- Chapter 32.2 - Restless Stirrings—"Lady, Taste My Tail"
The chicken soup simmered on the stove in the clay pot. Cang Lan sat on the small stool, chin in her hands, staring quietly at it, occasionally sneaking a peek under the lid.
The rich aroma of the soup began to waft through the small hole in the lid. Cang Lan took a deep sniff, her mouth watering. She quietly lifted the lid.
The golden soup was bubbling, and the fresh fragrance filled the air, drifting out the kitchen window and attracting many surrounding demons.
However, they could only approach the Dragon Pool and sniff from the edge. If the petty Black Dragon caught them trespassing, they would be seized by her swift and ruthless subordinates and made an example of.
Yu Xuanji lay on the bed, holding the animal-skin pillow Cang Lan had sewn for her. The stitching was messy and uneven, looking like ugly centipedes.
Yet Yu Xuanji gently stroked those “centipede legs.” She remembered the day she was brought back to the cave by Cang Lan. Her body had been ice-cold, and she had lost consciousness. When she woke, she was wrapped so tightly by the Black Dragon that not a breath of air could get through.
Fearing she wouldn’t sleep well, Cang Lan had moved a large round stone inside and covered it with the fur of hunted beasts.
Because she had said she couldn’t sleep well at night because her neck felt unsupported, Cang Lan had found bone needles and shark-silk thread and personally sewn two crooked, ugly little pillows for her.
While sewing, Cang Lan’s hands had been pricked many times. After finishing, her fingers were covered in tiny needle marks, which she had tried to hide.
Yu Xuanji licked her dry lips and pressed her forehead against the soft, furry pillow.
After a while, the faint scent of chicken soup filled the room. Yu Xuanji’s lips curled into a smile, knowing Cang Lan would soon be coming to call her for breakfast.
However, she found it strange. Why was today’s breakfast so fragrant? It was clearly abnormal. Had they hired some God of Cooking?
Yu Xuanji threw back the covers, but before she could sit up, Cang Lan burst in, holding a bowl of bright, golden chicken soup.
There was a large chicken leg in the bowl. Cang Lan took two deep sniffs of the aroma. With one hand holding the bowl and the other pressing Yu Xuanji down, she insisted on keeping her in bed.
Yu Xuanji was pushed back down before she could even rise. She lay there helplessly, smiling at Cang Lan. Her complexion was paler than usual, likely due to the sleepless night.
Cang Lan held the fragrant soup, blowing on it gently. She scooped up a spoonful, waited for it to cool, and brought it to Yu Xuanji’s lips.
Yu Xuanji paused, reaching out to take it, but Cang Lan said, “Lady has worked hard. Let me feed this soup to you.”
Seeing Cang Lan’s persistence, Yu Xuanji smiled, leaned forward slightly, and drank the soup.
The soup was rich but not greasy, with a deep flavor and even a hint of sweetness, likely from the celestial herbs.
After a sip, Yu Xuanji smiled and asked, “It’s delicious. A-Lan, did you make this?”
Cang Lan thought for a moment and said a bit shyly, “This soup… Huang Liu and I made it together. I killed the chicken, plucked it, and tended the fire. She made the soup. It was a division of labor.”
Yu Xuanji smiled. “And Huang Liu? She contributed to this soup too. Remember to give her a bowl.”
Cang Lan scratched her head guiltily. “Huang Liu… she… she doesn’t like chicken soup. She likes chicken butts. Just giving her a piece of chicken butt is enough.”
Having been with Cang Lan for so long, nothing the little dragon did could escape Yu Xuanji’s notice. With a twitch of the nose or a shift in the eyes, Yu Xuanji knew she was up to no good.
Right now, Cang Lan’s nose was twitching, her eyes were darting, and her brows were slightly raised—the classic look of someone with a guilty conscience.
Yu Xuanji took another sip of soup and asked tentatively, “Huang Liu…”
She had only said two words when Cang Lan set the bowl down and burst into tears, throwing herself into Yu Xuanji’s arms and wailing. “Lady, waaaaaah…”
Yu Xuanji was knocked backward by the impact. She used her free hand to pat Cang Lan’s back, asking anxiously, “What’s wrong? What’s wrong? Who bullied you now?”
As soon as the words left her mouth, Yu Xuanji closed her eyes, realizing the second half of her question was nonsensical. In the Wilderness, it seemed only Cang Lan was capable of bullying others.
Cang Lan looked up piteously, sobbing, “That villain Huang Liu… she… she…”
Cang Lan bit her lower lip, crying so hard she trembled. She surreptitiously wiped her tears on Yu Xuanji’s chest and said aggrievedly, “She asked why we don’t have children yet. She asked if I was… if I wasn’t capable. She even said she’d introduce me to a doctor… Lady, say something! Judge this for me! Don’t you think she was bullying me?”
