She’s Fiercer Than Zombies - Chapter 31
Qiao Gaogao let out a long sigh. Given the current state of Tai’an Biotech, she couldn’t help but wonder was the zombie virus really unrelated to Tai’an? But then, what about the information released by the government?
“Senior, considering the situation, I don’t think your parents are in any danger.” If zombies were stationed guarding the company building, it seemed unlikely they would harm them, right?
At least for now, Qiao Gaogao couldn’t enter Tai’an Biotech. Forgive her abilities weren’t that strong yet.
Qiao Gaogao: T_T
“Roar!”
Yinxi also understood that the zombies in the city center were beyond their current capabilities to confront. Yet, at the same time, her curiosity about the secrets inside grew even stronger.
If there truly was something within that could trigger the zombie virus outbreak, was there also some kind of serum inside that could end this catastrophe?
No matter what, though, the prerequisite for entering now was to enhance their own strength.
Qiao Gaogao wiped the nonexistent cold sweat from her forehead and rallied her spirits. “Senior! Let’s head to the blood bank now!”
She absolutely had to make sure her senior was well-fed! Then she would kill more zombies and absorb more crystal cores! She refused to believe she couldn’t get into that Tai’an building!
“Roar!” Yinxi immediately responded, her own urgency to grow stronger evident. At least then she wouldn’t have to keep running from other zombies!
They didn’t go to the hospital but instead headed to S City’s largest blood bank. This facility supplied dozens of hospitals across the city, so the blood supply was surely abundant!
Fortunately, this time they proceeded relatively smoothly, without encountering any particularly powerful zombies.
After clearing out the zombies at the blood bank, the two entered. Although some of the equipment had stopped working, the overall situation was still manageable. The liquid nitrogen cooling system was still operational, and most of the blood stores remained intact.
Qiao Gaogao took out a bag of blood and handed it to Yinxi. “Try it and see if it works?”
Yinxi took the cold blood bag, her expression a mix of conflict and heaviness. If she had a choice, she would undoubtedly toss the blood bag aside without hesitation!
Taking a deep breath, Yinxi looked as though she were heading into battle, a tragic determination in her demeanor.
Closing her eyes, she opened the blood bag and began to drink.
A metallic taste flooded her mouth, and the unappealing scent of blood filled her nostrils. Forcing herself to finish the entire bag, she began dry heaving the moment she swallowed the last mouthful, tears welling in her eyes as she felt utterly miserable.
How could blood taste so awful? It was enough to kill a zombie!
Seeing her like this, Qiao Gaogao quickly handed her a bottle of water to rinse her mouth. “Forget it, forget it. Let’s not drink this blood anymore!”
The difference in her reaction to drinking this blood compared to Qiao Gaogao’s was just too stark. It was obvious how terrible it tasted!
From now on, she’d better focus on eating more blood-nourishing foods and just drink her own blood instead.
After rinsing her mouth, Yinxi finally felt a bit better. Shaking her head, she stored all the blood bank’s inventory in her space. Even though the blood tasted awful and its effects weren’t significant, it still had some benefit. If she didn’t drink this, she’d have to rely on Gaogao’s blood wouldn’t that just be robbing Peter to pay Paul?
Watching her actions, Qiao Gaogao hesitated, wanting to say something but holding back. “Senior, if it doesn’t taste good, then don’t drink it.”
After all, her constitution allowed for quick recovery, so keeping one zombie senior around should be manageable, right?
Yinxi shook her head, “Grr grr!”
Qiao Gaogao’s expression immediately turned complicated. Was this really about being picky with food? Wasn’t the real issue that drinking it made her want to vomit?
Yinxi didn’t give her much time to overthink it, pulling her along as they headed outside.
Seeing her determined expression, Qiao Gaogao had no choice but to follow along helplessly.
Although their mission hadn’t been accomplished, the two of them weren’t planning to leave S City just yet. They still hoped to find some useful clues here.
Moreover, the zombies in this area were generally stronger than those in other places. If they wanted to improve their strength, staying here wasn’t a bad choice.
As the two of them stepped out of the blood bank, they encountered something utterly absurd…
“What are you doing?”
Qiao Gaogao stared at the man trying to break into her car and spoke with exasperation.
The man was covered in wounds, his clothes torn to shreds by zombies, barely recognizable as human.
He turned to look at Qiao Gaogao and her companion, his eyes widening instantly. Gnashing his teeth, he said, “It’s you!”
Qiao Gaogao was baffled. “Do I know you?”
Seeing her reaction, the man grew even more furious, his blood boiling with rage. “We just met, and you’ve already forgotten?”
Qiao Gaogao fell silent, while Yinxi let out a low growl.
She remembered now, he was one of the three men surrounded by the zombie horde. He had actually managed to survive and escape?
