The Black Lotus Omega Always Wraps His Tail Around Me - Chapter 39
After finishing the wine in her hand, Ji Yanwan already felt a little tipsy.
About half an hour ago, she had wandered off on her own, climbed up to the rooftop to clear her mind, and was eventually found by Bai Li.
It had been nearly two hours since Fu Suihe had gone out.
Ji Yanwan turned on her phone. The screen was clean, with no message notifications at all.
That made her feel unexpectedly disappointed.
After finishing the wine with her, Bai Li realized something was off. The anonymous person she had been monitoring had made another move.
This time, they had sent flowers again, delivered to the Cheng family.
Without showing any emotion, Bai Li quietly turned off the screen. She suddenly stood up and said, “I was driving all night. I need to get some rest.”
Ji Yanwan looked at the dark circles under her eyes and nodded.
“Don’t go wandering around alone before I wake up,” Bai Li reminded her, clearly worried.
Ji Yanwan nodded obediently and watched her leave.
As the sun slowly set and the edges of the sky began to turn a dusky blue-gray, Ji Yanwan finally stood up and left.
Her phone still showed no messages from Fu Suihe.
Her mood grew worse, just like the sky that was darkening outside.
Feeling a little helpless, Ji Yanwan wandered aimlessly through the alley. The lights in their room still hadn’t been turned on.
“Wanwan!” A window from one of the rooms suddenly opened. Someone leaned out and called to her with delight, “Have you had dinner yet?”
Zhao Mumu leaned on the windowsill and waved at her.
Seeing her bright smile, Ji Yanwan shook her head.
“Then come on up. How about hot pot tonight?” Zhao Mumu raised the hot pot soup base in her hand.
Thinking of the promise she had made to Fu Suihe earlier that day, Ji Yanwan instinctively shook her head and declined. “You go ahead. I’ll go back and wait for Suihe.”
Zhao Mumu’s smile faded slightly. Her eyes showed a hint of disappointment, but she still responded politely.
After exchanging a few words, Ji Yanwan disappeared once again into the deepening dusk.
Zhao Mumu closed the window, unable to hide her loneliness.
The small hot pot behind her was already bubbling, but eating alone felt a little too quiet.
Just as she was feeling a little down, there was a soft knock at the door.
Hu Luobei stood at the doorway, her face flushed as she quietly asked, “Big sister, may I eat with you?”
The shy girl stood there nervously, clutching her hands, her head lowered.
Zhao Mumu remembered she was the one who had saved Ji Yanwan and smiled warmly at her. “Of course you can.”
Hu Luobei hadn’t expected such a quick and kind response, and her cheeks turned red with surprise.
She bent down to pick up a net bag from beside her and said softly, “Big sister, I brought you a thank-you gift.”
Zhao Mumu was just about to toss a tomato into the pot when she looked toward the door. In Hu Luobei’s hands was an old-fashioned fishing net bag.
It was filled with fresh carrots, large and vibrant, with roots and bits of soil still clinging to them.
Zhao Mumu couldn’t help but laugh at the simple and sincere gift. Her mood lightened a little as well.
Back at home alone, Ji Yanwan felt a heavy pressure in her chest.
Fu Suihe hadn’t come back since going out that afternoon.
Ji Yanwan didn’t even bother turning on the light after returning to her room. She lay down at the desk, absentmindedly playing with the tassels hanging from the lamp.
She didn’t know how long she stayed like that, but sleep slowly began to take over.
Even as she drifted off, Fu Suihe still hadn’t come back.
When the sky outside was completely dark, someone quietly turned the lock on the door.
Fu Suihe stepped inside and frowned at the pitch-black room. But as soon as she looked more carefully, she saw someone asleep at the desk.
A wave of guilt rose in her heart.
She sighed softly and carefully made her way through the dark. First, she gently closed the window. Then she found a shawl and placed it over Ji Yanwan’s shoulders.
