The Black Lotus Omega Always Wraps His Tail Around Me - Chapter 46
Ji Mingtao’s expression darkened immediately.
The driver in the front seat sensed the sudden tension. With one glance at the speed limit sign, he stepped hard on the accelerator.
Ji Yanwan had not heard the phone conversation. She only noticed that the person who had just been smiling was now wearing a cold expression. In her heart, she quietly wondered if she had gotten into trouble again without realizing it.
Bai Li, sitting beside her, had already guessed most of what had happened. After An Ge called Ji Mingtao, the same message was forwarded to her.
The journey that usually took more than two hours was finished in just an hour and a half.
Ji Yanwan was still in her everyday clothes when Ji Mingtao dropped her off outside the stylist’s studio. Without a word, Ji Mingtao’s car sped off down the road.
Ji Yanwan turned to look at the person next to her.
Standing there with her was Bai Li, who had also been left behind. Ji Yanwan glanced at the fading trail of exhaust in the air, her face full of confusion.
Bai Li shifted her gaze calmly. She was already mentally prepared to be the one left to clean up whatever came next.
If there had been no speed limits, Ji Mingtao probably would have told the driver to press the pedal to the floor.
The sun was shining brightly in Jiangcheng that day. Though it was already late afternoon, the sun still hung high in the sky.
Bai Li raised her hand to block the glare. Looking at the sunlight that filtered through her fingers, she sighed quietly to herself.
Right now, the Cheng family was like the sun. On the surface, it still looked radiant and powerful. But in truth, it was already fading, slowly burning out like a candle near its end.
The stylist had been arranged in advance by Ji Mingtao. Bai Li didn’t know why she had been dropped off as well, but since she was there, she was pulled into the styling process too.
Throughout the session, Bai Li kept glancing at Ji Yanwan.
Ji Yanwan, however, was surprisingly obedient. She followed every instruction from the stylist without complaining.
Noticing the frequent glances, Ji Yanwan asked with confusion, “What’s wrong, sis?”
Her hair had just been washed and was now being curled with a bunch of rollers. She looked like an old-fashioned landlady who owned five buildings. Because the rollers were heating up, soft white steam was rising from the top of her head.
Her eyes blinked with confusion, and her face looked hilariously silly.
Bai Li couldn’t help herself. The mix of the silly expression and the ridiculous hairstyle, along with the little puffs of steam, made her burst into laughter.
Ji Yanwan blinked, stunned. She seemed unsure whether Bai Li was actually laughing.
Bai Li was naturally beautiful, with a cold and distant expression. People often felt she was unapproachable, even intimidating, because of her sharp features and strong presence.
Although many admired her looks, no one had ever dared get close.
So when Bai Li smiled, it was like a layer of frost had melted. The coldness in her eyes faded, replaced by a hint of sunlight.
Ji Yanwan was caught off guard by how beautiful that smile was. Despite her silly hairdo, she beamed and said, “You look so pretty when you smile. You should smile more.”
Bai Li’s smile lingered. No one had ever made that kind of request before.
Looking at the foolish girl sitting in front of her with steam rising from her hair, Bai Li smiled even more.
Ji Yanwan hadn’t expected her to respond like that. She grinned widely, but when she turned her head, she forgot the hot rollers were still there. A puff of steam hit her scalp, and she winced in pain.
Bai Li laughed again, the curve of her lips remaining light and soft.
She wasn’t sure if it was just her imagination, but the person beside her seemed to have changed. Ji Yanwan, who used to be careless and reckless, now felt more grounded. The bratty behavior was gone, or at least hidden. She no longer seemed like the useless third daughter that everyone found annoying. Instead, there was something genuinely sweet about her now.
Bai Li had never thought her opinion of Ji Yanwan would change, and she never expected to accept her so naturally.
If Ji Yanwan had always been like this, she probably would have been even more loved and spoiled.
The stylist was focused and professional. From picking out the outfit to completing the hairstyle, she worked nonstop.
Ji Yanwan, meanwhile, pulled Bai Li into a few rounds of a card game called Fight the Landlord.
She turned out to be unusually good at it and managed to win all of Bai Li’s game coins.
Bai Li looked at her empty account and laughed in disbelief. She couldn’t believe she had never noticed this hidden talent before.
By the time they were finished playing, the sky had completely darkened.
They were almost fully dressed and ready to go.
Ji Yanwan was wearing a black satin qipao. The fabric was embroidered with subtle patterns, and a deep red flower had been delicately stitched near the slit using traditional Su embroidery.
The red of the flower bloomed at the hem of her dress. Her figure was graceful, her features elegant and bold, and her red lips brought the look together.
When she turned around, Bai Li was momentarily stunned.
She had always known that the three Ji sisters were each striking in their own way, but each had a different kind of beauty.
Ji Hesong was like the gentle spring breeze. Ji Mingtao was like the fierce sun at noon.
Ji Yanwan had always seemed like nothing more than a pretty face with no substance.
But after spending time on the film set, Bai Li began to feel like Ji Yanwan was more like a deep, still lake. The surface was calm and quiet, but who knew what lay beneath.
Perhaps it was just the outfit and makeup creating that impression.
But those gray eyes seemed to hold countless thoughts, all hidden behind the frame of her glasses.
Bai Li had never seen this side of Ji Yanwan before. It felt new and unfamiliar. The mature styling didn’t clash with her image at all. In fact, Ji Yanwan wore it with surprising confidence and ease.
For the first time, Bai Li thought that maybe Ji Yanwan wasn’t as simple as she had once believed.
The car came to a stop. The window rolled down halfway, revealing the elegant side profile of a beautiful woman.
