- Chapter 26.2 - You’ll Bottle It Up Until You Break; Are You Perhaps... Not Capable?
Yu Xuanji asked again, “Then do you want to leave the Barren Lands?”
Cang Lan froze. Her mind went blank for a moment, her memory tracing back to the white-clothed woman who had cast her into the Barren Lands a thousand years ago. She nodded and said, “Yes, I want to go out and see the world outside, but…”
Yu Xuanji asked with a smile, “But what?”
Cang Lan spoke a clumsy line of sweet talk: “I want to be with you even more.”
As soon as she finished speaking, Cang Lan dove out of Yu Xuanji’s arms and pulled the quilt over her head, covering her face completely and wiggling around inside.
Cang Lan thought Yu Xuanji would reach in and fish her out. She hid inside for a long while, and when Yu Xuanji still didn’t come to catch her, she quietly pulled the quilt down, revealing only her two eyes.
As soon as her eyes were exposed, she met Yu Xuanji’s smiling gaze. Overcome with shyness and embarrassment, she dove back in.
Yu Xuanji propped her head with one hand, lying on her side. She looked helplessly at this childish little dragon and let out a silent sigh, pulling her out as Cang Lan wished.
Cang Lan dove back in, only to be easily fished out by Yu Xuanji. She dove in again and was caught by the back of her neck and pulled out once more.
The two went back and forth like this. Cang Lan found it quite interesting and pestered Yu Xuanji to play the game with her.
Yu Xuanji said with a smile, “I heard the Phoenix say you are nearly two thousand years old now. However, if converted to human age, it seems you aren’t even an adult yet.”
Cang Lan poked her head out from the covers, two dark, smooth dragon horns sprouting from her forehead. She rubbed them unhappily against Yu Xuanji’s hand and said, “The Old Phoenix is talking nonsense again. I’ve been an adult for a long time.”
Yu Xuanji added, “But she told me that you haven’t gone through your heat period yet, so you can’t be considered a fully grown dragon.”
Cang Lan stiffened her neck and told a random lie, “I went through it ages ago. The Old Phoenix talks nonsense all day, and she told you nonsense too. If I had known, I wouldn’t have let you spend time alone with her.”
As she spoke, Cang Lan noticed that Yu Xuanji’s gaze had begun to fixate on her. She touched her cheek and asked softly, “Wife, is there something on my face? Why are you looking at me like that?”
Yu Xuanji’s brow furrowed slightly as she asked, “You just said you went through your heat period alone, but the Phoenix told me that one must engage in dual cultivation to pass through that trial.”
In the space of a conversation, the person in her arms disappeared. Originally, Cang Lan had been hiding under the covers, lying on her stomach. In the blink of an eye, two snow-white long legs were dangling on the floor; Cang Lan had slipped out of the quilt like a cicada shedding its skin and practically bolted.
Having finally escaped the bedroom, Cang Lan reached the cave entrance, preparing to ride the clouds to Ming Huang’s house to cause a scene and make her shut her mouth so she wouldn’t talk nonsense to Yu Xuanji.
Before she could step out, Cang Lan saw a ball of white something rolling toward her with bounces and hops. She blinked her eyes.
Cang Lan looked closely; it was actually that Ginseng Baby she had tossed thousands of miles away a few days ago. Cang Lan had thought she had been eaten by demons, but to her surprise, she had returned in one piece.
The Ginseng Baby looked travel-worn, her hair was a mess, the color of her red bellyband had faded, and her whole body was covered in dust. As soon as she saw Cang Lan at the cave entrance, she dashed forward, tightly hugging Cang Lan’s thigh and starting to wail piteously, “Waaaaah! Dragon-dragon! I’m finally back!”
Cang Lan stomped her foot with a look of disgust, preparing to shake her off. Unexpectedly, the little spirit held on so tightly that she couldn’t be shaken off.
Fearing that the Ginseng Baby’s crying would be heard by Yu Xuanji, who might then insist on letting her stay, Cang Lan quickly covered her mouth and warned in a low voice, “Don’t make a sound!”
Just as she was preparing to toss her out again, Yu Xuanji’s voice came from behind: “A-Lan, who is that crying?”
Yu Xuanji, draped in Cang Lan’s outer robe, came to the cave entrance. Seeing Cang Lan standing stiffly with her hands behind her back, she asked, “Who is crying?”
