The Black Lotus Omega Always Wraps His Tail Around Me - Chapter 26.1
“What’s wrong?”
Water had splashed onto Fu Suihe’s arm. She looked up at Ji Yanwan.
The black gown Ji Yanwan wore was elegant and imposing. It made her already sharp features look even more striking. Her defined nose, cool gray eyes, and tightly pressed lips gave her an intimidating air when she wasn’t smiling.
Just like now.
Fu Suihe tried to read something from her expression, to analyze what Ji Yanwan might be thinking. But there was nothing to see, until the next second when a flicker of emotion appeared in Ji Yanwan’s eyes.
A flash of hesitation.
And maybe a trace of pity.
Fu Suihe could not quite grasp what was going on in her heart. Just as she wanted to ask again, Ji Yanwan lowered her eyelids, hiding all emotion.
“It’s nothing. Have some water,” Ji Yanwan said.
The two of them sat in silence. Fu Suihe didn’t reach for the bottle. Instead, she stared directly at Ji Yanwan, trying once more to find a clue in her face.
But Ji Yanwan’s expression was unreadable. The struggle and tenderness from moments ago vanished like an illusion, as if Fu Suihe had imagined it all.
An invisible barrier seemed to settle between them, creating an unspoken coldness.
Fu Suihe bit her lip and swallowed her thoughts.
She had always believed that getting Ji Yanwan to fall for her would not be difficult. For an experienced Alpha who had been through many emotional entanglements, it should have been easy to respond to an Omega’s advances.
But after spending so much time with her, Fu Suihe felt like she was wandering a maze. Every time she made a move, Ji Yanwan responded with warmth. But at the final step, she would always stop.
She would always pull away.
Fu Suihe was growing frustrated. Simple seduction was no longer working. Ji Yanwan was determined not to mark her before marriage. That left her with no choice but to find another way.
As she rested her chin on her hand, her mind raced in circles. She failed to notice that Ji Yanwan, sitting next to her, had one hand clenched inside her pocket and was trembling slightly.
It felt like Ji Yanwan was being torn apart from the inside.
Her thoughts were a mess, and not only because she didn’t want to complete the mission.
What troubled her most was the fact that, after hearing the task, her first thought was not how to get around it but how to reduce the hurt it would cause Fu Suihe.
Fu Suihe now had no one else.
She could not return to the Fu family. Her career was gone.
If Ji Yanwan really abandoned her at the engagement ceremony, what would become of her?
Suddenly, a tingling sensation spread across her lower back. A weak electric current buzzed beneath her skin. It was a warning from the system.
The sting brought Ji Yanwan back to reality. A decision had to be made.
“Let’s go home.”
Ji Yanwan stood up abruptly. Her gaze was distant, her voice calm.
“Alright.”
Fu Suihe’s answer was soft. There was a tiredness in her voice that she could no longer hide.
But Ji Yanwan waited, and there was no movement beside her. She looked down in concern.
Fu Suihe looked up at her with eyes that had lost their light, cautious and dim.
“What’s wrong?”
Fu Suihe shook her head. Her teeth gently bit at the corner of her lip. Her expression showed she was struggling to hold something in.
Before Ji Yanwan could ask again, Fu Suihe began to push herself up from the seat. Her movements were slow and awkward. She had not fully straightened when her body swayed, nearly collapsing.
Ji Yanwan reacted instantly, reaching out to catch her and pulling her into a firm embrace.
Now they were very close. Ji Yanwan could see the trembling of Fu Suihe’s eyelashes, the pale color of her skin, and the bloodless shade of her lips.
“I’m sorry.”
Fu Suihe tried to pull away from Ji Yanwan’s arms, but her legs had gone numb from sitting too long. Combined with low blood sugar, her strength had left her.
She struggled slightly, but her resistance only made Ji Yanwan hold her tighter.
Noticing her difficulty, Ji Yanwan picked her up in her arms and asked softly, “If you don’t mind, may I carry you out?”
The question was polite, but her arms never loosened their grip.
Fu Suihe gave a faint reply and buried her face in Ji Yanwan’s shoulder.
Neither of them spoke on the way to the car.
Once inside, Ji Yanwan looked down at her chest, now damp. Her expression was complex.
Fu Suihe had cried. Her eyes were red, her face still pale. That redness at the corners of her eyes stood out even more because of how lifeless the rest of her face looked.
Ji Yanwan felt lost. She knew she had crossed a line, but when she saw Fu Suihe like that, so small and fragile, it reminded her of the little dog she once had.
That same cautious dependence.
She had been forced to give up that dog because it was said to be a distraction from her studies.
Now, guilt and self-blame washed over Ji Yanwan. She regretted it all. Maybe she had made promises to Fu Suihe too soon. If she had waited, perhaps it would hurt less when the time came to walk away.
“Do you hate me?”
The sudden question caught Ji Yanwan completely off guard.
She looked at Fu Suihe’s lowered head. There was a tremble in her voice that sounded like she was on the verge of tears.
