The Beautiful Wife I Picked Up Is A Little Mute - chapter 35
Chapter 35: Remember Forever
This routine continued for nearly half a month. Package sorting was a job that tested one’s willpower and physical endurance.
Surprisingly, Tang Yingrui held on. He returned home at seven every morning and left promptly at seven every evening. Perhaps due to extreme exhaustion, he would fall asleep the moment he returned, only rushing to grab a bite to eat before heading out in the afternoon. Despite his usually poor temper, he had been exceptionally gentle during this time.
Seeing this, Xie Mo, who had been staying at home all day, wanted to do something to share the burden. However, Tang Yingrui adamantly forbade him from going out to collect recyclables again. Aside from that, Xie Mo couldn’t think of anything else he could do. Most jobs in society only recruited Betas and Alphas.
Without realizing it, he wandered into the city center. This was the most prosperous area of City A, with glittering shop windows and bustling crowds. Xie Mo thought that perhaps here, he could find a job suitable for himself.
However, his phone rang; it was afternoon. Tang Yingrui had likely been woken by hunger only to find the house empty.
“Why aren’t you home?” The voice from the receiver was hoarse and tense. Tang Yingrui reacted almost instantly, “Come back right this instant! I don’t need you to work, do you hear me!”
There were still many potential hidden dangers around them. Although the casino debt was paid, there was no telling if someone would snatch Xie Mo just to vent their anger. Furthermore, Kou Xingyu was temperamental. If he suddenly regretted letting Tang Yingrui go and used Xie Mo as leverage, it would be a devastating loss.
Most importantly, Tang Yingrui still harbored a grudge against the Alpha who had called before. What if that Alpha took Xie Mo away again? Thinking it over, Xie Mo staying indoors was the best choice.
The shop window reflected the Omega’s dejected expression. He sighed at his reflection and prepared to turn back. Suddenly, the sound of honking reached his ears. A luxurious silver sedan pulled up beside him.
The window rolled down, revealing a very familiar face. Nie Xi cracked a smile, about to wave, but the Omega instantly became tense. Xie Mo turned on his heels and bolted in the opposite direction.
The commercial district was crowded, and the road ahead was gridlocked. Nie Xi could only watch as Xie Mo disappeared into the sea of people.
“Am I really that scary?” Nie Xi touched his face. In the shadows of the back seat, a tall Alpha was resting with his eyes closed. Ji Hanyue had been woken by the noise; he irritably opened his eyes just as Nie Xi chuckled.
Nie Xi turned around, leaning over the back of his seat playfully. “Ji Hanyue, guess who I just saw.”
“…Who?”
“Mm, I think his name is Xie Mo. Haven’t seen him in a long time.”
Just then, the light turned green. Nie Xi stepped on the gas, and the car crawled forward. The drowsiness Ji Hanyue felt vanished the second he heard that name. The atmosphere in the car plummeted as Ji Hanyue hissed through gritted teeth, “Why didn’t you say so sooner? Stop the car! Which way did he run?”
Nie Xi looked regretful. “I thought you two were done for good. He’s long gone by now.”
Ji Hanyue slumped back into his seat, irritably rubbing his throbbing temples. For half a month, he had been frantically calling Xie Mo and searching everywhere. The only response was the cold automated message saying the phone was turned off. It was as if the man had vanished into thin air.
A few days ago, he had caught a glimpse of Tang Yingrui’s back on a street corner. He wanted to give chase but hesitated for two seconds, wondering what to say. In those brief seconds, Tang Yingrui had disappeared. Ji Hanyue’s heart sank; he wasn’t someone who couldn’t live without another person, so he had stopped looking. Between his studies and company business, his thoughts of Xie Mo had faded significantly—until now.
…
Xie Mo ran all the way home, his chest heaving, his pale cheeks flushed bright red. After realizing Ji Hanyue had lied to him, Xie Mo had no intention of ever going back there. As for Nie Xi, he was Ji Hanyue’s friend—another Alpha full of lies. Xie Mo’s mind worked slowly; if he wasn’t careful, he’d get caught in their word traps, so he decided it was better not to talk to them at all.
