- Chapter 27.1 - Soft, Rotten, and Sweet—Dragon Saliva is the World's Best Aphrodisiac.
Cang Lan had originally been lying with her back to Yu Xuanji, but the second she heard those words, she sat up abruptly right in front of her. Staring at the woman with a face full of bewilderment, she said, “I’m not capable? I can ascend to the heavens, enter the earth, summon the wind, and control the rain—I am omnipotent! How dare you say my body isn’t capable?”
Hearing this, Yu Xuanji knew Cang Lan had once again misunderstood her words. She propped herself up with her arms and let out a helpless smile. “That’s not what I meant.”
Cang Lan asked sullenly, “Then what does my Lady mean? My body is perfectly fine; there’s nothing wrong with me at all.”
Yu Xuanji said, “I didn’t say your body wasn’t good. My meaning was, as a normal living being, do you have no other worldly desires besides eating and sleeping?”
Cang Lan’s train of thought was quite peculiar compared to ordinary people; she precisely caught onto another unimportant word: “I’m not a human, I’m a dragon.”
Yu Xuanji smiled and said, “Fine, fine, fine. You are a dragon, the most beautiful dragon in this world. But what I want to say is, besides the desire for food, do you have no other desires in your body?”
Cang Lan froze for a moment. She stole a glance at Yu Xuanji’s chest, and both her ears instantly turned red, her cheeks flushing slightly warm.
Sensing Cang Lan’s reaction, Yu Xuanji finally gave a knowing smile. She reached out to grab Cang Lan’s wrist, stroking the back of her hand and palm, and asked, “Then what kind of feeling do you have for me right now? Do you have an impulse… a strong desire to possess me?”
These words were spoken so bluntly and suggestively that Cang Lan’s expression changed instantly. Her originally snow-white skin, which had been tinged with a faint pink, turned into a deep rouge color right before Yu Xuanji’s eyes.
Cang Lan stiffened her neck and stammered, “I… I…”
Yu Xuanji slowly curved her lips. Her palm gently pressed against Cang Lan’s lower abdomen, and she kneaded it twice with her fingers, saying, “A-Lan, don’t be nervous. This is human nature; you don’t need to be shy.”
Cang Lan held her breath. With Yu Xuanji’s gentle touch, the scales on her body began to grow back slowly, and the two dragon horns at her temples tried to break through her hair and sprout out.
Cang Lan grabbed Yu Xuanji’s wrist, looking like she was about to cry from the discomfort: “My Lady, stop touching… I… I feel a bit too comfortable.”
Yu Xuanji tilted her head in confusion. “Ah?”
Cang Lan whimpered and burrowed into the blankets, her voice hoarse and soft as she exposed only half of her head, speaking bashfully: “It’s all my Lady’s fault. My Lady’s touch is too comfortable. I want you to keep touching me like this forever and never let you sleep.”
Yu Xuanji sighed, stroked Cang Lan’s head, and smiled.
Late at night, Cang Lan fell asleep while holding Yu Xuanji.
The Mermaid Candle extinguished automatically, and a wisp of blue smoke rose slowly, circling in the air before drifting toward the two people on the bed.
Cang Lan let out a soft hum in her sleep, inhaling that wisp of blue smoke carrying a strange fragrance into her nose.
At this moment, Yu Xuanji opened her eyes. Staring at Cang Lan, who was holding her tightly, she slowly moved the small dragon’s arm that was draped across her waist.
Cang Lan’s grip was extremely tight; Yu Xuanji exerted a great deal of effort just to get that hand off her waist.
The hand was removed, but the dragon tail wrapped around her legs remained coiled tightly. Yu Xuanji moved only slightly and pinched the tip of the tail, causing the tail to tighten even more.
In helplessness, Yu Xuanji sighed, knowing that even if Cang Lan was asleep, she could not leave. The way Cang Lan clung to her in deep sleep seemed to have become muscle memory.
Yu Xuanji used the moonlight from the skylight to see Cang Lan’s face clearly. She slowly reached out a hand to stroke Cang Lan’s cheek.
Her fingertips touched carefully; Yu Xuanji held her breath, fearing that the moment she touched her, everything before her would prove to be a mere reflection in water or a flower in a mirror—shattering at a single touch.
