The Aloof Omega Caught the Eye of a Clingy Sweetheart - Chapter 23
Jian Qiuyi was slightly taken aback by the words but remained silent, her gaze fixed on You Song, her eyes filled with deep, unspoken emotions.
Working until this hour would wear out even the toughest person.
“The free buffet is probably over by now. Should we go downstairs to eat at the nearby restaurant or order takeout?” Zhang Zi asked, though she had already taken out her phone.
“I’m too tired today and don’t feel like going downstairs. Just order something simple,” You Song replied, leaning back on the sofa and massaging her temples.
Clearly, the two of them had settled for meals like this more than once, so Jian Qiuyi didn’t interject. Like a dutiful assistant, she began tidying up the scattered items on the table.
Dinner arrived quickly. Zhang Zi had ordered four dishes, a soup, and three servings of rice. She placed a plate of sweet and sour pork ribs in front of You Song and said with a smile, “I ordered this especially for you, knowing you have a sweet tooth.”
“Thank you, Director Zhang,” You Song said without hesitation, opening the lid of her rice container. “How are we splitting the bill? Is Director Zhang treating us, or are we going Dutch?”
“Director You, you’re being too formal,” Zhang Zi replied with a grin. “Of course, it’s my treat.”
Watching the two of them flirt shamelessly, Jian Qiuyi found it hard to stomach her food.
Weren’t they all business during work? How could they switch to this casual banter the moment work was over???
Jian Qiuyi was seething with jealousy, and her appetite had vanished. Having already passed the point of hunger, she seized the moment Zhang Zi put down her chopsticks to hastily make up an excuse and shoo her away.
Zhang Zi, being perceptive, understood the situation perfectly. She glanced at the two of them with a knowing smile before turning to leave.
Only after Zhang Zi was gone did You Song shoot Jian Qiuyi a look. “What was that about? Why did you chase her away?”
“What, should I have let her stay the night with you instead?” Jian Qiuyi retorted.
Her words made You Song frown deeply. She set down her bowl and chopsticks, looking up at Jian Qiuyi. “Do you always have to speak like that?”
“What’s wrong with how I speak?” Jian Qiuyi crossed her arms, clearly displeased.
“Director Zhang is our company’s business partner. She made significant concessions for this collaboration, and despite you constantly targeting her, she’s never held it against you.” You Song fixed Jian Qiuyi with a stern glare. “You’re going to take over the company someday. Building good relationships with people like Director Zhang is essential.”
The scolding gave Jian Qiuyi a headache. She glared at You Song resentfully before muttering, “That Zhang Zi keeps touching you. How could I just stand by?”
You Song rubbed her temples in exasperation. “Director Zhang has a flirty way of speaking, but when has she ever laid a hand on me?”
“At that banquet before, she had her arm around your waist. I remember it clearly,” Jian Qiuyi fumed. “And you didn’t even pull away. Now you’re arguing with me about it. Sister, tell me the truth, am I getting in the way between you two? If so, I’ll leave right now!”
You Song shot her a glare and snapped, “Get out!”
Early the next morning, You Song received a call from Jian Xiangling.
Jian Xiangling chatted with her about various things family matters and trivialities before finally getting to the main point.
“About this business deal, what do you think, Xiaosong?” Jian Xiangling asked You Song, saying to her: “If we can secure this order, our annual revenue will increase by tens of millions. You know the company hasn’t been doing well these past two years we haven’t landed a single pure-profit deal of this scale in ages. If I weren’t still out of town, I’d personally oversee this.”
You Song understood this was her way of reminding her with the company struggling, this deal was their ticket to prosperity, and You Song absolutely had to secure it.
On this point, You Song was determined to succeed.
“Director Jian, you don’t need to worry about that,” You Song said, phone in hand as she gazed out the window. “I had a long discussion with Director Zhang yesterday. This order is truly one of the largest domestic deals right now, and there’s no issue with our two companies collaborating to handle it.”
“I hope so. Xiaosong, you must keep a close eye on this no mistakes allowed.”
“There won’t be any mistakes,” You Song assured her. “I guarantee we’ll secure this order.”
Pleased by this, Jian Xiangling shifted the conversation to Jian Qiuyi: “This is her first time accompanying you on a business trip. She hasn’t done anything inappropriate, has she?”
“Not at all,” You Song replied, carefully omitting the incident where Jian Qiuyi had chased Zhang Zi out of her room. “While Director Zhang and I were negotiating, she stayed quietly by my side uncharacteristically well-behaved.”
“Ah, that’s just how she is. For all her usual antics, she’s actually quite sharp.”
Jian Xiangling sounded proud, as if showing off a treasure. “It’s just that the girl’s young and impulsive, with a terrible temper. I rarely have time to discipline her properly she’s picked up some bad habits.”
