- That Stupid, Pretentious Young Master Deserves To Be Punished
- Chapter 18 - Setting the Trap
Tianji was a company founded by Shen Jia Yu and several other young heirs, and its business partially overlapped with theirs. Recently, they had also snatched several contracts right out from under Tianji’s nose.
However, business competition was always about the survival of the fittest.
Si Xuan did not feel much about losing staff; he viewed it as normal commercial rivalry. After all, it was the same industry, and there were only so many clients, so friction and disputes were inevitable.
“Well, we will have to work hard these days. The Mengtai app is only half written, and we have to start online testing next month,” the senior partner said, patting them both on the shoulder.
Wang Hao wailed, “School work is already heavy, and now we have to code all night. My girlfriend is threatening to break up with me.”
Si Xuan comforted him: “Just bear with it. Let us divide the work.”
Wednesday, Mercedes.
Under the dim lights, accompanied by restless drumbeats, the clamorous music and sticky, humid air blended together. The magnificent lights mixed with swirling smoke, making the entire enclosed space ambiguous and blurred.
Shen Jia Yu walked through the lobby and entered the private inner area. The commotion made him frown unconsciously; he only breathed a slight sigh of relief once he reached the private room and closed the door.
“Second Young Master, you are here.” A deep male voice rang out, laced with delight. The previously rowdy room fell silent immediately; several people hurriedly stubbed their cigarettes into ashtrays and poured drinks over them.
A few familiar faces sat in the room, along with some he had never met, and unopened bottles were arranged on the table. Shen Jia Yu looked around the circle and nodded at them.
The people in the booth automatically made room for him, clearing a center seat. Shen Jia Yu dropped his gaze, his expression indifferent, and strode over with his long legs.
“You guys are unbelievable. Did you not see a living person right here?” Wang Yue pouted, sitting down next to Shen Jia Yu. Others laughed and joked, “How could we? Who could forget you, Young Master Zhang?”
As soon as he sat down, someone hurried to pour Jia Yu a drink. Wang Yue quickly intervened, “Do you not know we have a dinner party later? Why are you pouring? Do not spoil the fun.” Hearing this, those people sat back down with expressions of regret.
Qian Meng set down his glass and roared toward the door: “Quick, bring some soft drinks in here.” Then, he looked at Shen Jia Yu with a beaming smile, “Second Young Master, long time no see. You have not lost your charm at all.”
Jia Yu lifted his eyes and gave him a look. “You look good too.” Qian Meng was his high school classmate who had gone abroad after graduation.
“Meng Zi, why are you suddenly back in the country now? School has not started its break yet, right?” Wang Yue opened several cans of soda, poured them into glasses, and handed one to Shen Jia Yu.
“Oh, do not ask. My old man suddenly got seriously ill. The rest of my family came back, so I had to be a team player.”
Wang Yue poured Qian Meng a glass of alcohol and clinked it against his glass. “Speaking of which, has your old man’s will been finalized?” He took a sip.
Qian Meng swirled his glass. “Do not ask. The old man is still making a scene wanting to redo it; the whole thing is a total mess. Anyway, Second Young Master, have you been doing well lately?”
Shen Jia Yu sat with his legs crossed, his hand resting on the back of the sofa, a cigarette clamped in his mouth. Wang Yue lit it for him. Shen Jia Yu squinted, took a drag, and exhaled a smoke ring. He said faintly, “Just the same as always. What else could there be?”
“Wang Yue told me that some poor kid has been going against you lately. Why not let me deal with him for you? It is rare that I am back in the country; naturally, I have to prepare a gift for the Second Young Master.” Qian Meng’s mouth curled into a smile as he stared fixedly at Jia Yu’s eyes. Watching the Second Young Master smoke, he felt an inexplicable itch in his own mouth.
It was truly impossible to see the Second Young Master at any time without being struck by his face all over again.
“Forget it,” Shen Jia Yu flicked the ash. “It is not high school anymore; do not play those games.” Qian Meng’s family background was complicated, involving dark underworld forces. In high school, he was a lawless king of chaos with dirty, underhanded tactics. Shen Jia Yu had always looked down on that style.
Hearing this, Qian Meng immediately acted aggrieved. “The Second Young Master dislikes me? How heartbreaking. But, as the saying goes, classics are immortal. If the Second Young Master needs me, it is just a word away.”
