The Aloof Omega Caught the Eye of a Clingy Sweetheart - Chapter 20
Jian Qiuyi was furious after being blocked, so she stormed straight to the company, only to learn that You Song had gone out though even Xu Ye wasn’t entirely sure where.
Unable to contain her anger, Jian Qiuyi called You Song several more times, but none of the calls went through.
In the café, You Song watched as her phone screen lit up and dimmed, over and over, until it all condensed into a single brief notification on the screen:
Missed calls from Jian Qiuyi (16).
“That kid has called so many times, why aren’t you answering any of them?” Zhang Zi sat across from You Song, sipping her iced Americano with amusement. “Did you two have a fight?”
“No, what would we even fight about? If she doesn’t cause me trouble, I should consider myself lucky.”
Lowering her gaze, You Song ignored Jian Qiuyi’s calls and instead looked up at Zhang Zi, speaking seriously. “Regarding the deal you mentioned last time, we’ve discussed it and think we can collaborate to secure it. If you have any other conditions, feel free to bring them up today.”
Zhang Zi studied You Song with a leisurely smile. “Any conditions at all?”
You Song returned the smile. “You know what I mean, don’t you, Director Zhang?”
Zhang Zi’s eyes curved in delight as she set down her coffee. “Director You, how can someone as beautiful as you also be so sharp? If you were just a little more naive, I’d marry you on the spot.”
“But don’t you only like Omegas? Could you really take a liking to me?”
“That’s not true. It’s not about gender, it’s about whoever captures my heart.”
Resting her chin on her hand, Zhang Zi grinned. “And Director You has been pounding on my heart every single day.”
You Song chuckled lightly. She knew Zhang Zi was full of nonsense eleven lies in every ten words so she didn’t take it seriously. A little teasing wouldn’t cost her anything.
“If that’s all you have to say, then I assume there are no additional conditions.” You Song smiled. “On behalf of our company, I’d like to thank you for such generous terms.”
Zhang Zi maintained her breezy smile. “Losses can be blessings. We’ve been partners for years, profits should be shared. But Director You, you’ll have to accompany me on a business trip in a couple of days. Will you have the time?”
“Whenever you request it, I’ll make time.” You Song replied calmly. “Just let me know the destination, and I’ll bring our finance and legal teams along. Since we’re taking the lion’s share, we should naturally contribute more effort.”
“Haha, Director You really is shrewd never letting yourself suffer a single loss.”
“I’d love to, but you won’t let me, will you?”
“Alright, alright.” Zhang Zi found their back-and-forth entertaining two sharp-minded women fencing with words was quite the diversion. Watching You Song’s phone light up again, she grinned. “If you don’t want to answer the kid’s calls, just block her. It’s annoying otherwise.”
“She’s the chairman’s daughter, I have to at least save face.” You Song picked up her phone and powered it off before saying to Zhang Zi, “I’ve brought the documents today. Let’s discuss them in detail.”
Jian Qiuyi had been searching for You Song all day, even staking out her apartment building for hours. But knowing so little about You Song, Jian Qiuyi had no idea where else she might go besides work and home whether she had family or friends in the city, or her usual spots for meals and relaxation.
She knew none of it.
By 9 PM, You Song still hadn’t returned home. Jian Qiuyi’s head was buzzing with frustration.
No answer to her calls, blocked on WeChat, and now avoiding home, what the hell was this woman up to?
Slumping over the steering wheel, Jian Qiuyi seethed with anger. But beneath the anger was a nagging worry. Just then, Xu Ye called, and Jian Qiuyi quickly answered.
“Qiuyi, it’s Xu Ye,” she said over the phone. “Boss You just called me. She said she has something to take care of tonight and won’t be coming home.”
Jian Qiuyi fell silent for a long moment before asking, “Does she know I’ve been camped outside her place?”
Xu Ye hesitated awkwardly. “Probably, yeah.”
Closing her eyes in resignation, Jian Qiuyi realized You Song was genuinely upset. No matter how long she waited, You Song wouldn’t show up tonight.
After hanging up, she drove away from You Song’s apartment, cruising aimlessly through the streets, letting the wind whip through her hair.
Just as she was lost in thought, her car’s hands-free system rang. Glancing at the caller ID, she saw it was Ji Jia.
“Hey, hey, hey! Where’ve you been, my dear? Haven’t seen you out in ages!” Ji Jia’s lazy drawl grated on her nerves.
“Cut the crap. What do you want?” Jian Qiuyi snapped, her mood foul.
“Oho, what’s got our Miss Jian in such a twist?” Ji Jia laughed, clearly amused. “Heard your mom dragged you into the family business. How’s that going?”
