Chapter 22: What Do You Mean “Serious”?
“Got it, He-ge. If there’s nothing else, I’m hanging up?”
Anyone with eyes could see that the young master of the Kou family and Tang Yingrui shared a deep, unusual connection. As for this Omega, A-San was certain that the Kou family had no idea he existed. Otherwise, they wouldn’t willingly play the fool and pay off Tang Yingrui’s debts time after time.
He wasn’t sure what Tang Yingrui was thinking, but one thing was clear: if this Omega were brought into the light, Tang Yingrui would never admit to keeping him. After all, who would risk losing a powerful backer like the Kou family for the sake of a powerless little Omega?
Because of this, A-San had no intention of sending the Omega back. He just wanted to brush his boss off and finish what he had started.
But on the other end, Xie He said coldly, “Are you hiding an Omega there?”
It wasn’t a question, but a statement of fact.
A-San’s eyelid flickered. He couldn’t help but steal another glance at Xie Mo. The boy was huddled in the corner of the bed, his jacket pulled tight and buttoned to the chin, motionless.
“There is one,” A-San didn’t dare lie and answered truthfully.
Xie He’s tone turned ice-cold. “Send him back.”
The duck was already in his hand; to let it fly away without taking a single bite felt like a massive loss. A-San hesitated. “He-ge, it’s just a little Omega. Young Master Kou might not even care.”
He intentionally brought up the Kou family, hoping to downplay the matter. He didn’t expect the usually unflappable Xie He to suddenly explode.
“If anything happens to that Omega, a hundred of your lives won’t be enough to pay for it! You have half an hour to get him back!”
A-San was stunned. “It… it can’t be that serious, right?” Does Young Master Kou have some kind of fetish for his subordinate’s lover?
“What do you mean ‘serious’?”
Xie He’s voice roared through the receiver, sounding as if he might leap out of the phone. “Kou Xingyu called personally to demand him! I’m telling you now, if the casino goes under because of this, your two younger brothers will pay with their lives!”
Xie He hung up immediately. A-San stood there in a daze. This was the first time Xie He had spoken with such ruthlessness. It made him wonder: just who was this Omega?
…
Xie Mo was frantically planning a way out of the room without being noticed by the others in the casino. But after visualizing several routes, he realized with sinking despair that none of them were viable.
Then he saw A-San hang up the phone, a dark expression on his face as he walked toward him. Xie Mo hurriedly grabbed a pillow to shield his chest, his back pressed against the cold wall, his body trembling uncontrollably.
When A-San reached him, he looked vicious. He suddenly grabbed Xie Mo’s chin, forcing the small face upward. A-San narrowed his eyes, his thumb rubbing over the boy’s pale lips. Aside from the pretty face, the clothes he wore were cheap—like something from a ten-yuan street stall.
A-San didn’t believe in his heart that such an Omega possessed any power to threaten him. Yet, Xie He’s tone hadn’t been an act. This discrepancy only fueled A-San’s twisted curiosity. He even ignored the sudden, violent thuds of someone kicking the door outside.
A-San was cold-blooded regarding family; using his brothers as chips wasn’t enough to stop him. His grip tightened, leaving red marks on Xie Mo’s cheeks. Xie Mo instinctively grabbed A-San’s arm, trying to pull it away. The Alpha was too strong; his face hurt terribly.
A-San smirked, his knee pressing heavily onto the soft mattress, easily pinning down Xie Mo’s struggling legs. “Tsk. To me, it looks like you’re faking being a mute. If you just say one nice word to me, I’ll let you go…”
BANG!!!
Before he could finish, the door collapsed with a thunderous roar. Dust and wood splinters filled the air. A-San turned by reflex, only to be met by a heavy fist that slammed into his face with the sound of breaking wind.
Ji Hanyue arrived wrapped in the biting chill of the outside world. He held nothing back. A-San was sent spinning to the floor. The Alpha’s cheek swelled visibly within seconds, and a bead of crimson blood trickled from his split lip down his chin.
Following close behind was a troop of well-trained bodyguards who sealed the room shut. Quite a few curious casino patrons peered in from the hallway.
The commotion was so massive that Xie Mo hadn’t fully processed it yet. His teary eyes were wide with shock. He remained curled in the corner, clutching his legs.
Ji Hanyue’s gaze swept over the purple-red marks on the boy’s cheeks, his jawline tightening to a sharp edge. And he thought he’d be fine after leaving me.
He took off his heavy overcoat and draped it over the Omega’s thin shoulders. Then, he scooped the boy into his arms, ignoring everyone as he strode toward the door. The bodyguards immediately cleared a path through the crowd.
A-San curled on the floor, clutching his face, seeing stars. When he finally managed to see the receding figure, he exploded in rage. “Who the f*** is that?!! Who let him in?!!!”
No one answered. Someone in the crowd muttered, “That’s what you get for trying to keep a prize for yourself, serves you right…” Before they could finish, a bodyguard’s elbow slammed them into the wall. The man in black warned expressionlessly: “If you want to live, shut your mouth.”
…
Xie Mo was terrified, his fingers gripping Ji Hanyue’s collar tightly. Ji Hanyue’s rage dissipated by half at the boy’s instinctive reliance. He closed his eyes and, through the thin fabric, began to rhythmically pat Xie Mo’s back.
“If you had stayed in the villa like a good boy, none of this would have happened.”
Xie Mo gasped for air, and as he felt the Alpha release soothing pheromones, his tensed spirit gradually began to relax. Compared to those terrifying, disgusting Alphas who couldn’t be reasoned with, the temperamental Ji Hanyue suddenly felt much friendlier. There was an inexplicable sense of security.
As they stepped out of the room, half the eyes in the casino swept over them like needles—some curious, some shocked. Everyone wondered which young master had graced the casino this time. The last time they saw a scene like this was the night a young master from the Kou family brought cash to redeem someone.
Ji Hanyue frowned, uncomfortable with the scrutiny. He only wanted to get out of this foul-smelling underground den. His germophobia was kicking in; the mix of stenches made him want to gag.
A subordinate whispered beside him, “Young Master, how should we handle this casino?”
Ji Hanyue had no prior grudge against the place, but he felt the person in his arms shudder. He paused and said flatly, “Why ask me? It’s an illegal establishment. Call the police.”
The bodyguard blinked, then responded immediately, “Yes, sir.”
Unexpectedly, as they reached the edge of the corridor, they came face-to-face with another group. At the head was a young Alpha dressed in a crisp, formal suit.
