She’s Fiercer Than Zombies - Chapter 32
The desolate and chilly street was permeated with a murderous atmosphere. After several off-road vehicles surrounded them, their sunroofs opened, and from each vehicle emerged a man from the waist up, aiming guns at them.
Qiao Gaogao and Yinxi were both bewildered by the situation before them. Judging by the looks of it, these people had come specifically to deal with them. But who had they offended? Even the man from earlier had been taken care of by them, hadn’t he?
A man in a tailored suit stepped out of the lead vehicle. Even in this apocalyptic era, his suit remained crisp and spotless, his hair slicked back with gel into a neat pompadour. He smiled warmly as he looked at them.
The moment Yinxi got a clear view of the man, her expression immediately changed, and her grip on Qiao Gaogao’s hand tightened.
“Senior?” Qiao Gaogao stopped paying attention to the man and turned to Yinxi with concern.
“Xiao Yin, long time no see. Do you still remember me?” the man spoke at just the right moment. Though his voice wasn’t particularly loud, it carried clearly to their ears.
Yinxi’s face grew even paler.
Qiao Gaogao furrowed her brows, cautiously refraining from getting out of the car. Even if this man knew Yinxi, their hostile demeanor made it clear that nothing good was afoot.
When they didn’t respond, the man chuckled as if suddenly realizing something. “Ah, that’s right. Uncle’s memory isn’t so good. Our Xiao Yin is a zombie now and can’t speak.”
Hearing his words, Qiao Gaogao was absolutely furious. Just as she was about to step out of the car, Yinxi grabbed her, shook her head, and let out a soft growl.
She had seen this man before, he was her parents’ colleague and had visited their home several times in the past.
Her parents’ colleague? That meant he was from Taian Biotech, didn’t it?
They had just experienced that incident at Taian Biotech, and now these people were chasing after them. What were they planning?
“Xiao Yin, your parents are waiting for you. Come back with us, and you can see them again,” the man said, his hands clasped behind his back, exuding an air of confidence.
Qiao Gaogao rolled down the car window, leaned out, and glared at the man. Frowning, she said, “If that’s the case, why aren’t her parents here instead of you?”
Qiao Gaogao didn’t trust the man’s words.
The man looked at Qiao Gaogao, narrowing his eyes with a smile. “That’s because they’re busy with experiments and don’t have time to come out. They only asked me to bring Xiao Yin back. The world outside is unsafe now, it’s better for her to return.”
Qiao Gaogao sneered, pointing at the circle of vehicles. “I don’t see how this looks like a welcoming party.” It seemed more like they were here to capture them!
“You misunderstand, miss. We initially thought Xiao Yin had lost her rationality, so we came prepared. Now that we know she’s still conscious, we haven’t taken any action, have we?” The man waved his hand, and the men who had been aiming their guns at them promptly holstered their weapons.
Yinxi’s expression was grim. This man’s presence here and his words meant they had already confirmed she was a zombie. How could they be so certain?
“She’s safe with me, so there’s no need for her to go back with you,” Qiao Gaogao said, her face tense. Given Yinxi’s current condition, returning with them would only lead to who knows what most likely, she’d be used as a test subject!
“Miss Qiao, sometimes people shouldn’t be too arrogant.” The man’s voice was noticeably cold as he looked at Yinxi through the cracked windshield. “Don’t you want to see your parents?”
Yinxi’s mind was in turmoil. Not only had this man managed to find her, but he even knew Gaogao’s surname. It was clear he had already figured them out, and that wasn’t a good sign.
“Senior, don’t agree,” Qiao Gaogao said anxiously. If they went back with these people, they would be like fish on a chopping board.
Yinxi soothingly stroked the back of her hand. Even if she was a bit slow, she wasn’t foolish. These people were clearly up to no good, and she was now seriously starting to suspect that Taian Biotech was behind this catastrophe!
As for what role her parents played in all this, she had no idea.
What worried her now was how she and Gaogao could escape if she refused to go back with them.
Qiao Gaogao seemed to guess her thoughts and tightened her grip on Yinxi’s hand, her doll-like face filled with determination.
“It’s fine, Senior. Let’s give it our all!”
Not all the people the man brought were ability users. Most still relied on firearms to enhance their lethality. This suggested that even if Taian Biotech was likely behind the zombie virus, ability users remained a scarce resource for them.
