- That Stupid, Pretentious Young Master Deserves To Be Punished
- Chapter 17 - Eye Contact
Shen Jia Yu returned to his room and collapsed onto the bed. Only in his room did he feel he could steal a moment of freedom and breathe. Once he stepped outside, it was a suffocating prison. He swore to break this cage and reclaim his freedom.
He pulled out his phone, and the notification badge showing 99+ messages was particularly striking. He frowned as he scrolled down, catching sight of the message from Wang Yue.
[Wang Yue: Second Young Master, next Wednesday at 8 PM, Haiyuan Pavilion. I found out that poor kid will definitely be there.] [Shen Jia Yu: Hmm.] [Wang Yue: Second Young Master, let us gather at Mercedes beforehand. Meng Zi and the others have not seen you in a long time; they miss you.] [Shen Jia Yu: Get lost, stop being so cheesy.] [Wang Yue: What do you mean? Are you coming or not? Come on, come on, Second Young Master.] [Shen Jia Yu: Hmm.] [Wang Yue: I am so touched. I told Meng Zi and the rest, and they are thrilled! Your humble servant is so grateful for this honor.] [Shen Jia Yu: Get lost!]
Jia Yu was about to close the chat app when a new message popped up.
[Ye Jin: Brother Jia Yu, are you free tomorrow? I finished the college entrance exam! There is a party tomorrow night, I would like to invite you…] [Shen Jia Yu: Not going.] [Ye Jin: Brother Jia Yu, then I would like to invite you alone to celebrate my escape from the sea of misery, is that okay? Brother Jia Yu.] [Shen Jia Yu: Fine, pick a time and send it to me.]
Ye Jin was Shen Jia Yu’s neighbor, two years younger. He had been clingy since childhood and was a very obedient, persistent kid.
They had been very close when they were young. Jia Yu’s deepest memory was an entire summer vacation where he could see Ye Jin sitting in the living room waiting for him every single morning. When he was a child, Jia Yu liked Legos, and Ye Jin had spent time piecing together an entire wall of them for him. Once, in an attempt to catch a beetle for him, the then eight year old had gotten lost in the mountains for three days.
He genuinely treated Ye Jin like a younger brother, filling the void of not having one himself.
Closing the app, Jia Yu stared at the screen, unsure of what to do. After sitting aimlessly for a while, he sighed and opened a video app. He scrolled randomly, clicked on a racing video, and ended up falling asleep while watching it.
Shen Youlin knocked on the door from outside. Receiving no response, he pushed it open and walked in. He rarely visited his brother’s room; as his brother grew older, his independence increased, and he would not even let servants enter to clean.
The room remained a mess. Clothes hung casually on the back of a chair, crumpled paper balls lay beside the trash can, and the desk was cluttered with an open book and scattered pens.
He had always known Shen Jia Yu was an outlier in the family. The entire family valued discipline and order, writing the phrase “abide by the rules” into their very DNA.
Although Shen Jia Yu had been frail and sickly as a child, he was cheerful and sunny, growing up to have a violent temper. If not for the exquisite beauty he inherited from the Shen family, it would be hard to believe he was of their bloodline.
At this moment, Shen Jia Yu was fast asleep, still clutching the phone playing the video. The light from the screen cast flickering shadows across his face, giving him an ethereal, unreal quality.
Shen Youlin reached out, took the phone, and locked the screen. He placed a set of brand new car keys on Jia Yu’s desk and left, closing the door behind him.
When Jia Yu woke up, finished washing up, and tidied his desk, he noticed the keys. He did not show much expression, simply tossing them into his bag along with his books and pens.
Si Xuan had just finished class, closed his notebook, and joined the crowd to head to his next lecture. As he reached the first floor, he noticed a massive crowd in the courtyard, all looking upward.
Ye Hao bumped Si Xuan’s shoulder and gestured toward the crowd. “Brother Xuan, let me see what is going on.” He walked into the throng, tapped a girl on the shoulder, and smiled brightly. “Classmate, do you know why there are so many people here?”
The girl turned her head, caught sight of Ye Hao, and whispered, “The campus heartthrob is upstairs!”
Ye Hao realized, turned back to wink at Si Xuan, and mouthed, “Come here quickly.”
Ye Hao was a classmate from his department and a partner in Si Xuan’s current company. He was refined and handsome, coming from a well to do family, though they were not in the A City elite circles, so he was a notch below the young masters Jia Yu ran with.
Si Xuan heard what the girl said, but he remained rooted to the spot.
By now, whether in the courtyard or the corridors of the building opposite, the area was teeming with people. All eyes were fixed on the second floor of the building Si Xuan was standing in front of.
The news that the campus heartthrob was attending a class at the Computer Science Department had spread like wildfire.
After a minute or two, the crowd below boiled over. Shen Jia Yu appeared on the second floor corridor. He clearly noticed the noisy crowd; he showed little expression, cast a cold glance downward, looked past them, and turned to leave.
Suddenly, his turning motion stuttered. As if noticing something, he turned back, looking down with cold, indifferent eyes.
Si Xuan, mixed into the crowded human tide, was looking up just like everyone else. Suddenly, he felt that thin, snowy gaze land on him.
The two made eye contact.
In an instant, the noise around them receded like a tide, and the entire scene blurred into the background. Only that pair of incredibly beautiful phoenix eyes was deeply carved into Si Xuan’s mind. Nothing but those eyes!
