The Black Lotus Omega Always Wraps His Tail Around Me - Chapter 26.2
Bai Li shook her head. “Aren’t there any available rooms closer to the Third Miss?”
Ji Yanwan nodded. “There are, but they’re not as comfortable as the ones upstairs.”
“That’s fine,” Bai Li replied, lifting her suitcase as she stepped inside. “As long as I’m close to the Third Miss. It’s easier to protect her.”
Protect? Ji Yanwan was a little puzzled, but since Bai Li had been sent by her sister, she couldn’t say much. She nodded and thanked her politely. “Alright. Once you’ve settled in, come downstairs for breakfast. I think I smell something delicious.”
At the dining table, a faint clink was heard. Chopsticks touched the rim of a bowl. Fu Suihe spoke softly, “The food has gotten a bit cold. I’ll go reheat it.”
“No need.” Bai Li gave her a brief glance and said calmly, “My main duty is to manage the engagement ceremony. Please get ready. We’ll be leaving soon.”
Ji Yanwan blinked. “We’re not eating? The food is already prepared.”
Her gaze fell on the table. The dishes looked delicious and carefully made.
“We’ve already made a reservation. You’ll be tasting the official menu later.” Bai Li’s voice was flat. “As for Miss Fu’s cooking, the two of you will have plenty of time for that after marriage.”
Ji Yanwan hesitated. “But Suihe already…”
Fu Suihe’s hand tightened slightly around her chopsticks. Her face remained calm, but her eyes flashed with a sharp glint before she quickly suppressed it.
“Bai Li is right.” Fu Suihe interrupted her gently. “Awan, let’s go get changed. After we’re married, I’ll cook for you every day.”
Bai Li ignored her completely and headed to the elevator with her suitcase.
The three of them stood inside together. The atmosphere became instantly cold and heavy.
There was a faint sense of tension in the air.
—
The Ji family was, after all, the head of the four great houses. Even the hotel they had reserved for the engagement ceremony was more extravagant than the Cheng family’s.
They had booked the entire building. It was a show of wealth and dominance.
Ji Yanwan walked beside Bai Li, while Fu Suihe followed behind carefully, holding the edge of Ji Yanwan’s sleeve.
Bai Li walked quickly, showing no intention of waiting for Fu Suihe.
Ji Yanwan had only received a brief introduction about Bai Li.
In theory, Bai Li was her second sister’s assistant and had never met Fu Suihe before. Yet Ji Yanwan could sense a strong hostility from Bai Li toward Fu Suihe.
So she slowed her pace and reached back to take Fu Suihe’s hand.
Their fingers intertwined, and their steps gradually aligned.
Bai Li gave Fu Suihe a quick glance, then looked away, smirking quietly to herself.
The two now walked side by side, hands held. Ji Yanwan felt as though she was holding a ball of fire in her palm. Curious, she glanced down and noticed several fine cuts on Fu Suihe’s fingertips.
There were many small wounds. None were deep, but the skin around them had become wrinkled and pale from repeated soaking in water.
Ji Yanwan thought of the full table of food and sighed softly.
“I’m sorry. I’ll eat all of it when we get home tonight.”
Fu Suihe looked up at her apology and smiled brightly. “Alright.”
Her smile was dazzling, and it left Ji Yanwan a little flustered.
Especially those bright, almond-shaped eyes, full of charm and something unexplainable.
Ji Yanwan couldn’t look at them for too long. Her ears began to flush, and she quickly looked away in embarrassment.
What she didn’t notice was that as soon as she looked away, the vibrant smile disappeared.
Fu Suihe’s lips returned to a neutral line. She stared at Ji Yanwan’s flushed ears and smirked coldly.
When she looked up again, her gaze met Bai Li’s.
In an instant, Fu Suihe smiled once more and tilted her head playfully.
Bai Li’s eyes scanned her from head to toe before shifting away.
She was starting to understand why Second Miss had specifically assigned her to this household.
Ji Yanwan was still trying to calm her thoughts. She couldn’t be sure if it was just her imagination, but she thought she saw a hint of real emotion in Fu Suihe’s eyes.
Getting up early to cook, hurting her hands, and still responding gently to Bai Li’s rudeness. Could it be that Fu Suihe actually liked her?
The thought barely surfaced before Ji Yanwan pushed it down. It was impossible.
She already had enough trouble figuring out how to get through Mission Five. She couldn’t afford to let Fu Suihe become more emotionally invested.
She had to minimize the damage as much as possible.
The engagement venue was already being decorated. Everything was grand and elaborate, with fresh flowers arranged from the entrance all the way inside.
Ji Yanwan looked at one section already completed. Countless roses had been bundled into large spheres and suspended from the ceiling.
“Is all this really necessary?” she asked, scanning the area. There didn’t seem to be any cameras around.
Bai Li replied, “Chairman Ji has always doted on you. This is a big day for you. Of course it must be extravagant.”
“We’ll also need you to take Miss Fu shopping for outfits and newlywed items. Everything must be completed by Friday.”
Ji Yanwan frowned. It was already Thursday. She groaned inwardly at the hassle.
“But you don’t need to worry about the details,” Bai Li added calmly. “The chairman will handle all the arrangements.”
Ji Yanwan sighed. Truly, a model sister.
Fu Suihe remained silent the entire time, showing no reaction to the grandeur of the upcoming engagement. She seemed completely detached from it all.