Before going all out, Qiao Gaogao asked, “I want to know, why are you so insistent on taking her back?”
The man looked at Gaogao with a pitying expression. “With the zombie virus outbreak, companies like ours naturally bear the responsibility of researching the virus. Since Little Yin retained her consciousness after turning into a zombie, wouldn’t our research success mean saving the world?”
“Saving or controlling?” Gaogao sneered.
The man’s expression darkened, but he quickly resumed his kindly smile as if nothing had happened. “If you’re worried about Little Yin going back alone, you can come too. Our company is currently in need of talents like you.”
Gaogao curled her lips. How generous of him trying to recruit her to work for them?
After signaling Yinxi to get ready, Gaogao slammed on the accelerator and drove straight toward the man!
At the same moment, Yinxi let out a piercing scream, summoning other zombies to clash with Taian’s people.
Though it was unclear why they couldn’t control the zombies, at least this worked in Yinxi’s favor.
As Gaogao sped forward, the man’s face changed abruptly. He raised his hand toward their direction and pressed down hard, palm facing downward!
The car suddenly sank!
Gaogao’s face tightened as if a thousand-pound weight were pressing on her shoulders, forcing her to bend forward!
The man’s ability was gravity manipulation!
Gritting her teeth, Gaogao straightened her shoulders bit by bit and raised her hand, manipulating their own car to crush the people inside!
“Ah!”
Screams rose and fell in waves. Most ordinary people failed to dodge the sudden attack, while only the ability users reacted swiftly. Though momentarily trapped by the transforming vehicles, they quickly broke free using their powers and charged fiercely toward Qiao Gaogao and the others!
Right from the start, they had already lost so many people. The man’s face darkened as if it could drip with water. As he gritted his teeth, the gravitational force pressing down on Qiao Gaogao and the others intensified.
“Roar!”
Yinxi let out an infuriated roar. A nimble zombie burst out from the pile of corpses and pounced directly onto an ability user who was attempting to set the vehicles on fire, tearing into him with its teeth.
“Damn!”
As zombies swarmed them one after another, their formation began to fall into chaos. Yet, witnessing this, the man’s gaze toward Yinxi grew increasingly fanatical. He desperately tried to increase the gravitational force to render them immobile.
Under the effects of the gravity, even Qiao Gaogao’s abilities slowed significantly. She manipulated every piece of metal she could control, shaping them into thousands of sharp spikes that shot toward their enemies.
“Boom!”
The car windows shattered completely, scattering shards of glass all over the vehicle. The flying fragments cut their faces, leaving behind several thin gashes.
“Roar!”
Yinxi was utterly enraged. Her turbid eyes turned crimson, and her nails began to grow rapidly. As she rose and emerged through the shattered windshield, a bullet shot toward her at high speed.
“Senior!”
Qiao Gaogao swiftly pulled her back down and charged out herself, enduring the crushing gravitational force. Her eyes fixed fiercely on the man. “I want all of you, dead!”
She began to frantically channel the energy within her body. As the gravitational force on her lightened considerably, she dashed toward the nearest ability user. A sharp dagger, moving at an unavoidable speed, instantly pierced the ability user’s heart.
Until his death, that ability user likely never understood how he had fallen so quickly to a girl who seemed so harmless.
“Qiao Gaogao!”
Watching an ability user die at her hands, the man was thoroughly enraged. Cultivating an ability user required immense resources, and now one had been lost just like that!
“What are you shouting for?” Seizing the moment when another ability user was entangled with zombies, Qiao Gaogao threw a cold blade at him, piercing straight through his brain.
The man trembled with fury, but he finally realized they had underestimated their opponents. All he could do was glare hatefully at Qiao Gaogao and grind out through clenched teeth, “You’d better pray you can protect her for the rest of your life! Next time we meet, you won’t be so lucky!”
The man organized the remaining ability users to retreat, his expression grim. What he had thought was a foolproof plan had been completely disrupted, how could he not be furious?
“Bang!”
A bullet whizzed past the man’s forehead at high speed. A burning pain exploded across his scalp, and cold sweat instantly broke out. He immediately turned to look in the direction the bullet had come from.
Yinxi sat in the car, staring frustratedly at the gun in her hand.
So close, just a little bit more.