Si Xuan could not describe how he felt at that moment. His heart trembled, as if a seed had cracked its shell, the tremor of a seedling gathering strength to burst forth. Then, his heart, as if meeting a sweet rain, suddenly lost control, drumming wildly as if trying to tear itself out of his chest.
After only a few seconds, Shen Jia Yu withdrew his gaze with an expressionless face and turned toward the stairs.
Immediately afterward, the crowd below erupted into fervent cheering.
“Ah! A live campus heartthrob!”
“Hold me, damn, my heart is pounding so hard I might just drop dead…”
“Heartthrob, the Computer Science Department welcomes you!”
At University A, the name Shen Jia Yu was a legend.
It was hard to imagine someone possessing top tier status, money, and looks while also being talented, with an incredibly high artistic aptitude and international awards to his name. It was simply unbelievable. One could only say that some people were born to be protagonists.
A high altitude flower like him, a child of heaven, according to the script, should have gone abroad for advanced studies and returned with a halo of glory. Yet, no one expected Shen Jia Yu would actually stay in City A.
“Hey, Brother Xuan, come back to earth. The heartthrob is almost out of sight. You are staring like a fool. Let us go, we are going to be late.” Ye Hao patted Si Xuan’s shoulder, snapping him back to reality. He clutched his heart and nodded. “Let us go.”
For the rest of the lecture, Si Xuan was distracted. His head was filled with Shen Jia Yu.
For some reason, Shen Jia Yu exerted a natural attraction over him.
Even from hundreds of meters away, his blood boiled inexplicably, his heart raced, and every cell in his body clamored to submit, yearning to draw closer. This was very wrong for him; he had initially thought it was just the thrill of love at first sight.
But the more it happened, the stranger it felt. Even if the person were a goddess, he should not be in such a state. This was terrifying! He had to figure out exactly what was up with Shen Jia Yu.
After the class ended, Si Xuan drove his second hand Honda, carrying Ye Hao back to the incubator garden. They had started a company with a few seniors at the garden called Qinghe, specializing in game development and software engineering, while also dabbling in small apps and information consulting.
The Honda drove steadily on the national highway when, suddenly, a red Porsche 718 behind them started acting like a maniac, blaring its horn.
Noticing the Porsche’s erratic behavior, Si Xuan glanced at the rearview mirror. Oh, an acquaintance.
“It is Wang Feifei’s car.” Ye Hao in the passenger seat frowned with displeasure. Wang Feifei was a rich second generation kid from their department, and they had not gotten along from the start.
Recently, the freshman Wang Feifei was pursuing had confessed her feelings to Si Xuan. Wang Feifei had exploded, and now he was provoking them everywhere, high profile and arrogant.
Si Xuan showed no sign of agitation, changing lanes with a calm demeanor. Yet, the Porsche 718 stuck to them like chewing gum; wherever the Honda went, it followed.
The frenzied honking constantly assaulted the sensitive eardrums of nearby drivers. Seeing the luxury car, other drivers consciously veered away, keeping their distance.
Annoyed by the tinnitus, even the usually good tempered Wang Hao started cursing, “Damn, this idiot is taking it too far!”
The red Porsche trailed the black Honda closely. Wang Feifei gripped the steering wheel with a savage grin. “Si Xuan, that pauper, a toad wanting to eat swan meat, daring to snatch my woman.”
The man in the passenger seat laughed too. “Hahaha, Feifei, that is a brilliant move! I have wanted to fix this kid for a long time. Heartthrob? Genius? Pah! He is just a pretty boy from the gutter. Those bitches are blind; they do not see a rich, handsome man like you, Feifei.”
Wang Feifei’s eyes were cold and venomous, like a snake stalking the car ahead. He really wanted to slam on the gas and crash into the pauper.
The distance between the Porsche and the Honda was less than 3 meters. Suddenly, the black Honda in front made an emergency lane change, flashing to the left lane.
Wang Feifei’s vision had just lost the rear of the Honda when, the next moment, he saw the rear of a Rolls Royce Phantom. He had not even had time to react when, accompanied by a massive crash, he slammed straight into the Rolls Royce.
Bang!
Two luxury cars colliding was certainly enough to grab attention. The surrounding traffic speed dropped instantly, and drivers rolled down their windows, poking their heads out.
The Honda, having hidden its success and retreated, drove forward silently.
Wang Hao laughed until his mouth could not close. “I am dead. Brother Xuan, you are too devious, an old school schemer! Now Wang Feifei cannot honk his horn anymore; he is going to go broke paying for this! By the way, Brother Xuan, you changed lanes so many times, you did not do that just to pick a big gift for Wang Feifei, did you?”
“How could that be? I am a law abiding citizen, a moral model for the 21st century,” Si Xuan replied righteously.
“Oh…” Wang Hao thought, even a dog would not believe a punctuation mark of that sentence.
When they arrived at the incubator garden, Si Xuan had not even sat down before he was hit with a bombshell.
Their core development staff had been poached!
Si Xuan’s expression darkened. “Who poached them?”
A senior partner sighed. “Who else but Tianji? In our University A, only our two companies have the strongest growth momentum.”
Wang Hao looked devastated. “How can we compete with the rich kids from the heartthrob’s circle? Damn, the big talent we finally managed to poach has flown away again.”
