- Chapter 26.1 - You’ll Bottle It Up Until You Break; Are You Perhaps... Not Capable?
Inside the hot spring cave, the only sounds to be heard were the pitter-patter of dripping water and the gurgling of bubbles rising from the spring.
After Cang Lan finished saying those words, she dove into the water with a guilty expression. A string of bubbles rose from the surface where she had submerged.
Yu Xuanji leaned against the smooth, warm stone wall. She stared at the clusters of bubbles on the water’s surface, the corners of her lips curving upward.
After soaking in the hot spring for over two hours, Cang Lan finally poked her head out of the water. She was taking large gulps of fresh air when she turned her head and met Yu Xuanji’s deep, soulful eyes.
Cang Lan was flushed pink and tender from head to toe from the soak. Upon meeting Yu Xuanji’s gaze, she frantically prepared to sink back down, but she was caught by the back of her neck by Yu Xuanji’s hand.
Cang Lan’s most vulnerable spot was the back of her neck. With that gentle pinch from Yu Xuanji, she found herself completely drained of her magical power. She slumped back limply, the last of the Black Dragon King’s majestic dignity vanishing into thin air.
Yu Xuanji easily lifted the little dragon, who had been soaked soft by the warm water. Unable to stifle a laugh, she asked, “A-Lan, where are you going now? Now that we’re finished washing, let’s head ashore.”
Cang Lan nodded dizzily, completely overlooking the fact that the supposedly powerless Yu Xuanji was able to lift her up so effortlessly.
Once they reached the shore, Cang Lan tightly covered her chest with both hands, hunching her shoulders and lowering her head in a futile attempt to hide certain things.
The pitch-black dragon tail behind her was still drooping by her feet; Cang Lan had forgotten to tuck it away. As soon as she looked up, she noticed Yu Xuanji’s gaze resting near her feet. Following that gaze, Cang Lan flinched in shock, her tail standing straight up.
Cang Lan prepared to quietly retract her tail, but at that moment, Yu Xuanji moved closer. One of her hands moved to Cang Lan’s back, gently grasping the dragon tail that was roughly as thick as a palm.
Cang Lan stiffened her neck, grabbing a nearby garment to cover her body while simultaneously tossing the towel hanging on the screen to Yu Xuanji.
Seeing that Yu Xuanji didn’t bother to cover herself at all, standing there boldly before her with her body still wet, Cang Lan felt an inexplicable itch in her heart.
In a moment of wandering thoughts, Cang Lan forgot that her tail was still in Yu Xuanji’s hand. Her tail was quite sensitive, especially the very tip.
At the tip of the dragon’s tail was a tuft of dark, silky mane, which was now damp from the water.
Yu Xuanji helped wipe the wet tail. As she was being touched, Cang Lan’s mind began to stray; her gaze was drawn to Yu Xuanji’s chest, and she stared blankly for a long while.
Yu Xuanji caught Cang Lan’s gaze out of the corner of her eye. She slowly curled half of her lips, her deep eyes flickering with a meaningful look.
Cang Lan said bashfully, “Wife, there’s no need to wipe my tail. I’ll just retract it.”
But Yu Xuanji replied, “I’ve already been wiping it for a while, let me finish drying it for you.”
Cang Lan felt a bit happy in her heart. She lightly wagged the tip of her tail twice, using the tip to hook around Yu Xuanji’s wrist, slowly winding itself upward.
With Yu Xuanji’s left wrist entwined, she used two fingers to gently rub the scales that had been softened by the soak.
A wave of itchiness hit her, and the tail wrapped around Yu Xuanji’s wrist gradually tightened. The tip of Cang Lan’s tail tapped dissatisfiedly against her forearm as she said, “Wife, it itches.”
Yu Xuanji took a deep breath and said, “It will be over soon.”
Cang Lan sat huddled on the ground, cradling her face in both hands, trying to control her tail.
Yu Xuanji used the towel to wipe the black mane on the tail. Before it was even dry, Cang Lan flicked it to the left. When Yu Xuanji grabbed the tail to continue, the flexible tip swished back in an instant.
Cang Lan let out a muffled giggle. The next second, the tip of her tail was caught again, and she received a light smack on her lower back.
