- Chapter 29.1 - The Miraculous Use of Dragon Saliva — A Sacred Mating Ritual
It was late, and Cang Lan held Yu Xuanji tightly in her arms. Her thick, long dragon tail was wrapped around Xuanji’s waist and thighs, just as it always was.
Recalling the moment not long ago when Yu Xuanji had sat upon her tail, Cang Lan’s face suddenly flushed red for an instant.
Yu Xuanji was wicked; while doing such things, she would hook her arms around Cang Lan’s neck and smile. Her voice was gentle yet incredibly seductive, leaving Cang Lan lightheaded and floating in a daze.
Cang Lan lowered her gaze once more, only to find that Yu Xuanji had already closed her eyes and fallen into a deep sleep. She let out a silent sigh, licked her lips, and planted a soft, lingering kiss on the other woman’s forehead.
The kiss was cautious. Cang Lan held her breath and quickly turned her head away after the kiss, terrified that the sound of her breathing or her heartbeat might wake Xuanji.
She had planted her own scales on those two little ghosts; they couldn’t escape now even if they grew wings. However, Cang Lan still felt uneasy. She worried those two might sneak a word to Yu Xuanji while she wasn’t looking, intentionally driving a wedge between them.
At this thought, alarm bells rang in Cang Lan’s heart. She quietly began to retract the dragon tail wound around Yu Xuanji’s waist, preparing to lift the covers and sneak out of bed. But the moment she moved, Yu Xuanji’s arms tightened around her waist, and she buried her face into Cang Lan’s chest.
Looking at how clingy Yu Xuanji was being, Cang Lan giggled foolishly and pulled her even closer. She instantly forgot her plan to go to the study and “assassinate” the two ghosts. Holding the warm, fragrant beauty in her arms, her lips curled into a happy smile as she blissfully closed her eyes.
As soon as Cang Lan’s eyes closed, the tension in Yu Xuanji’s brows gradually relaxed. After a long while, once she was certain Cang Lan was fast asleep, Yu Xuanji slowly opened her eyes and gazed at the dragon’s sleeping face with quiet, focused intensity.
The dragon tail wrapped tightly around her waist was impossible to ignore. Even when Xuanji merely rested her fingers on it, the tail would constrict tighter. If she wanted to leave without disturbing Cang Lan, she had to use other means to escape.
With a wisp of green smoke, Yu Xuanji’s soul left her body and drifted toward the study.
Inside the study, An Zhi and Ting Lan were huddled together with the Ginseng Baby, fast asleep. Ting Lan opened her eyes and met Yu Xuanji’s pale-colored gaze. “Master, why are you here?”
An Zhi, who was still sound asleep, was shaken awake by Ting Lan. “Wake up, Master is here.”
Yu Xuanji said calmly, “Remember this: if anyone asks, you are not to mention anything about the past. If A-Lan asks you something, say you don’t know, or find some other excuse to brush it off.”
The two replied in unison, “Yes.”
An Zhi tilted her head, asking curiously, “Master, is this black dragon the person you’ve been looking for all this time?”
Yu Xuanji’s expression turned cold, a sharp contrast to her usual gentle demeanor. “Have you already forgotten what I just said?”
An Zhi lowered her head. “Master, I know I was wrong. I definitely won’t be talkative.”
Yu Xuanji shifted her gaze to Ting Lan. “Ting Lan, watch over her.”
After everyone had settled back to sleep, the small sprout atop the Ginseng Baby’s head twitched twice. She opened her eyes, feeling completely bewildered by Yu Xuanji’s words, having no idea what they truly meant.
Yu Xuanji’s soul returned to her body. She opened her eyes, and as she faced Cang Lan, her gaze involuntarily softened. She pulled the dragon into a tighter embrace.
Early the next morning, Cang Lan scrambled out of bed to prepare food for Yu Xuanji.
Clanging and banging sounds echoed from the kitchen; one might have thought a fierce battle was taking place inside.
An Zhi and Ting Lan were originally playing hide-and-seek with the Ginseng Baby in the cave when they suddenly heard a distant explosion. They were terrified the cave was collapsing.
The two carried the Ginseng Baby to the kitchen, only to see the Dragon King, dressed in black, with her hair standing on end from the blast. Wisps of white smoke rose from her body as she stood frozen and stiff before the stove.
An Zhi whispered, “Is she cooking or manufacturing gunpowder?”
Ting Lan shook her head. “I don’t know, but it probably won’t taste very good.”
An Zhi sighed. “Our Master has been in the Great Desolation for so many days… what a hard life she’s leading.”
Cang Lan shot a sharp glare toward them, causing the three onlookers at the kitchen door to scatter in all directions. The Ginseng Baby asked worriedly, “I just saw Dragon-Dragon’s face turned black from the explosion. Could something be wrong?”
An Zhi replied, “What could go wrong? She’s not human; she can’t die.”
Yu Xuanji had still been sleeping. Cang Lan’s “dragon saliva” had tormented her for a long time the night before, and she had expected to be exhausted and unable to get out of bed the next day. To her surprise, she felt refreshed and full of vitality.
After lying in bed for a while, Yu Xuanji stretched and got up, wanting to see what was happening and why there were explosions in the Dragon Pond.
As expected, she caught the scent of burnt food. Without a second thought, she knew this was Cang Lan’s “masterpiece.”
Yu Xuanji reached the kitchen door just in time to see Cang Lan’s back. Her once-loose hair was now sticking out in every direction as if she’d been hit by a cannon.
Not knowing what had happened, Yu Xuanji asked, “A-Lan, are you alright?”
