The Aloof Little Puppy Is Super Obedient - Chapter 7
Once Chu Jingtian had managed to steady his emotions, he let out a long sigh of relief, looking at his parents with deep gratitude. No matter what mistakes he had made in the past, his parents had always stood behind him, ready to help him clean up the mess.
Zhao Qingya looked at Chu Jingtian’s obedient expression, and her face lit up with joy. As a parent, how could she not be happy seeing her child finally return to his senses? She gently stroked his back, continuing to soothe his lingering distress. Standing beside them, Chu Jianhua watched the scene unfold with a soft smile, his eyes filled with warmth.
Su Jingyang, watching the family’s harmonious reunion from the sidelines, felt a genuine sense of happiness as well. From the very beginning, he had felt a surge of resentment seeing Chu Jingtian being “conquered” by that man. As a man himself, he could see right through that scumbag’s true intentions. Seeing the peaceful atmosphere between Chu Jingtian and his father now made him smile. Now that Chu Jingtian was free, if Su Jingyang wanted to be with him, things would finally become possible. At the thought of this, the corners of his lips curved upward.
After the family had shared a moment of affection, they finally noticed Su Jingyang standing nearby. Realizing they had momentarily forgotten him, they felt a flash of embarrassment and quickly walked over to his side.
“Thank you, Xiao Yang, for helping our family reunite like this. You must stay for lunch today.”
Hearing Zhao Qingya say this, Su Jingyang looked at her with a bit of awkwardness, unsure of how to respond. Zhao Qingya gave him a helpless, warm smile and sighed.
“Su Jingyang, you absolutely must stay. Today is the day your brother returns; since he’s back, he has to treat you to a good meal.”
Zhao Qingya’s smile was radiant as she quickly soothed Su Jingyang’s hesitation. Having him there made her incredibly happy. Their family’s successful reunion was largely due to his help. Initially, they hadn’t known how to contact Chu Jingtian, and it was Su Jingyang who acted as the bridge. Without him, they might not have seen their son again.
Seeing her firm resolve, Su Jingyang let out a quiet sigh. He couldn’t refuse any longer. “Alright… thank you, Auntie.” He was truly grateful that she wanted him to be part of this family meal.
Zhao Qingya reached out and patted his forehead, a delighted smile on her face. “Why are you being so polite? When you were little, you and your brother ate at our house all the time. Did I ever complain then? I didn’t expect you to become so reserved after coming back from abroad!”
She looked at him with a mix of helplessness and affection. Before he went abroad, he had never been this shy. Su Jingyang felt a wave of complicated emotions. In the past, he had loved coming to this house, watching Chu Jingtian eat and laugh. But after Chu Jingtian got married, he didn’t dare do those things anymore, only watching from the shadows. He had felt like a thief, unable to speak his mind. Now that everything was returning to how it used to be, he was overjoyed, though he had to keep those intense feelings suppressed for now. Once he pushed those thoughts down, his mood finally stabilized.
Soon, the family gathered around the table, their faces full of smiles. Chu Jianhua, who was usually very stern, was now beaming as he quickly placed food into Chu Jingtian’s bowl.
“Child, I apologize for the things I said earlier. I was just angry.” Chu Jianhua looked at his son with a sense of remorse. Seeing Chu Jingtian return home, any father would naturally feel a mix of pain and relief.
Chu Jingtian gave a happy smile and returned the gesture, placing food in his father’s bowl. “Dad, after living with that man, I realized that home is my true harbor.” He spoke openly, laying everything out.
The main reason for his realization was the immense grievance he felt in that other household. Every Lunar New Year, he was forbidden from returning to his own home, and every attempt to do so ended in misery.
“You were so stubborn when you first got married and wouldn’t listen to us. Now that you’ve been through it, you see how tragic it was,” Chu Jianhua said seriously. “But don’t worry. Now that you’ve divorced him, you can return to work at the company anytime.”
Chu Jianhua had wanted Chu Jingtian to join the company right after graduation. But back then, Chu Jingtian was so blinded by love that he gave up his promotion opportunities to marry that man, leaving Chu Jianhua to handle everything at the firm alone. Now, seeing his son’s state, Chu Jianhua’s eyes were full of kindness as he urged him to eat more.
Chu Jingtian nodded. His parents were getting older, and he was maturing; it was time for him to take over the family business. He remembered how Zhou Nian had benefited from the company’s resources benefits provided by his family. He had known about it but allowed it because he wanted Zhou Nian to be happy. He never expected Zhou Nian would use those gifts as a means to scheme against him.
The thought made Chu Jingtian feel a pang of distress, but he swallowed the emotion. “Dad, since you put it that way, I’ll start studying the company’s finances in a few days.”
Beside him, Su Jingyang’s eyes sparkled as he heard Chu Jingtian’s willingness to take over the company and grow stronger. As someone who secretly loved Chu Jingtian, he was thrilled but didn’t know how to express it yet. He focused on steadying his breathing.
“Good. As long as you’re willing to take over, there won’t be any issues at the company. I’ve already cleared out some of the old staff and fixed certain financial problems,” Chu Jianhua said sternly.
Usually, they wouldn’t fire long-term employees, but those who were let go had betrayed the company. Chu Jianhua had done this specifically to ensure Chu Jingtian could take over without any lingering threats or “hidden dangers.”
Chu Jingtian smiled as he listened to his father’s arrangements, but his heart felt heavy with guilt. He realized just how much his father had been doing for him behind the scenes. He used to stay silent about his feelings, but now he saw how ridiculous his past behavior had been.
Su Jingyang, noticing Chu Jingtian’s mood shift, leaned in slightly to comfort him. “Brother Jingtian, don’t worry about those things. While you were away, Uncle and Auntie kept themselves busy with the company. They missed you during their time off, but when they were working, they were completely focused.”
Su Jingyang’s words helped ease Chu Jingtian’s mind. Hearing this, Chu Jingtian’s mood improved. Su Jingyang hated seeing him upset and did his best to reassure him. Chu Jingtian finally stabilized his emotions. It was so easy to overthink things, and he felt foolish for his past convictions. He had once thought he could survive perfectly well away from his parents, only to be subjected to that man’s schemes. He gripped his hands tightly.
Indeed, the only true harbor was home, where there were no shackles.
After dinner, the family went out for a walk. Since it was a family moment, Su Jingyang felt it wasn’t right to intrude and took his leave. As Chu Jianhua walked with Chu Jingtian, he finally let down his guard.
“Child, don’t be so headstrong in the future. When you’re like that, we really don’t know what to do…” Chu Jianhua’s fatigue was visible in his eyes.
Chu Jingtian nodded, listening to his father’s teaching. Beside them, Zhao Qingya remained quiet. She knew that when a child goes through such an ordeal, a lecture isn’t always the answer. Just seeing Chu Jingtian back and ready to work was enough to make her and her husband, truly happy.
“Alright, regarding everything that happened today, let me explain things to you clearly.”
