- The Alpha Who Played Me Has Re-Differentiated Into a Delicate Omega
- Chapter 1 - Your Name
The deep red carpet beneath her feet was soft, sinking with every step. A faint scent of perfume drifted into her nose. The young Deputy Chief furrowed her brow, unable to understand why someone would choose to commit a crime in a place with absolutely no room for retreat.
Pulling a laser blade from her pocket and hiding it behind her back, Jiao Jin knocked on the door of Room 1823. The wooden material made the sound dull, much like her slightly tight voice: “Hello, housekeeping. May I come in?”
She could have chosen to break the door down, but she feared the kidnap victim might turn into a corpse.
“Not necessary.”
The man’s voice was strangely familiar. She couldn’t place who it was, but Jiao Jin was certain she had heard him speak before.
Her sharp, imposing brows drew tight. Her keen sixth sense told her the person inside was approaching the door. Without a moment’s hesitation, Jiao Jin sliced through the wooden door with her laser blade. In the next second, she released the pheromone pressure of a high-level Alpha.
The kneeling male Omega instantly entered heat, restrained to the bathroom by custom handcuffs. Jiao Jin kicked aside his writhing body and headed further into the room to find the victim.
On the pure white bedsheets, a woman’s ink-black hair was scattered like seaweed. Her torn dress failed to cover her, revealing a slender, porcelain waist. Her body was marked with several bloodstains, appearing as though she had been subjected to extreme abuse.
Jiao Jin felt a similar sense of familiarity when she saw the woman’s slightly tilted chin and pale lips, but there was no time to dwell on it. She opened the communicator on her wrist, ordering her subordinates to handle the cleanup while she took the woman to the hospital first.
She hooked her arm under the woman’s knees to lift her, but as she looked down, she saw delicate collarbones and the curve of her chest. With no pheromones present, she couldn’t determine the person’s gender. Jiao Jin took off her jacket anyway and wrapped it around the woman’s fragile, glass thin frame.
However, upon arriving at the affiliated hospital, she finally realized who she had saved.
As she watched the nurse wipe away the blood, Jiao Jin found the woman more and more familiar. This was a body she had once seen trembling with light sweat on a bed, specifically the scar on the neck, which she remembered biting into with ferocity on their final night together.
“Cui Yu?”
She hadn’t been certain, but once the hair matted against the woman’s face was cleared away, her brilliant features, though pale, remained sharp and striking. Her brows were slightly arched, in Jiao Jin’s memory, she was always cold and arrogant, possessing the air of a dignified eldest daughter. Even now, she looked as if she were merely closing her eyes in a languid manner, impossible to ignore.
“Deputy Chief Jiao, do you know her?”
Though she held a high military rank, Jiao Jin was a frequent patient due to her injuries and had a grounded personality, so most of the doctors and nurses knew her. However, it was normal that they didn’t recognize a high and mighty woman like Cui Yu.
With an ambiguous smile, Jiao Jin said, “I know her. She’s my enemy.”
“Huh? Then why did you save her?”
“I didn’t know it was her before I did.”
Jiao Jin sighed inwardly, knowing her own temperament all too well. Even if she had known it was Cui Yu, she still would have stepped in.
“Then this payment slip…”
“I’ll pay it.”
Taking the slip, Jiao Jin signed the name “Cui Yu” in sharp handwriting. As she checked the diagnosis while taking the elevator to the second floor to pay, she froze. Why was the gender column marked as Omega?!
In her memory, this woman was always proud, refined, and unrestrained, like the most vibrant rose, beautiful but guarded by sharp thorns that made her unapproachable.
Returning to the inpatient department, Jiao Jin sought out the attending physician. “Hello, I know this patient. She should be an Alpha, right? Are you sure there wasn’t an error in the pheromone extraction?”
Hearing this, the woman looked up. The badge on her chest read “Cui Peining.” She looked back coldly. “Do you think you know my sister’s gender better than I do?”
“Peining? Why are you here?”
“Deputy Chief Jiao is a busy woman, of course you wouldn’t know I’m stationed at this hospital. But don’t call me that. From the moment you and my sister broke up, you should call me Doctor Cui.”
“Fine, Dr. Cui. I want to know how your sister became an Omega.”
“None of your business.”
Jiao Jin nodded helplessly. Knowing the two daughters of the Cui family were equally proud, she placed the payment slip on Cui Peining’s desk and said calmly, “Since she’s your sister, reimburse me for the medical fees. You know my account.”
“Hmph, as if anyone wants to owe you anything!”
Jiao Jin left the office without hesitation. She had intended to leave immediately, but due to her job, she still needed to take a statement from Cui Yu. She took a long breath and decided she would treat herself to her favorite BBQ after work today.
She couldn’t help it, the women of the Cui family were just too good at making her angry.
Returning to Cui Yu’s ward, the door opened to reveal a pair of innocent, clear eyes, a brightness Jiao Jin had never seen before. Jiao Jin frowned, her sixth sense screaming that something was wrong.
