The Aloof Little Puppy Is Super Obedient - Chapter 39
Chu Jingtian found himself spiraling into doubt again, unable to understand why these thoughts continued to dominate his mind. Even though he was no longer with Zhou Nian, fear still clung to him. He did not know why these feelings persisted, controlling his every thought.
Grappling with these messy emotions was exhausting. Thinking of what had transpired between him and Su Jingyang the previous night left him dazed and confused. He had never imagined he would cross that line with Su Jingyang, and now the moral implications weighed heavily on him. They had been neighbors since childhood; how could things have turned out like this?
While Chu Jingtian was panicking and struggling to stabilize his mood, a knock sounded at the door.
“Please, come in,” Chu Jingtian called out.
The door opened, and Zhou Nian walked in. Chu Jingtian’s brow furrowed in confusion and irritation. He could not fathom why Zhou Nian was here.
“What are you doing here?” Chu Jingtian asked coldly. “If I remember correctly, the partnership between our companies ended long ago.”
Ever since his conversation with Su Jingyang last night, Chu Jingtian’s feelings had cooled significantly. Seeing Zhou Nian now sparked more anger than anything else. He realized that his decision to drink last night had been because of Zhou Nian, and he was tired of the man constantly looking for trouble.
“Jingtian, I want to talk to you. Can we go out? I am being sincere,” Zhou Nian said.
Looking at Zhou Nian, Chu Jingtian recalled the time the man had first confessed his feelings in a similar manner. He felt a wave of exasperation. “Don’t you find it ridiculous to say these things to me now? Hearing this only makes me feel…” He sighed.
Facing these emotions was a heavy burden. He felt a sense of loathing for the way Zhou Nian kept pursuing him. He had already made the situation clear; he did not want to deal with these feelings or argue with Zhou Nian anymore. The past was the past, but seeing Zhou Nian continue to harass him made him incredibly uncomfortable.
“I truly want to talk to you. Please, just give me one more chance. I won’t ask for anything else,” Zhou Nian pleaded.
Chu Jingtian gave a dry laugh. “When you confessed to me before, you said the same thing—to give you a chance. Look how you treated me back then. Do you really think I can trust you now?”
To Chu Jingtian, this was unbelievable and unwanted. Last night’s events were already enough of a headache; he did not need Zhou Nian adding to the stress. He just wanted the man to stop.
Zhou Nian looked at Chu Jingtian with a pained expression. “Do you really refuse to give me even one chance? I know now how ridiculous my past behavior was. I truly know I was wrong. I will never make such a low-level mistake again.”
He seemed genuinely shocked that Chu Jingtian was being so firm. In the past, Chu Jingtian would never have been this cold.
“First of all, I will not pay the price for your mistakes. During the time we spent together, what did you even take me for? Now that we are divorced, you suddenly want to talk?” Chu Jingtian retorted.
“I know I was wrong, and I won’t do it again. I am sincerely expressing my regret,” Zhou Nian insisted.
Chu Jingtian’s irritation grew. “Zhou Nian, do you not understand? I have made it very clear: stop looking for trouble. Why are you still doing this? Haven’t I said enough?”
Chu Jingtian was barely restraining his temper. He wanted to move on, but Zhou Nian was making it impossible. Zhou Nian had been the one to want the divorce initially, and now he was acting as if Chu Jingtian were someone who could be discarded and picked up at will. It was insulting.
He took a breath to control his racing thoughts. He was tired of people who did not know when to stop.
Zhou Nian, seeing Chu Jingtian’s resolve, reached into his pocket and pulled out a ring box. He stepped toward Chu Jingtian and held it out. “Jingtian! I know this is the ring you wanted most in the past. I bought it for you. Can you please forgive my past mistakes?”
His eyes were full of what appeared to be sincerity. But as Chu Jingtian looked at him, he felt no sense of remorse coming from the man. He felt as though Zhou Nian was playing a game, trying to build a new cage to imprison him—perhaps targeting his wealth this time.
During their marriage, Chu Jingtian never understood Zhou Nian’s true motives. Now, he felt he finally did. The realization was heartbreaking in its own way.
“Zhou Nian, don’t you think this is a joke?” Chu Jingtian looked at him with disdain. Buying this ring now was just another way to disgust him. People who never understood what they did wrong were the most frustrating.
“You’re standing here now, trying to force me to accept your confession? Don’t you think it’s laughable? Where was this attitude when we were together? Is your conscience really…” Chu Jingtian stopped himself, looking at Zhou Nian with pure disbelief.
Zhou Nian was flustered. He did not know how to salvage the situation. Seeing Chu Jingtian’s hardness, he felt a genuine pang of fear.
“Jingtian, I really know I was wrong. I won’t do it again. I mean it.”
In the past, Chu Jingtian was never like this. Seeing him so resolute made Zhou Nian panic.
“Stop. Just stop. Everything you’re saying now feels like nonsense to me. You didn’t say any of this before, and now you’re coming to me with this moral kidnapping?”
Chu Jingtian was done. If Zhou Nian truly loved him, he would not have treated him that way before. This sudden “love” was just the regret of a man who had discarded something and now wanted to reclaim his property.
It was not love. It was a desire to win.
Chu Jingtian looked at him, no longer knowing how to express his frustration. He could only try to keep his composure. “Don’t say anything else. Just leave. If you’re going to keep wasting my time with this, I’m sorry, but I’m too busy.”
Zhou Nian stood there, unsure of how to proceed. “Are you really this stubborn? I’ve already apologized!”
He still had not changed. Chu Jingtian looked at him, speechless. Zhou Nian was as thick-skinned as ever, driven only by his competitive nature and a refusal to lose.