“Terrible,” Jian Qiuyi grumbled, pulling over and leaning back in her seat. “No real authority, just fetching tea and running errands as some assistant. Pissed off my boss today, and now she’s gone AWOL.”
Ji Jia cackled. “That bad, huh? Who’s your boss anyway? Doesn’t she know who you are?”
Jian Qiuyi scoffed, unwilling to dwell on it.
Ji Jia, sensing her mood, changed the subject. “Well, if you’re free, come to the bar. I just got here, we’re throwing Xiao Zhao a birthday bash. Whole place is booked. You in?”
“Sure,” Jian Qiuyi agreed without hesitation, heading straight for the address Ji Jia sent.
Twenty minutes later, with the streets nearly empty at this hour, she parked haphazardly and strode into the bar like she owned the place.
The bartender recognized her and ushered her straight into the packed dance floor.
Xiao Zhao was another rich kid in their circle, and her birthday bash was predictably extravagant. Even with the place reserved, it was still crowded just slightly roomier than usual.
Ji Jia, having arrived earlier, spotted Jian Qiuyi and dragged her upstairs.
“The private room is lively, and I even called a few young models for you,” Ji Jia said with exaggerated thoughtfulness to Jian Qiuyi. “All your favorite types big chests, slim waists, long legs, with straight black hair, wavy locks, or even hime cuts.”
Jian Qiuyi shot her a glance and remarked, “You sound like a madam soliciting customers.”
Ji Jia burst into laughter, linking arms with her as she teased, “Perfect timing, dear guest! Our establishment has beauties of all kinds~”
Jian Qiuyi couldn’t be bothered to engage. In a sour mood today, she entered the private room, exchanged greetings with a few acquaintances, and then found a quiet corner to sit.
The bar was buzzing with energy, and since it was the birthday girl’s celebration, people kept streaming in and out.
Though noisy, the atmosphere lifted Jian Qiuyi’s spirits slightly. Yet as she surveyed the room filled with glamorous women and the swaying figures on the dance floor, she felt nothing.
In the past, she’d have enjoyed singing and dancing here, but tonight was different.
Leaning against the railing, she watched couples grinding to the music below, scanning the crowd without finding a single person who tempted her to join.
If You Song were here, would she be moving like that on the dance floor too?
The thought conjured an image, You Song in a delicate fish-scale spaghetti-strap dress, her jet-black hair cascading over her shoulders, revealing her elegant neck and smooth, rounded collarbones.
Her milky-white skin faintly revealed the blue veins beneath, her graceful shoulders and back resembling a sculpted masterpiece, flawless in every way.
If You Song were dancing, she’d undoubtedly be the most dazzling presence in the room.
The more Jian Qiuyi imagined it, the hotter her frustration burned. She recalled that night when she’d accidentally walked into the room, how You Song had pulled her close without hesitation.
Her body had carried the fresh scent of shower gel, and when she kissed her, there was no shyness, only the bold entanglement of tongues that made Jian Qiuyi want to devour her whole.
But today, they’d fought.
After painstakingly improving their relationship, a petty argument over another Omega had flared up, leaving them estranged and forcing Jian Qiuyi to attend some unfamiliar rich kid’s birthday party.
The more she dwelled on it, the worse she felt. She downed a gulp of alcohol in frustration.
Ji Jia emerged from the private room and spotted Jian Qiuyi leaning over the railing, assuming she’d taken an interest in someone below. She sidled up and asked playfully, “Who caught your eye?”
Jian Qiuyi glanced at her before turning to lean back against the railing. “No one. Just bored.”
Ji Jia’s eyes gleamed with mischief as she nudged closer. “Hey, tell me about that boss of yours. I’m dying to know what kind of person could actually make you angry.”
“It’s nothing. I messed up, so her anger was justified.”
“Oh?” Ji Jia propped her chin on her hand, leaning on the railing. “That doesn’t sound like something you’d say.”
“What should I sound like, then?” Jian Qiuyi sighed. “I’m not unreasonable. I know right from wrong, and this time, it was my fault.”
Ji Jia blinked before whispering conspiratorially, “Your boss… isn’t an Omega, is she?”
Jian Qiuyi stiffened slightly.
Ji Jia chuckled and said, “Look at your reaction. Are you really an Omega? Can an Omega even be your superior?”
Jian Qiuyi fell silent for a long moment, feeling as if Ji Jia’s words had awakened something in her. Yet after much thought, she couldn’t quite grasp what it was. Frowning, she finally replied, “She’s a beta.”
