Two pairs of pale lips slowly drew closer.
“Dad Nan! What’s wrong with you?!” Chen Bin, realizing a beat too late that the figure in front of him had vanished, let out a loud howl. The two people sitting on the floor were so startled they snapped their heads away from each other instantly.
Pei Nan’s face flushed an explosive red. The strength in his body returned in a flash, and he stood up, ready to start a fight with Chen Bin.
Touching his own burning ears, Xue Xingqi gave an instruction from behind Pei Nan. “I’ll go downstairs to see how the others are doing.”
Only after stepping out of the door did Xue Xingqi feel a sense of regret; they had been just a hair’s breadth away from kissing.
Perhaps, Pei Nan wasn’t that resistant to it after all.
“Chen Bin, stop putting on an act with me. Get up!” Pei Nan stared with a murderous glint at the person acting drunk on the bed. “Don’t think I don’t know you did that on purpose. What exactly are you trying to do!”
Chen Bin waved his hands about with a series of groans, as if he were catching tiny bugs.
“Can you stop acting like an idiot? I know you’re not that drunk anymore. Tell me clearly right now what is your deal!”
Chen Bin was shaken back and forth by him until he couldn’t take it anymore. “My ancestor, Dad Nan, please stop shaking me. If you keep shaking, I’m really going to throw up.”
Seeing that he was no longer faking his intoxication, Pei Nan shoved him back onto the bed. “Speak.”
“I… I was just afraid you’d regret it.” Chen Bin wore a face full of misery. “Are you really going to be with Xue Xingqi?”
“Oh, so you aren’t calling him ‘God Xue’ now?” Pei Nan gave a mocking smile.
“He’s too calculating! I’m not saying he’s a bad guy, I just…”
Pei Nan finished the sentence for him. “You’re just his little lapdog.”
“You knew? If you knew, then I’ll just be direct.”
After a period of internal struggle, Chen Bin felt he had to make things clear to Pei Nan. “I didn’t know he had those feelings for you before. He asked for news about you, so I told him. Later, he even asked me to keep an eye on you of course, he didn’t say it explicitly. He just said you needed to focus on personal safety during the competition period and that I could tell him if anything happened, just in case.”
“I thought it made sense, so I… told him.” Under Pei Nan’s gaze, which was as cold as still water, Chen Bin silently shut his mouth.
“Under the banner of doing it for my own good, just how much has he done? Give me a full account, one by one!”
Chen Bin quickly held up his phone. “I’ll show you the chat logs.”
Pei Nan sat beside him, enduring the foul stench of alcohol on Chen Bin as he flipped through the messages. As he scrolled, he discovered that the two of them had brief exchanges almost every day. The matters were mundane: making sure he ate, where he went, his state during class, and after arriving at the stadium, it shifted to work-related communications.
“Fine then. I see you’re still helping him now. If anyone else saw these chat logs, wouldn’t they call him ‘attentive’? Have you defected to the enemy?”
“I’ve been framed!” Chen Bin was truly aggrieved this time. “Don’t you like him a little bit yourself? Otherwise, why would you see these actions as ‘attentive’? You should find them terrifying.”
“Binzi, you’re drunk. Stop talking nonsense.” Pei Nan knocked him down with one arm, locked the phone, and tossed it beside him. “Now, the organization is giving you a new mission: report everything to me first. Got it?”
Chen Bin nodded repeatedly like a chicken pecking at grain. Once he finished nodding, his head spun and his eyes grew dazed. “I’m going to sleep first.”
“Why do you look so possessed?” Pei Nan frowned and reluctantly pulled the quilt over him.
Relieved of his burden, Chen Bin fell asleep quickly. The suite gradually grew quiet. After pacing around the room a few times, Pei Nan chose to take a shower. This way, he could save himself from facing Xue Xingqi later and avoid too much awkwardness.
To his surprise, even after he finished his shower, Xue Xingqi hadn’t come back up.
“It’s his own hotel; nothing should go wrong,” Pei Nan muttered to himself.
419 popped out at the right moment. “Host, don’t you feel like you’ve forgotten something?”
“What?”
“The mission!”
Before Pei Nan could respond, the familiar electric current surged wildly through his body. Pei Nan couldn’t help but hug himself tightly, yet every inch of skin-to-skin contact only brought a more distinct, stinging pain.
Mission: Please kiss the campus hunk next door. Countdown: 7 days. Progress: 0%. Punishment: Electric shock (Weak version, possessing the effects of strengthening the body, relaxing muscles, and eliminating fatigue).
Looking at the supplementary note in the parentheses, Pei Nan was almost driven to laughter by anger. “So I’m supposed to thank you, the Yang Yongxin of the romance world?”
“That’s not necessary, Host! Just hurry up and do the mission. Getting hit with this every day really doesn’t feel good.” 419 bounced around, extremely anxious.
Irritated, Pei Nan grabbed his phone. Seeing it was only three minutes past midnight, he grumbled about the timing being too precise. He then found Xue Xingqi’s number and dialed it, asking bluntly, “When are you coming back?”
Xue Xingqi hadn’t expected Pei Nan to call him. He was afraid Pei Nan would feel uncomfortable sharing a room with him. Plus, the room he had reserved only had two beds; Chen Bin occupied one, and the other was for Pei Nan. He had planned to open another room next to Pei Nan’s. Now that the call had come through, he stopped immediately and stuffed the room card into his pocket. “I’ll be there right away.”
“Good.” Pei Nan hung up the phone and lay flat on the bed, limbs spread out.
