The Black Lotus Omega Always Wraps His Tail Around Me - Chapter 41
Among the people Wu Laoshi invited to dinner, it wasn’t just Fu Suihe, Hu Luobei was there too.
So when Fu Suihe arrived late and stood at the doorway, soft laughter could be heard coming from inside the private dining room.
As she pushed open the door, the two people chatting and smiling inside immediately paused and turned to look at her.
The moment she walked in, Wu Laoshi’s face lit up with a smile.
She had invited both girls because she was worried neither would show up. To her surprise, both of them came.
Fu Suihe was slightly taken aback, but quickly regained her composure. She smiled and said politely, “I’m so sorry for being late. Something unexpected happened before I left. I hope I didn’t keep you waiting too long.”
Her voice was soft and her tone sincere.
Wu Laoshi waved her hand with a carefree smile. “It’s no problem. We haven’t been waiting long.”
“Suihe, let me introduce you.” Wu Laoshi gently pulled her over and said, “This is Hu Luobei. She shares quite a few scenes with your on-screen partner. Her older sister is Hu Li.”
“Hu Li’s sister?” Fu Suihe looked at the girl seated at the far end of the table and gave her a warm smile. “Nice to meet you. I’ve worked with your sister before.”
Hu Luobei stood up and nodded politely. “My sister rarely talks about her work, but I’ve heard your name many times, Miss Fu.”
Seeing that the two of them were getting along just fine, Wu Laoshi relaxed. After calling the waiter to place the order, she turned back to continue chatting with Fu Suihe.
The atmosphere in the room quickly became relaxed and cheerful.
Hu Luobei, who had been sitting quietly, stood up and offered to pour tea for them.
While rinsing the first cup and adding hot water, she discreetly let a small pill drop into the stream.
She completed the task carefully and let out a quiet breath of relief, unaware that Fu Suihe had seen everything from beginning to end.
Zhao Mumu purposely slowed her steps. She waited until five minutes past the agreed time before opening the door to the private room.
Inside, it was quiet. A woman sat alone, gently touching the petals of a flower in the vase.
Even when she was by herself, Ji Yanwan sat straight and poised. Her every movement was graceful.
Hearing the door open, Ji Yanwan turned her head and hands at the same time, standing up politely.
Zhao Mumu smiled as she closed the door behind her and joked, “Why so formal?”
Ji Yanwan returned her smile with elegance. “You saved my life. I can’t be rude to you.”
As Zhao Mumu approached, Ji Yanwan had already pulled out a chair for her.
Sitting down with a laugh, Zhao Mumu said, “I don’t think I’m the one who really saved you. Hu Luobei was the one who pulled you out of the water. I just took over afterward.”
“Hu Luobei?” Ji Yanwan asked as she returned to her seat. “Is she the one playing Zhao Zhao?”
Zhao Mumu nodded. “That’s her. She got you out. I only helped afterward.”
Ji Yanwan searched her memory. She had just worked with the girl earlier today. Small and quiet, she left a gentle impression. The kind of girl who seemed easily frightened and rarely spoke.
It was hard to picture someone like that diving into the water to pull her out. The image surprised her.
Noticing the look on her face, Zhao Mumu asked quietly, “Should I not have come tonight?”
“What?” Ji Yanwan snapped out of her thoughts. Realizing her rudeness, she quickly explained, “Of course not. You helped me too. Why wouldn’t I want you here?”
But her polite and distant smile made Zhao Mumu’s heart ache a little.
The Ji Yanwan she remembered had always been warm. Seeing her now so reserved and formal was hard to accept.
Zhao Mumu pressed down the emotions rising in her chest and forced a smile. “She didn’t mind you coming to see me?”
Her eyes drifted to Ji Yanwan’s neck. She had changed into a dark green V-neck suit. The color made her skin look even more fair. Light makeup highlighted her delicate face, and her long hair was swept behind one ear, with a few strands falling forward.
Those strands happened to brush over a red mark on her chest.
A bite mark, still fresh. It looked like a private seal left behind to claim her.
Ji Yanwan followed her gaze, looked down, and gently covered it with her hand. She smiled with amusement. “Suihe is still young. She gets a little possessive sometimes.”
Zhao Mumu clenched her hands into fists on her lap, trying her best to stay composed.
“In high school, you were a little childish too,” she said with a faint smile. “Do you remember how much you hated Chinese class? Every time we had reading comprehension homework, you’d come to me looking miserable and ask for help.”
As she spoke, her eyes sparkled under the soft light.
Ji Yanwan knew exactly what she was trying to bring up. She cleared her throat lightly. “Is that so? I don’t really remember.”
The light in Zhao Mumu’s eyes faded.
Unwilling to give up, she continued. “After graduation, you invited me to go to Changbai Mountain. You said your favorite character from a novel lived there.”
“You promised to give me a gift after the college entrance exams.”
As she went on, her voice grew louder. Her body leaned forward, as if she was trying to close the space between them.
“Zhao Mumu.” Ji Yanwan finally interrupted, her voice calm and distant. “That was a long time ago. I don’t remember anymore.”
“You don’t remember…” Zhao Mumu let out a bitter laugh, her expression filled with disappointment. “So now, are you giving the promises you made to me to someone else?”
