- Chapter 18 - Scumbag Looking for Trouble? Not Afraid
Hearing Zhou Nian speak like that, Chu Jingtian noticed his volatile emotions and quickly stepped back a few paces, looking at him sternly.
“What are you trying to do? Do you want to hit me in a public place?” Chu Jingtian looked at Zhou Nian with a mocking expression.
“I am your husband!” Zhou Nian shouted.
“Everyone, look! We are already divorced, yet he keeps stalking me and won’t let me go!” Chu Jingtian called out.
Hearing Chu Jingtian’s words, nearby people quickly gathered around to watch the scene unfold. Without feeling the least bit embarrassed, Chu Jingtian suddenly knelt on the ground and began to weep, explaining the situation to the onlookers. When the crowd learned that Zhou Nian had cheated and that they were already divorced—yet Zhou Nian was still harassing him—they began to discuss and criticize Zhou Nian’s behavior.
Listening to the surrounding chatter, Chu Jingtian slowly stood up. The thing Zhou Nian cared about most was his “face.” Chu Jingtian truly could not understand him. He was someone who could not achieve much, yet he always wanted to steal the spotlight in front of others.
In the past, when Zhou Nian first appeared before him and said those sweet words, Chu Jingtian had been moved enough to start a relationship with him. He had been willing to be with Zhou Nian, but he never expected that time together would be the most pathetic period of his life.
Looking at the man before him now, Chu Jingtian felt only grievance and quickly vented to the people around them. Onlookers rushed over to hear the gossip.
“I didn’t expect such a handsome guy to do something like that. This person is truly something else. You really cannot judge a book by its cover.”
“…”
Hearing the heavy criticism from the crowd, Zhou Nian frowned. He never expected the bystanders to react this way.
“What are you all talking about? Why are you listening to this person’s nonsense?”
The crowd, seeing Zhou Nian’s defensive outburst, began to condemn him even more fiercely. People in today’s society generally despise those who cheat. For a cheater to have the nerve to argue with their original partner in public was beyond words.
The onlookers naturally sympathized with the weaker party, and since Chu Jingtian had been betrayed by Zhou Nian, the crowd was bound to scold him. Seeing Zhou Nian surrounded and criticized by so many people, a smile slowly appeared in Chu Jingtian’s eyes. He truly did not understand what Zhou Nian was thinking. He had not intended to look for trouble, yet Zhou Nian had insisted on finding him just to cause a scene.
However, he was sorry to say that he was no longer the Chu Jingtian from the time they were together. The current Chu Jingtian lived an independent life and was not that old version of himself.
As Chu Jingtian walked away, the two behind him tried to chase after him but were blocked by several people in the crowd.
“You have the nerve to try and leave? Stand right there!”
Soon, Zhou Nian and his companion were completely pinned down by the crowd.
Chu Jingtian walked away happily, though he was unaware that this incident had already started trending online. After spending the afternoon shopping, he was in high spirits. But when he returned home, he immediately felt a different, heavy atmosphere. He could not quite figure out what had happened or why the air at home felt so oppressive.
“Mom, Dad, are you home?” Chu Jingtian asked, puzzled by the tension.
As he walked over to sit down, his parents approached him with faces full of worry. Chu Jingtian’s cheerful mood stood in stark contrast to their distress.
“Mom, Dad, what is wrong? You look so unhappy.”
The couple looked at Chu Jingtian and, seeing him ask, forced a smile. They led him to the side and began to ask some subtle, hesitant questions. Chu Jingtian was genuinely confused, not understanding what was on their minds.
“Mom, Dad, if there is something on your mind, just tell me. Why hide it?”
Seeing them so nervous and cold, he felt helpless. He tried to calm his mother down first and looked at them. “Your son is fine now. If something is bothering you, just say it. Do not hide things in your heart or feel like you owe me something and are too embarrassed to speak.”
“Then, if we say it, you will not be angry? If you are going to be angry, we definitely will not say it.”
The couple was clearly afraid. Chu Jingtian could not understand why they were being so mysterious.
“Alright, just say it. Do not be so flustered; it is making me confused.”
Hearing him say this, they finally revealed what they were hiding. Chu Jingtian listened and then laughed. “Mom, Dad, I really did not expect you to think I would be angry over something so simple.”
He felt quite helpless. “Do you not know? I did that at the mall to gain sympathy. If I did not act that way, how would people know how miserable I have been?”
Chu Jingtian explained everything that had happened that day. When his parents learned that he was not actually angry or heartbroken, they finally breathed a sigh of relief. Knowing that he truly had nothing to do with that scumbag anymore made them very happy. As parents, as long as their son had no connection to that man, they were content.
“Son, you should have cut ties with that scumbag long ago. He was always deceiving your feelings. We saw his true colors a long time ago!”
The couple spoke in harmony, and seeing them like this, Chu Jingtian could not help but smile. Just as the family was enjoying this harmonious moment, there was a knock at the door. Zhao Qingya went to open it and found Su Jingyang standing there.
Seeing Su Jingyang, she quickly invited him in. Chu Jingtian, who had been chatting with his father, looked at the person entering with a smile.
“Aren’t you busy at the company? Shouldn’t you be busy with family matters? How do you have time to come play at our house?”
Su Jingyang looked puzzled. “Is Big Brother Jingtian not welcoming me?”
Hearing this, Chu Jingtian quickly waved his hand and explained, and Su Jingyang’s hurt expression vanished.
“Then, Brother, I want to ask you something. Jingtian, I saw you and that scumbag on the trending searches. What is the relationship between you two now?”
Chu Jingtian repeated what he had just told his parents. Learning that Chu Jingtian was fine and had even fired back at the man, Su Jingyang finally relaxed.
Chu Jingtian did not want to linger downstairs, so he took Su Jingyang to his room and told him to feel free to sit and read. Since Su Jingyang was now an adult, Chu Jingtian was not quite sure how to interact with him; sometimes it felt a bit awkward. They had not talked for many years, so there was still a sense of unfamiliarity between them.
Su Jingyang was aware of this as well. He watched Chu Jingtian with a smile. Since Chu Jingtian had work to do, he sat down at his desk and began to focus on his tasks. Su Jingyang watched Chu Jingtian’s hardworking silhouette and smiled. Seeing him work so diligently made him genuinely happy. He felt a deep sense of admiration, never expecting Chu Jingtian to be such a hard worker now.
So, one person slowly read a book while glancing at Chu Jingtian, while the other focused intently on the computer, not noticing the gaze from behind. After more than half an hour, Chu Jingtian finally finished everything. He stood up and stretched, feeling that he could finally relax. Being busy with all that work was exhausting, but finishing it brought a sense of relief.