Yu Xuanji pursed her lips to hide a smile. As she wiped, Cang Lan leaned in, wrapping herself in Yu Xuanji’s clothes and rubbing her bottom before angrily biting down on the other’s wrist.
Cang Lan’s teeth were sharp and keen; countless great demons had been torn to shreds by those claws and fangs.
The skin on the wrist was being fiercely rubbed by those rows of fine, dense teeth. Cang Lan had a fierce expression, her sharp dragon claws tightly gripping Yu Xuanji’s arm—claws so sharp they could cut through iron as if it were mud.
Yu Xuanji looked at her helplessly. The patch of skin being gnawed on by Cang Lan felt tingly and itchy. Her wrist was covered in dragon saliva, leaving several faint red tooth marks behind.
Once the sharp dragon claws were borne, they were retracted again. Cang Lan gnawed on Yu Xuanji’s wrist for quite a while. Seeing that she hadn’t even broken the skin but had instead left red marks from sucking, she stopped.
The tail was dry, and the wrist had been “eaten.” Cang Lan wrapped her clothes tightly and quickly retracted her tail. When Yu Xuanji turned around, Cang Lan had already dressed—except she was wearing Yu Xuanji’s clothes.
Yu Xuanji and Cang Lan were of similar stature; standing together, they were at eye level and roughly the same height, so Yu Xuanji’s clothes fit Cang Lan quite well.
Cang Lan’s own clothes were still soaking in the hot spring. She flicked her finger toward the soaking wet garments, and the black robe dried instantly. She had put on clothes, but Yu Xuanji was only draped in a soft cloth, her long legs and arms exposed.
Cang Lan, barefoot, draped the black robe transformed from dragon scales over Yu Xuanji’s shoulders. She pulled Yu Xuanji into her arms and, with a turn, carried her to the bedroom.
The water on Yu Xuanji’s body dried rapidly, and her once-damp hair also became dry, spreading across her back like a dark waterfall.
Cang Lan lifted the quilt and tucked Yu Xuanji inside, tossing those two “ill omens” (bra) onto the bed along with her.
Yu Xuanji looked at the two handmade bras. Sensing that Cang Lan seemed a bit disdainful of them, she propped herself up with one arm and couldn’t help but ask, “A-Lan, do you not like these that I made for you?”
Cang Lan’s ears turned slightly red as she said awkwardly, “It’s not that I don’t like them, it’s just that the name of this thing is truly too unpleasant. Why must it be called an ‘ill omen’ (xiong zhao)? It’s so inauspicious. I demand that the person who invented this thing change its name.”
As soon as Yu Xuanji heard Cang Lan’s words, she knew the little dragon had misunderstood. She asked with a smile, “Then what would you like to change it to?”
Cang Lan said, “A lucky omen (ji zhao).”
Late at night, the cave was cozy and warm. The air was filled with the faint, warm fragrance of burning mermaid candles.
The scent of the mermaid candles was certainly pleasant, but what Cang Lan loved most was the scent on Yu Xuanji’s body. With Yu Xuanji not wearing clothes and being held in Cang Lan’s arms, her nose was filled with the other’s warm fragrance, which smelled even better than flowers.
Cang Lan secretly handed the two bras to Yu Xuanji and said, “Wife, didn’t you say this thing is like a bellyband, and if you wear it, you don’t need a bellyband? Then should we wear it when we sleep?”
Yu Xuanji shook her head. “No need to wear it for sleep. Just put it on before going out during the day.”
Cang Lan happily held a white one against her chest, incredibly joyful. She hugged Yu Xuanji tightly and said boastfully, “In all of the Barren Lands, only my Wife knows how to make clothes for me. Those demons will surely be green with envy. I’m going to wear it out to show off and let them know how well my Wife treats me.”
Yu Xuanji’s eyes widened, and she quickly shook her head. “This bra is worn on the inside. You must not let other demons see it, nor are you allowed to just expose it.”
Cang Lan looked puzzled. “But if that’s the case, they won’t know you made new clothes for me. How can I go out and show off then?”
Yu Xuanji sighed and said with great solemnity, “These things can only be seen by the person you are most intimate with.”
Cang Lan suddenly understood. “I see. Then I will only show it to my Wife in the future.”
