- Spilling the Tea on the Movie Star Who Won't Leave Me Alone
- Chapter 5 - Chi-brand Heart-warming Care
During the heaviest snowfall the film city had seen all year, Gu Jingxuan was scheduled to film a scene in the water.
The night before, ignoring Lin Tao’s attempts to stop him, Xu Chi bundled himself up tightly and drove out of the film city. He wanted to buy a few things for Gu Jingxuan, specifically: ginger and heat patches.
By the time Xu Chi returned to the hotel, it was already past 10:00 PM, and a light snow had begun to fall outside. Looking at the vast white landscape through the window, Xu Chi unwound the scarf from his neck with a face full of worry.
“It looks like the snow won’t stop tonight. Imagine how cold it will be when Brother Gu has to go into the water tomorrow.”
At that moment, Lin Tao was busy scouring various websites to see if there were any scandals or news regarding Xu Chi. Hearing this, he rolled his eyes without even looking up.
“You care about Movie Star Gu more than you care about yourself. Does he even know how much you’re fretting over him?”
As for Xu Chi’s feelings for Gu Jingxuan, Lin Tao had known about them since his very first day as Xu Chi’s assistant. That day, when Lin Tao went to Xu Chi’s home, he was greeted by a wall covered entirely in photos of Gu Jingxuan. Lin Tao almost thought he had walked into the wrong apartment; a room like that looked exactly like the bedroom of a standard fan girl.
Back then, Xu Chi had looked at him with stars in his eyes and said, “He’s my idol!”
Lin Tao turned off his phone, took the strawberries from the table to wash them, and set them back down. “You should get to sleep early too. You have one scene tomorrow, and then you can rest for a few days.”
Xu Chi was busy washing the ginger and nodded distractedly, though it was unclear if he had actually heard a word Lin Tao said.
“This kid!” Lin Tao shook his head with a smile, thinking to himself that if Xu Chi put this much effort into chasing girls, he would definitely succeed every single time.
After washing the ginger, Xu Chi packed it into a small plastic bag Lin Tao had brought him. Then, he opened a pack of heat patches and studied them for a moment.
“I wonder if these actually work. Whatever, I’ll test one first.” As he spoke, Xu Chi stuck a patch onto his own undershirt, deciding to verify the effectiveness of the heat patches personally.
The next day, as soon as Xu Chi finished his scene, it was time for Gu Jingxuan and the female lead’s water scene. Xu Chi changed his clothes and crept over to the edge of the small pond. He reached in to test the water and immediately recoiled from the cold.
“Sss, it’s freezing.”
Xu Chi turned to see Gu Jingxuan wearing only two thin, ordinary robes, and he couldn’t help but feel anxious.
“Brother Lin, do you think I’d get scolded to death if I went to tell Director Jiang the water is too cold?” Xu Chi was worried Gu Jingxuan would get sick, but he also feared his own opinion didn’t carry enough weight to change the Director’s mind.
Lin Tao glanced at Xu Chi, not even wanting to dignify that with a response. He let out a cold snort. “Don’t you know what kind of person Director Jiang is by now? He has never been the type to coddle actors.”
“Oh.” Xu Chi lowered his head in disappointment. It was the middle of winter and the water hadn’t been heated at all; he was truly worried Gu Jingxuan would get frostbite.
“Hey, Xu Chi, why don’t you show some concern for Lu Qing? She’s a delicate girl and she has to go in the water too, yet all you talk about is Gu Jingxuan.” Unable to stand Xu Chi’s fanboy act any longer, Lin Tao got up and walked away.
Xu Chi clutched the bag of ginger in his pocket and pouted slightly. “Fine, I’ll make a cup of ginger tea for her too then. But I prepared all of this specifically for Brother Gu.”
“What did you prepare for me?” While changing clothes, Gu Jingxuan had noticed Xu Chi sitting by the pond, lost in thought. He had walked over intending to startle him, but he hadn’t expected to overhear the kid saying he’d prepared something for him.
Xu Chi jumped at the sudden sound of Gu Jingxuan’s voice. His hand tightened around the bag of ginger in his pocket so hard his nails nearly dug into the roots.
“I saw you sitting by the pond and thought you were having a conversation with your brother.” Gu Jingxuan wanted to reach out and rub the tip of Xu Chi’s nose, which was red from the cold, but he was afraid his own hands were too icy.
Xu Chi didn’t immediately catch the joke. His eyes widened slightly. “What brother?”
Looking every bit like a good student humbly asking a teacher for clarification, he made Gu Jingxuan burst out laughing. “Hahaha! Isn’t your name Xu Chi? This is a pond—a chi-tang. Isn’t it your brother?”
Xu Chi was left speechless by Gu Jingxuan’s dry joke and could only manage a few hollow chuckles. Realizing his joke hadn’t quite landed, Gu Jingxuan cleared his throat to hide his slight embarrassment.
“You just said you prepared everything for me. What is it, little Pond-chi?”
Even with the heaters running in the film city, Gu Jingxuan still felt waves of cold hitting him. Xu Chi looked at Gu Jingxuan’s visibly shivering body and smiled, playing a bit mysterious.
“I prepared Chi-brand heart-warming care.”
