The Aloof Little Puppy Is Super Obedient - Chapter 41
“Brother, making these meals is no big deal. There is no necessity to praise me like this.”
Su Jingyang felt bashful facing such attention. Hearing Chu Jingtian’s current praise made him feel a bit overwhelmed, and his cheeks flushed slightly.
Watching Su Jingyang’s sudden shy display, Chu Jingtian smiled with a touch of helplessness. He did not quite know how to explain his feelings to the younger man. Looking at Su Jingyang now, a sense of guilt flickered in his heart; unsure of what to say, he simply reached out and patted Su Jingyang on the back.
“Look at what you are saying. This meal is as delicious as always. Why should I not praise you? These meals you make are very important to me,” Chu Jingtian spoke with great sincerity.
Even when they were younger, he had always loved Su Jingyang’s cooking. The food Su Jingyang made always held that same familiar taste, one that inevitably stirred up memories of the past. Though those memories contained many unpleasant moments alongside the happy ones, reflecting on them now actually brought a sense of peace to his heart.
Hearing Su Jingyang speak this way, Chu Jingtian did not push the subject further. Su Jingyang was already being quite insistent; if he said much more, the younger man would surely start overthinking things again.
“Alright.”
Su Jingyang wore a brilliant, radiant smile. Noticing this, Chu Jingtian felt a wave of satisfaction.
“Sometimes, you really need to be sincere. It is only when you are sincere that I realize how bright your smile can be. Thank you for preparing lunch for me today; I liked it very much.”
Sometimes, when one is busy and exhausted, having someone willing to bring you food and offer a smile is a truly wonderful thing.
During the time he was married to Zhou Nian, it was the darkest period of his life. He had not known how to endure those days. Back then, he was always alone, facing everything by himself, lost in his own thoughts. Thinking back on it now, his hands clenched instinctively, still struggling with how to process those memories.
Facing those past feelings often brought a surge of irritation, and he struggled to suppress those emotions. All the grievances from the past felt distant now; seeing the joy of the present and all that had been done for him, he felt content. Having someone willing to stand behind him and do so much for him was enough to make him happy.
Chu Jingtian eventually calmed his emotions and said nothing more. As he finished packing away the food containers, he looked at Su Jingyang with a hint of suspicion.
“When you were preparing lunch for me, did you eat anything yourself? If you have not eaten, tell me the truth.”
Having finished the meal, Chu Jingtian finally noticed this detail and questioned Su Jingyang. Just then, Su Jingyang’s stomach let out a loud growl.
Chu Jingtian looked at him, feeling helpless. He truly did not know what to do with him. Sometimes, seeing Su Jingyang like this made him feel frustrated, unsure of how to get through to him.
“I do not even know what to say to you, kid. You are always making food for me but neglecting to eat yourself. Do you not know that it is bad for your stomach?”
Chu Jingtian knew this all too well. In the past, he had given up his career for his family, spending his time preparing everything for others. He used to eat reheated leftovers, and during that period, his digestion was constantly a mess. It was not until later that he realized he was harming his body; he stopped doing it and slowly regained his health, eventually ceasing to care what that man thought of him.
Thinking of those times still brought a spark of anger that was hard to stabilize.
Standing opposite him, Su Jingyang glared at his own stomach, mortified. Hearing the growling sound made him feel miserable, unable to keep his composure. His stomach was being so treacherous; he thought he had controlled himself, yet it made such an embarrassing sound. It was truly annoying.
“I am fine, Brother. Since you have finished eating, I will just go home and eat now,” Su Jingyang said, clearly not wanting to linger on the subject. He quickly grabbed the thermal lunch box, intending to make a hasty exit.
Noticing this, Chu Jingtian quickly stepped to Su Jingyang’s side and grabbed his arm. “Enough, do not argue with me. You are coming with me to eat right now.”
As he spoke, Chu Jingtian held Su Jingyang firmly and led him away quickly.
Watching Chu Jingtian’s determined fussing, Su Jingyang felt a secret joy. He had not expected that using these little tactics would make his brother feel so much heartache for him. Seeing his brother this way made him realize just how much the man cared.
Chu Jingtian pulled Su Jingyang into a restaurant. Once inside, he looked at him seriously.
“Alright, sit down and have a proper meal.”
Previously, Su Jingyang had always been the one treating him. Realizing he had not properly celebrated Su Jingyang’s return yet, Chu Jingtian smiled as they sat in the restaurant.
“By the way, you have been back for a few days and I have not held a welcome-home party for you yet. You did not even mention it. In a few days, I will host a celebration for you and invite all our old childhood friends.”
They had many mutual friends from their younger days.
Sitting beside him, Su Jingyang nodded. Hearing his brother say this brought a smile to his face; he had not expected that after the divorce, his brother would become so attentive toward him. Thinking of this, a slightly wicked smile played on his lips. That scumbag really was the worst. His brother was so capable of caring for someone, yet that man had tormented him so much.
But no matter what, his brother belonged only to him now.
Seeing Su Jingyang eating so little, Chu Jingtian’s brows furrowed. He quickly picked up his chopsticks and piled food into Su Jingyang’s bowl.
Su Jingyang looked at the mountain of food in disbelief. “I do not need this much,” he said shyly, unsure of how to respond.
Chu Jingtian looked at him sternly. “Do not say that. Hurry up and eat all of it. Besides, you just spent the whole time watching me eat; it is only right that I feed you now. It has been so many years, and I have not had a proper meal with you in a long time.”
Chu Jingtian sighed with some regret. Since Su Jingyang had returned to the country, they had not sat down for a single formal meal together until now.
Seeing how serious Chu Jingtian was, Su Jingyang had no choice but to pick up his bowl and start eating properly. As he tasted the food, his heart felt sweet. He did not know what to say, but his eyes were filled with tenderness. He was truly happy to experience this side of Chu Jingtian during their time together.
After finishing their meal, the two began to stroll slowly down the street.
“How are things feeling at the company? If anything is not going well, just tell me.”
Chu Jingtian looked at Su Jingyang seriously. He had been so busy with work lately that he had not had the chance to check in on Su Jingyang’s department. Now that they finally had some private time, he wanted to make sure everything was alright.
Su Jingyang smiled and spoke quickly. “Things at the company are great. The people there are very nice.” As he spoke, the warmth in his eyes was unmistakable.
Seeing Su Jingyang working so hard, Chu Jingtian gave him a thumbs-up.
“I did not expect you to be such a hard worker. You have handled so many things already.” Chu Jingtian continued to praise him, his face bright with a smile. He was genuinely happy to see Su Jingyang so dedicated to the company.
Hearing this, Su Jingyang’s cheeks flushed again, leaving him momentarily speechless. “Mm.” He felt quite embarrassed by the praise.
“Alright. In the future, if you have any problems with work, just tell me. If you feel wronged or mistreated, you must let me know. Do not let those things weigh on your emotions.”
Chu Jingtian wanted Su Jingyang to be happy at the company and hoped he would not encounter anything unpleasant. Su Jingyang nodded, assuring him that everything was fine. Only then did Chu Jingtian breathe a sigh of relief, his tension finally fading.
