The Beautiful Wife I Picked Up Is A Little Mute - Chapter 36
Chapter 36: I Don’t Believe You
Amidst hours of suffocating silence, the unknown destination and unpredictable ending created a formless pressure. This psychological weight was far more chilling than any verbal threat.
Watching the familiar streetscapes fade through the car window, Xie Mo knew they had long since driven out of City A. Tang Yingrui had just finished a grueling night shift and had barely closed his eyes during the day. Despite the high-pressure environment, Tang Yingrui finally succumbed to exhaustion. Only by feeling the warmth radiating from Xie Mo beside him could he maintain a tether to consciousness.
After an unknown amount of time, Xie Mo felt a weight on his shoulder—Tang Yingrui had finally fallen into a deep sleep. Xie Mo remained motionless, acting as the Alpha’s support.
Eventually, the stifling silence was broken by a ringtone. A cold, female voice came through: “Did you find him?”
The Alphas in the car instantly straightened their backs, their voices tinged with obvious fear. “He’s in the car. It’s the man from the photo.”
A contemptuous chuckle came from the receiver. The woman’s voice was nonchalant: “My dear younger brother will be thrilled to see him.”
Someone spoke up cautiously, “Eldest Miss, when we found Tang Yingrui, he had an Omega with him, so we brought him along as well.”
The woman’s voice remained detached, as if she were in total control. She said casually, “Why kidnap someone irrelevant? That Alpha is enough.”
Hearing this, Xie Mo immediately had a bad premonition. Sure enough, the man explained further, “The relationship between the two looks unusual. Keeping him might be useful.”
The woman seemed to lose her patience, her voice turning sharp and cold: “What does that have to do with me? Can that Omega help me?”
Everyone in the car sat on pins and needles, instantly understanding her meaning.
After exiting the highway, they arrived in City Z. After driving for a considerable distance, the car suddenly screeched to a halt. Before Xie Mo could react, he was roughly dragged out and dumped at a dim street corner.
He instinctively grabbed the man’s arm, shaking his head and struggling desperately. Tang Yingrui was still in the car; he couldn’t just leave like this.
“Let go!” the man growled impatiently. He flung Xie Mo’s hand away with a violent jerk and kicked him hard in the waist.
A sharp pain surged through his body like an electric current. Xie Mo tumbled across the ground, rolling several times. His head struck a cold concrete wall, and the metallic taste of blood immediately filled his mouth. He let out a silent whimper, his body trembling as he tried to prop himself up.
The car kicked up a cloud of dust, its taillights growing smaller and smaller on the road until they finally vanished. Bitterness welled up in his heart, and a cold wetness stained his cheeks. Xie Mo sniffed distractedly and reached back to touch his head. When he pulled his hand away, his soft white palm was covered in a shocking, brilliant red.
His legs felt so weak they could barely support him. Survival instinct forced him to stumble forward a few steps until dense black spots began to flicker before his eyes. His thin, fragile frame swayed before he collapsed heavily to the ground, sinking into total darkness.
Xie Mo thought he must be dying because he was bleeding so much. He had never seen so much blood.
…
“There’s an unconscious Omega by the roadside. I have to take him to the hospital, so I might be a bit late.”
“You’re always so soft-hearted toward Omegas,” the voice on the other end said with a hint of jealousy.
“He’s injured and losing a lot of blood,” the man insisted, his eyes fixed on the unconscious Xie Mo in the back seat.
The person on the phone sighed, their voice softening: “Which hospital? Should I come find you?”
“No need, I can handle it. You take good care of the guests.”
“But I want to see you. I haven’t seen you in hours.”
While carefully cleaning Xie Mo’s wound with a cotton swab, the man looked out the window. “Still in the car. We’re almost at City Z First Hospital.”
When Xie Mo opened his eyes, his vision was unfocused. He instinctively reached for the back of his head, but his wrist was gently caught. “The medicine was just applied, don’t touch it. We’ll be at the hospital soon to bandage it.”
Xie Mo looked at the unfamiliar face before him and immediately became wary. But the man had applied medicine to his wound, which left Xie Mo confused.
The man curled his lips into a gentle smile. “My name is Xie Shi. Don’t worry, I mean you no harm.”
…
Today was the birthday banquet for the head of the Cui family, a top-tier event in the business world. Powerful figures from all over had arrived, vying to present lavish gifts.
Ji Hanyue sat in the car, but his thoughts were entirely occupied by Nie Xi’s words. Why had Nie Xi seen Xie Mo when he hadn’t? Throughout the journey, he felt a stifling frustration and intense irritability. He even wanted to turn back to that spot and search again, but the thought that Xie Mo had actively chosen Tang Yingrui made him too angry to do so.
Ren Wen, sitting beside him, shot him a sideways glance. “You’ve had a sour face the whole way. If you want to find him, go find him. Stop forcing yourself to act tough.”
Ji Hanyue’s jaw tightened, his voice hard and cold: “I’m going back to City A as soon as the banquet is over.”
Ren Wen yawned, now fully awake and energized. “What, do you expect that little Omega to still be waiting there for you in the middle of the night?”
Ji Hanyue ruffled his hair irritably and suddenly hissed a curse under his breath: “Kou Xingyu.”
Ren Wen was baffled. What does this have to do with Kou Xingyu? But Ji Hanyue had already closed his eyes, refusing to speak further.
By the time they reached the banquet hall, the sky was completely dark. Just as Ji Hanyue stepped over the threshold, he saw Kou Xingyu rushing out. The usually composed Kou Xingyu had a rare look of anxiety frozen on his face.
Ji Hanyue’s heart skipped a beat. He grabbed the other man’s arm. “The banquet hasn’t even started. Why are you in such a hurry to leave?”
Kou Xingyu glanced at him without a word, pulled his hand away, and strode toward the garage. For some reason, Ji Hanyue had a terrible feeling. He followed as if possessed.
“Ji Hanyue?” Ren Wen and Nie Xi called out, confused.
They only heard Ji Hanyue throw back a sentence: “You guys go in first.” In the blink of an eye, his figure disappeared into the night along with Kou Xingyu.
They had arrived late, and the vast garage was filled with luxury cars, yet it was silent. Just as Kou Xingyu was about to open his car door, Ji Hanyue lunged forward and grabbed his arm again. His face was pale as he went straight to the heart of his suspicion: “Don’t tell me something happened to that Tang Yingrui.”
Kou Xingyu went silent for a moment and didn’t hide the truth. “Only Tang Yingrui is in the car. That Omega… should be safe.”
The grip on his arm suddenly tightened. Ji Hanyue grit his teeth, a name immediately jumping to mind. “Kou Xingying is back?”
Kou Xingyu did not deny it.
Ji Hanyue pressed further, “Is she using Tang Yingrui to threaten you?”
Kou Xingyu shoved him off and pulled open the driver’s side door. But Ji Hanyue was faster, bracing his foot against the door, his gaze like a blade. “Tang Yingrui was captured. Do you really fucking think Kou Xingying would let Xie Mo go?”
He knew his sister’s personality perfectly—she never harmed the innocent, even when doing something as dirty as kidnapping.
“I told you, only Tang Yingrui is in the car,” Kou Xingyu said, his voice dropping an octave.
Ji Hanyue stared at him for a long time, then nimbly opened the back door and sat inside.
“I don’t believe you.”
