She’s Fiercer Than Zombies - Chapter 30
The two in the back seat were utterly dumbfounded by the situation. The Yinxi before them was the first zombie they had ever encountered that seemed so human! Moreover, after Qiao Gaogao assured them that she didn’t bite, their fear diminished even further.
Once fear subsides, courage naturally rises. Even having just narrowly escaped death couldn’t extinguish their burning curiosity for gossip!
“Miss Qiao, are the two of you really in a relationship?” Li Yuan’s eyes sparkled as she looked at them, barely concealing her excitement.
“Of course it’s true! Don’t you think we make a great match?” Qiao Gaogao raised an eyebrow, confident that she and her senior looked perfectly suited.
“A match! A perfect match!” Li Yuan exclaimed excitedly. “I never thought I’d only get to indulge in fictional couples online, but now it’s happening in real life!”
Zhou Yuan nodded vigorously in agreement. As girls barely in their late teens, their eyes lit up when discussing topics they were passionate about. “We recently watched a drama and were totally obsessed with the couple in it. After that, we discovered many other pairings to adore, but we’ve never encountered anything like this in real life. Today is our lucky day!”
Not only had they been rescued, but they had also stumbled upon a real-life version of the kind of relationship they adored. How could they not be thrilled?
Amid their excited chatter, Qiao Gaogao and Yinxi exchanged bewildered glances. Were these two really so carefree? In a world like this, they were still obsessing over fictional couples?
“How did you run into those three people? Do you know them?” Qiao Gaogao asked.
“No! We don’t know them!” Zhou Ling immediately denied, shaking her head. But her evasive gaze and guilty expression betrayed her words, as if she were unwilling to admit the truth.
Li Yuan’s expression turned complicated for a moment as she glanced at Zhou Ling, unsure of what to say.
Seeing their reactions in the rearview mirror, Qiao Gaogao was momentarily confused. What was going on?
Yinxi, however, wasn’t satisfied with just the rearview mirror. She turned halfway around to scrutinize Zhou Ling’s expression up close, as if trying to read her mind.
Zhou Ling grew even more flustered under her gaze, her face clearly showing guilt. It gave off the impression that she did know them, but was too embarrassed to admit it.
“Grrr?” Yinxi began to join in the gossip.
Zhou Ling and Li Yuan stared at her blankly, unable to understand what she was saying.
Frustrated that they couldn’t understand her, Yinxi grew agitated. Why had she retained her human consciousness but not her language abilities?
Qiao Gaogao stifled a laugh at the scene before finally translating for them. “Senior is asking if one of them was your boyfriend.”
Zhou Ling: “…”
Li Yuan coughed lightly, trying to suppress her laughter as she watched Zhou Ling’s face cycle through a rainbow of emotions.
“Well, Miss Yin isn’t wrong. One of them was indeed her ex-boyfriend. Looking back now, it’s embarrassing to even admit she dated someone like that,” Li Yuan kindly explained.
Zhou Ling wrinkled her nose in disgust. “I was blind, digging through the trash for scraps.”
Hearing this, Yinxi immediately wore an expression of vindication, as if proud of her detective skills. She didn’t seem to mind that she was openly indulging in gossip, and even seemed to think she was particularly clever for guessing correctly.
Watching her senior’s smug little expression, Qiao Gaogao couldn’t help but think that if Yinx i had a tail, it would be wagging triumphantly. After all, she was already holding her chin up high!
“So how did things end up like that between you?” Qiao Gaogao asked.
“We ran into them while we were out searching for supplies. They outnumbered us and were all men, so they tried to force us to go back with them,” Li Yuan said indignantly.
The consequences of being taken back were self-evident.
Hearing this, Qiao Gaogao frowned. How long had it been since the collapse of order? And they were already daring to do such things. She despised scum like that the most, it was right not to have saved them earlier.
“I’ll drop you off soon. Be more careful from now on,” Qiao Gaogao said. Although she had saved them because she took a liking to them, she had no intention of bringing them along.
Li Yuan and her companion were momentarily stunned but quickly responded, “Alright, thank you for saving us. If we ever meet again in the future, don’t hesitate to ask if you need any help!”
Impressed by their character, Qiao Gaogao didn’t want to see them struggling alone in this apocalyptic world. She said, “We’re from the Tianxia Base in H City. They’ve established a safe base there. You can go there sticking together is the best way to survive.”
Their eyes lit up simultaneously. “There’s already a safe base? We’ve never heard any news about it!”
“Yes, but it’s not official. Don’t worry about the order inside, we won’t allow any wrongdoing to happen,” Qiao Gaogao explained.
“Alright! We understand!”
After giving them directions to the base, Qiao Gaogao dropped them off in an area with fewer zombies and provided them with some supplies before they parted ways.
Whether they would make it to the base or not was no longer Qiao Gaogao’s concern. She had done what she could in the moment.