“You’re something else! Just you wait!” The man gave up on breaking into her car, his gaze fixed venomously on Qiao Gaogao. Then he glanced at the zombie beside her, a greedy glint flashing in his eyes.
“That zombie next to you looks high-level. Her crystal core must be incredibly valuable, right? Once I recover, not only will I skin you alive and break your bones, but I’ll also personally dig out the crystal core from her head right in front of you!”
Spouting threats, the man turned to leave and search for another vehicle.
A gust of wind blew, carrying not the usual stench of decay but a faint, pleasant fragrance. The man’s eyes widened in shock.
Qiao Gaogao’s hands clamped around his head and twisted sharply! A chilling, bone-cracking sound echoed clearly in the ears of everyone present. Qiao Gaogao let out a soft, mocking laugh.
“Since you’ve said all that, do you really think I’d let you leave?”
If you’re going to talk big, you should at least pick the right target. How dare he spout such nonsense to her? Insulting her was one thing, but even thinking about her senior’s crystal core? Well, he could go to the underworld and regret his thoughtless words.
The man’s face still wore a look of disbelief, but the light in his eyes gradually faded, leaving no trace of life.
Qiao Gaogao released her grip as if discarding something filthy, and the man’s body crumpled to the ground.
Staring at his corpse, Qiao Gaogao thought for a moment, then turned and went back into the blood bank to retrieve several blood bags. She began collecting blood from the man’s body before it had a chance to coagulate.
Yinxi watched her fluid, practiced movements in slight disbelief. How could she do all this without so much as a change in expression?
She stepped forward and crouched beside Qiao Gaogao, eyeing the man with clear distaste.
“Grr grr!”
“Grr grr grr!”
“Be good, senior. He was an ability user after all, so his blood must be better than the other blood in the blood bank. Didn’t you just say we shouldn’t be picky?” Qiao Gaogao coaxed while collecting blood.
Yinxi: “…”
“Grr…”
“Because he was a bad person, he deserved to die. Since he’s already dead, we shouldn’t waste his blood. If he were a good person, I wouldn’t have been able to do it!”
Yinxi fell silent, squatting nearby with her arms wrapped around her knees, resting her chin on them as she glared resentfully at the man.
In the end, Qiao Gaogao filled over twenty 400-milliliter blood bags, collecting most of the man’s blood. Then, staring at the corpse, she mused, “Senior, do you want to try eating meat? Maybe it’ll be even more effective?”
After all, other zombies didn’t just drink blood they devoured flesh and blood alike.
“Grr!”
Yinxi stood up angrily and moved farther away from her. She absolutely refused to eat meat! That was a matter of principle!
Hearing Yinxi’s response, Qiao Gaogao gave the man’s corpse a regretful look. Oh well, since she wouldn’t eat it, she had no choice but to dispose of it.
She poured some gasoline over the corpse and set it on fire.
If her senior wouldn’t eat it, she certainly wasn’t going to leave an ability user’s body for other zombies to benefit from.
However, the earlier incident had sparked an idea. She took Yinxi back to the blood bank and had her store all the unused blood bags in her spatial storage. They might come in handy someday.
After storing most of the man’s blood bags, Yinxi held the one Qiao Gaogao had deliberately set aside, hesitating over whether to drink it.
“Go on, drink it! See if it’s much better than the others!” Qiao Gaogao urged, her eyes sparkling.
Yinxi: “…”
Her expression made it seem as though she wasn’t holding human blood but something as ordinary as beef blood.
In the end, Yinxi drank it. The blood of an ability user not only smelled more fragrant than that of ordinary people but also lacked the metallic taste. At the very least, it was far more palatable, and her frown wasn’t as pronounced.
Seeing her reaction, Qiao Gaogao knew the taste must be much better. With over twenty bags of blood, it should serve as a decent food supply for quite some time.
Once in the car, Qiao Gaogao sighed deeply as she looked at the cracked windshield and the dented roof. Even in this condition, someone had still tried to break into the car, proof of just how well her senior brother had modified it.
Compared to other ordinary private cars, this one’s performance was miles ahead!
The two got in the car, planning to head home first to discuss their next steps. How to quickly improve their strength and how to obtain information on Tai’an Biotech were both pressing matters that needed discussion.
On the way home, the unease Qiao Gaogao had felt when leaving that morning resurfaced. The closer they got to Yinxi’s home, the stronger the feeling became, accompanied by a faint sense of palpitations.
Frowning, Qiao Gaogao pulled the car over to the side of the road. Just as she turned to say something to Yinxi, the roar of engines suddenly erupted. Several well-equipped off-road vehicles surged out from hidden corners, swiftly surrounding them!
Qiao Gaogao’s heart skipped a beat. With this development, the lingering sense of unease finally settled into grim certainty.