Ji Yanwan’s heart skipped a beat.
“It’s alright. No one has ever really liked me anyway.” Fu Suihe’s tone was quiet and distant. “They all think I bring misfortune. My parents and sisters all died in that accident. Maybe I shouldn’t have survived either.”
The car fell into complete silence.
The driver had sensed something was wrong earlier and had already stepped out. Now, only the two of them remained inside.
Fu Suihe’s voice was so soft. She curled up near the door, and her hands, resting on her knees, were trembling slightly.
“I know the engagement wasn’t your choice. If you want to back out, you can terminate the agreement.”
Fu Suihe sniffled and sighed. “Either way, if you send me back to the Fu family, my uncle will just hand me over to someone else.”
Handed over, like a product passed from one buyer to the next.
Ji Yanwan hesitated. Did Fu Suihe also know about the mission?
“I’m sorry. It’s just… you’ve been gone for days.” Fu Suihe lowered her head, trying hard to suppress her sadness. “It must be because of me. That’s why you had to stay at someone else’s place. I’ll move out.”
So she was talking about Ji Yanwan not coming home. Ji Yanwan realized what she meant and let out a small sigh of relief.
“It’s not that.”
Worried Fu Suihe wouldn’t believe her, she gently explained, “I didn’t stay away because I was avoiding you.”
Fu Suihe looked up and asked, “Then why?”
Her eyes were still rimmed with tears, the trails of dried tears framing her gaze like a delicate ribbon of starlight.
Ji Yanwan let out a long breath and explained patiently, “Because I was afraid I couldn’t control myself. Last time in the store, I almost…”
“You’re kind. Really. You’re beautiful and gentle. So you shouldn’t have died in that accident. You should live a better life.”
Fu Suihe understood exactly what “couldn’t control myself” meant. She bit her lip and stared quietly at Ji Yanwan’s face.
Their eyes met, and everything fell into silence once more.
“Then tell me you don’t hate me.” Fu Suihe’s voice was soft, like a child asking for candy. “If you say it, I’ll believe you.”
Ji Yanwan nodded. “I don’t hate you.”
That small affirmation made Fu Suihe smile. The sadness in her eyes vanished in an instant, and joy bloomed across her face like a flower, brightening the dark interior of the car.
“Will you come home now?” she asked quietly.
“Of course,” Ji Yanwan said. “Aren’t we already on the way?”
—
Morning came bright and clear. It was a beautiful day.
Ji Yanwan slept in and only woke up naturally. She stretched and yawned before sitting up in bed.
After washing up, she noticed Fu Suihe’s bedroom door was open. The room inside was empty.
Any lingering drowsiness vanished at once. Ji Yanwan remembered the tears Fu Suihe shed in the car last night, and a tightness clenched at her chest.
From the dining room downstairs came the scent of food. Fu Suihe was dressed in loose loungewear, her black hair tied up. She moved gracefully and skillfully around the kitchen.
Dish after dish appeared under her hands. She brought them to the table, then glanced toward the elevator. Seeing it still inactive, she quickly sprinkled something into each dish.
It was colorless and odorless. It dissolved completely into the food.
After finishing her work, Fu Suihe removed her apron and stretched with satisfaction.
A mechanical voice echoed through the house. “Unlocking successful. Welcome home.”
The elevator remained still, but the front door clicked open.
Fu Suihe sat up straight, alert and watchful.
The woman who walked in wore a long black coat that revealed her pale ankles. Her delicate face showed no emotion, not even when she spotted Fu Suihe.
Fu Suihe watched the woman calmly and quietly slipped the packet of powder into her pocket.
The woman didn’t glance at her. Her gaze was fixed on the elevator.
The doors opened.
Ji Yanwan rushed out, still slightly anxious. When she saw Fu Suihe in an apron, her tense heart relaxed. But before she could settle, her eyes landed on the unfamiliar woman by the door. She froze.
Sensing her confusion, the woman introduced herself. “Good morning, Third Miss. My name is Bai Li. I’m Second Miss’s personal assistant. Starting today, I will be staying here and handling everything related to you.”
After introducing herself, Bai Li pulled her suitcase through the door. “May I ask which room is yours, Third Miss? I’ll be staying next to you.”
Ji Yanwan blinked in surprise, not quite catching up.
Then the person who had been ignored all this time spoke softly. “Sorry, miss. I’ve already moved into the room next to hers.”
Bai Li turned and gave her a cold look.
Fu Suihe met her gaze with a gentle smile, full of elegance and poise, exuding the aura of a proper lady of the house.
Bai Li looked away first and turned back to Ji Yanwan, waiting for her response.
Both women’s eyes were now on her.
Ji Yanwan thought to herself, Is it too late to go back upstairs now?
Clearly, it was too late. She swallowed hard and gave an awkward smile. “My second sister’s room is on the second floor. Maybe you could stay in the room next to hers?”
Fu Suihe kept smiling, her expression unchanged.