Later, they drove to the Tai’an Biotech building. Tai’an was a well-known listed company in S City, occupying an entire building in the downtown area of a first-tier city, a testament to its immense wealth.
However, the area was swarming with zombies, especially around the Tai’an Building. Not only were there more zombies here than elsewhere, but they were also significantly stronger.
If such a large number of powerful zombies were to swarm them, Qiao Gaogao would be lucky to escape with her life, even if she survived.
The warm, comfortable sunlight bathed her, yet a chill crept up from the soles of her feet.
Why were the zombies around Tai’an so unusual? Could their changes be related to Tai’an?
With such a massive horde of zombies, it was clear there were no survivors left inside.
Standing on the car hood to survey the area, Qiao Gaogao returned to the vehicle with a grave expression and reported what she had seen to Yinxi.
After listening, Yinxi blinked slowly and let out a soft growl.
If what Gaogao said was true, and the zombies were gathered there to prevent anyone from entering the building, then there must be something inside that shouldn’t be discovered!
“There are too many of them,” Qiao Gaogao said, her voice heavy. Among them were many zombies at the brown crystal core level, and she could sense several even stronger than that. With so many, she worried that if Yinxi couldn’t control them all, the zombies might detect their unusual presence.
As an ability user, my natural attraction to zombies goes without saying. If they discovered Yinxi’s uniqueness, she would likely be torn apart and devoured by them!
After all, she had noticed something: the reason zombies evolved so quickly was because they consumed their own kind!
“Roar!”
Yinxi looked at the zombies wandering nearby, her expression growing conflicted.
“Let’s give it a try!” Qiao Gaogao took a deep breath and said.
Since so many zombies were gathered here, there must be something important inside, right?
“Roar!”
Yinxi steeled herself and nodded firmly!
To make it easier to escape later, Qiao Gaogao didn’t drive the car inside. If they got trapped in the dense horde of zombies, there would be no way to drive out.
The two got out of the car and decided that after Yinxi lured some zombies away, they would enter the high-rise building and approach from above to minimize contact with the massive horde below.
With a roar from Yinxi, most of the zombies lifted their heads upon hearing her voice. However, soon after, another zombie’s roar echoed, competing with Yinxi for control over the horde.
Although Yinxi clearly had the upper hand, the successive roars gradually overpowered hers after all, she was outnumbered.
Seeing Yinxi beginning to break out in a cold sweat, Qiao Gaogao quickly called for her to stop, her expression turning grave. The situation was far worse than she had anticipated!
“Whoosh!”
“Whoosh, whoosh!”
One after another, figures darted out rapidly, accompanied by ferocious roars, charging toward them at incredible speed!
Qiao Gaogao’s eyes widened in alarm. She immediately urged Yinxi to get back in the car and slammed on the accelerator, speeding away.
That was terrifying! She might have been able to handle one of those charging zombies, but with so many appearing at once, they would have been easy prey!
Qiao Gaogao pressed the accelerator to the floor, but the zombies were just as fast. One particularly small and agile zombie scaled the building’s exterior wall and lunged straight at their car!
Bang!
The zombie crashed heavily onto the roof, denting it instantly, and roared excitedly from atop the car.
“Roar!”
Yinxi let out an angry roar, her psychic pressure causing the zombie to freeze momentarily and slow its movements. Yet, it still struggled to break free from her influence, snarling as it flipped onto the hood and slammed into the windshield, cracking it!
Startled, Qiao Gaogao swerved the car wildly, trying to shake the zombie off. But her erratic driving caused their speed to drop, allowing the other zombies to close in.
“Roar!”
The zombie on the hood staggered unsteadily, its piercing shriek nearly bursting Qiao Gaogao’s eardrums, making her head throb and her mind grow hazy.
“Roar, roar!”
Yinxi rolled down the window and roared back, suppressing the discomfort Qiao Gaogao felt. Seizing the moment, Qiao Gaogao jerked the steering wheel sharply, flinging the zombie off, and executed a perfect drift to speed away.
The pursuing zombies fell behind once more. With Yinxi’s interference, the two barely managed to evade the zombie encirclement, finally stopping the car in a sparsely populated park.
The two of them let out a long sigh of relief, exchanged a glance, and couldn’t help but burst into laughter.
Although the situation just now was truly perilous, it really felt like they were being chased by dogs!
Qiao Gaogao shook her head, never expecting that they hadn’t even started yet and were already being chased. It was easy to imagine just how terrifying the zombies inside must be.
“Roar!” Yinxi sounded a bit dejected. She had thought she was already quite strong, but today’s events had dealt her a heavy blow.
Qiao Gaogao patted Yinxi’s head and comforted her, “It’s okay. It must be because you haven’t drunk much blood before. We’ll just make sure to drink more from now on!”
After all, she had only consumed blood twice so far, how could she compare to those who drank blood and ate flesh every day?
Yinxi looked up at her gloomily. Why did it feel like she was being treated like a child?