“You are being selective here. Why does it take several calls for me to get a hold of you, and even then, you are either in bed or have a time difference?” Wang Yue complained, setting down his glass and shooting a cold look at Qian Meng.
Qian Meng quickly stood up, holding a soda bottle to pour into Wang Yue’s glass. “How could that be? Young Master Yue’s business is my business. Come, let me pour a glass for Young Master Yue.”
Wang Yue was amused. “I say, Meng Zi, you are quite interesting. Can you even have this much fun with soft drinks?”
“I just missed Young Master Yue and the Second Young Master,” Qian Meng said, filling Shen Jia Yu’s glass again.
“Speaking of which, who is that next to you? Why not introduce us?”
Wang Yue’s eyes locked onto the young man clinging tightly to Qian Meng’s side. In the dim light, he noticed the man’s eyes looked half like the Second Young Master’s.
Wang Yue’s heart sank, though he did not show it on his face. Ever since high school graduation, those hidden, restless ambitions had started jumping again.
“Is this the little lover you have been hiding overseas? Why are you two so intimate? You even have to stick together when you come back to the country?”
Qian Meng was startled, instinctively glancing at Shen Jia Yu. Seeing the Second Young Master’s expression was normal, his pounding heart calmed slightly. “We just happened to bump into each other. We have only dated a few times; we are not close.”
Wang Yue laughed at that. “Not close? You still bring him to drink with us? I thought you were introducing a sister in law to everyone.”
The people around them also joined in, teasing, “That is right, Young Master Qian, introduce us. I thought you liked women, but I did not expect you to be bisexual! Bringing a sister in law along, you are really going for it.”
Qian Meng’s face turned ugly. This little lover was just someone he kept for fun. He did not know how the guy found out about the person he had always admired in his heart, but he had actually shown up unannounced and danced right in front of the original owner. If the Second Young Master discovered his secret little thoughts, he would want to strangle the guy right now.
“Sister in law, I heard you are an actor. Introduce yourself,” Wang Yue said, looking at the man with interest. He just wanted to watch the show.
“I, my name is Jiale.” He bit his lip, his fair cheeks flushing. He genuinely liked a man like Qian Meng, rough, rebellious, and bad. When he found out he was being kept, he had secretly cheered for a long time.
Even though Qian Meng was very violent in bed, he had fallen deeper and deeper, until he learned about the person enshrined in Qian Meng’s heart. Even the fearless Young Master Qian did not dare to cross that line. So, he had gritted his teeth and followed him directly.
Ever since that Second Young Master Shen walked through the door, Jiale knew exactly who was enshrined in Qian Meng’s heart.
As soon as he walked in, he attracted everyone’s gaze. So glorious and noble, no one else could even be glanced at. That innate arrogance and nobility made everyone else look like mere scenery.
People in the room saw Jiale acting like a little quail and teased, “Sister in law, so shy? We do not eat people, what are you afraid of?”
Qian Meng’s face darkened. “Alright, stop joking. Keep drinking. Let them bring a few more bottles of the liquor I have stored here.”
At this point, Wang Yue leaned into Shen Jia Yu’s ear and whispered: “Second Young Master, any thoughts?”
Shen Jia Yu raised an eyebrow. “What thoughts?”
“About Qian Meng finding a man.”
“Qian Meng is my brother. Whether he finds a man or a woman is none of my business. As long as he likes it, it is fine.” After chatting for a while, Shen Jia Yu felt the time was right. He checked his watch and turned to ask Wang Yue: “You have everything arranged?”
Wang Yue gave him a reassuring look. “Do not worry. I am on it, Second Young Master. Just put your heart at ease.”
Shen Jia Yu stood up. “We are leaving first. You guys keep drinking. Put it on my tab.”
Everyone in the room shouted: “The Second Young Master is generous!”
The two opened the door, ready to set off for Haiyuan Pavilion.
Seeing Shen Jia Yu’s new car, Wang Yue’s eyes lit up. “Whoa, a Maybach 62S. Why did the Eldest Young Master not provide a driver?”
“Do not be cheeky. It is my first time driving it too; I am just coming out to test the feel.” Taking the keys, Shen Jia Yu headed toward the driver’s seat.
Wang Yue snatched the keys with lightning speed, shaking them. “Let me do it. I would be too stressed if the Second Young Master were driving me. Let me have a turn, Second Young Master.” He opened the passenger door and bowed in an invitation.
When the two reached the private room, it was mostly full, including the other young heirs who had partnered with them to start the company right after high school.
