The Abused Heroine Stops Pretending [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 74.2
“What should we do now?” Zhou Tiantian asked, though she had no intention of going to rescue them. Besides, they had more people on their side and were surely stronger in combat. There was no need for them to intervene.
“Let’s rest,” Tang Jing said.
It was just one zombie. Chen Chang’s group had numbers on their side, dealing with a single zombie would be easy. They didn’t need help.
“Oh,” Zhou Tiantian replied hesitantly. Though she still felt a little worried for the others, she didn’t make any further moves.
Tang Jing double-checked the ropes binding her senior sister, ensuring they were secure, then pulled out a bench to lie down, using her bag as a pillow.
Zhou Tiantian mimicked her but found lying down uncomfortable. She got up, planning to spend the night slumped over the table instead.
Then, a scream pierced the night.
Tang Jing, who had been about to rest, bolted upright and rushed to the back window of the main hall. A light had turned on where Chen Chang and the others were, and the sound of furniture being overturned echoed intermittently.
This commotion wasn’t something a single ordinary zombie could cause.
Tang Jing only hesitated for a moment before making a decision. “Stay here. I’ll go check it out.”
Zhou Tiantian’s first instinct was to glance at the bound senior sister in the chair just in time to meet those cold, pale eyes staring back. A shiver ran down her spine, her hair standing on end. She shook her head frantically. “No, I don’t want to stay here. I’ll go with you.”
“Hah.” Xu Yushu let out a low growl from the chair, as if saying she wanted to go too.
In the end, Tang Jing had no choice. She untied Xu Yushu from the chair, fastened the rope around her own waist, and said, “Let’s go.”
The courtyard gate creaked open. The sky had darkened completely, and with or without fog, visibility was equally poor.
Fortunately, Chen Chang’s group had a light on, allowing the three of them to grope their way over.
As they got closer, the noises from inside the house grew louder.
“Hah.” Xu Yushu let out a low snarl toward the house, her entire body tensed in full alert.
The commotion inside stopped. A childish voice cried out.
“Lou Jing.” Chen Chang’s hoarse voice came from inside. “Is that you, Lou Jing?”
“Sister Lou, help us!” another voice, choked with tears, pleaded.
“You, you need to be careful,” Chen Chang warned urgently. “This zombie is fast.”
As he spoke, the zombie inside the house crawled out.
It was a child about one year old, with pale pupils and black veins crawling across his face, looking quite eerie.
His gaze was fixed tightly on Xu Yushu, and his throat emitted low, threatening growls from time to time.
Xu Yushu took a step toward him, and the little zombie shrank back in fear.
Zhou Tiantian’s eyes lit up as she grabbed Tang Jing’s arm and said, “Ah Jing, this zombie is afraid of Senior Sister.”
Tang Jing recalled that in the novel, Senior Sister later became the Zombie Emperor, so this one was clearly no ordinary zombie.
Xu Yushu’s mouth was sealed with tape, her hands bound with rope by Tang Jing, and even her freedom was restricted Tang Jing had tied a rope around her waist to keep her in place. Seeing her eager to step forward and fight, Tang Jing hesitated over whether to untie her.
She was afraid that if she did, Senior Sister might attack them or worse, run away.
Back when Senior Sister still had her sanity, she had tied herself to the bed frame to resist the urge to eat humans, even holding a razor blade, ready to end her life at any moment.
The moment Tang Jing decided to take Senior Sister with her, she had resolved to protect her. Now that Senior Sister had no self-control, she was even more unwilling to let her take risks.
“Senior Sister, I’ll handle this.” Tang Jing stepped forward, raising the firewood chopper in her hand.
Sensing danger, the little zombie hissed and clawed at the ground, a sign of an impending attack.
Xu Yushu roared, and the little zombie froze, its growls weakening.
Seizing the opportunity, Tang Jing quickly pulled out a rope from the side pocket of her backpack and tied the little zombie up.
Just then, Chen Chang and the others emerged, looking disheveled. Spotting the bound little zombie on the ground, they asked, “Why didn’t you kill it?”
Gao Tian stormed out of the house, gripping a knife, furious. “I’ll kill this little monster!”
Tang Jing remained silent, but Chen Chang restrained him first, visibly angry. “Gao Tian, if you keep this up, we’re going our separate ways.”
“I—” Gao Tian panted heavily, quickly calming down, but his glare at the little zombie remained hostile.
“Did someone get scratched by the little zombie just now?” A girl with a bob cut stepped forward.
At her words, the group scattered in alarm, eyeing each other warily, afraid that someone among them might have been infected.
“If you were scratched, you’d better step forward now.”
“I wasn’t.”
“Me neither.”
Eventually, all eyes landed on Gao Tian. Sensing the shift in atmosphere, he tore his gaze from the little zombie and noticed the strange looks directed at him. Bewildered, he asked, “What’s going on?”
The girl with the bob cut, Fan Xuelan, said grimly, “Gao Tian, you were scratched by the zombie.”
“No, I wasn’t!” Gao Tian raised his arm. “This was from the table earlier!”
But no one believed him.
The wound on his arm was clearly a scratch and the little zombie’s claws were still stained with blood.
Tang Jing was the first to react. “Let’s go inside first.”
With all the noise they’d made, standing at the entrance was too dangerous. If zombies emerged from the mist, they’d be caught completely unprepared.
After the door was shut, everyone let out a sigh of relief, their tense hearts finally settling. The recent struggle had left them exhausted, and they slumped to the ground, uncaring of how dirty it was. They had narrowly escaped death, their lives hanging by a thread.
“Gao Tian.” Chen Chang’s expression was complicated. He didn’t want his roommate to be infected by the zombies, but if it really happened, deciding how to handle the situation would be agonizing.
His gaze drifted to Xu Yushu, and he wondered if he should carry Gao Tian around like Lou Jing’s senior, just in case.
“Chen Chang, you have to believe me, I really wasn’t bitten!” Gao Tian clutched his roommate’s arm in panic, terrified of being abandoned. But when he thought about the origin of the wound on his arm, his fear twisted into rage. “You, it’s all your fault! If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t have been caught!”
Chen Chang’s eyes widened in disbelief.
Fan Xuelan knew Gao Tian had always been erratic, but she never expected him to spiral into outright delusion. “Gao Tian, have you lost your mind?”
“Yes, I’ve lost it! Hahaha.” Gao Tian burst into maniacal laughter, rolling up his sleeve to reveal the wound. “Yes, I was caught! But if it weren’t for all of you, it wouldn’t have been me! It should’ve been you!”
The others were stunned. “Gao Tian, you’ve truly gone mad!”
