The Black Lotus Omega Always Wraps His Tail Around Me - Chapter 45
When Ji Yanwan woke up, her head was pounding.
She had gone to bed too late the night before, leaving her entire body feeling uncomfortable. What made it worse was waking up to find the space beside her completely empty.
Fu Suihe was nowhere to be seen. In the small room, she was all alone.
Ji Yanwan stared blankly at the ceiling as her mind slowly returned to focus.
Suddenly, the phone on the bedside table vibrated twice. Before she could reach for it, the door was pushed open.
It was already bright outside. The sky was overcast, and the foggy weather blurred the figure standing at the doorway.
Through the hazy light, she could vaguely see a slender silhouette. The fitted fabric hugged her graceful curves, highlighting her delicate waist. Strands of hair fell loosely, adding a touch of lazy elegance. The misty background wrapped around the figure like something out of a painting, resembling a beauty stepping out of a dream.
Ji Yanwan stared in a daze as this picturesque figure slowly approached her.
Today, Fu Suihe wore a light green qipao. Her long hair was pinned up with a wooden hairpin, and a light touch of makeup adorned her face.
Sensing something, Fu Suihe lifted her head and looked toward the bed.
In that instant, their eyes met, and time seemed to freeze.
Those bright, fox-like eyes, framed by brows as soft as distant hills, paired with the pale green qipao, gave Ji Yanwan the illusion of having wandered straight into a spring breeze in Jiangnan, only to run right into her.
Fu Suihe smiled gently and said, “You’re awake? Hurry and get ready, it’s time to eat.”
Only then did Ji Yanwan notice that Fu Suihe had entered the room carrying a small pot of porridge.
It was corn and pumpkin porridge, slowly simmered over low heat. The sweet scent drifted from the wooden ladle and filled the entire room.
Her not-yet-fully-recovered body reacted instinctively. Her stomach growled loudly.
Fu Suihe clearly heard it and smiled softly, her lips curving into a quiet laugh.
Her smile lit up the room, pushing away the gloom and fog outside. It was as if flowers had bloomed across her expression, brightening the space completely.
Ji Yanwan, who had been planning to stay in bed a bit longer, gave up and sat up quickly.
…
…
Ji Mingtao sat in the car, rubbing her temples in frustration.
The ride was smooth, and the road wasn’t bumpy, but she couldn’t shake the sense of agitation.
She glanced at her phone. The pinned message from ten minutes ago still had no reply.
For some reason, she felt an unexplained sense of panic rising in her chest.
Outside the window, trees passed by in scattered shadows. As they drew closer to Wuzhen, the sky grew darker. The heavy weather weighed on her mood like a thick blanket.
Unable to sit still, Ji Mingtao rolled down the window and lit a cigarette with her fingers.
The taste of nicotine filled the air and brought her a moment of calm.
Ji Mingtao didn’t enjoy smoking. What she liked was the faint scent of tobacco that lingered on Ji Hesong.
No matter what it was—even things she normally disliked—as long as they were connected to Ji Hesong, they brought her peace.
Her mind wandered again to that rainy night on Ji Hesong’s coming-of-age birthday.
She had deliberately let herself get soaked and knocked on her elder sister’s door.
The woman who was kind to everyone would never ignore her drenched little sister.
So Ji Mingtao had used that compassion and barged into Ji Hesong’s room.
She had forcefully taken everything from her.
That night was something Ji Mingtao would never forget. Every time she thought about it, she would fall into the memory again.
She was sixteen. She had done something that others would consider disgraceful.
But she never regretted it. She didn’t care about being seen as a monster or a lunatic.
Because the only identity she wanted was to be Ji Hesong’s lover.
Thinking back to the kiss she had stolen before leaving, Ji Mingtao smiled softly. She could still faintly smell the scent of sweet oranges on her nose.
Everything that could soothe her was tied to only one name.
When the cigarette burned out, Ji Mingtao finally felt a little calmer.
The driver pulled over smoothly. After putting out the cigarette, Ji Mingtao typed out a message and sent it before opening the car door.
Bai Li was already waiting by the roadside. When she saw Ji Mingtao get out, she deliberately slowed her steps.
As she approached, Bai Li caught the faint scent of smoke on her. It was the same kind of slim cigarette Ji Hesong often smoked—light and laced with a subtle orange aroma.
Bai Li frowned. “Didn’t you say you don’t smoke?”
Ji Mingtao simply smiled. “The ones you smoke are way harsher than this. What, you find a mild orange-scented one too much to handle?”
She put emphasis on the word “orange,” her lips curled with amusement.
Bai Li sighed inwardly. Sometimes she really thought Ji Mingtao and Ji Yanwan seemed more like real sisters—both driven entirely by love.
Of course, that wasn’t something she dared say aloud.
She casually glanced at the empty car and finally noticed Ji Hesong hadn’t come.
Noticing her look, Ji Mingtao said, “She wanted to come, but Wuzhen is too far. I didn’t feel comfortable letting her tire herself out, so she stayed back.”
Bai Li said nothing for a moment.
She rolled her eyes. “I didn’t ask.”
“But I wanted to say it,” Ji Mingtao replied with a wider smile. She patted Bai Li on the shoulder and added, “Once this is over, I’ll give you a long vacation. Go find yourself a girlfriend.”
