- Chapter 48 - It Has Always Been Only You
Xu Chi’s mind was filled with nothing but the sound of his own heartbeat. After Gu Jingxuan finished speaking, he didn’t say another word, simply looking at Xu Chi quietly, waiting for an answer.
However, Xu Chi stood frozen in place as if someone had struck his pressure points. If it weren’t for the slight twitching Gu Jingxuan could see on the sides of his nose, Gu Jingxuan would have truly believed Xu Chi was a wax statue.
The two of them stood under the eaves of the hotel entrance. Outside, the snow was falling more and more heavily; occasionally, a few flakes drifted in and landed on Gu Jingxuan’s shoulder.
The receptionist inside the hotel saw the two of them standing outside but, after a moment’s thought, decided not to come out and intervene.
Gu Jingxuan wasn’t in a hurry. He didn’t know what had come over him either. Looking at Xu Chi’s face under the lights, he had been struck by a sudden impulse to confess.
Regardless of the outcome, this was the person he liked. He wanted to voice this affection so that the person involved could understand it as well.
The confession had come too abruptly. One second they were discussing their childhoods, and the next, Gu Jingxuan was suddenly asking if he wanted to fall in love with him.
Xu Chi instinctively wanted to agree, but for a moment, he found himself unable to speak. He opened his mouth several times, yet no sound came out. During this interval, Xu Chi looked up and took a good look at Gu Jingxuan.
He was as handsome as ever. His dark eyes reflected the lights of the hotel lobby like fireworks blooming in the night sky.
Gu Jingxuan’s long, curled lashes cast a shadow over his lower eyelids, and his slightly deep-set sockets made his eyes look even more spirited in the night.
Xu Chi didn’t see a single trace of joking in Gu Jingxuan’s face or eyes. Gu Jingxuan was looking at him with a serious yet cautious expression—just as he did when they discussed scripts together—waiting for his answer.
There was no answer that truly required Xu Chi’s careful deliberation; the second Gu Jingxuan asked the question, Xu Chi wanted nothing more than to say yes immediately.
During Xu Chi’s hesitation, the light in Gu Jingxuan’s eyes dimmed bit by bit. Finally, he gave a self-deprecating smile and walked past Xu Chi toward the hotel.
Before he could take more than a few steps, Xu Chi grabbed his hand from behind. Before he could even turn around to react, Xu Chi’s enlarged face pressed against his.
The sensation on his lips was a slightly cool, soft touch, springy like jelly. It was a timid, fleeting kiss—a gentle brush against Gu Jingxuan’s lips before he immediately pulled away.
An expression of obvious surprise crossed Gu Jingxuan’s face. Before the disappointment could even fade, a flicker of pleasant surprise and shock replaced it.
In short, the Gu Jingxuan that Xu Chi saw now looked exactly like a flustered adolescent boy.
Without waiting for Gu Jingxuan’s reaction, Xu Chi’s face flushed red as he bypassed him and hurried into the hotel first.
A second later, seeing that the person behind him hadn’t followed, he couldn’t help but wonder: was my hint not obvious enough?
Logically, Xu Chi’s first kiss had already been given to Gu Jingxuan. But that kiss just now was completely different from the kisses they had shared on set for the sake of the plot.
He could feel Xu Chi’s noticeably unsteady breath as he approached, as well as the imperceptible tremble when those lips pressed against his.
Gu Jingxuan raised a hand to touch his mouth, seemingly savoring the texture of Xu Chi’s lips from moments ago.
Snapping back to his senses, he realized Xu Chi had already walked quite a distance. He immediately bolted after him, squeezing into the elevator just as the doors were about to close.
Inside the elevator, the sound of their overlapping, ragged breathing filled the space. Neither of them took the initiative to break the awkwardness, and they remained in silence until they reached their floor.
Once the elevator opened, Gu Jingxuan deliberately stepped aside to let Xu Chi out first. He then followed closely behind Xu Chi, his gaze burning with intensity as he watched Xu Chi’s back, looking for all the world like some obsessed stalker.
Even without looking back, Xu Chi could feel that Gu Jingxuan’s gaze must be scorching. The tips of his ears turned red, and gradually, the color spread until his entire ears were crimson. Watching from behind, Gu Jingxuan found him incredibly adorable.
Upon entering the room, before Xu Chi could catch his breath, Gu Jingxuan grabbed him and pinned him against the back of the door.
When Gu Jingxuan’s frantic breath fanned across his face, Xu Chi’s entire brain ceased to function. His teeth, which had been tightly clenched at first, opened before long under Gu Jingxuan’s persistent assault, allowing Gu Jingxuan’s tongue to slip into his mouth and stir everything up.
Having never experienced anything like this, Xu Chi had no reaction for a moment; because the person holding him was Gu Jingxuan, he didn’t even put up a struggle.
As they kissed, Xu Chi’s temperature gradually rose. Gu Jingxuan’s tongue invaded every inch of his mouth. After a brief pause, Xu Chi also stuck out his tongue, attempting to respond to Gu Jingxuan. Before he could do much, his tongue was swept up by Gu Jingxuan’s, and they became tightly entangled.
At some point, Xu Chi’s hands had hooked around Gu Jingxuan’s neck, and his entire weight was hanging off Gu Jingxuan.
It wasn’t until he was about to run out of breath that Xu Chi reached out and pushed against Gu Jingxuan’s chest, his brow slightly furrowed.
Gu Jingxuan lingered a moment longer to suck on Xu Chi’s lips before finally letting him go. Xu Chi, who was experiencing a French kiss for the first time, felt as though he were about to suffocate.
Seeing the person in his arms slumped weakly against him, face flushed and lips slightly swollen and parted, Gu Jingxuan suddenly felt like he could run twenty laps around the hotel. A wave of heat surged through his body.
It took Xu Chi a long time to breathe normally again. After taking a few deep breaths, he realized he was being held entirely in Gu Jingxuan’s embrace, surrounded by the pleasant scent of Gu Jingxuan’s body wash.
His mind was still somewhat stalled, and he pushed Gu Jingxuan away with stiff movements. He lowered his head, his entire neck turning red.
Knowing that Xu Chi was shy, Gu Jingxuan shamelessly walked over and pulled Xu Chi back into his arms.
“You haven’t answered my question yet, little one.”
Gu Jingxuan’s words plunged Xu Chi back into silence, and the lingering ambiguity in the room suddenly dissipated quite a bit.
Thinking that all of this might have been his own wishful thinking, Gu Jingxuan’s grip on Xu Chi loosened slightly, as if he would let go the moment Xu Chi said no.
Gu Jingxuan had never known that waiting could be so agonizing; every minute felt like it could kill him.
After a long time, Xu Chi finally looked up at him.
“From beginning to end, it has only ever been you, Brother Gu.”
