- Chapter 30.1 - Itching Tail, A-Lan, Pat Me
An Zhi and Ting Lan stood by the edge of the field. Originally, they had intended to go down and help, but to their surprise, they saw Yu Xuanji “wrestling” with an unidentified creature in the mud.
Suspicion rose in their hearts. Without a second thought, they jumped down, splashing themselves with mud, and shouted in unison, “Master! Have you encountered a monster?”
When Yu Xuanji turned around, her hair, eyebrows, and her entire face were a mess, covered in fresh mud spots. She looked exceptionally hilarious.
The always solemn and self-possessed Yu Xuanji could not possibly do something so out of character. An Zhi and Ting Lan pressed their lips together tightly, maintaining a state of smiling without actually laughing.
Finally, An Zhi could not hold it in any longer. Seeing Yu Xuanji holding a long strip covered in sludge, she asked, “Master, what kind of thing have you caught?”
Yu Xuanji’s arm was tightly entwined by the Black Dragon’s tail, and its two back claws were clutching her cuff firmly. She replied with a straight face, “I picked up a loach.”
An Zhi’s eyes sparkled with joy as she said, “Wow! That’s great! I love eating loach!”
As soon as she spoke, the Black Dragon’s tail tightened its grip, and its four dragon claws gripped Yu Xuanji’s arm, pinching her so hard it was both itchy and painful, as if it were calling for help. The corner of Yu Xuanji’s mouth slowly curled up. “I brought this back to release it.”
After Yu Xuanji left carrying this “loach,” An Zhi and Ting Lan stood in the rice field looking at each other.
An Zhi scratched her head and asked, “Don’t loaches live in the fields anyway? Where is the Master going to release it? She wouldn’t eat it secretly while we aren’t looking, would she?”
Ting Lan shook her head, seemingly understanding something. She picked up a bundle of rice seedlings and threw them to An Zhi, saying with a smile, “Don’t worry about that. Let’s get to work. Our task today is to finish planting this whole field.”
Yu Xuanji carried Cang Lan back to the cave dwelling and ran straight into the Ginseng Baby jumping around to play. Behind it followed two smaller babies with pairs of colorful, transparent wings on their backs.
Seeing Yu Xuanji, the Ginseng Baby immediately stood at attention, baring its teeth in a grin. “Xuanji, these are my two little butterfly friends. I’m taking them out to play.”
Yu Xuanji’s lips curved into a smile. “Alright, stay safe. Don’t go too far.”
The Ginseng Baby looked at the mud-covered strip in Yu Xuanji’s hand and asked curiously, “Xuanji, what are you holding?”
Yu Xuanji lowered her gaze and smiled. “A disobedient little loach.”
On the way back, Cang Lan clung tightly to Yu Xuanji’s arm. She opened a pair of pale gold eyes and blew a black bubble toward Yu Xuanji.
The bubble floated to Yu Xuanji’s nose and exploded directly on her face. The mud spots on her face and hair had already dried, but this mud bubble sent fresh splatters all over her again.
Having done her mischief, Cang Lan gloated inwardly. She wrapped her tail around Yu Xuanji’s neck and rubbed her mud-soaked body vigorously against her, staining her chest, waist, and back with a layer of wet mud.
This malicious behavior was clearly intentional, but Yu Xuanji was not annoyed at all. Instead, the corners of her mouth rose gradually into a subtle arc.
Seeing that Yu Xuanji wasn’t angry but was smiling instead, Cang Lan became even more reckless. She used her wet tail to lift Yu Xuanji’s chin, her scales rubbing incessantly against her neck.
Just as they entered the cave, Yu Xuanji saw Huang Liu and the others preparing to head out, looking around for something before they left.
Seeing Yu Xuanji in such a disheveled state, covered in mud, Huang Liu said in shock, “Madam, did you fight a fierce battle with some monster? Where is the Great King?”
The Iron-Eating Beast pointed at the long object in Yu Xuanji’s hand and asked, “Could it be this monster that bullied the Madam? However, Madam is a mere mortal, yet so powerful that dealing with monsters is a breeze. We truly admire you to the point of prostration.”
Only the Gray Wolf Demon recognized this “loach” covered in sludge. Those powerful four limbs, that rebellious gaze, and that heaven-swallowing aura… it looked somewhat familiar.
The Gray Wolf Demon narrowed her eyes and thought to herself that things were bad. This “loach” seemed to be their majestic Great King.
Terrified, she quickly pushed Huang Liu and the Iron-Eating Beast to make a hurried escape.
Huang Liu didn’t understand. “Old Wolf, why are you pushing us?”
The Gray Wolf Demon whispered a warning while fleeing in panic, “You two idiots, do you want to die?”
All the obstacles in the cave had vanished. Cang Lan coiled lazily around Yu Xuanji’s neck, her tail patting Yu Xuanji’s back, and her dragon head resting on her shoulder, rubbing Yu Xuanji’s chin with her two round dragon horns.
Cang Lan prepared to transform back into her human form, but Yu Xuanji suddenly pinched her reverse scale with one hand. The once spirited dragon instantly became powerless, her tail drooping.
Yu Xuanji held the Black Dragon by the scruff of its neck with one hand and toyed with the reverse scale with the other, her smile gentle. “Is it fun?”
The Black Dragon nodded, released her hold on Yu Xuanji’s neck, and wound down her arm. Her dragon head rested in Yu Xuanji’s palm, and she stuck her tongue out twice at her.
Looking at the wicked dragon who continued to act spoiled even after her mischief, Yu Xuanji walked straight toward the hot spring cave.