As her fingertips met Cang Lan’s soft cheek, Yu Xuanji breathed a sigh of relief as if a heavy burden had been lifted, and she slowly drew closer to her.
Nose to nose, Yu Xuanji greedily inhaled the scent on Cang Lan’s body, a single crystal-clear, scalding tear silently falling from the corner of her eye.
The next morning, while Yu Xuanji was still sound asleep, Cang Lan slowly opened her eyes and yawned. She quietly tucked away the tail that had wrapped around the other for the whole night, lifted the quilt, and crept out on tiptoe.
Today was the tribute day that occurred once every three months. It was noisy and chirpy outside. Fearing the noise would wake the sleeping Yu Xuanji, Cang Lan waved her hand to set up a barrier, isolating the noise from the outside.
Cang Lan went outside the cave and saw Huang Liu and the others directing a group of small demons to move all the tribute items inside.
These were all rare treasures collected by the demon kings of other mountain peaks, mostly shiny night pearls and gemstones.
Cang Lan liked shiny things, so those mountain kings all catered to her preferences, sending items that were increasingly dazzling.
Huang Liu stood with hands on hips, commanding the small demons: “Handle everything with care! If you break these treasures, you’ll be held accountable.”
Seeing Cang Lan standing at the cave entrance, Huang Liu ran over with a flattering look, presented the ledger in her hands, and said with a smile, “Reporting to the Great King! Every mountain has delivered this month’s tribute in full. We subordinates have also counted them carefully. Please inspect them, Great King.”
Cang Lan flipped through the ledger casually and tossed it back to Huang Liu, then stepped down the stairs to look over these newly arrived treasures.
Soon, Cang Lan was attracted by one of the treasures. It was an all-green wolf-hair brush, and at the very tip, there was a cluster of light green sprouts, growing vividly out of the brush head.
Cang Lan studied the sprout curiously and poked it twice with her finger. The sprout seemed to come alive, trembling a few times and emitting a faint, weak green glow. It was truly interesting.
Cang Lan couldn’t wait to grab the brush, intending to take it back to show Yu Xuanji. Just as she turned around, she saw that Yu Xuanji had already walked out of the cave and was walking toward her with curiosity.
There were many small demons outside, most of them hairy. Cang Lan was afraid Yu Xuanji would take a liking to some small demon and stroke them incessantly, so she quickly went to her side and pushed Yu Xuanji back into the cave.
Bewildered, Yu Xuanji asked, “A-Lan, what are you doing?”
Cang Lan placed the brush into Yu Xuanji’s hand and said with a smile, “Don’t go out, my Lady. It’s full of demons out there, all looking crooked and ugly. I’m afraid you’ll be frightened.”
Yu Xuanji laughed, “Alright then. What is this you’ve stuffed into my hand again?”
She brought the wolf-hair brush before her eyes and her eyes lit up. She smiled and asked, “A-Lan, where did you get this brush from?”
Seeing that Yu Xuanji liked it, Cang Lan explained, “Didn’t I tell you a few days ago? The demon kings in the Barren Lands must pay tribute to me once every three months to pray for favorable weather. Today happens to be the tribute day; this brush was likely gifted by some demon king.”
Yu Xuanji toyed with the brush and asked with a smile, “Do you know what this brush is called?”
Cang Lan shook her head: “I don’t know. My Lady is well-read and knowledgeable; you must know its origin and name.”
Yu Xuanji held the brush, and without dipping it in ink, she wrote the character “Cang” in the air. The character seemed to come to life, floating in mid-air with a faint golden light.
Cang Lan had never seen such a magical treasure before. She touched it with her hand, and the character “Cang” instantly scattered and vanished without a trace.
Yu Xuanji said, “I’ve heard people mention before that there is a divine brush in this world called the Baize Brush, which can write the reincarnation of all things.”
Cang Lan said in surprise, “Really?”
Yu Xuanji smiled. “I don’t know. If this brush truly has such miraculous effects, wouldn’t the person who owns it be invincible in the world?”
The joy in Cang Lan’s eyes dimmed slightly. “So it’s just a lie.”