Wansheng was a large entertainment and film company. It held many well known actors and celebrities, had produced several award winning queens and kings, and owned the copyrights to hundreds of famous film and television IPs.
Shen Jia Yu’s Tianji and Si Xuan’s Qinghe had both previously collaborated with Wansheng.
This time, Wansheng had a large Xianxia IP that was currently in talks with gaming companies to develop an online game together. And both Tianji and Qinghe had games as their primary business sector. Thus, both had their eyes on this prize, which naturally attracted several other well known gaming companies as well.
The moment Shen Jia Yu and Wang Yue appeared, they captured the entire room’s attention.
Opinions in the circle were mixed regarding the Second Young Master not inheriting the family business but choosing to start his own. Most people felt that the Second Young Master was just playing around, treating it like a hobby.
Wansheng CEO Han Linfeng personally stood up to greet them. “Second Young Master, thank you for coming all this way; we have been waiting for you.” He smiled kindly. He was around 35, gentle and elegant, refined and handsome. At first glance, one might mistake him for a university professor, but in reality, he was a deep, inscrutable smiling tiger.
“I was held up by something, so I will punish myself with a drink.” Shen Jia Yu opened a bottle, poured a glass, and tilted his head to gulp it down in front of the table. His Adam’s apple rolled, releasing a powerful aura in silence. The whole table went quiet, holding its breath.
Only when the sound of the glass hitting the table rang out was the pause button pressed, and the scene became lively again.
Han Linfeng looked at Shen Jia Yu’s slightly flushed face and could not help but marvel at the creator’s favoritism. If this perfect face of the Second Young Master appeared on the big screen, today’s top idols would all lose their jobs. It was true: the wealthy did not just have luxury in food and clothing; even the heirs were all extravagantly precious.
He laughed. “Refreshing, Second Young Master!”
Then, Wang Yue shook hands with Han Linfeng. “Since the Second Young Master drank on my behalf, I will refrain. Sorry, President Han, we are late.”
“Not late at all, just in time.”
Shen Jia Yu sat in his seat and scanned the room. His eyes darkened when he saw a certain person, then he silently looked away.
After some casual chatter, the atmosphere was just right.
Seeing the timing was right, Han Linfeng raised his red wine and clinked it against Shen Jia Yu’s. “Second Young Master, I have two friends who have always wanted to meet you. They have pestered me for a long time, but could not find an opportunity. Since we have the honor of being together today, could you show me some grace and allow me to introduce them?”
Shen Jia Yu showed no emotion and nodded. “Sure.”
Following this, the two sitting next to Han Linfeng stood up, holding red wine glasses, and appeared beside Shen Jia Yu with smiles.
It was a man and a woman, both dressed fashionably and beautifully. The man was cool and handsome, the woman was pure and pretty. “Greetings, Second Young Master.” They bowed and clinked glasses with Shen Jia Yu, then with Wang Yue.
“Hey, are you the actress from Huang Teng?” Wang Yue clearly recognized the face. The girl blushed slightly and nodded. “Yes, I did not expect Young Master Zhang to recognize me.”
Someone nearby said: “That is the one who won the Jingyu Award. I did not expect someone so young to be a film queen; truly, the younger generation is formidable. And the male singer next to her is the one who just won the Golden Melody Award, right? No wonder he looks so familiar.”
Han Linfeng smiled: “That is correct. It seems they still have some fame, thanks to my cultivation after all this time.”
“They look about the same age as the Second Young Master; all are doing great, young and promising. They are about to drive us old guys off the beach.”
“What are you saying, President Wang? You are in your prime. They cannot be compared to the Second Young Master. The Second Young Master started a company right after graduating from high school; they are still a few years older.”
Han Linfeng paused and gave them a wink. “You two should have a good drink with Second Young Master Shen and learn from the youth.”
The two poured their red wine, leaned over, and stood beside Shen Jia Yu, wearing polite smiles.
This time, Shen Jia Yu did not act. His eyes were deep, and he suddenly asked: “Wang Yue and I are probably not the youngest ones here, right?”
Everyone was stunned, then someone realized: “Oh, right. Is not President Si from the same school as the Second Young Master? I heard they are in the same year. Is he even younger than the Second Young Master?”
Wang Yue glanced at Shen Jia Yu and immediately took over the conversation: “Si Xuan is indeed a little younger than me and the Second Young Master.”