“Not at all. Qiuyi is a very clever girl.”
“Haha, as long as she hasn’t caused you any trouble.”
Just then, the doorbell rang. You Song glanced toward the entrance as a voice called from outside: “Sis, I brought you breakfast!”
Jian Xiangling seemed to hear something over the phone and asked curiously, “Is that Qiuyi?”
“Ah, yes,” You Song replied, inexplicably nervous. “Would you like to speak with her?”
“No need. I have work to attend to now, I’ll call her myself when I’m free. You go ahead with your tasks.”
“Understood, Director Jian.”
After hanging up, You Song went to open the door. There stood Jian Qiuyi, dressed in gray-and-white athletic wear, her long black hair tied in a high ponytail. She held a jianbing guozi bought from who-knows-where, radiating youthful energy.
The sight made You Song’s breath catch slightly.
Jian Qiuyi must have just finished running her entire body carried the scent of alpha pheromones, sweat still glistening at her temples. Her dark, luminous eyes fixed intently on You Song, brimming with sunshine.
The weather outside must be beautiful today.
You Song studied her for a long moment before finally looking down at the jianbing. “The hotel serves breakfast. Where did you go to buy this?”
“I went downstairs for a run and grabbed some breakfast on the way back.” Jian Qiuyi barged in without invitation, chattering to You Song. “Don’t even mention the hotel breakfast when I got there, there were barely any options. And this is supposed to be a five-star hotel! The selection was pitiful, lacking everything you’d want.”
She placed the breakfast on the table and turned to You Song. “I tried one of these, it’s just as good as the breakfast from the alley behind our company. I got yours with sausage and pork tenderloin and asked for extra sauce. You’ll love it.”
You Song glanced at the steaming jianbing and suddenly felt hungry.
“Your mother called me earlier,” You Song said as she walked to the table and unceremoniously started eating the breakfast Jian Qiuyi had brought. “She really values this collaboration and hopes we can secure it directly. It could bring the company millions in pure profit.”
Jian Qiuyi sat across from her, propping her chin on her hand as she watched You Song. “You didn’t badmouth me to my mom, did you?”
You Song took a bite of the jianbing. “In your eyes, am I really the kind of person who’d talk behind your back?”
Jian Qiuyi tapped her cheek with a finger, her gaze lingering on the brown sauce smeared at the corner of You Song’s lips. A dark amusement flickered in her eyes. “Even if you did, it’d be for my own good. After all, I’m usually so disappointing.”
You Song shot her a sidelong glance and muttered, “Whatever you think of me, your mother clearly holds you in high regard. She couldn’t stop praising you hoping you’d make her proud.”
Jian Qiuyi gave a half-hearted “Oh.”
“There’s a small cocktail party tonight on the hotel’s third floor. I’ll introduce you to a few executives. Be on your best behavior not too flashy, but don’t be rude either.”
“Another party?” Jian Qiuyi slumped back in her chair, displeased. “Don’t you businesspeople do anything besides eating and drinking?”
“Occasionally we play golf, but most executives prefer wining, dining, singing, and dancing.” You Song took another bite of the jianbing before adding, “If there’s nothing else, you can go now. I’ll call you before we leave tonight.”
“Will Zhang Zi be there?” Jian Qiuyi asked.
“Director Zhang will definitely attend.”
“…”
That woman just wouldn’t disappear.
Jian Qiuyi’s mood soured visibly, her expression darkening. You Song knew exactly what she was thinking, but no matter how many times she’d explained it, the girl remained stubborn. There was nothing more to be done.
“Dress nicely tonight. It’s not a formal event, so no need for a gown just don’t look too casual.” You Song finished her breakfast quickly, wiped her mouth with a napkin, and tried to open the bottled water on the table, but the cap wouldn’t budge.
Jian Qiuyi scoffed at the sight, took the bottle from her, twisted it open effortlessly, and placed it before You Song. “Honestly, are you really an Omega? Can’t even open a bottle cap?”
You Song ignored the jab and took a sip of water. “Go back to your room and shower. You reek of sweat.”
The rejected Jian Qiuyi wasn’t upset at all. Seizing the moment when You Song was drinking water, she leaned in to steal a kiss on her cheek, then quickly straightened up while laughing and retreating. “I’ll head back first then. If you need anything, sister, come find me in my room, I’m staying at the other end of this floor.”
You Song covered her cheek, watching blankly as Jian Qiuyi ran off before she could react. It took a long moment before she turned her head away, her face flushed red.
Only then did You Song realize the implication in Jian Qiuyi’s words she had actually booked a separate room for herself instead of sharing with the company colleagues?
You Song sighed quietly to herself.
This trip’s expenses absolutely must not be reimbursed for Jian Qiuyi. It would serve this pampered young miss right to learn her lesson.
