- Chapter 47 - Do You Want to Fall in Love with Me?
When a handful of snow suddenly dropped down Xu Chi’s collar, he didn’t react immediately.
He shuddered several times from the icy chill of the snow before he managed to clear it all out from his neck. It was only then that his senses gradually returned to him. Looking at Gu Jingxuan, who was laughing happily in front of him, Xu Chi realized that the handful of snow had been thrown down his neck by him.
Xu Chi had been so preoccupied with walking exactly in Gu Jingxuan’s footprints that he hadn’t even noticed the person in front of him secretly bending down to scoop up a handful of snow from the ground.
Xu Chi was still essentially a big kid at heart, and with Gu Jingxuan teasing him like this, his playful side was instantly piqued. Ignoring the fact that he was ruining the footprints beneath his feet, he scooped up a heavy handful of snow and chased after Gu Jingxuan.
“Little Jingxuan, aren’t you being childish? How old are you, still playing pranks?”
While Xu Chi called Gu Jingxuan childish, his hands didn’t stop moving. He quickly rubbed the snow into a snowball and threw it at Gu Jingxuan’s back.
It just so happened that Gu Jingxuan, seeing that there had been no movement from Xu Chi for a while, turned around just as the snowball flew straight toward his face.
Gu Jingxuan actually heard the “splat” as the snowball hit his face. Seeing this, Xu Chi couldn’t stop laughing; he bent over, clutching his stomach as he stood there laughing.
A light snow was still falling by the riverside, and many tiny flakes had settled on Xu Chi’s black plush hat. A thick layer of ice had formed on the river’s surface, covered by a thin layer of snow that made a squeaking sound whenever one stepped on it.
The branches and leaves were draped with unthawed snow. When they could no longer bear the weight, large clumps of snow would slide off the branches—a scene dozens of times more beautiful than any intentionally created for a movie.
Xu Chi stood in the snow not far from him, wearing a white down jacket, a radiantly happy smile on his face due to his successful sneak attack. His skin was a bit pale because of the weather, but the tip of his nose was a faint red, making him look as if he were almost merging into the snowy background.
There wasn’t even the sound of a bird nearby. Gu Jingxuan could hear his own breathing and the sound of Xu Chi’s hearty laughter coming from over there.
It felt as if all the fatigue and exhaustion of the past many days had vanished. At this moment, he didn’t have a single worry in his heart or on his mind; his eyes were filled entirely with the person before him who was laughing like a child.
Knowing that Xu Chi was in a playful mood, Gu Jingxuan indulged him, cooperating as they rolled up one snowball after another from the ground. The two of them ran along the vast riverside without tire, their necks, backs, and pant legs covered in bits of snow. Once one was hit by the other, they were determined to roll an even bigger snowball to throw back.
Gu Jingxuan would play tricks from time to time, holding a snowball in each hand. While Xu Chi was bent over picking up snow, Gu Jingxuan would accurately stuff the ball from his other hand down the back of Xu Chi’s collar and then bolt far away in a flash.
Just hearing Xu Chi’s unabashed screams and laughing warnings made Gu Jingxuan feel incredibly happy.
When the two of them grew tired of playing, they sat in the snow side-by-side, not caring at all about the dirt.
Even without saying a word, it didn’t feel awkward.
While Xu Chi was still letting his mind go blank, Gu Jingxuan suddenly pulled him up and led him under a tree.
Without any mental preparation, Xu Chi wore a somewhat startled expression, completely confused as to why Gu Jingxuan had brought him here.
“We used to play like this often when we were kids. The adults wouldn’t let us keep our hands in the snow. If they felt our hands were ice-cold when we got home, we couldn’t avoid a beating. Later, we stopped touching the snow with our hands and instead stood under the trees to shake them.”
As Gu Jingxuan spoke, he walked over to Xu Chi’s side and braced himself against the tree trunk.
Before Xu Chi could prepare himself, Gu Jingxuan began to shake the trunk frantically.
The snow that had been accumulating on the branches and leaves for a long time slid down following Gu Jingxuan’s shaking.
It fluttered down as if a heavy snowstorm were falling. Xu Chi and Gu Jingxuan stood under the tree, surrounded by falling clumps of snow.
Everything experienced today was a life Xu Chi had never tasted before.
He had started learning the piano from a young age, so his hands were incredibly precious, and he himself couldn’t bear to let them get frostbitten.
Every winter, he would tend to his hands with hand warmers every day to prevent them from becoming too stiff to move when he placed them on the piano keys.
Up until he was forced to leave the music world, Xu Chi had never touched alcohol or gotten into a fight with anyone. This was because alcohol would cause his fingers to tremble, and fighting would result in hand injuries.
As for snowball fights, building snowmen, and standing under a tree watching large patches of snow slide down around him—these were things Xu Chi hadn’t even dared to imagine.
He had entered a specialized music training school at the age of twelve. The school’s management was quite strict, and Xu Chi simply couldn’t find the time to do anything else.
Fortunately, he had enough passion and love for music to support him in adhering to his convictions for ten years as if they were a single day.
It wasn’t until he entered the entertainment industry that Xu Chi gradually came into contact with alcohol due to the requirements of certain occasions. However, because he had never drunk since childhood, his tolerance was so poor that he would get drunk off half a glass.
Watching Gu Jingxuan stand beside him today, talking about things from his childhood with his friends, Xu Chi couldn’t help but show a look of envy and longing.
The snowman had been built, the snowball fight had been enjoyed to their hearts’ content, and the trees nearby had all been shaken by the two of them. After brushing the snow off a long bench with their hands, the two sat down and began to chat idly.
“The things we did today are things I never dared to do before.” Xu Chi’s face carried a flushed glow from the exertion of their play.
His eyes, looking toward the riverside, seemed to be shining, and his tone carried an excitement that was easily detectable.
Gu Jingxuan already understood enough about Xu Chi’s childhood, so hearing Xu Chi’s words, he didn’t say much and just waited quietly for him to continue.
“When I was little, because I had to practice the piano and violin, I had to protect my fingers especially well. As soon as winter came, my parents would prepare several hand warmers for me. Because if my fingers stiffened up, I wouldn’t be able to move them flexibly on the keys, I never went out in the winter. I never had the chance to play in the snow with others; my memories of playing in the snow before the age of six are so blurry I can hardly remember them.”
Xu Chi glossed over his past, sounding somewhat complainingly about how he hadn’t played in the snow as a child, yet his expression was clearly one of enjoyment. Being able to play the piano and violin had always been something that made Xu Chi very happy.
“The things I did today are definitely the most earth-shaking things I’ve done in my entire life.”
As the sky gradually darkened, the two walked back toward the hotel along the path they had taken earlier.
Just as they were about to step onto the main road, Gu Jingxuan suddenly stopped. He grabbed Xu Chi’s hand, causing Xu Chi to stop and turn back toward him, his body angled.
“Then, do you want to have an earth-shaking romance with me?”
