“That’s it for today’s work. Everyone, thank the young lady!!”
“Thank you very much!!”
By the time work ended, everyone’s attitude had become incredibly polite.
After that incident, they all worried about me, but I brushed it off as just a special skill of mine and the matter was settled.
By early afternoon, work was finished. Normally it would last until evening, but apparently there was nothing left to do today because I’d worked too hard.
I got so carried away because moving my body felt so enjoyable.
“Young lady, you really saved us today. We’re counting on you tomorrow too.”
“Yes, of course.”
This job request was for five days. So, it would continue tomorrow and beyond.
“Well then, shall we stop by the forest?”
“Finally. I’ve been waiting forever.”
“I’ll make dinner at the inn tonight, so forgive me.”
“Hmph! Don’t think that’ll be enough to earn my forgiveness!”
“Should I not make it then?”
“I never said that was okay!!”
After confirming everyone had left, we headed toward the forest near town while chatting animatedly.
“I’ll be going then. Don’t wander off.”
“I know.”
The nearby monsters would be taken care of by Ark, so it should be fine even if I move around.
But I won’t mention that I noticed.
After seeing Ark off, I began searching for medicinal herbs.
“Ah, this is Pyuria grass used for healing potions. It looks very similar to the poisonous Shivore grass, so many people mistake them.”
The trick is the color of the pattern on the leaf’s underside. Shivore grass has red streaks in the pattern. If you check that carefully, you can gather them without mistakes.
Healing potions treat injuries and internal inflammation.
Since they’re highly sought after for accelerating wound healing, today I’ll mainly search for ingredients for this medicine.
“I remember when some Shivore grass got mixed in with delivered Pyuria grass, and I used it without realizing. That was awful!”
Back then, I wasn’t used to concocting yet, and the people who were my family at the time got furious with me.
I recall how my already fragile mental state was completely shattered, as if it was someone else’s memory.
Now that my past self’s personality is stronger, it feels like I’m watching someone else’s memories.
“Ah~ what a waste. This one’s grown too much and can’t be used for medicine anymore.”
Of course, I don’t forget to gather any good specimens I find.
What I found was Rurin grass.
A somewhat rare herb used for mana potions that restore magic power. This herb is most potent right after sprouting and completely loses its medicinal properties by the time it buds.
It’s like bamboo shoots.
After searching for a while, I found several Rurin grasses at the right growth stage.
“Qualo grass for stamina potions. You have to carefully remove this with the roots intact, or the quality deteriorates quickly.”
Using a shovel, I dig up the soil and carefully brush it off before packing the herbs into a leather bag.
Stamina potions reduce fatigue and help recover stamina.
There were other herbs scattered about, but these three types were most common in this area.
“I need to gather Nori-Nori moss, Hiero, and Pipis honey too.”
Healing potions also require Nori-Nori moss and Hiero, which resembles aloe.
For the moss, I carefully scrape it off wood pieces bit by bit with a wooden tool.
If torn by hand, it immediately begins deteriorating and becomes unusable.
Next is Hiero. Unlike aloe, its white leaves peek out from tree roots.
“Mustn’t break the Hiero. Slowly now…”
I carefully dig it out.
The jelly-like substance inside the peeled outer leaves helps harmonize the medicinal properties of ingredients. This jelly starts deteriorating as soon as it’s exposed to air, so extracting it unbroken is crucial.
This step is easy to mess up without experience. But since I was made to grow these behind the concoction hut and always pulled them from there, it’s no problem. Silently, I carefully extract it.
Finally, I search for Pipis flower honey. Since many were blooming, I filled a whole jar.
All these grow abundantly in this forest, so I gathered plenty, feeling satisfied.
I separate them into different leather bags and pack them in my backpack.
“Did you gather enough herbs?”
Hours later, Ark returned.
Looking up, I see the light filtering through the trees has turned to dusk.
“Yeah, enough for today at least.”
I proudly show him one of the herb-gathering backpacks now stuffed full.
“I see. Found these on the way back, so I picked them up for you.”
“Oh, pears! Thanks, Ark.”
“Hmph, they were just there in front of me, so I grabbed them.”
“Sure, sure.”
After packing the pears Ark brought again, we return to the inn. After dinner, I begin preparing to make potions for the apothecary in my room.
If I make them tonight, I can sell them tomorrow morning.
To avoid trapping odors, I open the window wide and take out mortar and other concoction tools. Lining up ingredients on the desk, I first finely chop the Pyuria grass.
I put the chopped leaves and stems in the mortar, crushing them while channeling magic from my hand into the pestle.
Meanwhile, I gradually mix in the Nori-Nori moss while keeping it moist, thoroughly crushing until it becomes a viscous liquid.
Then I transfer it to a bowl, adding Hiero contents bit by bit while stirring with a wooden stick channeling magic.
When everything blends together, I finish by adding just a few drops of Pipis honey.
Channeling magic through my fingertips for one final stir.
The color changes to a translucent green, resembling Iris—my current self’s eye color.
“Okay, success.”
I check the quality on my hand.
It has a cider-like refreshing scent and tastes like fruit jelly.
This confirms the healing potion is complete. I was a little nervous since I’d only made them with home tools before, but it turned out well.
Now I can sell potions tomorrow.
Thinking this, I start making the next batch.

Meanwhile, at that same time.
“Well then, Norman, this will be your workplace starting today.”
“This is an amazing facility.”
The pharmacist Norman Boardless was shown a brand-new building by a man around forty.
Inside was every possible medicine-making tool imaginable. A room prepared solely for concoctions.
“Then begin your preparations immediately.”
“Understood.”
The man left Norman there.
“Well then, shall we begin preparations?”
He already had quotas assigned. He needed to start making them quickly.
“Well, this should do.”
In mere minutes, one medicine was complete. A healing potion. The quality was fine.
“Come to think of it, I’ve never seen the predecessor’s potions. Are they somewhere?”
Searching another room, he immediately found them.
Wooden boxes lined up, clearly containing medicines.
“Let’s see just how incompetent they were…”
Norman took down a wooden box and opened the lid.
“Wh—!? What is this!? Magic medicine!? That’s impossible!!”
The moment he saw the healing potion inside, Norman screamed.