Cang Lan turned her head. Her entire face looked like it had been smeared with soot from the bottom of a pot. As soon as she opened her mouth, a puff of black smoke escaped. “Wife, I’m making breakfast for you.”
Yu Xuanji: “…”
In the end, the hard-won breakfast was finished by Yu Xuanji. After wiping Cang Lan’s face and smoothing out her messy hair, she put on an apron and made a plate of beautifully colored carrot pancakes.
Despite being blown up once, Cang Lan couldn’t stay still. Having nothing to do, she clung to Yu Xuanji’s side.
When Yu Xuanji chopped vegetables, Cang Lan hovered behind her. When Yu Xuanji kneaded the dough, Cang Lan would poke her fingers into it, leaving behind dense clusters of little pits. When Yu Xuanji fried the pancakes, Cang Lan would hug her waist from behind, resting her chin in the crook of Xuanji’s neck and occasionally stealing kisses from her cheek.
Standing outside the kitchen, An Zhi and Ting Lan watched this scene with their mouths agape, quietly backing away in disbelief.
The two crouched outside and stared at each other for a moment. An Zhi, being talkative, couldn’t help but whisper, “I’ve been by Master’s side for so many years, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen her smile like that. Have you?”
Ting Lan shook her head. “Me neither. But Master looks so gentle… turns out she has such a hidden side to her.”
As the two whispered head-to-head, Cang Lan emerged from the kitchen holding a pancake. She coughed behind them. “Hey, Xuanji told me to call you for dinner.”
An Zhi pulled Ting Lan up. Seeing them about to leave, Cang Lan called one of them back. “You there, this King has something to ask. You said you knew my wife—do you know what she did for a living outside?”
Ting Lan thought for a moment and said, “Master is an investor. An internationally renowned billionaire. Her net worth is beyond counting.”
Cang Lan listened in total confusion. She forgot to chew the pancake in her mouth and swallowed it whole; it got stuck in her throat, making her wince. She didn’t understand a single word this little ghost was saying; it sounded like she was being played.
Cang Lan asked tentatively, “Is that… very impressive?”
An Zhi tilted her head up proudly. “Of course! Master is the most amazing person I’ve ever met. My super ‘idol’!”
Cang Lan bit her lower lip. She knew Yu Xuanji was powerful, but she had no idea what kind of monster an “idol” pronounced ouxiang, sounding like “lotus-elephant” was. She feigned composure and said, “Oh, so that’s it. My wife is the most amazing person under heaven; I knew that even without you telling me.”
Ting Lan smiled. “The Great King is right.”
Cang Lan took a large, aggressive bite of her pancake, puffed out her chest proudly, and turned to leave. Once her back was to them, she secretly made a face.
The two watched Cang Lan enter the kitchen. An Zhi leaned in and said, “I feel like she’s such a bumpkin, pretending to know things she doesn’t.”
Ting Lan pinched An Zhi’s mouth and shook her head. “Don’t talk nonsense. The Great Desolation is a fierce place, like a primitive society. They say you become like those you’re around—the fact that she didn’t just eat Master right away means she’s a pretty good dragon.”
An Zhi tilted her head and muttered, “Fine, she is indeed much better than the other monsters we’ve seen.”
Just as Cang Lan entered the kitchen, Yu Xuanji came out carrying a plate of freshly fried carrot pancakes. They were golden, crispy, and fragrant, but Cang Lan was already half-full.
While Yu Xuanji had been frying them, Cang Lan had eaten them as soon as they came off the pan, downing four or five in the process.
Feeling helpless, Yu Xuanji had sent Cang Lan to find An Zhi and Ting Lan so she could use the time to finish the rest, otherwise, breakfast would have lasted until noon.
A porcelain plate full of carrot pancakes sat on the stone table. An Zhi and Ting Lan’s mouths watered, but they could only smack their lips in vain. This was the first time since their deaths that they had seen Yu Xuanji personally cook for them; they were beyond flattered.
An Zhi pouted pitifully. “Waaaah, Master, we can’t eat human food. We can only inhale the ‘qi’ of the food. In the end, the pancakes you made will just go to waste.”
Yu Xuanji gave a gentle smile. “It doesn’t matter; it’s just a different way of eating. You’ve come a long way to find me. The Great Desolation doesn’t compare to the outside world, and I have little to entertain you with. Please, make do with this.”
Cang Lan sat opposite Yu Xuanji and excitedly began the “pancake distribution” operation.
Yu Xuanji smiled. “A-Lan, I’m not very hungry.”
Cang Lan asked in confusion, “But you haven’t eaten anything since last night. Are you really not hungry?”
Yu Xuanji continued to smile. “Last night… you passed some things to me. Those things are more effective than any spiritual elixir. I’m not hungry at all now.”
Cang Lan blinked. Just as she was about to ask what “things,” she realized what Yu Xuanji was referring to. Her snowy-white cheeks were instantly stained with a deep flush.
An Zhi held her bowl and asked curiously, “What good things? Bring them out for us to— mmmph!”
Ting Lan squeezed An Zhi’s mouth shut and laughed. “She says she’s starving, hahahaha! Let’s start eating!”
Cang Lan coughed twice, blushing. To cover her embarrassment, she tapped her bowl with her chopsticks and began distributing the pancakes.
Yu Xuanji watched Cang Lan with a smile. “Let’s begin.”
Cang Lan gripped her chopsticks and first placed the top pancake in Yu Xuanji’s bowl. “One for Wife, one for me.”
Yu Xuanji nodded with a smile.
Cang Lan put the second pancake in Ting Lan’s bowl and the one beneath it in her own, smiling. “One for Ting Lan, one for me.”
Yu Xuanji helplessly pressed her lips together to hide her growing smile, pretending she hadn’t seen anything.