Yu Xuanji curled her lips and nodded. “Yes, only I can see it. Because I am the person you love most, you can only show it to me.”
But soon, Cang Lan noticed that Yu Xuanji’s expression became somewhat troubled, and her brow slowly furrowed. She tried to smooth it with her hand, but her wrist was caught by Yu Xuanji.
Yu Xuanji asked, “Before you met me, did you ever show it to anyone else?”
Cang Lan shook her head blankly. “No.”
Yu Xuanji pressed, “Truly?”
Cang Lan shook her head vigorously. “Really, no! I swear!”
Seeing that Yu Xuanji seemed to breathe a sigh of relief, Cang Lan licked her lips and whispered softly, “Wife, I really haven’t. You have to believe me.”
After a moment, Yu Xuanji asked, “Then… before me, did you have any other lovers?”
Cang Lan was baffled by Yu Xuanji’s words. She froze for a moment, then raised three fingers to swear to the heavens, “Never! If I have deceived my Wife, may I be struck by five thunders and lightning!”
Yu Xuanji covered her mouth and shook her head at her. “Words can easily become reality; do not say such things.”
Cang Lan’s lips were pressed against Yu Xuanji’s palm. she secretly moved forward a bit, her lips pressing right against it.
Yu Xuanji exchanged a glance with her. Cang Lan blinked innocently and nodded, indicating she understood and wouldn’t say such nonsense again.
When the hand was moved away, Cang Lan actually felt a bit lingering. Yu Xuanji’s body temperature seemed to remain on her lips, and a faint fragrance lingered around her nose.
Cang Lan couldn’t understand why Yu Xuanji’s body was so fragrant. Could she be a flower spirit?
The more she thought about it, the more perplexed she became. Cang Lan leaned closer to Yu Xuanji, sniffing her chin, neck, behind her ears, and the back of her neck.
Fragrant, very pleasant.
Yu Xuanji’s neck felt itchy from Cang Lan’s warm breath. She asked with a smile, “A-Lan, what are you sniffing?”
Cang Lan held Yu Xuanji’s hand and said with a grin, “Wife smells so good. I was wondering if you might be a flower fairy from the heavens.”
As she spoke, Cang Lan let out a sigh and said, “But if you were a fairy, that would be great. That way, I wouldn’t have to go through so much trouble to seek a method for longevity.”
Cang Lan had unexpectedly blurted out the secret in her heart to Yu Xuanji. When she met Yu Xuanji’s confused eyes, she realized too late that she had misspoken. “Wife, I…”
Yu Xuanji cupped Cang Lan’s face in both hands and asked, “What are you seeking a longevity method for?”
Cang Lan bit her lower lip. “Wife, I am a dragon. My lifespan is infinite; I will not age, nor will I die. But…”
Seeing the little dragon hang her head in dejection, Yu Xuanji smiled and said, “Is it because I am a human, and you fear I will leave this world before you?”
Cang Lan nodded, leaning into Yu Xuanji’s embrace and sobbing softly, “Wife, I heard the Old Phoenix say that the dragon race has a heart-protecting scale. It grows over the heart, and the possessor can live forever, as long-lived as the heavens and earth.”
Cang Lan rubbed her chest area forcefully and said, “But no matter how I look, I can’t find that heart-protecting scale. I asked the Old Phoenix before, and she said perhaps I dropped it outside. I wanted to go out and look for it, but the barrier of the Barren Lands requires external power to open. I can’t get out.”
She sometimes thought that if Yu Xuanji regained her memory, she might be able to find a way out of the Barren Lands. But once Yu Xuanji regained her memory and realized she had been deceived, she would surely hate her to death.
Cang Lan glanced guiltily at Yu Xuanji and whispered with her head down, “I want to find the heart-protecting scale for you, so I can be with you forever. But I’m so stupid; I actually lost it.”
Yu Xuanji stroked the top of Cang Lan’s head and comforted her gently, “A-Lan, it’s alright. If it can’t be found… then let it be.”
Cang Lan struggled to climb out of Yu Xuanji’s arms, staring intently into her eyes. “As long as there is a sliver of hope, I will find it even if I have to risk half my life.”
