Chapter 24: What Do You Mean “Also Fine”?
How could he not know?
In fact, half an hour ago, he had discovered that the low-grade Alpha, Tang Yingrui, had hooked up with one of his own friends. When he first heard the news, he didn’t quite believe it, but it only took a few minutes for him to accept it perfectly well. He was surrounded by all sorts of strange characters; two Alphas being together wasn’t even surprising anymore.
Ji Hanyue suddenly felt the Omega in his arms tense up. Clearly, the boy was afraid of being abandoned. A sudden streak of malice struck Ji Hanyue; he deliberately loosened his grip.
Xie Mo immediately panicked, reaching out to wrap his arms tightly around Ji Hanyue’s neck, terrified of falling. At this moment, no matter how much he disliked Ji Hanyue, he had no choice but to rely on him. He didn’t want to stay here. The people here were many times scarier than Ji Hanyue.
Ji Hanyue let out a cynical smirk. On one hand, he wants to leave me; on the other, he has to rely on me to save him when he meets danger. Truly impossible to read.
The venue fell into an unprecedented silence. Everyone instinctively stopped what they were doing and focused their attention here. A-San, drained of all strength and filled with despair, lay paralyzed on the ground, waiting for death to arrive.
Just then, a suppressed whimper pierced the dead silence.
“Ugh…”
In the past, such a faint sound would have been drowned out by the clamor. Now, it was piercingly clear.
The Omega in the bunny suit was kneeling on top of a gambling table, biting his lip and sobbing softly. The unhealed forced mark on the back of his neck looked like a hideous wound, still crusted with blood—one look told you it had been obtained through illicit means.
Xie He couldn’t keep his composure anymore. Running an underground casino was already a serious crime; being caught trafficking Omegas would make the penalty even worse. He scanned the room and asked loudly, his voice tight:
“Who kidnapped this Omega? Human beings are strictly forbidden as stakes in this establishment!”
With A-San as a cautionary tale, who would dare admit to it?
…
As if finding a glimmer of hope, the bunny Omega’s pupils contracted slightly, and he suddenly exploded with surprising strength. He wrenched free from the hand covering his mouth, tears and nasal sobs bursting out: “Sir! Help…”
Before he could finish, he was struck heavily on the back of the head. He went limp, and his bunny-ear headband fell to the floor. But it was too late; everyone had heard the cry for help.
“Shut your damn mouth!” A burly man growled a warning into the Omega’s ear. Thinking he was being stealthy, he began dragging the person toward the back door.
But he had only taken two steps when his shoulder was clamped by a massive force, making him grimace in pain. As the iron-like fingers tightened, he could no longer hold on and instinctively let go of the Omega. The Omega slumped down, only to be caught steadily by a nearby bodyguard.
In City A, there were many families that operated in both the legal and illegal worlds—families like the Fengs or the Nies. However, Xie He didn’t know much about this Young Master Ji. Currently, Ji Hanyue’s expression was unreadable, making it impossible to guess his thoughts.
As Xie He was trying to figure out the man’s intentions, he saw Ji Hanyue give the fallen A-San a meaningful look. In the next second, before A-San could react, a wave of intense pain hit him, accompanied by a tooth-aching crack.
A-San’s left leg bone was crushed by one of Ji Hanyue’s men. The bone-deep agony left A-San drenched in cold sweat, finding it difficult even to make a sound. His previous arrogance was completely gone. Afterward, Ji Hanyue and his group stepped directly over him and left without looking back.
“Boss Xie, it’s no problem if I take another person with me, right?” Ji Hanyue asked leisurely, having already walked quite a distance.
Xie He took a deep breath, suppressing the displeasure in his heart, and said with a fake smile, “As long as Young Master Ji is happy.” He then turned to signal his men to pick up A-San, who was rolling on the ground in pain, and looked down with a sneer. “Ji Hanyue only crippled one of your legs; consider yourself lucky.”
…
Pushing open the iron gate, Xie Mo finally breathed fresh air and couldn’t help but wiggle his body. Seeing this, Ji Hanyue set him down. Xie Mo was so thin that even after carrying him for so long, Ji Hanyue didn’t feel tired.
Ji Hanyue looked down, meeting Xie Mo’s eyes at the same level, his gaze heavy. “Still want to run?”