Yu Xuanji pressed her lips together tightly, holding Cang Lan and patting her back. She comforted her, “Huang Liu… she was indeed wrong to do that. You should just scold her.”
Cang Lan bumped her rounded dragon horns against Yu Xuanji’s palm and shook her head vigorously. “Not enough, not enough. I already sent her flying into the sky. She probably hasn’t come down yet.”
Yu Xuanji looked up at the skylight. “…”
No wonder she had heard a scream and seen something fly past earlier.
Yu Xuanji asked cautiously, “Then… will she die?”
Cang Lan shook her head. “Probably not. She’s a thousand-year-old demon, after all. If she died from a fall like that, she’d be a laughingstock.”
Yu Xuanji sighed, cupped Cang Lan’s cheeks, and kissed the teardrops on her face. “A-Lan, you mustn’t do that again. It’s easy to cause a fatal accident.”
Cang Lan lowered her head, looking stubborn. “Who told her to say I’m not capable? She hasn’t even seen my skills, yet she dares to say I’m not capable. It’s a heinous crime!”
Yu Xuanji frowned. “Your skills? What skills?”
Cang Lan’s face turned beet red again. “Of… of course, my skills in bed.”
Yu Xuanji pinched Cang Lan’s chin, rubbing her nose against her cheek. She said softly, “You aren’t allowed to say such things to others. You can only say them to me. Do you understand?”
Cang Lan nodded. “I understand.”
Yu Xuanji kissed her on the mouth and gave a helpless smile. “You are still young. Such talk is private between a couple. If outsiders ask, you aren’t to say a single word. However, Huang Liu meant well. You aren’t allowed to bully her anymore.”
Cang Lan leaned against Yu Xuanji’s thigh, drawing out her words. “Lady—”
Yu Xuanji raised a finger and scratched under Cang Lan’s chin. The little dragon cooperatively tilted her head back, narrowing her eyes and humming in comfort. Her tail emerged from behind her, wagging in sync with her head.
“Puppy dragon.”
Cang Lan opened her eyes and pinned Yu Xuanji to the bed, sitting directly on her thighs. She gripped Yu Xuanji’s legs tightly through the blanket and narrowed her eyes dangerously. “What did Lady say?”
Yu Xuanji froze for a moment, not expecting her inner thoughts to slip out. Knowing how easily Cang Lan got jealous, she shook her head and denied it. “Nothing.”
“Really?” Cang Lan gripped Yu Xuanji’s waist with both hands and leaned in closer, her nose touching Yu Xuanji’s. “Speak, or I’ll bite you.”
Yu Xuanji smiled, arching an eyebrow. Her tone was almost provocative. “Fine, bite away. But besides getting drool all over me, what else can you do?”
Hearing this, Cang Lan felt like she was about to explode with indignation. Yu Xuanji had called her useless. A warrior can be killed but not insulted; she had to make Yu Xuanji pay the “price.”
The thick, long dragon tail once again coiled around Yu Xuanji, this time binding her even tighter. When she tried to lift her head, Cang Lan pressed her down. “A-Lan, what are you doing?”
Cang Lan gave a cunning smile. She used the tip of her tail to gently tap Yu Xuanji’s belly, then leaned in to kiss her nose and mouth. She said playfully, “Lady, can you guess what I’m going to do?”
Yu Xuanji shook her head, only to hear Cang Lan say, “Lady is my Lady; she should be thinking of me, longing for me, and protecting me at every turn. Yet, I didn’t expect Lady to join in with others to bully me.”
Cang Lan watched as Yu Xuanji’s red lips parted slightly, revealing neat, snowy teeth and a soft, red tongue.
She had already tasted Yu Xuanji’s tongue. It was sweet, soft, tender, and smooth—more delicious than any fruit she had ever eaten.
But her mouth had tasted it; her tail had not.
For a dragon, the reverse scale, the horns, and the tail were the most important parts. The scales at the tip of the tail were the smallest and most delicate—and, of course, the most sensitive. It was also a place where she could have babies with Xuanji.
A terrifying thought surged through Cang Lan’s mind. She slowly loosened her grip on Yu Xuanji, and her tail quietly lengthened, coiling around Yu Xuanji’s long, fair neck, twitching restlessly.
Yu Xuanji didn’t yet realize she was being targeted. She parted her lips, intending to kiss Cang Lan’s mouth to get her to let go. “A-Lan, be good. Let me go first. It’s broad daylight; we can talk properly tonight. You first… mmm…”
Something cold pressed against her lips. Yu Xuanji opened her eyes wide to see the tip of Cang Lan’s tail resting against her mouth. After lingering for a moment, it attempted to probe into the seam of her lips.
Cang Lan: “Lady, do you want to taste my tail?”
