- Chapter 49 - I Like You the Most
“It has always been only you, from beginning to end.”
Gu Jingxuan took every word of that sentence and turned them over in his heart repeatedly, replaying them until the meaning finally sank in.
He pulled Xu Chi, who was still blushing from his confession, into a tight embrace, his face radiant with uncontrollable joy.
“Does that mean your meaning is that you are willing to be with me? Is that it?”
As if he would not let go until he heard Xu Chi say it for certain, Gu Jingxuan’s grip was a bit too forceful. Xu Chi winced slightly from the pain, but he did not ask to be released.
He could feel Gu Jingxuan’s emotions: the cautiousness mixed with boundless happiness.
Resting his chin on Gu Jingxuan’s shoulder, Xu Chi raised his hands and patted Gu Jingxuan’s back reassuringly.
“I like you the most, Brother Gu.”
The meaning behind those words could not be clearer. Gu Jingxuan tilted his head and lightly bit Xu Chi’s ear cartilage, his tongue grazing the curve of the auricle.
The sensation sent a shiver through Xu Chi, making him instinctively try to shrink away from the touch.
“I am really so happy.”
Before Xu Chi could break free from the embrace, he heard Gu Jingxuan murmur softly against his ear.
The faint breath fanned into his sensitive ear canal, and the unique timbre of Gu Jingxuan’s voice echoed in his mind, causing Xu Chi to freeze in his tracks.
Although Gu Jingxuan’s embrace still carried the chill from outside, it gave Xu Chi an inexplicable sense of warmth and peace.
The two held each other for an unknown amount of time before Gu Jingxuan finally brought himself to release the soft, fragrant body in his arms.
“You really agreed to be with me?”
Despite his handsome looks and his cheerful, somewhat flirtatious personality, Gu Jingxuan had never actually pursued anyone or been in a relationship before.
In his twenty-odd years, he had never met someone he liked; now that he had found that person, it turned out the feeling was mutual.
Xu Chi also loved the scent of the body wash on Gu Jingxuan and huddled in his arms, unwilling to move.
“Brother Gu, do you think our managers will try to force us apart once they find out?”
Xu Chi’s imagination was practically a black hole. Before they were together, he would occasionally look at Gu Jingxuan’s photos and fantasize. Now that they were officially a couple, he had not even been in the relationship for an hour before he started worrying about whether they, a pair of star-crossed lovers, would be torn asunder by their agencies.
Gu Jingxuan was highly amused by his thoughts and pulled him along as they tumbled onto the bed.
“What are you thinking? My company does not have a rule forbidding artists from dating. Besides, if I want to date, it is not like they can stop me. Worst case scenario, we will just have an underground romance; it will be thrilling.”
Xu Chi never knew Gu Jingxuan had this side to him, and the surprise on his face was hard to hide.
“I did not know you had such thoughts, Brother Gu. An underground romance, tsk tsk tsk.”
He shook his head as he spoke, acting like a wise old soul. This made the curve of Gu Jingxuan’s smile impossible to suppress.
Gu Jingxuan flipped over to pin Xu Chi down, leaning in to look at his face. At such a close distance, he could clearly see every single one of Xu Chi’s eyelashes.
The long, curled lashes fluttered over his eyelids, framing Xu Chi’s bright, watery eyes.
“What are you doing, Brother Gu?”
Gu Jingxuan’s sudden proximity made Xu Chi lose his composure. He blinked rapidly, unsure of how to react.
“Young Master Xu, why don’t you keep me?”
The words slipped out, causing Gu Jingxuan to startle himself for a moment, but he quickly followed the thread of his own joke.
“Xu Chi, keep me as your sugar baby. I will be your little lover.”
The more Gu Jingxuan spoke, the more energized he became. His eyebrows arched slightly, and his face lit up with excitement.
Xu Chi helplessly pushed against Gu Jingxuan’s chest, trying to move him a bit further from his face.
Internally, he processed what Gu Jingxuan had just said. He had only been in the industry for three or four years and had not even saved up enough for a “marriage fund.” Moreover, Gu Jingxuan was a nationally nominated Film King; his net worth was many times higher than his own.
Xu Chi did not know how to respond to such a statement. He wanted to play along, but he did not quite dare say words like “keeping Gu Jingxuan.”
Seeing no reaction, Gu Jingxuan assumed Xu Chi was worried he was a big spender who would drain his savings.
He continued to act spoiled, looming over Xu Chi and clinging to him persistently.
“Xu Chi, just support me. I will be responsible for making money to support the family, and you will be responsible for ‘supporting’ me in bed.”
Xu Chi’s face turned bright red at that single sentence. Even though he knew Gu Jingxuan was prone to talking nonsense, Xu Chi could not help but take it seriously.
Seeing that Xu Chi was only blushing and remained otherwise unmoved, Gu Jingxuan shook his hand again. “Seriously, there are so many benefits to keeping me.”
This piqued Xu Chi’s interest, and he followed the lead.
“What benefits? Tell me, let ‘Master’ hear them. If I am happy with what I hear, I will keep you.”
Seeing that Xu Chi was willing to play along, Gu Jingxuan stopped filtering his thoughts entirely.
“If you keep me, you won’t have to worry about food, clothes, or a place to live. You will also get to enjoy my services in bed. Plus, I can make money to support you, and I don’t eat much, so I am cost-effective.”
Hearing Gu Jingxuan describe himself in such a pathetic way, Xu Chi could not help but burst out laughing.
He reached out to wrap his arms around Gu Jingxuan’s back, patting it gently. He spoke softly, “Alright, I will keep you. From now on, you have to listen to me in everything. I will give you a monthly allowance of one hundred yuan; spend it however you like.”
He found his own words hilarious and could not help but turn his head away, pursing his lips to hide his smile.
Gu Jingxuan looked earnestly at Xu Chi’s profile and nodded. “Understood. Don’t worry, Sugar Daddy. I will be sure to serve you well.”
Xu Chi laughed and punched Gu Jingxuan’s chest lightly, telling him to stop messing around.
He then watched as Gu Jingxuan rolled over to lie beside him. Their shoulders overlapped, and the air around them was filled with the breath and presence of the person next to them.
“I can hardly believe you actually agreed to be with me,” Gu Jingxuan said. The trace of insecurity in his tone made Xu Chi’s heart ache. “I thought about it for a long time before confessing. I was wondering how I could keep you as a friend if you said no.”
Xu Chi smiled dismissively. How could he possibly say no to Gu Jingxuan? The man beside him was the person he had liked for years: someone he cherished in the deepest part of his heart but never dared to mention. He had been afraid that the moment he spoke, everything would vanish.
Gu Jingxuan might never know that he had once been the only light in Xu Chi’s darkened life, leading him step by step out of those unbearable shadows.
“Brother Gu, you are the person I like most in this world, second only to my parents.”
He paused for a moment, then added, “And there is no one else.”