Her movements were already very quiet, but they still woke the sleeping girl.
Ji Yanwan rubbed her eyes and softly called out, “Suihe?”
“I’m here.” Fu Suihe wrapped her arms around her from behind and kissed her on the neck. “I’m right here.”
The warm embrace made Ji Yanwan feel a little more at ease. She had been sitting too long, and the night wind had made her feel freezing cold. But she hadn’t bothered to get up and close the window.
Now that the warmth behind her had returned, she felt completely surrounded.
Fu Suihe leaned against her neck and whispered, “I’m sorry, jie-jie.”
Jie-jie. Older sister.
Those two words hit Ji Yanwan like a jolt of electricity.
Before and after arriving in this world, she had always been older than Fu Suihe, but Suihe had never called her that before.
With a hoarse voice, Ji Yanwan asked, “What did you just call me?”
“Jie-jie,” Fu Suihe said softly. “I don’t want to call you Wanwan or Awan anymore. Zhao Mumu already calls you those, and I don’t want to be the same as her.”
Listening to her slightly childish tone, Ji Yanwan couldn’t help but smile.
Fu Suihe stayed behind her, not moving. “Jie-jie, I’m sorry. I just found out you fell into the water last night. It was all my fault.”
“From now on, I won’t let you drink so much again. I won’t let you walk alone at night anymore.”
“I’ll be your acting coach from now on too. Please forgive me, alright?”
“Jie-jie.”
This time, the words were whispered right beside Ji Yanwan’s ear. Her voice was low and raspy, and the warm breath brushed against her skin.
Ji Yanwan trembled slightly from the ticklish sensation.
In the next moment, her earlobe was gently kissed.
The hands that had been wrapped around her began to move, no longer behaving themselves.
Ji Yanwan never turned on the light. The faint scent of freesia filled the room. Moonlight spilled in softly through the window.
The figures on the bed shifted and moved like a small boat drifting on a lake.
As the wind and waves surged, the little boat rocked and swayed with the current.
When the moon had made its way halfway across the sky, the movement on the lake finally came to a stop.
Fu Suihe lifted her head, kissed Ji Yanwan lightly under the chin, and asked in a quiet voice, “Jie-jie, are you hungry?”
Her voice was slightly hoarse, softened by a hint of coyness, making her entire presence feel gentle and delicate.
Ji Yanwan lowered her head and kissed the top of the girl in her arms. “A little. Did you eat dinner?”
Fu Suihe shook her head. “No, because I wanted to eat with you.”
Ji Yanwan felt a tug in her heart. Her voice softened as she asked, “What do you feel like eating? I’ll make it for you.”
As she spoke, she lifted the blanket and sat up, switching on the bedside lamp.
The table she had been lying on earlier was now covered with food bags, almost all from her favorite takeout places.
Ji Yanwan looked down in surprise, meeting Fu Suihe’s wide, sparkling fox-like eyes.
There was still emotion and desire lingering in those eyes. Tears had not yet fully dried, making her look pitiful and endearing.
“Do you like it?” Fu Suihe smiled softly. “I went to a lot of places to get all of your favorites.”
Ji Yanwan’s heart melted. She leaned in and kissed her on the lips. “I love it.”
Fu Suihe tilted her face up and smiled playfully. “Then will you forgive me, jie-jie?”
All the frustration from before had long disappeared. Ji Yanwan gently said, “I forgive you.”
The next day, filming officially started around five in the morning.
A new character was introduced in today’s scene.
Hu Luobei was playing Zhao Zhao, a girl hopelessly in love with Lu Ming.
Zhao Zhao and Lu Ming grew up together, and she had secretly loved him for years.
In this scene, Zhao Zhao visits Lu Ming, who is stuck in a creative rut and smokes alone on the rooftop.
The set had already been prepared the day before. This particular shot required Ji Yanwan to climb up to the roof.
