Superstar Assistant [GL] - Chapter 52
Chapter 52
The host knew exactly what was going on the moment they saw the questions—Dong Minsi was here to cause chaos. They immediately handed over the “interrogation rights” to her. “Since Movie Queen Dong picked the questions, why don’t we let the Goddess herself do the honors?”
Dong Minsi gave a faint smile and shot Li Ziyu a mischievous look.
Li Ziyu raised an eyebrow, her expression clearly saying, Bring it on, I’m not afraid of you.
Dong Minsi asked the first question: “Ziyu, why is it that since Tiantian became your assistant, you’ve been so incredibly good to her, whereas you weren’t nearly as nice to your previous assistants?”
Li Ziyu’s gaze flickered toward Zhou Tiantian for a split second before she looked back at the camera. The affectionate look in her eyes instantly sent the audience into a screaming frenzy. “Because I like Tiantian, obviously. Right, everyone?”
The crowd roared in unison, “RIGHT!”
Dong Minsi’s brow twitched. “Wow. Confessing to Assistant Zhou like that… aren’t you afraid your fans will start seeing her as a love rival?”
Li Ziyu countered, “They look pretty excited to me. I doubt they’ll see her as a rival. Honestly, it’s you who looks a bit jealous right now.”
The fans burst into laughter again.
Dong Minsi shook her head and smilingly moved to the second question. “Ziyu, this fan feels that Assistant Zhou often acts like a bigger star than you do. Why would you hire an assistant who acts more like a diva than the actual celebrity?”
Li Ziyu looked at the camera again. “Because I like her.”
The same answer as before sent the atmosphere to a new high.
Dong Minsi shrugged and told the audience, “It seems that’s the universal answer today.”
Then she moved to the third question: “Ziyu, Assistant Zhou is currently pregnant, yet you’re still making her work. Do you actually like her or not?”
Li Ziyu replied, “Of course I like her. If I didn’t, why would I want a pregnant lady accompanying me all day long?”
Dong Minsi threw up her hands and faced the audience. “See? To all the fans shipping me and Ziyu: please disband immediately. There is no hope for us. Her heart belongs only to Zhou Tiantian, and I don’t want her either!”
…
Offstage, Zhou Tiantian felt the fan meet was spiraling out of control. She rubbed her forehead as Xiao Xu tried to comfort her. “Sister Tiantian, don’t worry… the fans probably just think Sister Ziyu is joking.”
Zhou Tiantian let out a long sigh. Xiao Xu added, “Should I contact the PR department right away?”
Zhou Tiantian shook her head. “There’s nothing left to ‘PR.’ She’s made it as clear as day. Now, we can only hope everyone thinks she’s just doing it for the sake of the show.”
Xiao Xu stole a glance at her. Having worked with them for so long, she knew they were a couple even if they hadn’t said it out loud—Li Ziyu was far too fond of showing off. However, Xiao Xu didn’t know the baby was Li Ziyu’s; she assumed Tiantian had been betrayed by some “scumbag” and then found true love with Ziyu.
“It’ll be fine,” Xiao Xu said. “Ziyu has never had any real scandals. The rational fans will back her up.”
Zhou Tiantian touched her ears, which were burning hot under her hair. To be honest, she wasn’t as angry as she was embarrassed. Ever since Li Ziyu said she “liked her” in front of thousands of people, her ears had been stubbornly red and hot.
…
After her segment, Dong Minsi went backstage to rest. The fan meet moved to the third stage: live cooking.
Li Ziyu first went viral because of her “dark cuisine,” and even after half a year, people on the internet still brought it up. The fans were dying to know what her cooking actually tasted like.
As the kitchenware was brought out, Li Ziyu began to cook with unhurried grace.
The host then brought out a box. “These are the ticket stubs from when you entered. We are going to draw 10 lucky fans to come up and taste Ziyu’s cooking!”
The fans were ecstatic.
The host asked Li Ziyu to draw the tickets, but she waved her hands. “My hands are busy right now. How about…” She looked offstage. “How about we let today’s other ‘leading lady’ come up and draw for us?”
The cameraman followed her gaze and focused the lens right on Zhou Tiantian. The fans immediately started screaming.
Seeing herself on the big screen, Zhou Tiantian—who previously only had red ears—now had a face flushed deep crimson. Her watery eyes looked at the screen with shy trepidation. She covered the lower half of her face with her hand, shaking her head and waving her other hand in refusal.
Li Ziyu, loving her bashful look, laughed. “Come on up. I was going to ask Sister Sisi, but we just cleared up our dating rumors, so it wouldn’t be appropriate to call her back. It’s best if my ‘main wife’ does it.”
The word “main wife” made Zhou Tiantian even more embarrassed, her face turning an extra shade of red.
Li Ziyu raised an eyebrow and teased, “If you don’t come up, I’m going to go backstage and act like a diva.”
Knowing Li Ziyu’s personality—that she was free-spirited and cared far less about her career than Tiantian did—Zhou Tiantian had no choice but to walk toward the stage.
As she started walking, Li Ziyu immediately told Xiao Xu, “Xiao Xu, help her up.”
Xiao Xu rushed to support Zhou Tiantian, truly making her look like a bigger star than the celebrity herself.
The host, caught off guard by the display, took a moment to recover before laughing. “Aha, it seems Ziyu and her assistant really do have a great relationship!”
Standing on stage, Zhou Tiantian was at a loss, constantly glancing at Li Ziyu.
Li Ziyu’s tone turned much gentler. “Draw ten people for me.”
The fans below held their breath, especially the “CP shippers.” They prayed, “Let it be me! I don’t even care about the food, I just want to be close to my ship. That would be explosive happiness!”
After Tiantian drew the ten names and the host read the seat numbers, the winners excitedly gathered at the side of the stage.
Zhou Tiantian thought she could leave now, but Li Ziyu started giving her orders again. “Come here and help me roll up my sleeves. They’re slipping.”
This was something Tiantian did for her at home all the time, so she walked over by reflex. It was only when the fans screamed that she realized what she was doing. She quickly rolled them up and tried to flee.
“You’re leaving already?” A mischievous glint sparked in Li Ziyu’s eyes. “I just confessed my love to you, why won’t you stay with me a little longer?”
The fans were losing their minds. Li Ziyu was way too good at flirting!
Zhou Tiantian’s face was so red she felt like steam was rising from her head. She gave a mock-angry glare. “It’s your fan meet, not mine. I don’t want to stay with you!”
As soon as she said it, the fans got even louder.
“Even though it was quiet through the mic, the assistant’s voice is so soft!” “Oh my god, that soft, shy voice is too cute. Assistant lady, please consider debuting!” “Too cute! Ziyu, you big bully, don’t pick on our soft assistant!”
Amidst the chaos of the fans’ screams, Zhou Tiantian decisively marched off the stage. This time, she didn’t wait in the wings; she went straight back to the dressing room to make sure Li Ziyu couldn’t drag her out again.