He fumbled with his keys and pushed the door open, only to find Tang Yingrui wasn’t home. He had made soup in the kitchen, and it was just about ready to eat. He was about to call Tang Yingrui when the Alpha called him first.
“Where are you? Are you home?” Tang Yingrui’s voice carried clear anxiety, mixed with the sound of whistling wind. He was likely out searching.
Xie Mo leaned against the wall, feeling very guilty. He tapped the wall once, signaling he was home.
“Don’t go running off again! If you really want to go out, you must tell me, do you hear me?” Tang Yingrui had been searching in the opposite direction and had just missed him.
After hanging up, Tang Yingrui turned to rush back. He didn’t notice the black sedan parked by the road quietly starting up and following him slowly.
Tang Yingrui is so tired every day, and yet I’m causing trouble, Xie Mo thought. After waiting in the room for a few minutes, he couldn’t sit still. He grabbed his keys and went downstairs. Standing in the dim stairwell entrance, he watched expectantly for the familiar figure.
About two minutes later, Tang Yingrui appeared from the right. Xie Mo’s heart leaped with joy, and he was about to run toward him when the sedan behind Tang Yingrui suddenly accelerated. The tires screeched against the pavement as the car swerved in front of Tang Yingrui, blocking his path.
Tang Yingrui’s brows furrowed deeply. He glanced toward Xie Mo just as the car doors flew open. Several figures rushed out; Tang Yingrui was caught off guard by a heavy kick to the back of his knee. A piercing pain shot through him, making his vision go black. He felt like his kneecap was shattered; he couldn’t stand up. Before he could react, they used practiced grappling techniques to pin him to the ground.
The men dragged him roughly toward the car. It happened so fast that Xie Mo’s mind went blank. He watched Tang Yingrui being taken away and instinctively stepped forward to give chase, but he was stopped by the cold, murderous gaze of one of the men. That look was like a sharp blade, sending a chill straight to his soul.
“Don’t you fucking come over here!” Tang Yingrui’s desperate roar came from inside the car.
“Who’s that Omega?” someone asked, glancing at Tang Yingrui.
Tang Yingrui closed his eyes and turned his head away. “I don’t know him.”
A wave of overwhelming helplessness washed over Xie Mo. How could he just watch Tang Yingrui be taken by strangers? In his panic, he pulled out his phone to call the police. But before he could even open the dialer, the phone was snatched away. A tall Alpha loomed over him, eyes gleaming with malice.
A sharp urge came from the driver’s seat: “Don’t dawdle, get in the car!”
Left with no time to think, the Alpha decided to grab Xie Mo as well to eliminate him as an uncertain factor. The luxury car looked grand and expensive; no one would ever associate it with a kidnapping tool.
“Who are you people?” Tang Yingrui’s eyes were sharp as he glared at the Alpha closest to him.
The Alpha poked the inside of his cheek with his tongue and let out a disdainful sneer. “Mr. Kou sent us. We were a bit rough, hope you’ll excuse us.”
Tang Yingrui’s first thought was Kou Xingyu, but upon second thought, it felt wrong. Even if Kou Xingyu’s subordinates were arrogant, they usually maintained a modicum of politeness. They wouldn’t just forcibly take him without a word. Still, since they mentioned Kou Xingyu, he was definitely involved.
“This has nothing to do with the Omega. Bringing him is just a hassle; you should let him out.”
The Alphas ignored Tang Yingrui’s words, simply warning them to stay quiet before ignoring them.
Xie Mo wasn’t actually as scared as Tang Yingrui imagined. Last time, on the way to the casino, he had been alone. With Tang Yingrui by his side this time, he wasn’t as afraid.
“Who told you to follow? Didn’t you know to run?” Tang Yingrui hissed in a low voice. He didn’t want Xie Mo dragged into his mess with Kou Xingyu.
Xie Mo shrank closer to Tang Yingrui’s side and raised his hand to sign: “You said you bought me… I am yours. I can only stay by your side.”
He seemed stubbornly fixated on that fact. In this moment, he didn’t know how to be flexible. Tang Yingrui took a breath, feeling like he was burning his bridges. “Fine. Then remember your words—you must stay by my side.”
He wanted to say more, but a sharp blade was pressed against his throat. “Shut the hell up. This knife doesn’t have eyes.”