Cang Lan shook her head and said, “No one. No one is outside.”
Behind her, the two wilted sprouts on top of the Ginseng Baby’s head swayed. Yu Xuanji smiled helplessly. “A-Lan, let go. Release it.”
Cang Lan muttered unhappily, “Wife really has X-ray vision. I hid her so well, and yet you could still see.”
The Ginseng Baby sat on the ground covered in dirt, her tears washing away the black soot on her face. Originally white and chubby, she had turned into a black coal ball. Upon seeing Yu Xuanji, her mouth split open almost to her ears in a grin.
The Ginseng Baby rushed toward Yu Xuanji while crying, “Wooooh Xuanji! I missed you so much!”
Seeing her waving her dirty little hands to pounce, Cang Lan quickly blocked her from Yu Xuanji, pressing down on her head with a claw in disgust: “You’re not allowed to touch my Wife, you’re too dirty.”
A stream of clear water poured down, washing the Ginseng Baby clean. After receiving nourishment from Cang Lan’s spiritual energy, the wilted little yellow sprouts on her head turned green and stood tall.
Cang Lan grabbed the Ginseng Baby by the back of her neck and tossed her back into the study. The little nest in the corner was still there, and the Ginseng Baby crawled in, clutching her little quilt.
Yu Xuanji sat beside her, reaching out to pat her little head. When Cang Lan saw Yu Xuanji patting her again, she immediately felt another stomach full of annoyance.
The Ginseng Baby rubbed her eyes, the sprout on her head trembling with her movements. She said in a childish voice, “Xuanji, I was so scared. A few days ago, I woke up and found myself in a great mountain. I don’t even know how I got there.”
As she spoke, she started wailing again, “The mountain was full of beasts and demons. Luckily, I ran fast, otherwise I wouldn’t even have bone scraps left by now, woooooh!”
Yu Xuanji and Cang Lan exchanged a look. Yu Xuanji patted her head to coax her, saying, “It’s good that you’re back.”
Cang Lan said with a straight face, “You were sleepwalking and ran into the deep forest yourself.”
Upon hearing this, the Ginseng Baby put down her little pillow and hugged Cang Lan’s arm affectionately.
Cang Lan didn’t like her at all, but she couldn’t shake her off. She was afraid that a single forceful slap would flatten her, and Yu Xuanji would blame her, so she had no choice but to let her hug her.
The Ginseng Baby continuously absorbed the abundant spiritual energy from Cang Lan’s body, feeling much more at ease. She said, “When I was fighting those demons, I kept thinking of Dragon-dragon. I’ve seen Dragon-dragon fight demons—she was so heroic and cool! I just learned a tiny bit of it, and unexpectedly, those demons were scared away by a wave of my hand!”
Yu Xuanji’s lips curved. Cang Lan understood and whispered in her ear, “This little spirit carries my spiritual energy. Even thousand-year-old demons would give her a wide berth, let alone those beasts that haven’t even attained human form.”
Being hugged by the Ginseng Baby like this, Cang Lan felt awkward no matter how she looked at it. She grabbed her by the back of the neck, preparing to toss her back crudely.
Matching Yu Xuanji’s gaze, Cang Lan flashed her a smile and used every ounce of her willpower to gently place the Ginseng Baby on the small bed, even tucking her in.
After a while, Cang Lan heard the Ginseng Baby looking at Yu Xuanji expectantly, saying, “So I actually sleepwalk? That’s too scary. I don’t dare sleep alone anymore.”
Cang Lan perceived the Ginseng Baby’s intention and nipped the idea of her sleeping in the bedroom in the bud. She said, “Simple. When you fall asleep, this King will tie you up with a rope. That way, you won’t be able to run.”
Yu Xuanji smiled helplessly, but the Ginseng Baby hopped around happily and said, “Dragon-dragon is so smart!”
Cang Lan coaxed Yu Xuanji back to the bedroom to sleep first, then pulled a bundle of red rope from her robes.
This bundle of red rope was actually the “Immortal Binding Cord” she had swiped from Ming Huang’s alchemy room today. This cord was personally refined by the Old Phoenix; it could shrink or expand to any size, and once it hit its mark, the victim couldn’t escape even to the ends of the earth, and all their power would be sealed away.
Cang Lan twirled the cord around her fingers and tied the Ginseng Baby up tightly.
