- Chapter 13 - Bossing Your Brother Around? Too Much!
After Chu Jingtian finished speaking, he simply ignored the man behind him and walked away.
Now, only Zhou Nian was left in the room. As he watched Chu Jingtian’s retreating back, shock flickered in his eyes. He never expected Chu Jingtian to leave so mercilessly. A wave of panic began to settle in his chest. Perhaps he had previously assumed Chu Jingtian was an easy target to bully.
Zhou Nian stood there, dazed and unsure of what to say. When Chu Jingtian had first married him, he hadn’t seen this much resolve in the man. He clenched his fists tightly. But as he thought about the tactics Chu Jingtian was using, a smirk slowly returned to his lips. Chu Jingtian wanted to defeat him? There was no way.
Zhou Nian wasn’t a fool; to him, these were just standard business maneuvers. Besides, his company controlled 50% of the raw materials for Chu Jingtian’s firm. If Chu Jingtian wanted to turn against him now, he’d have no chance. Zhou Nian had planned everything out long ago to ensure he held the decision-making power.
Chu Jingtian returned to his office to find Zhang Yang already there.
Seeing Zhang Yang sitting on the sofa, Chu Jingtian smiled. He sat down across from him and poured a cup of tea for his friend.
Zhang Yang looked at him and chuckled. “I didn’t expect you to be so decisive in handling things. When I heard you standing up to that guy, I thought you looked incredibly cool.”
Zhang Yang was genuinely happy. Watching Chu Jingtian use his authority to push back against those people was a sight to behold. Chu Jingtian gave a helpless smile and laughed along.
“It was just a simple matter. They were using underhanded tactics, and I just corrected the issues. Our company isn’t a charity. We built their firm up; why should we have to walk on eggshells around them?”
Their company held the lion’s share of the power; there was no reason to let a smaller firm walk all over them. The thought of those people trying to suppress his company still made Chu Jingtian feel a surge of anger.
Zhang Yang patted Chu Jingtian on the back. “I admire your grit. But you should know that handling this is still a bit tricky. Their company currently supplies some of our raw materials. If we break things off entirely, it will take some time to transition.”
Severing ties would require specific conditions and time. The dispute over raw materials was complex, and losing that supply could pose a significant threat to their operations.
“Do you remember? We were supposed to renew the contract today. Renewal comes with conditions. If they fail to deliver goods according to the regulations, they are in breach of contract. We can apply for termination immediately.”
Chu Jingtian quickly pulled out other documents and checked the timelines. If the other company failed to provide the stock, they would be violating the agreement. The consequence of such a violation would be the total dissolution of their relationship, stripping the other firm of any rights or leverage. Once the renewal was cancelled, they would be two separate entities, and his company would never seek a partnership with them again.
Zhang Yang gave a thumbs up, stunned by how “decisive” Chu Jingtian had become. “I really didn’t expect you to handle this so efficiently. You fixed the problem in one go.”
Chu Jingtian smiled.
“Our company is lucky to have you. You’re the core of this team. Thank you for helping the company move out of those dark shadows.”
Zhang Yang beamed, seeing Chu Jingtian finally step into the light. It pained him to see his friend immersed in gloom for so long. While most people would need a long time to recover, Chu Jingtian seemed to have found his footing in just a few minutes.
“It’s no big deal,” Chu Jingtian replied.
The two friends spent a long time chatting in the office. After Zhang Yang left, Chu Jingtian returned to his desk to dive back into work. For him, everything now had to be strictly professional, with no special favors granted. Business was business, and the workplace was no place for personal entanglements.
As he worked, a smile touched his lips. He realized he had taken a massive step forward, finally breaking free from the emotional shackles that had bound him. Previously, those feelings had kept him from entering the professional world and reclaiming his drive. Now, he knew that as long as he pushed through, he wouldn’t be distracted by idle thoughts or let his work suffer.
By lowering the intensity of his emotions, he could focus clearly. He used to find these tasks tedious, but now he found the time passed quickly. It turned out that letting go of a relationship was easier than he thought, as long as he put the “messy” things aside.
Chu Jingtian stayed in the office all day, and even after regular hours, he continued to work overtime.
It was after midnight when his phone suddenly rang.
Beyond the Wumeng Mountains lies another peak… Moonlight bathes the Xiangshui Rapids…
Chu Jingtian quickly answered the call. A raspy voice came through the line.
“Brother Jingtian.”
Chu Jingtian’s brow furrowed in confusion. “Why are you calling me at this hour? It’s past midnight. Haven’t you gone to sleep? You should be resting.”
Before he could finish, Su Jingyang interrupted him. “Brother Jingtian, are you still at the office?”
“How did you know?” Chu Jingtian was shocked. He had no idea how the younger man knew he was still working.
“Because I saw that your car isn’t back yet. Brother Jingtian, you have to listen to me. You need to take care of your body. Don’t keep working overtime like this, or your health will…”
Su Jingyang went on a long-winded rant, his voice full of heartache. Seeing Chu Jingtian bury himself in work immediately after recovering made his heart ache.
Chu Jingtian felt a bit helpless. “You have the nerve to lecture me? I’m working overtime to handle company proposals. What are you doing up so late? Are you playing thief?”
He was truly exasperated. Su Jingyang was lecturing him, yet the boy hadn’t gone to sleep either. Su Jingyang felt equally frustrated, not knowing how to make Chu Jingtian see reason.
“Alright, you brat, stop worrying about me. I know how to take care of myself at the office. I’m not going to let my health collapse.” Chu Jingtian stated his condition firmly over the phone. He knew his own limits and wouldn’t be easily worn down. He just wanted Su Jingyang to stop worrying.
Su Jingyang, hearing this, didn’t know what else to say. Every time Chu Jingtian steered the conversation away, he felt at a loss. He knew how stubborn Chu Jingtian could be.
“Chu Jingtian, can you please pay attention to your health? You finally divorced and escaped those dark days; if you treat yourself like this now, how can you face your own body?” Su Jingyang’s voice rose with a hint of anger.
“…”
Before Su Jingyang could say another word, Chu Jingtian hung up the phone.
Su Jingyang stared at the screen in shock. He hadn’t expected to be cut off so abruptly.