Bai Li slapped her hand away, looking annoyed. “I have no intention of becoming love-crazed like you.”
Ji Mingtao didn’t mind her attitude at all. She grinned and asked, “By the way, how’s my hopelessly in-love little sister doing? Has she caused any trouble yet?”
When she finally got to the main topic, Bai Li shook her head and said, “She’s been pretty well-behaved. She’s focused on filming and learning, goes back and forth between the set and the rest house, and hasn’t caused any more trouble.”
Ji Mingtao looked thoughtful.
“As for the flowers, we found out it wasn’t Fu Suihe who sent them,” Bai Li said, pressing her lips together. “We did catch her assistant placing an order once, but the flowers were sent from a remote mountain area. It’s part of a charity project Fu Suihe has been supporting for over a year.”
Ji Mingtao frowned. If it wasn’t Fu Suihe pretending to be Ji Hesong and sending flowers to Cheng Qi, then who else could it be?
As if remembering something, Bai Li added, “We also found out that Zhao Mumu placed an order at one of the flower shops in Wuzhen recently.”
“Zhao Mumu?” Ji Mingtao repeated the name, thinking of that call from the other night. She let out a quiet, sarcastic laugh.
Bai Li didn’t understand her reaction and waited, but Ji Mingtao said nothing more.
“Let’s go,” Ji Mingtao said as she swept her long hair back. She wore a black velvet gown with ten-centimeter heels and bold red lipstick, standing out sharply against the dull and gray weather.
As Bai Li watched her walk away, for a moment it felt like a fire had flared up in the middle of this colorless little town.
When Ji Mingtao found Ji Yanwan, she was walking behind Chen Fei, discussing the next scene’s script.
Chen Fei, who usually wore suits, was now dressed in a gray tracksuit, her long hair tied in a high ponytail. She looked youthful and full of energy.
Ji Mingtao found the scene hard to believe. She crossed her arms and stood outside watching them.
Ji Yanwan looked serious and focused. While speaking with Chen Fei, she kept her eyes on the script and asked questions whenever she didn’t understand something.
Chen Fei clearly appreciated such a hardworking student and didn’t hold back in sharing everything she knew.
For a moment, Ji Mingtao was stunned. Ever since she had known Ji Yanwan, she had always thought of her one way.
Foolish.
Ji Yanwan had all the bad habits typical of daughters from wealthy families but none of the good ones.
Since she was little, she had shown her flaws openly, without trying to hide them. She couldn’t even be bothered to pretend to behave well.
The Ji family had cleaned up after her countless times. Ji Mingtao had assumed this was just another phase and that Ji Yanwan had only joined the production on a whim. She expected her to start complaining about how tiring and hard everything was within three days and demand to go home.
But this time, Ji Yanwan hadn’t said a word about going home. Instead, she had taken the work seriously.
Ji Mingtao continued watching. It was clear that this wasn’t some act put on for her sake. Ji Yanwan was genuinely trying.
That shifted Ji Mingtao’s view of her a little. If she could keep this up for the entire production and slowly start shedding those bad habits,
Then Ji Mingtao might actually be willing to bring her back and keep her close for guidance.
She wasn’t sure how long she had been standing there when Bai Li finally knocked lightly on the door, pulling both Ji Yanwan and Chen Fei out of their conversation.
They both looked surprised by the unexpected interruption.
It was Ji Mingtao who looked the most at ease. Her mood seemed a little better. She lifted her hand and curled her fingers. “Come here.”
Ji Yanwan happily ran over without hesitation.
When she reached her, Ji Mingtao nodded at Chen Fei as a polite gesture. “Sorry for taking up your afternoon. I need to take my sister home for a bit.”
Chen Fei had heard of Ji Mingtao before, but seeing her in person left him speechless for a moment.
If he didn’t know she was such a powerful figure in the business world, he would have handed her a casting card right there and then.
By the time he snapped out of it, both women were already gone.
It had been a while since Ji Yanwan had seen her sister. The short separation had actually made her miss her a little.
She had a serious weakness for good looks. And since her generous six-figure monthly allowance came from this beautiful woman, if Ji Yanwan had a tail, she would have been wagging it in the sky by now.
Ji Mingtao glanced at her sister’s silly expression and curled her lips in distaste. “Let’s go.”
Ji Yanwan grinned and followed her.
After a few steps, Ji Mingtao noticed something odd. She turned to her with a puzzled look. “Why didn’t you beg me to bring your fiancée along?”
Bai Li had already told her about the invitation Fu Suihe received, so if nothing had changed, she should be attending the banquet with Ji Yanwan.
Ji Yanwan hadn’t expected the question. She blinked and said, “Suihe said she needed to go back to the Fu family for a bit. She left right after breakfast.”
Ji Mingtao nodded, still unsure whether to believe it. She was just about to ask more when her phone suddenly rang.
As soon as she picked it up, the voice on the other end sounded panicked.
“Miss, something happened. Ji Hesong was just picked up by a car from the Cheng family.”
Ji Mingtao’s face turned cold. Then came the second part of the sentence, and a dangerous look appeared in her eyes.
“The Fu family was with them.”
