She’s Fiercer Than Zombies - Chapter 29
Qiao Gaogao stared at her with an intense gaze, her expression full of unspoken grievance.
Before pursuing her senior, she had done extensive research there was no mention of any past relationships! And after they had been together for so long, her senior had never brought up any previous romances either!
“Roar?” Yinxi tilted her head, confused about why the conversation had shifted to topics like “first girlfriend.” Wasn’t she just asking about bringing someone home?
Seeing her confusion, Qiao Gaogao grew even more aggrieved. Puffing out her cheeks, she exclaimed, “If you have any romantic history, you’d better come clean now! Confession brings leniency, resistance brings severity! If you bring it up later, don’t expect me to be this understanding!”
Her words only deepened Yinxi’s bewilderment.
“Roar roar?”
“Roar roar roar!”
What romantic history?
She had never been in a relationship before, what was there to confess?
“Huh?”
Qiao Gaogao froze. “Then what did you mean when you said I wasn’t the first person you brought home?”
The reason she had asked that question was obviously to coax some sweet words out of her senior to hear her admit that she was the first person she had ever brought home!
“Roar roar roar roar!”
Qiao Gaogao: “…”
She looked at her serious senior, climbed off her with a sigh, and felt a sense of despair about her future prospects. Would she ever hear sweet nothings from this woman?
Her senior had interpreted her question as bringing someone home as a guest even counting the classmates she had brought over to play during elementary school!
Was that even reasonable?!
Seeing Gaogao’s despondent expression, Yinxi grew even more puzzled.
“Roar roar?”
“It’s fine, I’ll get used to it,” Qiao Gaogao said, comforting her while also consoling herself. Accepting that her senior wasn’t the most romantic person wasn’t all that difficult.
Yinxi gently poked her shoulder with a fingertip.
Qiao Gaogao, who had been facing away, immediately turned back to look at her, a questioning look in her eyes.
“Roar!” You’re the first.
At first, Qiao Gaogao didn’t grasp what she meant. But when it finally clicked, her eyes widened in delight, and she pressed her lips together to suppress a smile, trying not to look too obvious like she was secretly overjoyed.
“Really!”
Her voice was sweet and sticky, tinged with undeniable smugness.
After all, when her senior was in school, she had so many admirers it could make anyone jealous. And now, she was saying that Qiao Gaogao was her first love~
“Roar roar.”
“Hehe, me too. It’s my first time dating,” Qiao Gaogao declared proudly. To land someone like her senior on her first try, no wonder people had always said she was blessed since she was little!
Yinxi smiled, leaned in to plant a kiss on Qiao Gaogao’s cheek, then immediately lay back down as if embarrassed.
Qiao Gaogao covered the spot where her senior had kissed her, giggling foolishly.
Yinxi couldn’t take it anymore and turned over, burying her ears in the pillow.
Talking about such things was so embarrassing!
–
The next morning, Qiao Gaogao woke up in high spirits. After washing up and making herself breakfast, she joined Yinxi in searching through the belongings left by Yinxi’s parents, hoping to find some clues.
After rummaging through everything, even Qiao Gaogao was stunned.
Were her senior’s parents really living here?
There was shockingly little stuff!
At this moment, the two stood in Yinxi’s parents’ bedroom. The entire room felt somewhat empty, with the only sign of life being the wedding photo hanging above the bed. The man and woman in the photo appeared relatively young, around twenty-six or twenty-seven, smiling as they linked arms and faced the camera.
The man was handsome, the woman beautiful they looked perfectly matched. No wonder their genes had produced such a lovely senior.
The two began searching the room. The nightstand contained only a few useless items, not even a single document! It was so clean it made one wonder if they had treated this place like a hotel.
After searching everywhere, they found nothing.
Yinxi stood there in a daze, suddenly realizing how little she actually knew about her parents. If they didn’t contact her proactively, she wouldn’t even know where they were.
“It’s okay, senior. Let’s go check out Tai’an Biotech,” Qiaogaogao comforted her.
Yinxi led Qiaogaogao to a corner of the bedroom and pulled open a cabinet door used for concealment. Staring at the empty space inside, she froze completely.
“Senior?” Qiaogaogao called out tentatively, seeing her reaction.
Yinxi turned to look at her and let out a soft growl.
There used to be a safe here, but now it was gone.
Qiaogaogao was slightly stunned. Had they even taken things like the safe? Combined with the absence of any documents or similar items in the house, she couldn’t help but entertain a thought.
Had they moved away?
But if they had moved, why hadn’t they informed her senior at all?
“Let’s go check the company first,” Qiaogaogao finally said.
Yinxi responded with a muffled sound.
The two walked out into the courtyard. Qiaogaogao looked around, frowning slightly.
For some reason, she felt a sense of unease all day.
“Growl?” Yinxi looked at her, puzzled as she stopped walking.
Qiaogaogao shook her head and muttered after getting into the car, “I feel a bit panicked. Maybe today isn’t a good day to go out.”
Yinxi leaned over to glance at the sky outside clear and sunny, not at all like an inauspicious day for travel.
Qiaogaogao composed herself and drove straight toward Tai’an Biotech, following Yinxi’s directions.
