She’s Fiercer Than Zombies - Chapter 28
The car drove smoothly along the road, and Yinxi’s gaze kept drifting to the rearview mirror, though the figure had long since disappeared from sight.
“Roar!”
Yinxi’s voice sounded listless. She felt that abandoning the boy was somewhat wrong, yet she genuinely disliked having a boy tagging along. It was a conflicting feeling.
Qiao Guoguo, watching the road ahead, comforted her, “Our abilities are limited. It’s already quite an achievement just to take care of ourselves.”
Besides, if it were an adult, it might be different. But what was the point of a child following them around? Would they have to look after him? They weren’t related in any way, and providing him with directions was already more than enough.
Yinxi fell silent, and the two temporarily put the matter behind them as they continued driving toward S City.
Qiao Guoguo drove fast, mostly avoiding the cities along the way. When she grew tired, she would pull over to rest before continuing.
After three days of intermittent driving, they finally exited the highway and prepared to enter the urban area of S City. From this point on, Yinxi would need to guide the way.
If it weren’t for Yinxi’s body still being slightly stiff, she would have long wanted to take the wheel herself.
As soon as they entered the city, the streets lay in ruins. Cars were scattered haphazardly, and the ground was littered with cleanly gnawed skeletons. Zombies roamed in hordes, swarming toward the sound of the vehicle.
Yinxi rolled down the window and let out a roar that spread outwards from her. Every zombie that heard her voice halted, confusedly making way. Some even moved the cars and corpses blocking the road, clearing a path for them to pass.
Qiao Guoguo was utterly stunned by the sight. Her senior was truly incredible now she could command so many zombies to make way for them!
“Senior, you’re amazing!” Qiao Guoguo immediately lavished praise. This skill was far more impressive than her own! If she were alone, she’d have to painstakingly hack them all down to stop them from chasing and biting her. Yet, with just one roar, her senior had accomplished it!
Yinxi snorted proudly and directed Qiao Guoguo to drive forward.
Wherever they went, the zombies made way for them. Such grandeur even an emperor would have to step aside!
They drove all the way to a two-story villa and stopped. The neighborhood had low foot traffic, and many buildings remained relatively intact. The villa in front of them showed no signs of damage not even any traces of habitation!
Qiao Guoguo was dumbfounded. “Do they not live here?”
Looking at the clearly deserted house, Yinxi pursed her lips and let out two low roars.
Yinxi’s parents were very busy and rarely stayed at home. They only returned occasionally when Yinxi came back during holidays.
Getting out of the car, Yinxi entered the password and walked through the gate, her mood visibly downcast.
Qiao Guoguo followed her inside, glancing around the surroundings. “Does no one take care of this place?” she asked, puzzled.
The weeds in the courtyard had grown almost knee-high. Even if they rarely returned, this was still their permanent residence. How could they let it become so desolate?
“Roar!”
Yinxi shook her head, indicating she had no idea what was going on either. The last time she had returned home was during the winter break, and back then, the house had been managed by a housekeeper. Who would have thought that in just eight or nine months, it would end up like this?
As they stepped into the inner rooms, they could see a layer of dust covering everything inside. It was eerily quiet, like a forgotten corner of the world.
Yinxi stared blankly at the scene. All the furnishings in the house remained exactly as they were when she had left. No one had lived here for so long, and not even a dust cover had been used to protect anything.
Seeing this, Qiao Gaogao didn’t know what to say either, but one thing was clear: her senior’s parents weren’t here.
“Senior, if your parents aren’t here, do you know where they work?”
Yinxi seemed dazed, first shaking her head, then nodding.
“Huh?” What did that mean?
“Ah!”
After hearing her explanation, Qiao Gaogao finally understood why she had reacted that way.
Yinxi only knew that her parents worked at a research institute, but she had no idea where that institute was located. All she knew was that the institute belonged to a company called Tai’an Biotech. Beyond that, she knew nothing.
When Yinxi mentioned Tai’an Biotech, Qiao Gaogao paused for a moment. “Is that the company that developed the drug to treat leukemia?”
Hearing the name Tai’an Biotech reminded Qiao Gaogao of a recent hot news story: Tai’an Biotech had developed a drug to treat leukemia, which had already passed clinical trials and was about to go into mass production.
Because of this, the company’s stock had skyrocketed, and the entire pharmaceutical sector had benefited from the surge. At the time, some people around her had even discussed whether to jump on the bandwagon and invest. It had left a deep impression on her.
Yinxi nodded, confirming Qiao Gaogao’s words.
After hearing this, Qiao Gaogao took a deep breath. Based on her experience reading novels, whenever a biotech company appeared in a story, it was usually the villain.
Could Tai’an Biotech be one?
After a moment’s thought, Qiao Gaogao dismissed the idea for now. After all, the government had announced that the current situation was due to some unknown magnetic field interference, which seemed unrelated to any drug.
