The Aloof Little Puppy Is Super Obedient - Chapter 33
The room was dim.
Zhou Nian sat on the sofa, staring blankly at his hollow home. For some reason, ever since Chu Jingtian left, the house had become incredibly cold and desolate. He stood up slowly and scanned the layout of the rooms. His eyes were tinged with red, and he felt at a loss as to how to deal with this reality.
Looking at the furniture today, a dull ache throbbed in his chest. He did not know how to face it. The emptiness was disorienting; he felt lost, unable to find a way to pull himself together. Why was the house so void of life? Why did it feel so much less vibrant than before?
Back when he was with Chu Jingtian, he had never faced such a situation. Seeing the chilling silence of the home now, he clenched his fists tightly. He felt troubled, his mind swirling with unwanted thoughts.
After driving Su Huaihuai away earlier that day, he had secluded himself in the room, sinking into a state of confusion. At first, he thought losing Chu Jingtian was no big deal, nothing to be flustered about. But now that Chu Jingtian was truly gone, he felt a profound sense of depression. He did not know how to stabilize his mood or face the days ahead.
He tried to tell himself that this was a minor thing, but the stifling weight in his chest was undeniable. He sighed, struggling to find a way to steady his heart. He could only look around and hope that focusing on his surroundings might improve his mood.
The stillness of the room reminded him of how, every time he used to return home, someone would be there waiting for him. Now, he only returned to a frigid, empty house. He did not know how much more of this he could endure.
He thought of how Chu Jingtian used to spend the entire day in this very room, waiting for his return. The memory made his chest tighten with guilt and frustration. Was this what waiting felt like? A slow, suffocating inability to stabilize one’s emotions?
It felt pathetic. Looking at the hollow house now, he found the situation almost laughable. He had expected to feel indifferent, even calm, about the separation. Instead, he found only coldness and a misery he was unprepared for.
He recalled thinking that without Chu Jingtian’s interference, the house would quickly return to a warm state. He never expected that without Chu Jingtian’s vitality, the home would become so lifeless and hollow. Zhou Nian found it ironic; he had once loathed coming back here, but now, it was the only place where his spirit felt anchored.
He walked into the kitchen and remembered Chu Jingtian preparing something sweet for him. In the past, he took it all for granted because he knew Chu Jingtian loved him so deeply and would never leave. Now that he realized how quickly time had passed and how much had changed, he felt a sense of ridicule. He did not know how to handle these feelings or how to keep his composure.
It was difficult for him. When Chu Jingtian first left, he had been excited, even looking for a way to celebrate his newfound freedom. He might have felt something for Chu Jingtian at the very beginning of their relationship, but as time went on, he realized that being with him brought no joy.
So why, now that Chu Jingtian was gone, did he feel so miserable? He decided he had to swallow these emotions. He could not let anyone see how he truly felt. He could not allow himself to rot over these messy feelings. He was a rational person; why should he be bothered by this?
He convinced himself that Chu Jindo would eventually regret leaving. Seeing Chu Jingtian in business circles so soon after the split must mean that Chu Jingtian could not let go of him. Clenching his hands, Zhou Nian forced himself to stabilize his breathing, repeating this thought over and over in his mind to keep the sadness at bay. He told himself that maintaining his composure was the only path to happiness.
Once he felt steady, he stopped panicking. He realized that getting worked up over such a thing was beneath him.
After heading out with Su Jingyang, Chu Jingtian began to relax. They went to an amusement park. Standing there, Chu Jingtian watched the bustling crowds with a smile. Sometimes, places meant for children could trigger the fondest memories.
“Do you remember the photo we took over there when you were little? You were crying your eyes out,” Chu Jingtian teased.
Su Jingyang’s face flushed with embarrassment. He did not know how to respond to the sudden walk down memory lane. “Alright, Brother, I get it. Can you please stop mentioning it? Let’s just forget about the past.”
Su Jingyang felt awkward and unsure of how to explain himself to Chu Jingtian. Hearing it brought up again was embarrassing, and he did not know where to look. Chu Jingtian laughed at his brother’s reaction and patted him on the back.
“You little rascal! I didn’t think you’d still find that embarrassing. I thought you’d have outgrown that by now,” Chu Jingtian said with a shake of his head. He had assumed Su Jingyang had forgotten those old stories.
“I mean, it was embarrassing when it happened,” Su Jingyang admitted, “but looking back on those stories now, it’s actually quite nice.”
It was true. What seemed ridiculous or embarrassing years ago felt heartwarming in hindsight. Even if they did not know how to handle those moments at the time, remembering them brought a sense of joy now. Regardless, it did not negatively affect their current mood.
Chu Jingtian sat down on a nearby bench while Su Jingyang went to use the restroom. Sitting there, he watched the people around him. Amusement parks had a unique charm; they drew children in with laughter and created lasting memories for everyone. Things that were mortifying in childhood lost their sting in adulthood. Back then, one did not know how to stabilize their emotions, but now, such things were minor.
Chu Jingtian sighed softly and pushed those old memories back into his heart. He did not want to dwell on the past anymore.
As he looked ahead, his face suddenly went pale. He saw Zhou Nian. He was confused, unable to understand why Zhou Nian would be at an amusement park. If he remembered correctly, Zhou Nian had once told him that this was the place, he hated most in the world.
Seeing him there made Chu Jingtian’s hands tighten. But after a few seconds, he realized something important.
There was no longer any connection between them. Why should he feel awkward? Why should he feel the need to hide? Realizing this, he felt a bit silly for his initial reaction, though a sense of helplessness remained.
Regardless, the encounter was incredibly awkward. He felt frustrated that he was even letting such a minor thing affect his control over his emotions.
