The Aloof Little Puppy Is Super Obedient - Chapter 40
“I’m sorry, but stop dragging these things up. I have no interest in hearing you explain what you did in the past.”
Chu Jingtian looked at Zhou Nian with utter exasperation. He could not understand why the man insisted on bringing up old memories. To him, those memories had long been wiped clean; they were nothing more than scars. He did not understand why Zhou Nian was recounting these messy stories, and he had zero interest in hearing a lecture on past tears.
“You’re explaining all this to me now, but don’t you know how you treated me back then? Have you forgotten everything you did?”
“I am not a saint, and I won’t believe a word you say. Your ‘I’m sorry’ is nothing more than your own ego acting up.”
Chu Jingtian did not hesitate to vent his frustrations.
“Alright, I have work to do. If you have nothing else, please leave. I don’t want to waste any more time on you.”
He wanted Zhou Nian gone and made his intentions clear after a few more words. Zhou Nian stared at him as if he were looking at a stranger.
“Why do you seem like a completely different person? You never used to speak like this.”
Zhou Nian could not believe that Chu Jingtian had become so sharp. In the past, Chu Jingtian was always kind and would never have said such hurtful things. Seeing Zhou Nian continue to ramble, Chu Jingtian simply called his assistant to escort him out.
“If you have nothing else, don’t bother meeting me again. And if you’re only here to ask for a reconciliation, then get lost!”
Chu Jingtian truly found Zhou Nian annoying. He had been so blunt, yet the man still did not seem to understand. There was a reason he loathed him now.
“Chu Jingtian, you have to believe me. I really know I was wrong. I’ll never treat you like that again. If you’re willing to take me back, I’ll agree instantly!”
Chu Jingtian laughed at that. Zhou Nian was already tainted, having been with so many others. He had no need for such a “dirty” person. He was a normal human being; why would he want a secondhand man? When he first divorced Zhou Nian, he decided he would live his own life and never wrong himself for the sake of others.
As Chu Jingtian returned to his work, there was another knock. He frowned and told the person to enter.
“If it’s business, speak. I’m only discussing work. If not, please leave.”
He had learned his lesson. He kept his head down, focused on the documents in front of him.
“Brother.”
Chu Jingtian froze. Hearing those words, he looked up and met a pair of burning eyes. He was stunned.
That morning, Chu Jingtian was dressed in a sharp black suit, his hair swept back, looking exceptionally handsome.
“Brother, have you eaten lunch yet? I brought some for you.” Su Jingyang spoke with a bright, radiant smile.
Chu Jingtian’s cheeks flushed slightly. He didn’t know how to act. Seeing Su Jingyang smile at him made his heart skip a beat. He felt flustered, unsure of how to handle these sudden emotions.
“Is it lunchtime already?”
He checked his watch and realized he had worked right through the hour. He had been so busy—and perhaps so irritated by Zhou Nian’s earlier visit—that he hadn’t noticed the time. Zhou Nian’s nonsense had left him feeling agitated, but seeing Su Jingyang standing there with food, his panic turned into a shy warmth.
“Thank you for bringing this.” Chu Jingtian felt a bit bashful. He hadn’t expected Su Jingyang to go out of his way for him.
He looked at the meal and was very satisfied. It was a well-balanced spread of meat and vegetables.
“It’s nothing, Brother,” Su Jingyang said with a smile as he quickly set the table. He took a pair of chopsticks from his bag and placed them in front of Chu Jingtian.
Chu Jingtian watched him, impressed by how attentive and detailed Su Jingyang was. He had prepared everything perfectly. This care made Chu Jingtian think back to the previous night.
The memory of the moonlight, their bodies pressed together, and the sound of hot breaths in his ear flooded back. His face turned as red as a ripe apple.
“Brother? What’s wrong?” Su Jingyang asked, noticing his red ears.
“Nothing, nothing!” Chu Jingtian stammered. He quickly picked up his spoon and began to eat, chewing slowly to hide his embarrassment. He couldn’t get the images of last night out of his head; they were etched into his mind.
Su Jingyang sat across from him, watching him eat with a relieved smile.
“Did you cook this yourself?” Chu Jingtian asked.
“Mhm,” Su Jingyang replied happily.
Chu Jingtian realized then that Su Jingyang was actually quite a good cook. Every time he ate Su Jingyang’s food, it had a consistent, delicious flavor. He smiled, and Su Jingyang’s own grin widened at the praise.
“I didn’t realize that after all these years, your cooking skills haven’t faded at all.”
He hadn’t forgotten why Su Jingyang learned to cook. If he remembered correctly, it was because Su Jingyang’s parents were always away on business trips. Back then, the nannies they hired were terrible, which forced Su Jingyang to learn how to prepare meals for himself.
He felt a pang of pity for the young Su Jingyang. He remembered going over to play one day and discovering how bad the nanny was, then telling his own parents. Since their parents were close partners, the word got back to Su Jingyang’s parents, the nannies were replaced, and eventually, Su Jingyang didn’t have to cook anymore.
Yet, after all this time, he was tasting that familiar flavor again. It made him very happy. He could tell Su Jingyang put a lot of heart into his cooking.
“It’s amazing how, even after so many years, you’re still so talented at anything you put your mind to,” Chu Jingtian said, looking at Su Jingyang with admiration.
Su Jingyang turned shy at the compliment. These were just simple home-cooked dishes, but hearing Chu Jingtian praise him so warmly sparked a heat in his heart.