“Let’s rest here for the night. Tomorrow, we’ll go to Tai’an Biotech’s headquarters and see if the research institute is located there.”
Yinxi shook her head, certain that the research institute was not at the company.
“Even if it’s not at the company, there should be some clues about the institute there. We can rest here tonight and see if your parents left anything behind.”
Yinxi silently agreed with her suggestion.
Next, Qiao Gaogao looked around to make sure no one was there, then began cleaning the house. Yinxi wanted to help, but Qiao Gaogao pushed her away, suggesting she take advantage of the remaining sunlight to air out some items from her home. They could store them in their space later.
Realizing this was also a task, Yinxi started carrying things outside, one load after another. After several trips, she suddenly stopped in her tracks, her face filled with frustration.
“Senior?” Qiao Gaogao, who was wiping a table, looked at her in confusion.
Yinxi stomped her foot angrily not at Qiao Gaogao, but at herself!
I’m such an idiot! Since I have space now, why did I keep making multiple trips to move things!
Qiao Gaogao watched blankly as her senior finished venting her anger, then walked upstairs with slightly stiff movements. Soon, she saw her senior come back down empty-handed, wearing a somewhat proud expression, and immediately understood.
Squinting her eyes, she couldn’t help but laugh. How could her senior be so adorable!
Hearing the laughter, Yinxi shot her a sharp glare before pretending nothing happened and heading toward the courtyard.
After finishing her laugh, Qiao Gaogao quickened her pace and soon cleaned the entire living room. Just as she was about to start on the kitchen, Yinxi returned from hanging the laundry and began helping wash the kitchen utensils.
Fortunately, the residential complex had its own water supply system, so there was still water available. Since the main issue was accumulated dust, cleaning went relatively quickly.
Cleaning a two-story villa was still exhausting, so the two only tidied up the areas they would use. When they reached Yinxi’s bedroom, Qiao Gaogao chuckled mischievously.
Yinxi: “???”
Why did that laugh sound so creepy to her!
“Senior, your room!” Qiao Gaogao emphasized the words, never imagining she would one day get to see her senior’s room!
Yinxi was a bit confused. What was so exciting about her room? Wasn’t it just like any other room?
Opening the bedroom door, she was greeted by a white and blue color scheme. Though the room was covered in a layer of dust, its fresh and cozy design was still evident. Many small decorative details revealed the owner’s playful, childlike heart.
Qiao Gaogao stepped forward and gently flicked a Pikachu hanging by the bed, her eyes crinkling with laughter. “Senior, you really do like Pikachu!”
If Yinxi hadn’t turned into a zombie and lost the ability to blush, her face would have been burning red by now!
Qiao Gaogao had once noticed that her senior’s backpack had a Pikachu keychain. When she asked about it back then, Yinxi claimed she just hung it there randomly and refused to admit she liked something as childish as Pikachu. Now, there was no way to deny it!
Yinxi snorted lightly and ignored her, going to wipe the Pikachu clean herself. After giving it a gentle pat, she moved on to tidy up other things.
Qiao Gaogao couldn’t help but laugh inwardly. No wonder her eyes lit up every time she used her ability to create a Pikachu.
–
By the time they finished cleaning the room thoroughly, it was already 6 p.m. Qiao Gaogao’s stomach was growling with hunger, but Yinxi felt no hunger at all.
During dinner, Qiao Gaogao mumbled through a mouthful of meat, “After we go to Tai’an Biotech tomorrow, let’s also check the blood bank to see if the blood there has gone bad.”
In Qiao Gaogao’s understanding, places like blood banks would have backup power systems to ensure the blood supply wouldn’t spoil during a blackout.
Hearing this, Yinxi naturally understood what Gaogao meant. She pressed her lips together but ultimately didn’t object. If she didn’t want to be as weak as before, she had to drink blood. However, she couldn’t keep feeding solely from Gaogao, no matter how strong her constitution was, she couldn’t withstand frequent blood loss.
After finishing their meal and taking a bath, Qiao Gaogao couldn’t resist rolling around on Yinxi’s bed, giggling with a particularly infatuated expression.
Yinxi lay stiffly on the bed, staring blankly at the ceiling, looking utterly bewildered by Gaogao’s silly laughter.
Qiao Gaogao rolled over onto Yinxi, planting two smacking kisses on her lips, her eyes curving into crescents as she grinned and asked, “Senior, am I the first person you’ve ever brought home?”
Yinxi blinked. What did that mean?
“Am I? Am I?”
Qiao Gaogao wriggled on top of her like a worm, her voice softening into a coquettish whine.
“Ha!”
Qiao Gaogao widened her eyes in shock, stopped wriggling, and stared at Yinxi with the look of someone betrayed, her voice rising sharply.
“It’s not me?!”
Wasn’t she Yinxi’s first girlfriend?