But before she could process why those eyes, usually held high with arrogance, were suddenly soft and warm, a pair of arms wrapped around her waist. A soft, thin body pressed against her, and a few strands of hair brushed against her neck, causing a slight itch.
“Hey!”
Substitutively struggling, Jiao Jin felt goosebumps rise over her skin. She pushed away the currently frail woman, only to witness something she never imagined in her wildest dreams: Cui Yu crying.
Her eyes were shimmering, mist gathering in her dark pupils. Like a child, she began to cry with extreme grievance. Cui Yu fought the soreness in her throat and chest, but her voice was an undeniable sob: “Do… do you not want me anymore?”
“What do you mean ‘want’ or ‘not want’? Cui Yu, act normal.”
Jiao Jin brushed off the spot where she had been hugged with a look of disgust. She felt no sympathy for the fragile woman on the floor, but out of politeness, she reached out her hand, though her face remained impatient. “Get up quickly. People will say I’m bullying you if they see this.”
“You are bullying me!”
Jiao Jin felt like the world was turning upside down. Cui Yu was five years older than her, how was she acting so childishly and accusing Jiao Jin of bullying?
“Cui Yu, did someone knock the sense out of your head? Do you even know who I am?”
While their relationship wasn’t quite that of hateful enemies, they certainly weren’t close enough for such intimate, coquettish lines. Seeing the woman didn’t want to get up, Jiao Jin retracted her hand and said coldly, “If you’re trying your old tricks again, I’m not falling for it.”
Tears swirled in Cui Yu’s eyes, looking wet and lost. She didn’t seem to understand what was being said. With an air of extreme delicacy, she looked up and said, “Help me up.”
“Cui Yu, stop playing dumb with me.”
“I’m not playing dumb…”
The grievance returned. She just wanted this person to give her a hand, why was she being scolded again?
Wiping away the moisture with her hand, Cui Yu struggled to stand on her own. Her gaze was naive and ignorant, her voice trembling. “Aren’t you someone very important to me?”
“Important?”
Jiao Jin laughed sarcastically, thinking back to the time she had been toyed with. She nodded. “Of course you’re important. Without me, your life would probably be very dull, wouldn’t it?”
“If my life would be dull without you, shouldn’t we be friends? Or lovers?”
Perhaps triggered by the latter suggestion, Jiao Jin suddenly leaned in close. Her taller frame cast a shadow over Cui Yu. Though she had soft, affectionate peach-blossom eyes, they were currently frozen over, piercingly cold. “Cui Yu, what kind of trick are you playing now?”
“I… I’m not playing any tricks.”
Stepping back bit by bit until she sat on the hospital bed, her eyes grew redder. Her entire being radiated unease. Restraining the tremor in her voice, Cui Yu said, “I’m sorry, I don’t remember anything. But you were the first person I saw when I woke up. Aren’t you someone important to me?”
“Three years later, and your acting skills have certainly improved.”
Speaking with biting sarcasm, Jiao Jin leaned against the door. She looked at the shivering woman’s translucent skin and the flush on her cheeks from crying. The blue veins on her neck looked incredibly fragile. It was clearly the same person, yet the high and mighty socialite of her memory was actually acting this obedient and weak in front of her?
Did she think this would make Jiao Jin feel sorry for her?
How laughable.
“I’m not lying.”
Her voice grew lower and strangely tight, as if she were losing her voice. Cui Yu cried even harder, but it was like the whimpering of a kitten, if one didn’t listen closely, they wouldn’t hear her suppressed sobs.
There was no denying that a once refined rose becoming so pitiful would make anyone’s heart soften. Jiao Jin hesitated for a moment and asked, “Cui Yu, do you really remember nothing?”
The misty, water filled eyes suddenly lit up like a starry night sky, bright and brilliant. It was as if the woman had finally been believed, she radiated a faint sense of anticipation. “You believe me? I really don’t remember. My name is Cui Yu, right? Then, what is your name?”
“Your name isn’t Cui Yu. It’s Cuidua (Green Flower).”
“Huh?”
The woman’s look of surprise and distaste didn’t seem fake, it seemed she really believed every word Jiao Jin said, even a rustic, made-up name. Jiao Jin shook her head helplessly. “Just kidding. Your name is Cui Yu.”
“And you? I want to know your name.”
The way she watched Jiao Jin was incredibly endearing. Suddenly caught in the “beauty trap,” Jiao Jin naturally replied, “My name is Jiao Jin. Jiao as in charred, Jin as in ashes.”
“Why do you introduce yourself like that? It should be Jiao as in focus, and Jin as in the end of a flower’s bloom.”
Cui Yu pursed her lips, looking serious and firm. They were the same two characters, but by using different words to describe them, the meaning seemed to change entirely. Jiao Jin lowered her head and opened the screen on her wrist, her voice feigning coldness. “It doesn’t matter how you phrase it. Now, let’s take a statement. Let’s see what else you remember.”
