was sitting, hurried over to Gu Yu’s side, and interrupted his attempt to swallow. “Wait.”
Gu Yu, with half a mouthful of mineral water, lifted his eyelids slightly, his eyes questioning Yu Ruan’s intent.
Yu Ruan looked at the bottle of chilled water, now beaded with condensation, in Gu Yu’s hand and felt a pang of distress: Does the young master even realize how bad it is for his stomach to drink ice-cold water on an empty stomach?
And paired with those bland, tasteless nutrient supplements this person was far too careless with himself.
Yu Ruan thought that even during his own toughest times, he had never been as negligent as Gu Yu was now.
“Is there anything you’d like to eat? I can make it for you,” he said.
“No need to trouble yourself.” Gu Yu’s tone was indifferent. He averted his gaze and was about to swallow the nutrient solution held on his tongue.
“No!” Yu Ruan decisively stopped the person in front of him. He firmly snatched the water bottle from Gu Yu’s hand and set it aside. Then, he walked over to the robot butler and greeted it, “Hello, could you retrieve your owner’s recipe list?”
The robot butler’s screen flickered, displaying a string of text:
Nutrient solution, maple syrup, maple syrup-flavored nutrient solution, nutrient solution.
Yu Ruan: “…” It seemed this person was even more careless than he had imagined.
He turned and gave Gu Yu a reproachful look. However, the Alpha who had mercilessly tormented his own stomach showed no sign of remorse.
The other remained unmoved, as if the matter had nothing to do with him.
After a moment’s thought, Yu Ruan said to the robot, “Hello, could you help me purchase some ingredients?”
The robot’s indicator light lit up: “Please proceed.”
Yu Ruan promptly listed a series of ingredients.
He noticed that the other seemed to have a particular fondness for sweets. Though not particularly skilled, he thought he could try making maple syrup pancakes. Perhaps Gu Yu would like them.
After listing the ingredients, the payment interface for the Star Network immediately appeared on the robot’s screen.
Yu Ruan glanced at the price: it wasn’t particularly expensive and was well within his budget. After a brief pause, he prepared to take out his light brain to make the payment.
Unexpectedly, a faint scent of lime suddenly wafted over. Yu Ruan felt a sudden warmth at the back of his neck, and the subtle pheromone scent drifted to his nose, instantly causing his face to flush slightly.
Damn physiological reactions!
Almost instinctively, Yu Ruan wanted to step back a little to make room for the other, so that the unrestrained pheromones could stay a bit farther away from him and avoid affecting his fragile Omega body.
Perhaps due to long-term use of inhibitors disguised as an Alpha’s, he wasn’t very resistant to Alpha pheromones. Even a slight proximity would make his scalp tingle, and his glands would begin to heat up faintly.
“Don’t move.” A cool voice sounded by his ear, firmly blocking Yu Ruan’s retreat. A pale, slender hand brushed past his cheek, skimmed over the screen, and tapped lightly a few times to complete the payment.
Only then did Gu Yu finally release him: “Done.”
Yu Ruan, as if granted a reprieve, immediately stepped away from the robot butler and quietly put a little more distance between himself and the Alpha in front of him.
He felt the tips of his ears heating up slightly, embarrassingly turning red. Yu Ruan lowered his head rather awkwardly and said hurriedly, “I’ll go take care of some other things first. Could you wait for me in the living room?”
Gu Yu’s dark blue eyes fixed on him, unmoving. After a long while, a lazy “Mm” emerged from his throat, signaling his agreement.
Yu Ruan breathed a sigh of relief. “If the Star Network delivery arrives, could you bring the items into the kitchen?” he asked tentatively.
“Okay.”
Only then did Yu Ruan finally relax completely.
Without bothering to be polite with the person in front of him, he quickly turned and hurried into the kitchen. Though maple syrup pancakes were simple to make, making them exceptionally delicious was no easy task.
The thinness of the pancake, the control of the heat, and the careful selection of ingredients were all crucial.
StarNet Logistics was always incredibly fast. After processing the ingredients delivered by the courier, Yu Ruan drizzled a layer of steaming maple syrup over the freshly fried pancake, and everything was finally complete.
Happily holding the plate, he prepared to take it out and serve it to Gu Yu.
Just then, a “ding-dong” sound, like a doorbell, suddenly echoed from outside the house into the kitchen.
Yu Ruan looked toward the door in confusion. He saw Gu Yu already walking to the entrance to open the door for the unknown visitor. A handsome Alpha stood outside, a smile on his face, lightly sniffing the aroma of the food as he glanced in Yu Ruan’s direction.
“Oh,” he said with a playful grin, exuding a roguish and unrestrained air, his eyes shifting between Yu Ruan and Gu Yu. “Who would’ve thought, our ‘Pride of the Nobility’ has learned to keep a beauty hidden away?”