Man, and dragon entwined together, Yu Xuanji jumped into the hot spring pool without hesitation. The moment she emerged from the water, all the filth on her body was washed clean.
Cang Lan wanted to change back, but her scruff and the reverse scale on her neck were in Yu Xuanji’s hands. She was held so firmly she couldn’t even move.
Cang Lan tried to use her tail to hook Yu Xuanji’s wrist to make her let go, but Yu Xuanji’s strength seemed to have become very great, even she was a bit overwhelmed.
As the majestic Black Dragon King, undefeated across the world, Cang Lan struggled incredulously a few more times at being held so tightly by a mortal. Yu Xuanji was clearly just an ordinary person—not a demon, nor a cultivator—so why did she have such great strength?
Seeing Cang Lan’s vague attempt to transform into human form, Yu Xuanji chuckled and said nothing.
Rhythmic bursts of warm water washed through the gaps in her scales. Cang Lan splashed in the water and opened her mouth to beg for mercy. “Wife! Wife, I know I was wrong!”
Yu Xuanji continued to wash the Black Dragon’s body with the hot spring water. She had originally thought dragon scales would be indestructible and hard to the touch, but she hadn’t expected that after Cang Lan shrank, her scales would become softer too.
Cang Lan tried calling Yu Xuanji’s name, but the other woman’s eyes remained dazed, as if her mind were elsewhere. Seeing that she was being ignored, Cang Lan continued to plead, “Wife, I really know I was wrong, please spare me! I won’t ever dare to get mud on you again.”
She knew clearly that Yu Xuanji loved cleanliness and hated dirty things, yet she had maliciously covered her in mud. Anyone would find it hard to bear.
Yu Xuanji was brought back to her senses by Cang Lan’s wail. Seeing Cang Lan blinking her round golden eyes, Yu Xuanji asked with a smile, “Do you know what you did wrong?”
Cang Lan said piteously, “I shouldn’t have bullied my wife and made her body dirty. It’s all my fault.”
Yu Xuanji shook her head with a smile. “No, that’s not a mistake. That’s clearly a manifestation of your love and closeness to me.”
Cang Lan opened her dragon mouth wide, stunned by those words.
Yu Xuanji cupped the dragon’s head and kissed each of the two dragon horns that were smooth and glossy like black jade. Her lips fell on the dragon’s forehead as she said intimately, “You do these things because you like me. You don’t even dare to use force when coiling around me. If it were any other demon, they would have been torn to shreds by you long ago.”
Before Cang Lan could speak, she heard Yu Xuanji say again, “In the future, when you are in your original form, you are only allowed to entwine yourself around me. You can only be intimate with me, and only I can touch you. You must remember these words forever.”
Yu Xuanji’s voice was soft and ethereal, as if talking to herself, yet also serving as a specific warning to Cang Lan. “If I find out you let someone else touch you, I will peel off your scales one by one and bind you tightly with immortal-binding ropes. Do you understand?”
Cang Lan felt Yu Xuanji’s words were a bit unreasonable, but after hearing them, she felt they made perfect sense. Anyone who dared to touch her would be courting death.
Thinking this, Cang Lan felt this was the easiest thing in the world, so she swore, “I swear, only my wife can touch me! If anyone dares to move against me, I will eat their flesh and soul!”
Yu Xuanji kissed Cang Lan’s forehead again and nodded with satisfaction. “Good girl.”
Once the restraint on her scruff and reverse scale vanished, Cang Lan transformed into her human form in the water, her clothes gone. She stood with her back to Yu Xuanji, only to be held tightly from behind by the woman.
Yu Xuanji’s lips pressed against Cang Lan’s nape. There was a layer of light, dense scales on her body that reflected colorful light under the illumination of the night pearls.
Looking at her own chest covered in black scales, Cang Lan feared this appearance would frighten the other woman. She gripped Yu Xuanji’s wrist and said softly, “Wife, my… my scales have grown back. Maybe you should close your eyes; I’m afraid I’ll scare you.”
Yu Xuanji’s hands rested on Cang Lan’s waist, her palms in intimate contact with the soft, cool scales. She said lovingly, “Your scales are beautiful—cool and soft, finer and silkier than water-polished jade. I like them very much.”
Cang Lan was dazed by the woman’s soft, pleasant voice. She didn’t quite know what Yu Xuanji was talking about, but she knew it was a compliment. She was both shy and happy. One hand gripped Yu Xuanji’s wrist while the other shyly covered her face, too bashful to say a word.
“Wife… Wife…”
Cang Lan turned her head and pressed Yu Xuanji against the smooth stone wall, kissing her chin and then her neck. The long, thick dragon tail behind her was almost pointing to the sky.
Her breathing unsteady, Yu Xuanji smiled and asked, “What is it?”
Cang Lan said shyly, “I want… want to rub against my wife. My body is itchy.”
Yu Xuanji used two fingers to tilt Cang Lan’s chin and asked with a smile, “Just rubbing? No other thoughts?”
Cang Lan’s itch wasn’t external; it was a deep itch seeping from her bones that couldn’t be relieved no matter how much she scratched. She had to do something.
In a moment, Cang Lan’s tail uncontrollably wrapped around Yu Xuanji’s waist. Cang Lan’s eyes turned red. she stared straight at Yu Xuanji, her face flushed, but her eyes were as pure as a blank sheet of paper. “Wife, my… my tail is so itchy. I want to rub it. Don’t reject me, I will be very, very careful.”