Seeing that Cang Lan was unhappy, Yu Xuanji asked, “A-Lan, what are you thinking about?”
Cang Lan could hide nothing from Yu Xuanji. She sighed and said, “My Lady, I was thinking that if this brush were really that powerful, I could write your lifespan, so we could be together forever and ever.”
Normally, Yu Xuanji never mentioned the topic of lifespan. Every time Cang Lan thought about it, she was anxious, but Yu Xuanji had no reaction at all, remaining indifferent to the matter.
Just as Cang Lan was falling into a state of endless regret and lamentation, Huang Liu walked over holding an exquisite wooden box, a mysterious smile playing on her lips.
Huang Liu respectfully held the wooden box above her head and said with a grin, “Great King, Madam, I just found something good.”
Cang Lan took the box and asked in confusion, “What good thing?”
Huang Liu’s face turned red for a second, and she dropped the box and fled: “Great King, see for yourself!”
Yu Xuanji was also curious about what it could be to make Huang Liu’s expression change like that, so she leaned her head in: “What’s inside?”
Cang Lan opened the box. Inside was an exquisitely crafted small jade bottle, tightly sealed with a wooden cork. Three characters were carved on the body of the bottle.
When Yu Xuanji saw those three characters clearly, she was stunned. Cang Lan, however, took out the small jade bottle and shook it twice, hearing a few crisp sounds. “My Lady, what is this thing?”
Seeing that Cang Lan was about to open the cork, Yu Xuanji quickly stopped her and said with a smile, “This is a type of… uh… longevity pill. Eating it can nourish spiritual power.”
Hearing this, Cang Lan wanted to open it even more. Ever since Yu Xuanji’s body began to improve, Cang Lan had been searching for every immortal herb and spiritual medicine in the Barren Lands that could extend life, refining them for Yu Xuanji to take.
Hearing that the small jade bottle contained something good for longevity, Cang Lan said with a smile, “My Lady, then hurry up and eat it!”
Yu Xuanji took the small jade bottle, put it back into the box, closed the lid, and locked it. She said, “Extending life is a good thing, but all medicine has a degree of toxicity; even the best spiritual medicine cannot be taken in excess at once. Besides, the pills you made for me aren’t finished yet. Let’s save this medicine for later. Who knows, the efficacy might become even stronger as it sits.”
Cang Lan nodded, thinking Yu Xuanji’s words made sense. “My Lady thinks of everything. I’ll put it away in a moment.”
Yu Xuanji said, “Alright, then hand it to me.”
Cang Lan shook her head. “How can I trouble my Lady? I can handle such a small matter.”
Yu Xuanji held the box and patted Cang Lan’s head twice. “Just give it to me. Being this idle every day is boring; I shouldn’t just do nothing.”
Reluctantly, Cang Lan handed the box to Yu Xuanji and said, “My Lady is being polite again. We are already married; naturally, I want you to be happy and leisurely every day.”
Yu Xuanji hadn’t expected Cang Lan to be unhappy over such a small thing. She held Cang Lan’s wrist and slowly pressed Cang Lan’s palm against her own chest, letting her feel her heartbeat.
Yu Xuanji smiled and said, “A-Lan, you said it yourself—we are already married. Therefore, you and I are one at all times and in all places. I also want to do things for you, rather than becoming a fragile porcelain doll. Do you understand what I mean?”
Cang Lan had not received much education over the years. Even with the guidance of Ming Huang, she remained quite wild. Her living habits and way of doing things were no different from the demons in the mountains. Before meeting Yu Xuanji, she was a great demon who “drank blood and ate raw meat.”
Seeing that Cang Lan seemed to understand her words, Yu Xuanji softened her voice a bit more, her fingers lightly resting on Cang Lan’s shoulder. “A-Lan, I know you feel sorry for me, but I also want to feel sorry for you.”
Tears seemed to glisten in Yu Xuanji’s eyes. She blinked, and her expression returned to her previous smiling face.
Cang Lan nodded, knowing she had done something wrong again and made Yu Xuanji unhappy. “My Lady, I understand. I won’t interfere with your work in the future.”
Yu Xuanji stroked Cang Lan’s hair again and smiled, “Mm, that’s my good girl.”
