The Aloof Little Puppy Is Super Obedient - Chapter 34
Chu Jingtian felt a wave of awkwardness wash over him. Sometimes he believed he had fully moved on, but when truly faced with the past, he realized he still lacked the courage to confront it head-on. Despite the mental preparation he had given himself, he felt like a cowardly fugitive at this moment, instinctively looking for a way to run.
He did not understand why he was being so timid, or why he felt so incapable of facing this. His fear was palpable, and he struggled to stabilize his racing emotions. He could only clench his hands and bury these feelings deep inside, unable to voice them aloud. He felt that only by internalizing this turmoil could he eventually let it dissolve.
Why did he feel this way? When had he become such a frightened child, always running from the truth? He thought he had hidden these emotions well enough to stop being afraid, yet here he was, trembling and unsure of how to let go. He tried to give himself a silent therapy session, hoping to steady his heart so that fear would no longer paralyze him.
While Chu Jingtian was struggling with his internal panic, Zhou Nian was wandering nearby, feeling aimless and unsure of what he was even doing there. Despite his attempt at composure, a heavy, suffocating feeling lingered in his chest. He could not define these emotions; he only knew they felt like a dull ache that refused to subside.
Zhou Nian was confused by his own agitation. He thought he had gained control over his heart, yet his emotions seemed to be spiraling out of his grasp. He took a deep breath, trying to stop his mind from racing. He needed to swallow his pride and his fear so they would no longer bind him. Only then could he be the light of his own life, free from the constraints of the past. He told himself he should not wrong himself any longer; he was the master of his own destiny.
As Zhou Nian walked forward, he felt a sudden sense of familiarity, as if a well-known figure had just passed him by. He frowned, scanning his surroundings. Although the environment was unfamiliar, the air seemed to carry a scent he remembered—the only scent in his life he could never truly forget.
Following this trace, he began to run. Halfway through the crowd, he spotted a figure. He stopped, stunned. It was Chu Jingtian. Seeing him sitting there, Zhou Nian felt a mixture of shock and panic.
“Why are you sitting here?” Zhou Nian asked, looking at Chu Jingtian with genuine confusion.
Chu Jingtian, who had been lost in his own thoughts, frowned at the sound of the voice. He turned and saw a face he knew all too well. His hands tightened instantly. He looked at the man with utter exasperation, unable to fathom what he was thinking.
“Are we close? Why are you following me? It seems like no matter where I go, I run into you,” Chu Jingtian snapped. “I’ve been sitting here this whole time. You can’t possibly claim I’m the one following you. If you don’t believe me, ask anyone else if I followed you here or if I came on my own.”
Chu Jingtian glared at Zhou Nian, his anger rising at the man’s sudden appearance. Zhou Nian clenched his fists, confused by the sharp change in Chu Jingtian’s demeanor.
“Chu Jingtian, how did you become like this? You weren’t like this when we were together.”
Chu Jingtian’s frown deepened. Hearing those words made him feel physically ill. He had no interest in whatever Zhou Nian was trying to pull.
“What is it you want? If you have something to say, say it directly. Don’t try to disgust me with that talk; I have no desire to hear it.”
Chu Jingtian looked at him with disdain. In the past, it was always Zhou Nian who sought him out just to cause trouble or make his life difficult. He could not understand what point Zhou Nian was trying to make by hovering around him now. Their relationship had shattered long ago. Did he think it was possible to mend things now? To Chu Jingtian, the idea of a reconciliation was simply ridiculous. They had missed their chance; trying to go back now would be a joke.
“I don’t know what you’re trying to achieve, but let me be very clear about one thing,” Chu Jingtian said firmly. “I have no intention of discussing anything with you. I made my decision the moment I left.”
His gaze was resolute, wanting nothing more than for Zhou Nian to disappear. Just as the irritation reached its peak, he saw a familiar figure approaching. It was Su Jingyang.
Su Jingyang’s expression soured the moment he saw Zhou Nian. “Why are you here? My brother has already cut ties with you. Why are you still showing up to cause him trouble?”
He was baffled by Zhou Nian’s audacity. Even after the situation had been made clear, the man still had the thick skin to seek Chu Jingtian out.
Zhou Nian looked at the two of them, his eyes filling with disbelief. “I didn’t realize that so soon after our divorce, you would already have a new lover. How pathetic.”
Chu Jingtian stared at Zhou Nian, shocked by the sheer malice in his words. He felt a surge of anger at the vicious accusation. He took a slow breath to steady himself.
“I don’t care what you think, but I will tell you this: I will not let you slander me like that.”
Chu Jingtian looked at Zhou Nian with pure exasperation. He was nothing like Zhou Nian, who had been unfaithful and had found someone else almost immediately while they were still together. He truly didn’t understand how Zhou Nian could be so hypocritical. Chu Jingtian didn’t care about the past anymore, but being confronted with such a ridiculous accusation made him feel incredibly frustrated.