She looked down at the hand holding hers. Ji Yanwan had politely taken hold of her wrist, not her palm.
Perhaps she was trying to avoid touching the cuts, or maybe it was simply good manners.
Fu Suihe raised her head and stared at Ji Yanwan’s back. A flicker of darkness crossed her eyes. This woman, sent by her sister, was not to be underestimated.
Suddenly, a strange scent drifted into the air. Fu Suihe’s knees buckled slightly as she struggled to stay upright.
She looked up and realized that at some point, the decorators had suspended one of the large flower balls directly above them.
Her eyes immediately locked onto a ring of soft, white flowers tucked within it.
Foxtail grass.
Her gaze became unfocused. Her legs gave way.
Ji Yanwan reacted first. The moment she raised her hand, Fu Suihe collapsed into her arms.
“What’s wrong?” Ji Yanwan looked at her. Fu Suihe’s face had turned ghostly pale in an instant.
That faint, indistinct scent clung to her like a curse, tightening around her. Fu Suihe clutched her head, clearly in visible pain.
Bai Li noticed something was wrong. She looked up and immediately spotted the culprit. The flower ball above wasn’t just made of roses. It included decorative flowers.
And one of them was the exact source of Fu Suihe’s fear.
Bai Li’s voice was calm, almost indifferent. “Miss Fu, are you allergic to pollen? There’s nothing about that in your file.”
Fu Suihe shook her head, her face still pale. She pointed at the flower ball, unable to speak.
Ji Yanwan quickly took off her coat and wrapped it around Fu Suihe’s head to create a barrier from the scent.
She turned to a nearby attendant. “Excuse me, can you tell me what types of flowers were used in that arrangement?”
The attendant looked confused but replied, “The main flower is red rose, accompanied by eucalyptus, starflower, dusty miller, and foxtail grass.”
“Foxtail grass?” Ji Yanwan had heard of the others, but this one was new to her.
“Yes, that one.” The attendant pointed to the white, fluffy fringe around the flower ball. “It has soft, fine hairs all over and is completely white. Because it resembles a fox’s tail, it’s called foxtail grass.”
Bai Li asked, “Does this flower pose any harm to humans? Any known allergies?”
“Of course not,” the attendant answered quickly. “Foxtail grass has no scent and is sometimes even used in traditional medicine. It’s mainly decorative, and many clients praise it for its beauty.”
Wrapped in Ji Yanwan’s coat, Fu Suihe struggled to breathe. Her skin tingled and itched, and her head felt dizzy. From the top of her scalp, a pair of sharp ears had started to emerge.
The attendant added with a chuckle, “Well, if it affects anything, I guess it might bother foxes? Just a guess, since it’s named after them.”
He laughed lightly, trying to ease the tension.
But Ji Yanwan did not laugh. She looked at the flower balls hanging above and the pile of unused foxtail grass on the floor.
Holding Fu Suihe tightly, she said politely, “My partner is sensitive to the scent of foxtail grass. It seems she’s having an allergic reaction. Could you replace the filler flowers with something else?”
“Of course,” the attendant agreed without hesitation. “You’re such a thoughtful and generous Alpha. Your wife is truly lucky.”
That so-called lucky wife was now bundled in Ji Yanwan’s coat, trying desperately to hide her ears.
Foxtail grass might be harmless to humans. It was nothing more than a pretty decorative plant.
But for a fox, it was something else entirely.
Even without touching it, just the scent of foxtail grass was unbearable. For foxes, it was addictive. One whiff was enough to trigger heat.
In the instincts of a fox, foxtail grass was typically associated with mating and reproduction.
Fu Suihe clenched her wrist where her sharp teeth had left a mark, pressing the wound hard into her palm until the sting pierced her skin. Only then did her trembling fox ears finally withdraw into her scalp.
The coat wrapped around her had blocked the scent somewhat, and she began to regain a little clarity. But the intense discomfort spreading through her body told her this was far from over.
So when Ji Yanwan brought her into the resting room and lifted the coat from her face, what she saw was a pair of watery eyes and flushed cheeks.
Fu Suihe was already burning with an unnatural fever, the heat flooding her face and ears, turning her complexion red as fire.
A faint scent of blue cypress had already begun to seep through the scent-blocking patch. Ji Yanwan instinctively took a step back from the overwhelming aroma.
Standing beside them, Bai Li immediately locked the door and concluded calmly, “She’s gone into heat.”
Omega heat cycles followed a general rhythm. Some lasted as short as three days, others up to a week. The symptoms varied from person to person. For some, an inhibitor injection could stabilize them. For others, the fever and pain would persist, unbearable unless a complete mark was made.
Fu Suihe was clearly the latter. Even after the injection, her high fever remained.
She felt as though she were trapped in a furnace, her body constantly burning.
All the moisture had been drained from her, and when she looked up at the Alpha in front of her, her gaze was filled with desperate longing.
Bai Li, being an Alpha herself, had already injected a suppressant the moment she sensed Fu Suihe’s pheromones. Still, she was slightly affected.
Taking the circumstances into account, Bai Li stepped out to make a call.
Ji Yanwan was just about to follow when she felt a pair of arms wrap tightly around her neck.
The intense scent of blue cypress hit her at close range, along with a searing body pressed against her back. The warm breath at her ear made her flinch.