Xue Xingqi didn’t know what that “good” meant, but he could only follow his heart and think in a positive direction. Otherwise, why would Pei Nan call him?
He stood at the door for a good while to compose himself before using his authority to swipe open the door.
The room was filled with the scent of the toiletries he usually used. Xue Xingqi took a quiet, deep breath and then walked toward the bed. Pei Nan heard his footsteps but remained motionless, only his bright eyes moving nimbly to look at him.
“You’re finished washing up, why aren’t you asleep?” Xue Xingqi initiated the conversation to keep the atmosphere from becoming too tense or ambiguous. “The students are all settled, though I don’t know if they’ll make it to breakfast tomorrow.”
“Waiting for you, obviously. Hurry up and go wash up.” Pei Nan knew Xue Xingqi was a bit of a germaphobe; he usually wouldn’t get into bed wearing outdoor clothes. Last time when his foot was injured, he still had to shower and would only sleep after changing into his own bedsheets. This time was no exception, as he was covered in the smell of food and alcohol.
He spoke candidly, his gaze clear and upright.
Xue Xingqi felt a pang of disappointment. It seemed Pei Nan had already adjusted his mindset and was drawing a line between them again. A forced smile touched the corners of his lips. “You go to sleep first. The soundproofing here is quite good; I won’t disturb you when I wash up in a moment.”
“The soundproofing is quite good…”
Pei Nan repeated it silently. His voice was too low, and Xue Xingqi didn’t hear clearly. “What did you say?”
“Nothing. Just go. How can a grown man be so dawdling?”
Xue Xingqi had no choice but to turn and enter the bathroom.
He didn’t pull any cheap tricks like “accidentally” leaving his bathrobe or underwear outside. He quickly cleaned himself up. When he walked out wearing his bathrobe, Pei Nan was sitting at the head of the bed playing with his phone.
Most of the lights in the room were off, leaving only two bedside lamps emitting a soft, warm glow. Pei Nan’s beautiful, sharp face actually looked a bit tender and affectionate in the light. Xue Xingqi watched from a distance, his heart softening for this side of Pei Nan that was rarely shown to others.
“What are you standing there for? Aren’t you going to sleep?”
Pei Nan heard the door but didn’t hear footsteps. Looking up, he realized Xue Xingqi was staring at him. He narrowed his eyes, immediately shattering the illusion of a gentle beauty.
Xue Xingqi’s heart fluttered even more.
Pei Nan tossed his phone aside and patted the spot next to him. “Do you usually sleep on the left or the right?”
“Either is fine.”
“Then you lie over there. I don’t want to move anymore.” Pei Nan spoke with total entitlement. The way he leaned comfortably against the pillow made it glaringly obvious to Xue Xingqi that he was just going through the motions and had no intention of moving.
He was quite overbearing.
Xue Xingqi didn’t quite understand Pei Nan’s current logic. He had a faint suspicion in his heart, but he didn’t dare to be certain.
He stepped onto the bed, lifted the quilt, and moved inside. “Should I turn off the light?”
“Don’t turn it off. I won’t be able to aim right in a bit.”
“Aim what right?”
“This.” Before Pei Nan’s voice even faded, he had already flipped over and straddled Xue Xingqi’s waist.
The snowy-white down quilt was sandwiched between them. Pei Nan felt as if he were floating on a cloud.
It wasn’t just his body that felt light; his spirit was also soaring in the atmosphere. He lowered his body, his hands proactively touching Xue Xingqi’s face. The skin, still lingering with moist vapor, was delicate; even up close, no pores could be found. As Pei Nan touched him, his mind began to wander.
The texture felt so good. It turned out that touching a guy felt different from touching himself.
Like a small animal, he leaned close to Xue Xingqi’s nose, and his lips unexpectedly pressed down.
There was no warning, no inquiry just a simple, gentle touch.
The sensation and temperature of those lips were exactly the same as in his dreams, far more vivid than the online descriptions he had researched.
So, Pei Nan kissed him again.
Xue Xingqi seemed to have been hit by a freezing spell. He allowed Pei Nan to kiss him twice without daring to move, for fear of waking from this brief, beautiful dream.
“Why are you such a blockhead?” This time, Pei Nan stuck out the tip of his tongue, boldly prying open the space between Xue Xingqi’s teeth. He warned him with muffled words, “You aren’t allowed to bite my tongue, okay?”
Pei Nan kissed earnestly, strictly following every step of the online tutorials. Starting from the tip of Xue Xingqi’s tongue, he began to explore it was actually a sweet, minty breath.
Unconsciously, he closed his eyes. Only then did Xue Xingqi seem to regain his senses, reaching out his hands to wrap around Pei Nan’s body. The warm back beneath his palms was full of elasticity. While he tilted his head back to facilitate Pei Nan’s kiss, he also used force to press Pei Nan’s head toward himself.
Pei Nan not only didn’t resist but even sucked on his tongue as a reward. Xue Xingqi’s scalp tingled with pleasure as he hooked Pei Nan’s tongue, swirling it within his mouth.
They desperately plundered each other’s air. Their freshly washed bodies continuously broke into a sweat. Pei Nan’s head throbbed with the heat. Only when a thin layer of sweat appeared on his flushed face did he seem unable to bear it anymore, lifting his head and trying his best to avoid the kiss Xue Xingqi chased after. He opened his eyes and found himself completely sprawled over Xue Xingqi.
The second he couldn’t reach Pei Nan’s lips, Xue Xingqi flipped over and pinned Pei Nan directly beneath him.