Ji Yanwan frowned slightly. “Feelings have to go both ways. You can’t expect someone you left behind to wait forever.”
“Consider tonight our make-up for that post-exam date,” she added. “Let the past stay in the past. I have Suihe now.”
A tingling sensation ran across her lower back. The system notification sounded.
Task complete.
Ji Yanwan let out a quiet breath of relief.
Zhao Mumu sat silently for a long moment. When she looked up again, her eyes were clear and dry.
She had regained her composure just as the waiter entered to serve their dishes.
The clinking of plates was the only sound in the room, but neither of them spoke.
Once all the food had been served, Zhao Mumu raised her glass. “Let me apologize for my earlier behavior.”
Ji Yanwan lifted her own glass and clinked it against hers. “It’s alright.”
Zhao Mumu took a sip of wine and said, “You’re not planning to stay in the entertainment industry forever, are you?”
Ji Yanwan was surprised by the sudden change in topic. Her chopsticks paused midair.
Then Zhao Mumu continued. “Neither am I. So, I’m looking forward to the day we meet again in the business world.”
“This month, the Zhao family is hosting a formal banquet. My father invited Director Ji. And now, I would like to extend a personal invitation to you.”
Ji Yanwan opened her mouth, ready to respond, but then Zhao Mumu said—
“Since we won’t talk about the past,” Zhao Mumu said softly, “then let’s meet again in the future.”
“You’re a rabbit?”
Fu Suihe looked down at the figure crouched at her feet. Under the moonlight, those crimson-red eyes were especially striking.
Recognized for what she truly was, Hu Luobei clenched her teeth and glared up at her.
Fu Suihe raised an eyebrow and crouched down so they were face to face.
“Just transformed, huh, little rabbit?” Fu Suihe let out a cold laugh. “Your cultivation is still too weak.”
The pill Hu Luobei had taken earlier was beginning to take effect. Her limbs gradually lost strength, but she gritted her teeth to stay conscious.
She could clearly sense that Fu Suihe wasn’t human either, but no matter how hard she looked, she couldn’t detect even a trace of animal traits in her.
When she first learned that animals could take on human form, her mother had told her that no matter how complete the transformation, an animal’s nature always remained.
That was why she had recognized those gray eyes on set.
In the animal world, the law was survival of the fittest.
Although Hu Luobei had only just become human this year, growing up in the wild had made her incredibly alert. She had always been especially good at identifying others who had also transformed—or worse, spotting predators.
And wolves were one of her natural enemies, a species she had studied closely.
But in Ji Yanwan’s eyes, aside from the color of a wolf’s gaze, there were no other signs.
Was her power so high it masked everything? Or was there another reason?
Hu Luobei had puzzled over this for a long time without finding an answer. Now, facing Fu Suihe, her confusion only deepened as fragments of memory returned.
Seeing the girl’s gaze grow dazed, Fu Suihe almost wanted to laugh.
This rabbit had only just formed her human shape, clearly lacking experience, yet she dared try something like this on her.
Fu Suihe reached out and lifted her chin, her lips curled into a smile.
Her face was undoubtedly beautiful, and so was her smile—but under the cold silver light of the moon, that smile looked dangerously cruel.
Hu Luobei shivered.
The next moment, she saw Fu Suihe’s lips move.
Her voice was colder than her smile.
“Do you know what I am?”
The rabbit on the ground froze. Her pupils dilated sharply, and almost at the same moment, Hu Luobei reverted to her true form.
She panicked.
As soon as she saw her natural enemy, she turned and tried to flee.
But Fu Suihe didn’t give her the chance.
Beneath the moonlight, a long, fluffy tail swayed gently through the air.
The black in her eyes faded, replaced by a glowing red. The woman who had just been crouching and smiling was gone.
In her place stood a fox.
Her fur was snow white, glowing under the moon. Two pointed ears stood alert, listening to every sound in the stillness. Her pale red eyes gleamed with excitement at the sight of the rabbit.
The silvery tail, once swaying lazily, snapped forward and wrapped tightly around the rabbit’s waist.
Hu Luobei had barely taken two steps before she was yanked back. Her long ears stood straight up from fear, and her short limbs flailed helplessly.
The tail looked soft and fluffy, but it was swift and precise, coiling like a serpent.
As it tightened, it slowly began to squeeze the breath from the rabbit.
Fu Suihe dragged her prey slowly across the stone path.
Wrapped in the fox’s tail, the rabbit trembled violently.
Just as she was about to faint from terror, the tail loosened, and in a flash, Fu Suihe shifted back into human form.
The stunned rabbit dropped from the loosened tail and thudded onto the ground. Her limbs kicked reflexively against the stone.
Fu Suihe couldn’t help but laugh softly. She reached down and gently picked the rabbit up.
Moonlight spilled over her shoulders. The night was still and silent, as if nothing had ever happened.
Fu Suihe looked down at the trembling rabbit in her arms and figured she must have been frightened half to death.
Her fingers brushed over the rabbit’s small head as she whispered, “Little rabbit, maybe you should spend more time learning from your big sister.”
Then she turned and walked away, the moonlight shattering beneath her steps and then coming together again behind her.
The rabbit in her arms had already passed out from fear.