The props team began early to set up the safety measures for her. Fu Suihe stayed close to the crew, anxiously circling them to make sure every detail was handled properly.
The rooftop wasn’t very high, but actor safety was the top priority. The staff double-checked everything before giving the go-ahead.
Compared to the care given to Ji Yanwan, Hu Luobei received much less attention.
In this industry, everything came down to status and connections. As a newcomer without either, Hu Luobei only got a basic check.
The last buckle on her harness dug into her uncomfortably, but she didn’t dare speak up. She tried to adjust it on her own.
Suddenly, a pair of hands reached over, loosening the buckle and securing it again more gently.
Zhao Mumu adjusted the harness for her, then checked the foam knee pads to make sure they were secure.
After finishing the inspection, she smiled and said, “Don’t be afraid. I’ve checked everything for you.”
Zhao Mumu loved wearing light, flowing clothes. She was already slender, so even regular-sized outfits looked a bit oversized on her.
Her long hair was pinned up with a dark wooden hairpin, and the smooth silk fabric she wore made her look like a graceful painting come to life.
Elegant and serene.
Her fingertips were cool, and the brush of her hand along Hu Luobei’s arm made the girl shiver slightly.
Hu Luobei looked up at her, her cheeks quietly turning pink.
Zhao Mumu laughed gently and patted her head. “Be good. Do your best in the scene.”
The director waved a small flag and shouted into a megaphone for everyone to get into position.
After endless reminders from Fu Suihe, Ji Yanwan was carefully guided up to the rooftop by the props team.
The sun hadn’t risen yet. The director was rushing to capture the lighting just before dawn and was loudly calling out instructions.
The scene itself wasn’t difficult. Once in character, Hu Luobei was noticeably braver than she was in real life.
Even so, she still couldn’t bring herself to look Ji Yanwan directly in the eyes.
But that kind of timidness fit perfectly with Zhao Zhao’s unspoken affection for Lu Ming.
The scene went very smoothly. Director Chen Fei grew more and more impressed with Ji Yanwan and began praising her more loudly.
Since the rhythm felt right and the atmosphere was good, he kept rolling through one take after another.
By the time they broke for a mid-session break, he had already captured several satisfying shots.
The next scene featured Fu He receiving a mission from the gang, and it was a solo shot for Fu Suihe.
When Ji Yanwan came off set, Fu Suihe was in the makeup area for a touch-up.
Now free from the tight safety harness, Ji Yanwan finally let out a deep breath of relief. But just as she relaxed, a chime rang in her mind.
The system was back online.
[Reminder: Your task is about to expire. Please complete it before tonight.]
A numb tingling sensation shot through her lower back. When the current faded, Ji Yanwan’s expression had turned stiff and uncomfortable.
Zhao Mumu, who was standing nearby, noticed and asked with concern, “Are you alright?”
Ji Yanwan shook her head. “I’m fine. Actually, I wanted to ask if you’re free tonight.”
As she spoke, she glanced around cautiously. Their scene had just wrapped, and they were now in the rest period.
Fu Suihe was still getting her makeup done a bit farther away on set.
Zhao Mumu looked a little surprised but pleased. “I’m free. Why?”
“Then let’s have dinner together tonight,” Ji Yanwan said quickly. “Just the two of us.”
Her voice was very quiet, but the words were still clear enough for those nearby to hear.
Fu Suihe, who had been standing with her back to them, furrowed her brow.
Her hand clenched unconsciously. The script in her hand was crushed into a tight, wrinkled ball.
A Bu noticed and quickly tugged at her arm to retrieve and smooth out the script.
Fu Suihe’s expression darkened immediately.
Meanwhile, in another corner, Hu Luobei sat squatting and poking at the ground.
She hadn’t meant to overhear, but her ears were naturally sensitive.
Then she heard Zhao Mumu’s cheerful reply.
Hu Luobei kept poking at the dirt, lowering her head even further to hide the sadness in her eyes.