After finishing all this, Cang Lan stood up and brushed the dust off her hands, pointing at the Ginseng Baby: “You stay right here for this King. Also, from now on, you are not allowed to get close to my Wife. If I catch you even once, I won’t let you absorb my spiritual energy, and you can forget about ever growing up!”
Returning to the bedroom, Cang Lan resumed a proper smile, but her mind was still on that Ginseng Baby.
Little brats are so annoying, truly irritating to death!
In the future, if I have a little dragon cub with my Wife, it definitely won’t be like that!
At the thought of having a dragon cub, Cang Lan’s face heated up. She shyly licked her lips, longing to throw herself into Yu Xuanji’s embrace.
Yu Xuanji had already lain down. She was wearing soft shark-silk pajamas, her back to the bedroom door.
Cang Lan took two deep breaths and impatiently lifted the quilt to dive in, smoothly embracing Yu Xuanji from behind.
Yu Xuanji wasn’t asleep. Being held tightly around the waist by Cang Lan, she actually felt a bit constricted for a moment. Sometimes this little dragon didn’t know her own strength, and she always liked to hug her secretly from behind, launching a “sneak attack” from time to time.
However, after so many days of sudden attacks, Yu Xuanji had already grown accustomed to it. She stroked Cang Lan’s soft, warm fingers and asked with a smile, “Is everything settled?”
Cang Lan nodded, her lips pressed against the back of Yu Xuanji’s neck, nuzzling incessantly behind her ear. First with her nose, then with her lips, the nuzzling made Yu Xuanji feel itchy all over.
Yu Xuanji tried to move away slightly, but Cang Lan held her even tighter, using her tail to wrap firmly around her legs to prevent her from escaping. She murmured intermittently, “Wife… Wife, Wife, Wife…”
Yu Xuanji was held so closely she couldn’t escape, so she could only ask, “What is it? Is there something making you unhappy?”
Cang Lan held her from behind, her chest pressed against Yu Xuanji’s back. After nuzzling for a while in restless longing, she said, “I’m not unhappy. I’m just too happy, and when I’m happy, I want to hold you. Wife is so fragrant and soft. Don’t hide, let me hold you more. I don’t want to be apart from you.”
Yu Xuanji arched her back, unable to move at all. She was held so tightly by Cang Lan that even the gaps between her fingers were filled by Cang Lan’s fingers. Her entire body was immobilized, save for her eyes and mouth.
Yu Xuanji heard herself say, “If you just want to hold me… besides holding me, there are actually many other things we can do.”
“Many things?” Cang Lan was utterly perplexed. Wrapping her tail around Yu Xuanji’s legs wasn’t enough, so she pressed a long leg over her as well. She couldn’t help asking, “What other things are there?”
Yu Xuanji closed her eyes. After thinking it over, she let out a sigh. “Many, many things. If you don’t know how, I can teach you.”
Cang Lan giggled and kissed Yu Xuanji’s ear, saying, “Wife is so good. Wife knows so much. Then Wife should teach me more. I want to make Wife happy too.”
Although they were holding each other in an inseparable intimacy, Yu Xuanji’s heart always felt a bit empty. Her physical longing and impulses had grown even stronger as time passed.
Yu Xuanji knew that the little dragon behind her hadn’t “awakened” yet. Her mind held no thoughts beyond nuzzling and clinging. But they couldn’t go on like this forever; eventually, she would bottle it up until she broke.
Yu Xuanji asked tentatively, “A-Lan, do you know how to pass through this heat period?”
Cang Lan shook her head and said with a face full of pride, “The Old Phoenix said before that to pass the heat period, one must find a Wife. Now that I have a Wife, the heat period should be over soon, right?”
Yu Xuanji let out a helpless laugh. “That is certainly far from enough. How could a heat period end so simply? Didn’t you say a few days ago that a dragon’s heat lasts for a full month? Why is there no sign of movement now?”
Cang Lan stared at Yu Xuanji’s earlobe and licked her lips. “I… I don’t know.”
Full of vigor, young and powerful, heart and mind racing, plus the catalyst of the heat period—even if a rock had attained spirit form, the “raw rice” should have been “cooked” long ago. How could she still have no other thoughts even now?
Yu Xuanji furrowed her brow, her expression becoming slightly odd. She let out a sigh, hesitated, and then gathered her courage to say, “A-Lan, tell me the truth. Is your body… perhaps not quite capable?”