Before the apocalypse, the drive from Yinxi’s home to Tai’an Biotech would have taken about an hour and a half. Now, it was slower, but with Yinxi around, it wouldn’t be much slower.
“Growl!”
“Growl! Growl!”
A horde of zombies roared furiously, surging like a tide as they besieged a small team. The few people trapped in the zombie encirclement struggled desperately. If nothing changed, they would soon be torn apart and devoured by the zombies!
Qiaogaogao parked the car not far away. Earlier, when they noticed the situation, she had told Yinxi not to use her ability to control the other zombies, lest anyone with ill intentions take notice of her.
“Zhou Ling, I’ll tear an opening in a moment you run for it!” a young girl shouted, swinging a metal rod in her hand. Flames attached to the rod ignited upon contact with the zombies, but there were too many of them. If this continued, her energy would deplete before she could inflict significant damage.
“No! I’m staying with you!” The girl named Zhou Ling faced the zombie onslaught with determination, refusing to abandon her companion.
“What are you all doing still playing at sisterly affection at a time like this?! If you won’t leave, then get out of my way!” one of the men roared angrily.
“Hmph! Even if we die, we’ll drag you down with us!” the girl who had spoken first retorted furiously.
“You damn bitches! If it weren’t for you, would we have ended up in this situation?” The man’s eyes were wide with rage, but he couldn’t free his hands to deal with the two women.
There were three men and two women surrounded by zombies, and it was clear that the men and women were from two opposing factions, at odds with each other.
“Growl?” Yinxi let out a soft growl, wanting to ask Jiaojiao if they should rescue them.
Qiao Jiaojiao observed the situation inside, her brow slightly furrowed. The two girls seemed about the same age as them, and they were willing to sacrifice themselves to let the other escape. Their character probably wasn’t too bad. But the same couldn’t be said for the men.
From the first glance, she disliked those men, feeling they had untrustworthy faces.
Qiao Jiaojiao didn’t know how to judge someone’s character by their appearance; she only knew that usually, if she didn’t like someone’s face, that person was likely no good.
“Senior, don’t show yourself. I’ll be back soon,” Qiao Jiaojiao prepared to get out of the car, still unwilling to easily expose Yinxi’s abilities under others’ watchful eyes.
“Growl.” Be careful.
Qiao Jiaojiao flashed a bright smile, quickly got out of the car, and charged toward the zombie horde!
As soon as she appeared, someone noticed her immediately. One of the men was overjoyed and loudly begged her to save them.
Qiao Jiaojiao ignored his pleas and charged straight into the zombie crowd. She swiftly tore an opening from the direction of the two girls, grabbed them, and quickly escaped through the gap, leaving the three men still trapped in the encirclement!
After they broke free, some zombies tried to chase them, but Qiao Jiaojiao dealt with them swiftly, running briskly toward Yinxi’s direction.
The three men she had left behind cursed loudly, using the foulest language imaginable. Anyone unaware would have thought Qiao Jiaojiao had dug up their ancestral graves.
Qiao Jiaojiao paid no attention to their curses. Returning to the car, she set the girls down and said quickly, “Get in the car!”
As soon as she finished speaking, she leaped into the vehicle herself, simultaneously using metal to blow the heads off a few pursuing zombies!
The two girls were quick to grasp the situation and hurriedly got into the car, closing the door securely. The vehicle immediately shot forward like an arrow from a bow, knocking down several zombies in its path.
After escaping the area, the two girls, having narrowly survived, calmed their emotions and expressed their gratitude to Qiao Jiaojiao.
“No problem. I just took a liking to you,” Qiao Jiaojiao turned back and gave them a radiant smile.
The two girls introduced themselves as Zhou Ling and Li Yuan. They had been childhood friends who grew up together. When the zombie virus broke out, they were still sleeping in their school dormitory. They held out in the dorm until they were almost out of food before venturing out together to search for supplies.
After introducing themselves, they glanced curiously at Yinxi. Her appearance was very similar to the zombies outside, but she didn’t seem to attack people on sight like the others. Plus, since Qiao Jiaojiao had rescued them, they weren’t as afraid of Yinxi.
Noticing their occasional glances, Yinxi turned her head and greeted them with a growl.
Although they weren’t overly frightened, her growl still made both of them shiver in unison.
Not understanding what was said, they took her roar as a threat.
Watching them huddle together like two little quails, Qiao Gaogao laughed heartlessly. Still, she kindly translated for Yinxi, saying, “Don’t be afraid, she doesn’t bite. She’s just greeting you. Her name is Yinxi and she’s, my girlfriend.”
The two of them froze in unison. Greeting them? And this human and zombie were in a girlfriend-girlfriend relationship?
Yinxi glared angrily at Qiao Gaogao. What did she mean by “she doesn’t bite”? Why did that sound exactly like what dog owners say!
“Don’t worry, my dog doesn’t bite.”
Wasn’t that exactly the same thing!
Qiao Gaogao scratched her head, confused as to why her senior had suddenly gotten angry. Had she done something misleading?
Seeing that Qiao Gaogao still didn’t get it, Yinxi roared at her in frustration.
She was not a dog!
With the roar right in her face, Qiao Gaogao immediately understood the problem. Pressing her lips together to hold back laughter, she soothed her, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry! I won’t do it again!”
Hmm, her senior really did seem like a bristling cat just now.