Xie Mo had been muffled inside the overcoat for a long time; his cheeks were flushed red as he took small sips of fresh air. Hearing the question, he hesitated for a moment and slowly shook his head.
Tang Yingrui had never contacted him. This made a thought emerge out of nowhere: Had Tang Yingrui abandoned him? He recalled how gentle Tang Yingrui had been over the past few months—he rarely lost his temper and even bought him ribs for every meal.
Was he preparing for this day all along?
Ji Hanyue looked at Xie Mo’s dimming eyes, opened his palm, and asked with a half-smile, “Guess how I knew you were here?”
After the recent ordeal, Xie Mo’s impression of him had improved slightly. He dejectedly wrote stroke by stroke on Ji Hanyue’s palm: “I don’t know.”
It felt as though at the critical moment, Ji Hanyue’s face had flashed in his mind, and then Ji Hanyue had appeared. He had to admit, he was grateful to him.
Ji Hanyue curled his lips into a smile that didn’t reach his eyes. “Because Tang Yingrui gave you to me.”
“…”
As if he hadn’t understood, Xie Mo froze in place, his pupils trembling slightly as he stared blankly at the man. Ji Hanyue let out a light sigh and said with feigned helplessness, “He said that rather than raising a useless mute, he’d rather trade you for some cash. So, I had no choice but to take you over.”
Ji Hanyue’s words were half-true and half-false, and Xie Mo couldn’t tell the difference by looking at his face. Such a thing was indeed something Tang Yingrui was capable of doing. As things stood, being given to Ji Hanyue was actually the best possible outcome.
Xie Mo bit his lip, his long eyelashes fluttering. After glancing at Ji Hanyue several times with dark eyes, he walked toward the Maybach on his own. He opened the door and sat inside. The answer was obvious: Xie Mo believed him.
“Young Master, are we going back now or…?” a bodyguard asked. Beside him stood the trembling Omega they had just rescued.
Ji Hanyue looked at the Omega, who seemed about to faint from the cold. He clicked his tongue impatiently and jerked his chin at the bodyguard. “Give him a coat to wrap up in.”
After giving the order, he walked toward the car. A thin, trembling voice suddenly floated from behind him: “Th-thank you, Young Master Ji…”
The Omega was still wearing that pink and white bunny suit, the skirt fluttering in the night wind. He clutched the temporary coat and looked timidly at Ji Hanyue’s back. Ji Hanyue ignored him. From the corner of his eye, he saw Xie Mo’s profile glowing softly under the warm yellow interior light of the car.
Hmm, he looks a bit gloomy.
Just as he reached the car door, he realized the other Omega had followed him. His brows furrowed, and his tone was icy: “Get in the one behind.”
The bunny Omega bit his pale lips and looked past Ji Hanyue, straight at Xie Mo inside the car. Xie Mo met his gaze for a moment, then hesitantly shifted to the side, making room.
Seeing that the other person was actually about to get in, Ji Hanyue laughed in anger. He shoved the person aside. “You’re dreaming. Either sit in the back or crawl back underground.”
The Omega didn’t dare move again. He had assumed that since Ji Hanyue saved him, it must have been because of his beauty. But now, seeing Ji Hanyue’s disgusted look, he wasn’t so sure. The car door slammed shut in his face, and the vehicle sped away.
The following cars trailed behind. The autumn night wind rattled the iron gate, and the Omega finally woke up to his physiological fear. If he stayed here, only deeper darkness awaited him. He stumbled after the last car, and as it slowed down, he pulled open the door and scrambled inside.
…
Inside the Maybach, aside from the assistant focusing on driving, there was only Xie Mo, who was looking down and thinking, and Ji Hanyue, who was feeling inexplicably irritated.
“What were you thinking just now? Moving over to give him a seat, letting him sit between us?”
Hearing this, Xie Mo looked up, took Ji Hanyue’s hand, and wrote on it. Feeling the light, itchy sliding on his palm, Ji Hanyue’s face darkened immediately upon understanding what Xie Mo had written.
“What do you mean, ‘it would also be fine’?”
He gazed gloomily at Xie Mo. “Would you be satisfied if I had left you there and only brought him up instead?”
This threat was very effective; Xie Mo immediately fell silent.