Fu Suihe looked nothing like she had that morning. She had changed into a white evening gown, graceful and understated. Her long hair was gently curled and flowed over her shoulders.
It was as if she had been born to wear white. The gown hugged her figure perfectly, showing off her poise and grace.
A doorman stepped forward and opened the car door. Her nude heels touched the marble steps with a light sound.
Fu Suihe tucked her hair behind her ear and looked toward the entrance of the banquet hall.
Tonight’s event was a celebration for the Zhao family’s recent business success. It was also their official step toward joining the ranks of the Four Great Families.
Abu followed behind her, carrying her purse and handing the invitation to security as they made their way inside.
They were not late, but they certainly weren’t early either.
After leaving Wuzhen that morning, Fu Suihe didn’t return to Jiangcheng. Instead, she went to a nearby city called Lincheng.
There, a modest small-to-mid-sized company was quietly beginning to rise.
This company had its hands in many industries, not focused on just one. Recently, it had been expanding into real estate.
The Zhao family’s invitation had also been sent to this company. Fu Suihe gave it only a brief glance before crumpling it up and tossing it aside.
Yet by seven in the evening, she appeared on time at the banquet hall’s entrance.
The venue was a private estate owned by the Zhao family, located some distance from the city center. Security was tight, and guards were stationed all around the perimeter.
Abu handed over the handwritten invitation from Zhao Mumu at the gate and followed Fu Suihe inside.
Many guests had already arrived. A cellist and pianist played gentle melodies, and the hall was filled with soft lighting and clinking glasses.
Fu Suihe accepted a glass of wine from a server and quietly settled into a sofa in the corner, waiting for the main guests of the night to arrive.
Abu kept her distance after entering. She circled the room once with a wine glass in hand, then sat on the other end of Fu Suihe’s sofa.
“The Cheng family might not make it tonight,” Abu said, lowering her voice after pretending to sip her wine. “Ji Mingtao’s car collided with theirs on the road. From what I heard, there was no warning, just a direct crash.”
“She was driving herself, not a chauffeur.”
“Ji Hesong was unharmed, but Cheng Qi, who was sitting on the other side of the car, has a mild concussion. The car door was dented inward. Her runaway sister is rushing back from the mountains to Jiangcheng.”
“And somehow, the Fu family’s car, which had been traveling alongside, fell behind at the last minute and avoided the crash completely.”
Fu Suihe took a slow sip of her wine and simply smiled, saying nothing.
It seemed Ji Mingtao cared even more about Ji Hesong than expected. And Cheng Qi apparently wasn’t as indifferent toward Ji Hesong as she claimed.
This was only a warning shot, yet Ji Mingtao dared to ram the car in public. If Fu Suihe escalated things from here…
Her eyes wandered across the room, but she didn’t see any familiar faces.
Once Abu finished sharing the news, she stood up and returned to mingle with the other guests.
Fu Suihe sat upright, waiting patiently for her targets to appear.
The banquet hall was full of laughter and chatter. Guests toasted one another, and the Zhao couple greeted every person who came to offer congratulations.
The calm and harmonious atmosphere made Fu Suihe feel slightly bored.
Suddenly, the doors to the hall were pulled open. Two figures appeared at the entrance.
Fu Leiwu entered with his wife, followed by their son and daughter.
Of the four major families, the Fu family was the first to arrive.
The Zhao couple looked surprised and hesitated. They didn’t step forward to greet them immediately.
But Fu Leiwu laughed heartily and approached them without waiting for an invitation, walking directly into their circle of conversation.
Many guests turned to look. Some eyes held scorn, others held quiet reflection.
Those who had done business with the Fu family in the past stood with their wine glasses, unsure whether to step forward or stay back.
Fu Leiwu ignored all of it. He never cared about other people’s opinions.
Fu Suihe watched as Fu Leiwu quickly blended into the crowd, laughing and chatting. Her lips curved in a cold, mocking smile.
In a way, Fu Leiwu’s shamelessness was admirable. After orchestrating the death of his own younger brother and stealing the family fortune, he still managed to survive the storm of public criticism and secure his place as head of the Fu family.
Fu Suihe looked away and took another sip of wine. She had no interest in Fu Leiwu now. His desperate efforts to win over everyone here would only work in her favor.
Just as she was distracted by her thoughts, the doors opened again.
A woman stood in the doorway with a visible injury. Her head was wrapped in white bandages.
Despite this, Cheng Qi walked in confidently on high heels, her head held high.
Her injuries were clearly worse than Abu had described. Given Ji Mingtao’s reputation, the damage actually seemed surprisingly light.
Ji Mingtao took a sip of wine and gently shook her head. It was too light. Cheng Qi should not have been let off so easily.
Many guests had heard whispers of what happened earlier that day, and none dared approach her too quickly.
Everyone knew what Ji Mingtao was capable of. Since no one from the Ji family had arrived yet, most chose to wait and watch.
Cheng Qi didn’t seem to care. She offered a polite congratulation to the Zhao couple, then made no effort to continue the conversation.
If her entrance was like a stone dropped into a quiet lake, sending out soft ripples,
Then the person who entered next threw a heavy rock into that same lake, stirring it into chaos.
For the first time that evening, Fu Suihe’s eyes lit up.
The woman at the entrance wore her black hair pinned up. Her fitted black qipao made her look bold and elegant.
She didn’t enter right away but stood by the door and politely stepped aside, making room for someone behind her.
The brightness in Fu Suihe’s gaze vanished instantly. Her expression grew cold.
Ji Yanwan reached out to help the person beside her.
Zhao Mumu, dressed in a flowing white gown, smiled gently and placed her hand on Ji Yanwan’s arm.
