Superstar Assistant [GL] - Chapter 53
Chapter 53
The following fan-tasting session sent the atmosphere to a new high. As the ten lucky fans went up on stage and saw Li Ziyu picking up a dish of soy-colored tomato scrambled eggs and a plate of pitch-black twice-cooked pork, their expressions became quite a sight to behold.
The host wouldn’t let them off easily, asking, “You’ve probably seen Ziyu cook before. Is the color and plating always like this in person?”
The fans nodded repeatedly. A handsome male fan was handed the microphone and asked, “If you were asked to marry a wife with the same culinary skills as Ziyu, would you be willing?”
The male fan glanced at Li Ziyu, his face flushing instantly as he roared, “I’M WILLING! Ziyu, marry me!”
Before Li Ziyu could speak, the fans below started a commotion.
“NO!!!” “Ziyu belongs to us!”
Li Ziyu laughed immediately. “Well, I belong to everyone, so you can’t have me all to yourself.”
Only then did the host allow the group to step forward and taste the two dishes.
Initially, no one held much hope; after all, the colors looked even more impactful in reality than in the filtered videos. However, as soon as the food hit their tongues, everyone’s expressions changed!
Although the tomato eggs didn’t look great, they were sweet, sour, and appetizing, with a hint of soy sauce that made the flavor much more savory. The twice-cooked pork was so fragrant and delicious that they wished they had a bowl of rice to go with it!
The fans’ expressions were captured on the giant screen, causing the fans below who didn’t get a chance to taste to buzz with even more intensity.
“It can’t be fake, right? Would every single fan fake it?” “Watching them eat suddenly made me hungry. Why wasn’t I picked!” “I told you Ziyu’s ‘dark cuisine’ wasn’t a PR stunt. Now it’s confirmed!”
Following that was the sound of the audience swallowing their saliva. Who would have thought that at a fan meeting, people would be salivating over food? This must be a first in the entertainment industry!
And how “cruel” was their idol—only picking ten lucky fans to taste? Now the fans wanted to pick up little whips and drive Li Ziyu to stay there and cook for them forever. Who cares about idol-chasing when there’s delicious food?
The host couldn’t resist either, grabbing a pair of chopsticks. “Hey, let me try some too.”
After eating, he looked shocked yet helpless as he rubbed his forehead. “Ziyu, tell me quickly, why does such a ‘homely-looking’ dish taste so good!”
Li Ziyu said proudly, “Maybe because I’m so good-looking.”
This was met with a chorus of groans, with fans demanding that she keep cooking because they were starving!
Li Ziyu, however, said, “But it’s time for me to get off work.”
Her description of the fan meeting as “getting off work” didn’t cause any backlash; instead, the novel phrasing made the fans laugh again.
Finally, Li Ziyu said, “My assistant said today that with this segment, everyone would be famished by the end. So, I pulled in a sponsor to give everyone a box of pastries. There will be staff at every exit handing them out. Please stay safe, don’t crowd, and line up nicely on your way out.”
The fans were moved by this final perk and screamed in appreciation.
As the host brought the meeting to a close, the fans were reluctant to leave but felt very satisfied. One fan even joked, “I’m so hungry right now; no matter how pretty Ziyu is, she can’t fill my stomach. I’m going out to get my snacks!” Yet her eyes were full of happiness.
These pastries became a hot search topic that night because someone discovered they were the specialty of a very famous private kitchen restaurant—a plate of four usually costs 300 yuan.
Many fans bragged on Weibo: “Good heavens, what kind of idol did I stan? The 298 membership fee was worth it just for tonight’s pastries. They are incredibly delicious!!”
Others were worried: “I only knew they tasted good, but after looking it up and seeing they cost 300, I’m suddenly worried Ziyu’s fan club is going to lose money!! Should we open a renewal option early? I’m afraid she’ll lose so much money the club will close next year, and then how will I see my CP in person or eat such delicious snacks?”
From then on, no one on Weibo dared to say Li Ziyu’s fan club was a “cash grab,” as the benefits provided were worth far more than the membership fee.
Zhou Tiantian followed the comments backstage. The “Fan Love” app now had a forum where PR staff would occasionally post to guide fan discussions. Members would discuss things there first before posting on Weibo. Because these fans were part of the official club, they had more “authority” in the fandom, and non-members often followed their lead.
Thus, the fan club’s ability to guide public opinion became evident—the main goal of the company. With such success after only one month, other celebrities in the company began opening their own official fan clubs.
